"This Church Street Marketplace deli has been a lunch favourite for decades.  What would otherwise seem like a basic lunch staple, The Red Onion makes destination-worthy. Hearty sandwiches like house roasted turkey, warm reubens and corned beef are all made from scratch and served on a choice of homemade baked wheat, rye, sourdough, seven grain baguette, or their famous honey oat bread. If you’re an early bird, stop in for tempting breakfast items like the Red Onion eggs Benedict sandwich (scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon, hollandaise mayo, baby spinach and provolone) or the Red Onion bagel with chive cream cheese, red onions, tomatoes and capers for just $3.50." - Heather Platt

Love this place and have been eater here for years. Every time a friend visits this is a must go to place for the Red Onion sandwich. One of the best ever. Super nice staff. It does get very, very busy and it's an expensive sandwich ($10), but it's totally worth the wait and cost! I love this place!

Took a break from the cold and enjoyed the oversized cookies and wide assortment of teas in a relaxed atmosphere. Great window-side tables for people-watching on Church Street. Fresh baked bread looked delicious for next time.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! $10 sandwiches for a rueben with two slices of beef and 1.5 inches of sauerkraut. Waited 20 minutes for them to struggle through making a terrible 6 inch long sandwich. employees barely competent. Also, handle on the door is about 1.5 feet off the ground, installed by small children I can only assume. Maybe this business was opened by small children, that would explain things.

Great sandwiches, wonderful homemade breads, fantastic cookies! I also had the curry turkey rice soup special and it was amazing.

The red onion is a unique sandwich shop and bakery. The signature sandwich is one of the best I've ever had in the world, I suggest you get it the cookies are delicious as well. It's a small place, so come early or late to beat the lunch rush. Everything is carefully made to order so you will have to wait a bit on your sandwich, but you won't care. They bake all their own bread and it fills the air with the most wonderful smell. I have a lot of fond memories in burlington, but eating here is one of the best. Don't skip it.

Sandwich was decent, except for the over-toasted bread that destroyed the roof of my mouth. Hands down the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Husband and I told the cashier we wanted a can of soda for our beverages, and a rude, impatient, childish male employee about had a melt down (because cans are different prices....). I've never seen someone get so angry over something so petty. Spent the whole time there watching this rude employee trudge around and treat all customers with disrespect. Never returning, and would suggest finding another sandwich shop. Especially if you're looking for a good deal (way overpriced).

This little sandwich shop has been on church st for as long as I can remember. Some say it is expensive and I will agree that it is not cheap but you get what you pay for. Quality, fresh ingredients on delicious freshly baked bread. My favorite is their chicken salad made with grapes on some sort of honey oat bread, Take it to go and enjoy it down by the lake in the summer!
