Red Lion Pub Review - Montrose - Houston - The Infatuation

"Eating at Red Lion Pub in Montrose means you might run into an entire football (that’s soccer to us Americans) team, people yelling intensely at football (still soccer) on TV, and someone next to you enunciating the word “pint” while ordering beer. Determining where the English cosplay begins and ends at Red Lion proves difficult, but the bar stocks enough whisky and English or Irish beer to get you saying, “God Save The Queen'' regardless. Grab a bar stool or wood-paneled booth and order up a stomach-busting portion of shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, or chicken tikka masala. And while the food here won’t blow your mind, it will sop up quite a lot of beer and most of it comes covered in cheese, and that counts for a lot." - Chelsea Thomas

Had a really nice experience, the food was excellent, we got the hot honey wings and the Killarney Moon Beer cheese Burger, both were delicious. Bottomless fries are good. Also had the chocolate martini and it was delicious. The live music was good to listen to. Will have to go back and try the classics dishes.

Google
Everything about this place is amazing. Megan provided amazing service. The atmosphere is fantastic and I truly loved their Christmas themed decorations. THE FOOD, oh the food. I had the Kilarney burger and would say one of the best I've had in a very long time. Strongly recommend stopping in.

Google
My mom is 100% Irish and wanted to try the Red Leprechaun before and event a few weeks ago so we stopped in and our jaws dropped seeing and hearing about the history of this bar. The food was seriously out of this world delicious! The staff really knew their stuff and had great answers to our questions! We've been back since our first time and now consider it our new favorite place to go! We absolutely love this place and can't wait to go back yet again!❤️

My wife and I are trying new places in Cincinnati, The Red Leprechaun won last night... We arrived around 18:00 on a Sunday. We were told the wait for a table of two was approximately an hour. We chose to wait. Luckily the wait ended up being only twenty minutes or so. We did almost walk out based on the estimated time, so I wish the estimate was better. It's Christmas time, and the place is decked out for the season. The interior of the restaurant/bar does have the feel of a nitched Irish pub. There was live music, I don't care for that, but to each their own. It was busy so it was a bit loud in addition to the live music. The drinks. We both had the Chocolate Cherry Espresso Martini. It is good, very easy to drink and has about two ounces of alcohol in it. It's about a five ounce drink. I believe it was $13.00 per. So, if you had a few; and that would be easy to do, it could get expensive. In general the prices are would you will typically see in this kind of setting these days. We got the pretzels and beer cheese. These were good. One note, you get three pretzels and what looks like two cups of beer cheese. It is not, it is a cup of beer cheese, and a cup of mustard. They look identical under the lighting. We then split the "Killarney Moon Beer Cheese Burger". It is a brisket smash burger. It was good, but it really needs two patties. I do recommend upgrading to the French fries, $3.00, it's worth it. They come with house ketchup, but ask for an additional cup of the beer cheese. The service was reasonable. Overall, is recommend having a go at it. We will be back to try some more traditional Irish food... Sheppard's Pie, they have one. They also have a Pot Pie, and a Cincy Pie.

Allison was PHENOMENAL. She was so kind, helpful, and gave great recommendations. This restaurant is decorated with lots of cool vintage items and Irish odes. The food was AMAZING. I could drink that ranch. I had a seasonal apple flavored Celtic cider that was, I kid you not, heavenly. My burger was DROOL worthy. I would give 6 stars if possible.

Google
This is definitely a must-try! Their ad for bottomless fries with an Espresso Martini caught my attention (my favorite cocktail). On our first visit, we ordered the Shepherd Style Pasties, Killarney Moon Cheeseburger, Banana Foster Espresso Martini, and Reuben. The food was delicious 😊. My husband raved about the burger, saying it was the best he'd ever had. The atmosphere was nice, with generous portions and great flavor, despite the menu being small.

Google
This joint has it all. Cannot say enough good things about it. Ordered off the secret menu and was impressed with the quality of the food, which was delivered promptly and by a genuine staff member. The festive decor really took it to a new level, which is why it is included here.

Google
What an amazing place! We spent one night in Cincinnati and were not disappointed in coming here at all! We had a Guinness and an Espresso martini to start it off. Both were superb! I got the Killarney Moon Beer Cheeseburger and chips. Oh my! So good!!! My husband got the wings and thought they were really good! The special tonight was bottomless fries with a martini. Dipped them in the house made ranch. Yum!!! Highly recommend this place! The atmosphere and service are top notch!

Yelp
This was a great experience. Food was amazing (we had fish and chips and pretzel and cheese off the secret menu). Service was so friendly and accommodating. Ambiance speaks for itself, just walk in the front door and you are home! This will be a staple for us.

Yelp
This place is lovely and since Ireland is one of my favorite places I love this place even more First of all the decor is spot on. Irish sayings all over posters and red color makes it pop. The bartender was wonderful made me a decaf expresso martini. Delicious. I didn't eat but my hubby got the shepherds pie 10/10. This place makes me want to kiss the Blarney Stone

Yelp
Food is delicious! Autumn was our server and did an excellent job. Drinks were great too! Cool vibe. We'll be back.

Yelp
Derick from TikTok recommended this place. Said it's his favorite place in Ohio. So we had to check it out on our trip. Greeted right away and the staff was super friendly. Our waiter was the guy from the TikTok and I forgot his name. Shame on me. But was real friendly and helpful. Went over a few menu items for us. The atmosphere was great. It was in a game night for the Reds so fun crowd. My wife got the fish and chips and they were fantastic. I got the menu off their "secret" menu and it was really good. Service was quick. Food was hot. Drinks were cold. You should check it out.

Yelp
Fun w music Nice service at the bar Had to ask to put on the Reds game Would have thought at bar so close that'd be a priority but seems they focus on music which is fine. He was good. Seemed to be some fans there. Didn't know who it was. Good songs.

Yelp
The Red Leprechaun was by far my favorite establishment to visit in Cincinnati. For starters, the service was the best we received. The bar tender came to our table, gave suggestions, refilled our waters without asking, answered any questions we had, was super attentive, and overall engaging. The vibe is pretty cool. Like an Irish bar, but in tones of red and whimsical light-up signs. They have a phone booth you can record messages on that they play on their social media. They also have live music during the day, not just at night - and it was no cover. The drinks were fantastic and priced well. Their espresso martini was by far the best I've ever had. Truly delicious and amazing. I highly recommend that if you're visiting Cinci, or live there, you need to check this place out.

Yelp
We ate at the Red Leprechaun for a late lunch prior to the Cincinnati Reds game today. We have been here before, however, this was the first time before a game as well as on a holiday. Due to Labor Day, they had a limited menu as they posted that they had let several staff take off to enjoy the holiday weekend. They had plenty of good choices to choose from. My husband and I both decided on the Little Guinness burger and house-made chips, my husband had fries for a small up-charge. The burger was very delicious. It had the ground beef patty, Marie Rose sauce (which was delish), grilled Guinness onion, lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. My husband enjoyed a Guinness and I had a Strongbow Cider. The Red Leprechaun is a charming little pub. There is quite a bit of history to it. The hand carved bar once thrived in a place in Ireland called Malahide, it is north of Dublin. There are many beautiful details and fun memorabilia. There also is a secret menu which you can ask for on a normal day that has a few food items and drinks that aren't on their regular menu. It is fun to ask about it , also, there is a hidden secret menu on the walls of the restaurant. It was tricky to find but we found it the last time we visited. They encourage you exploring the place as it is fun to look at everything. I recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Came ate and conquered I wanted a hotdog and a hotdog is what I got with a bag of fries and three dipping sauces on the side. Added plus is the live country music singer Elias Gomez. Ask for Alex when you walk through the door

Yelp
Got there early in the evening, so it wasn't too crowded. (More people started showing up around 7:00). Noise level was good. Even with a solo acoustic guitarist singing a great selection of songs. We were close to the small stage and he even asked the crowd about his volume. Ben was our waiter and was quite good at offering suggestions, getting our order, checking on us and making sure everything was good. Food!! We all tried some different items. Started off with the Fries, chips and dips. Fries were done very well, crispy outside, soft and hot inside. Chips had a nice seasoning, the three dips were perfect! A Cinci chili dip, a peppered cheese dip and a malt vinegar aoli. All 3 were delicious. I had the Fish and chips, the batter was not too thick and had a good flavor, the fish was cooked just right and was flavorful. My wife had the Rueben sandwich. The meat was sliced thin and had good flavor, on rye toast with a very nice sauce, something called Marie rose. She enjoyed it immensely. I don't recall everything else the others ordered, but everyone seemed to really like their choices. Oh, can't forget the adult beverages!! The "Espresso Moher-tini" was really good. Suggest you try it for AFTER dinner because it's almost a dessert! But yummy! One of our party had the "Oscar's old fashioned". He said it was a very nice upgrade from a normal old fashioned! Another of our group got the Galway Girl. That seemed to be a big hit! All in all, a really good experience. Live music, great food, great service....definitely worth a repeat visit!! And definitely recommend the Red Leprechaun!!

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick pint before the game. Place was packed, but lucked into seats right at the bar. It was elbow to elbow, but everyone was in a party mood. Beer was flowing and everyone was happy! Really cool decor in kind a pay phone booth! Would definitely come back

Yelp
I can't remember the last time I had a burger this good. Chips were also a great pick and the service is very solid. If you need a square meal in The Banks, I can't recommend the Red Leprechaun enough.

Yelp
Definitely a bucket list place for me. Had the opportunity to go on a date night. I'm always a sucker for Sheppards Pie and order it whenever I see it. Some of the most flavorful I've had since Ireland. The check book is an Irish passport vibe which tied the experience together. The bag of fries app was great, would love to see a curry ketchup or similar with it , but that's just me being overly picky.
google avatar

Yelp
Was here for St.Patrick's Day! Place was packed. Live music all night long! Also, they have a secret menu! Great place to go to for lunch and dinner and before/after a Reds or Bengals game!

Yelp
A few things...Number one (let's start with a win) the ambience of this place is really cool! The live music was so much fun and the place looks incredible! Second the amount food you get for the price is definitely not right. Though the cheesy fries were good (very crispy) and the sauce on both of the wings were good, they were so tiny! It was not worth it. I have most DEFINITELY had better wings in Ohio. And the burger was, at best average. The service was slow and the attention to detail was not there. I had really high hopes for this place due to Brian Duffy's name being attached to it.

Yelp
Service was quick and they had a few authentic Irish drinks. We sat in one of the booths near the stage and it was pretty nice. I enjoyed the live performance more than the DJ so just go a little earlier in the evening to see that. We went on Saturday night and it wasn't too busy.
google avatar

Megan F.

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday for Bingo night! It wasn't super crowded and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were able to sit at the bar and they got us into the next game of bingo. I got the Causeway Campari and my friend the old fashioned. We had a great time on a weeknight and we can't wait to go back with a bigger group.
google avatar

Cody R.

Yelp
Best place downtown without a doubt. Music is great. Alcohol is better and it's right next to the banks. It's new so it's not as busy now but this is no doubt the best bar in Cincinnati. It's THE Irish pub of the city without question

Christopher M.

Yelp
The service was great, we love the atmosphere, BUT the food and menu are not good. Based on the location this should be a destination for the food and drinks, but the food is mediocre at best. It's a good location and proper are willing to pay for something good.

Yelp
Excellent environment with great live music and awesome food. For lunch we had - Huge Cod Sandwich, Irish Chips (fries), BFG Wings and Cold Guinness- 2 TNT Thumps Up

Yelp
Very new went when they first opened, staff was well trained no matter who walked by the always ask questions or talked to us.

Yelp
I feel like I'm in Ireland! This place has thought of every single detail! The actual bar top is from Ireland, the pictures are from Ireland. Live music on some nights! The music isn't too loud, so you can hold a conversation. The food is all Irish. The beer and drink selection is great! You can tell they have put a lot of detail in every single thing. There is a little phone booth from Ireland. And it's smells great in here! Not to mention THE VIEW!!!!! And this is probably super weird... but the toilets don't flush automatically too soon! I don't have to rush wipe ! I highly recommend checking it out. I can go on and on.
google avatar

Manna U.

Yelp
They did a great job of handling sudden rush of the Flying Pig runners. The 5K was delayed 3 hours and a lot of people decided to eat. They weren't expecting that kind of crowd and handled it gracefully. The food was excellent and the bathrooms are really nice! I can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
Great new Irish pub on the Banks that served up some surprisingly really good food. Probably the best pint of Guinness I've had poured here in the city.

Veria M.

Yelp
My food was cold because I had to drive around for 30 minutes searching for a parking space. There is no phone number to call and ask someone to run it out to the car. My fish was fried way too hard, I did not want seasoning on the fries, but did not see anywhere for special instructions when I placed the order online, and again I couldn't call and tell them because there was no phone number anywhere to be found. This was my first and probably last visit.

Dirk K.

Yelp
The food & service is awesome, found the place by luck, my wife & myself love Irish pubs & this didn't disappoint, didn't get the owners name but couldn't have been friendlier, when he found out we were from out of town & curious about some of their menu items he was glad to give us a sample, next time in Cincy we will without a doubt visit the Red Leprechaun again

Kasha B.

Yelp
Service was outstanding!!! My friend and I got the espresso martini and it was so good. We also ordered soda bread and cinnamon butter from their secret weekly menu- AMAZING. Shepherds pie was also a 12/10!!! Music was great and they also had live music. Experience made us want to come back soon!

Ainigriv R.

Yelp
New place! Great ambiance. Service is amazing. We ordered the Poutine fries and they were delicious. Definitely a must go!!

Rebecca M.

Yelp
One of our new favorite places. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The staff were so much fun. Live music every night and it was really good. Highly recommend this establishment for a fun early evening out with friends or watching your favorite sport team.

Kirk B.

Yelp
This is a new restaurant down at the Banks which has been open for about a month. The ambiance is really nice. Definitely going for the Irish vibe with the decor. The bar is very nice and was apparently shipped over from Ireland. They have several nice flat panels to enjoy the game, but it's not overdone like a sports bar. The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions. They came by regularly to check on drinks and food. The food was very good, although this was only our first time. We'll go back and try some other menu items. I had a burger and my wife had the Rueben...we would recommend both with the house made chips. I would have liked a better draft selection, but they carry the usuals. I hope they do well at this location.

Kayla W.

Yelp
This place sucks!!!!!! We were all having a good time and my friend got kicked out because he was "intoxicated". Isn't everyone at the bar? You drink and get drunk at a bar? It's after a reds game. People are dancing, throwing beer around, ordering shots after shots. And my friend who is just sitting at our table is too drunk? Meanwhile there's literal throw up under tables and those people still were there? Everyone is drunk. But when someone can handle their drink LIKE MY FRIEND DID and still have to leave? Then you get a bad review; no more tips and this will be heard about. If you're going to cut one person off then cut off the whole group because we're all on the same level

Jon M.

Yelp
They'll let you in "standing room only" to get drinks if their tables are full but the servers will bitch at you no matter where you stand. Figure it out.

Kelly Taylor O.

Yelp
Fantastic! Mackenzie was a fantastic bartender and poured my drinks amazingly! Will definitely go back! The ambiance is also amazing.

Corey M.

Yelp
Beer was excellent! I tried the secret menu and the food was awesome. The fries were hot and seasoned to perfection. My waitress was very kind, checked on me quite a few times and was very helpful. The bathrooms were clean and the overall aesthetic was charming. I will be back!

Eli S.

Yelp
I was pretty excited to try this new restaurant out with a friend. My friend got his food in about 15 minutes, but they forgot about my meal. Another 15 or 20 minutes later, and my food arrives. It must've been the blandest cheeseburger I've ever had (not to mention his pasty had no flavor either). The cold and soggy chips on the side did not make the meal any more enjoyable. If you want good service and good food, I'd recommend going across the street to The Filson!

Joe H.

Yelp
Great start! Good food, good drinks, good music. Staff working hard. Best of luck mates!
