Our family has been getting the mango cake from this bakery for years. It was a staple at our celebrations, and everyone looked forward to it. The cake used to be beautifully topped with chunks of fresh mango, which made it taste bright, fresh, and delicious. Unfortunately, when we picked one up today, we noticed right away that something was different. The cake looked smaller and seemed to be missing a layer. When we asked about it, the woman at the counter insisted it was the same cake, but when we got home and tried it, it was clear that it wasn't. The top wasn't fully covered like it used to be. Instead, it had some kind of mango gel with just a few mango pieces on top. The cake tasted dry and just didn’t have the same flavor or freshness we loved. We understand that businesses have had to adjust due to inflation, but it’s disappointing to see the quality go down while the prices go up. Sadly, we won’t be ordering from here again. It’s unfortunate because we truly loved this cake and always chose it for our family events, but today everyone was disappointed. We’ll have to find a new bakery moving forward :(

Google
Much faster alternative, for the time and date we visited, than the jollibee next door. The cakes always look delicious. The food we purchased was fine.

Google
I come here for the Mango supreme dedication cake. I’m always in and out and we always love the cake. Had no problems here. Update: Came back in after a while and noticed newer displays of cake and more options of single slice cakes. I look forward to trying each slice!

Google
Checked out the new Iced Ube Milk and did not like it. While I can taste the ube, there are granules that I don’t care for. Besides that the store was clean and the baked goods were organized. POS is quick and efficient.

Google
Came for the food but it is the service and kind staff that makes me keep coming back for more. I'd like to commend Michelle M. She has always been very courteous and always wears a smile when she greets customers. Compliments goes to Michelle along with the rest of the Red Ribbon Bakeshop staff @ Elston Ave Chicago,IL ! Thanks!

Google
I wouldn't recommend their halo-halo. I barely saw any ingredients. The only thing that made it better was the ice cream and leche plan on top. I didn't even see or taste any Ube. It's not worth the $7 plus price tag. Their cashier is unfriendly and can be rude. And be careful of their free Mamon, as it's usually moldy.

Google
Nice and delicious pastries. I love the pan de sal. Very soft and fluffy. The tarts cakes are no so sweet. Great for snacking. I always buy some of thier pastries everytime i come here. Great place.

Google
sampled the butter mamon as this came highly raved, and was not disappointed at all! the cake was buttery, moist and not too sweet. yum

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bakery whenever I am at Seafood City. They have a variety of cakes, pastries, brownie bars, and even hot foods. I love their mamon ube flavor. I will get a variety pack for the family to eat with coffee. The mamon are set out self service to grab, just the cakes and other desserts behind the glass a staff will need to assist. This bakery is small, only set up for togo orders.

Yelp
We always have a positive experience when we go to Red Ribbon. We usually order the empanadas (my favorite is from them) and mamon. We have just ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday through the mobile app. It was ready on time and presentable when we picked it up. I look forward to using the app again in the future to be able to pick and go.

Yelp
AWESOME packaged chocolate cake. Just great for something packaged and not fresh. I gotta go explore all locations now! PINOY POWER

Yelp
I love this bakery! We've tried the ube cake, ube flan, mango supreme cake, and so many of the mamons and packaged goodies. I really enjoy their flakey empanadas. The spicy chicken and beef empanadas are my favorite. We visit this bakery pretty often!

Yelp
Stopped by the tiny Red Ribbon Bakeshop inside of the Sea Food City market yesterday for some delicious mamon and Filipino pastries. Red Ribbon has always been a core memory from my childhood when I lived in the Philippines so I'm happy that we have our own tiny little shop here in Chicago. They offer a variety of different flavor mamon (which is a Filipino type of sponge cake) that's always so soft and not too sweet! I recommend the cheese mamon and the cheesy ensaimada which is my favorite! My family usually like to buy their cakes for special occasions (which they also sell by the slice) They have a variety of different Filipino flavors like ube and mango supreme but our family fave has always been their Black Forest cake which is a very rich chocolate cake with maraschino cherries. They also serve coffee and meals like palabok, arroz caldo, and empanadas which I have yet to try. A lot of criticism comes from the pricing since we're used to getting these desserts back in the Philippines for a lot cheaper (which I totally understand) But overall , I think everyone should give Red Ribbon a try. This Bakeshop is a Filipino staple and whether you're going in for the nostalgia or trying it for the first time, I'm pretty sure you're going to like it!

Yelp
This place has some pretty good soft bread, the staff in here were so nice in here I got a halo halo I would recommend getting the halo halo from seafood city cafe its self. This time they were just out of them so I opt to try this place , everything was nice fresh and clean the brownie from her was delicious , the place is really small no seating more like a grab and go

Kristine K.

Yelp
Always love their cakes and pastries, they're my go-to, service is amazing and very very clean.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with this bakeshop. Try their mamon, ensaymada, and brownies. Their cakes are really flavorful and moist. I suggest the mango cake!

Yelp
$40 for a days old ube cake and after 20 minute wait (no one else in store) was given flan cake instead. Very disappointing. PS. Tried to leave comment on website, but you can't submit without store location name that was missing from teceipt. (No surprise why they left it off.)
google avatar

Yelp
This is a small bakery that is connected to the Seafood City Filipino supermarket. The only item I can truly vouch for is the halo halo--it's a refreshing dessert. Translating to "mix mix," it is a dessert consisting of shaved ice, condensed milk, sweetened beans, sweet jellies, ube (purple yam), and topped with flan and ice cream. It's a textural experience: chewy, slushy, and melty all in one. In terms of ambience, this is a very small bakery, and there is usually a line starting from the side inside the supermarket. The service is quick--I usually get my halo halo within a minute of ordering it. Parking is in the big supermarket lot!

Yelp
After eating dinner, I was craving for something sweet so I decided to stop by Red Ribbon. As I walked in, I saw there were Thanksgiving decorations and autumn leaves on the front display section. The decorations visually brought out the Fall season atmosphere. During my sweets trip, I decided to purchase three Mamons to take home. The flavors I bought were Ube, Mocha, and Butter. When I got home, I decided to eat the Ube Mamon and it tasted amazing! It had a soft spongy texture and sweetened to perfection. I consumed the Ube Mamon and it satisfied my sweets craving. Thank you Red Ribbon!

Yelp
My son and his family went Chicago and stopped by the seafood city , fine and ordered lots of baked goods at the red ribbon bakeshop. They got them Monday. They got home and gave me the main and ensaymada two packs each. Upon opening the pack of mamon, I was surprised seeing the spots of tiny molds growing on top of the bread. I looked at the date it's 07/27/24. The bread must be old but they still want to sell them. I wanted to return the bread but we live in Indiana and it takes almost 4 hours of travel. I hope the store manager is aware of this. Cause it's very unfair for their customers paying for items that aren't supposed for sale. Very upset and unhappy customer here. I am not going to buy in their good anymore. Lesson learned.

Yelp
I ordered the Mango Supreme cake to celebrate a friend's birthday. She loved it, my friends loved it. They are so friendly and helpful. Lots of items to choose from. I will definitely go back.

Regine N.

Yelp
I love the ube ensaymada, halo halo was fire and the mango cake was very good since it wasnt too sweet. Will try the ube cake next!

Yelp
I grew up getting baked goods from Red Ribbon in the Philippines and when they opened a store here in Chicago it brought back some great memories. The food is good but my favorite is their Palabok. Which in my opinion is slightly better than the Palabok that Jollibee has. Service is great and the store ambiance is very nostalgic as it reminds me of the Red Ribbons back in the Philippines.

Rio Roxan R.

Yelp
love their palabok. Price is reasonable. the cakes a little pricey but they're delicious
google avatar

LV R.

Yelp
Warning! TOURIST PRICES AHEAD! Good food, although service leaves much to be desired. There's always a longgggggg line (approx 15-20 mins). Also, I believe the prices in this entire facility were set by one person. Because we've bought and dined on all of them, and I came to a conclusion that Everyone's jacking up their prices, even before the pandemic. Yes, I believe that this business establishment is overpriced as well. I'm not paying $40 for a cake that I can get at Jewel-Osco for half of that ($20).

Yelp
This place went above and beyond for me tonight and I really appreciate them letting me pick up my cake a little late I feel bad but my son is turning 18 tomorrow and I had no way of getting there tomorrow for his birthday I wish I would've had cash I would've definitely given them a nice tip! Thank you so much for making my son birthday complete with his favorite Ube cake!
google avatar

Ellie K.

Yelp
Someone recommended me the Mango cake from Red Ribbon Bakery a while ago, so I ordered the mango dedication cake online for a birthday party and also asked to write Happy birthday on it. When I went to pick it up it looked smaller than I expected, so I got an Ube overload cake as a back up. Everyone loved the cakes! I personally loved the ube cake more. I just wish they put the size/measurements or serving size on the website, but overall satisfied!
google avatar

Yelp
I always love bringing home as pasalubong their butter melt mamon. It's going to be delivered all the way to Michigan State. The server was nice enough to give me a later date when I said we will be driving far. Service was fast. Tagalog speaking manager and crew members. Halo-halo was ok. Best seller was the empanada for that night. Lots of cakes waiting to be boxed and served. mango, ube and chocolate cakes present. Will go back for more when we come visit Chicago!
google avatar

Gerry T.

Yelp
I have to say that Red Ribbon is very consistent, across the US and all over the Philippines, you'll always get the same cake - which is great, there are no surprises. My favorites cakes are the ube and choco crunch overload or whatever they call it. The cakes are always completely eaten at any party and you won't get any complaints by bringing a Red Ribbon cake. You may not get thee best cake (the kind you get from a family owned bakery) but, you will get what you expect and that continuity has led to their success.
google avatar

Padma A.

Yelp
The mango cake was delicious not too sweet and light . I will definitely stop by the bakery to pick some other varieties.

Yelp
Welcome to Red Ribbon! If you are Filipino, you already know what it is. If you're American wondering how it is you can win over a Filipinese person's heart or how to be in with the family? This is one of the best ways to it. This chain has been long king of the filipino sponge cake. Butter mamon is usually the common present to our cousins and mom's if you're traveling to a city that has one. Even if you're just trying it out for the first time. It's definitely an awesome light dessert or a quick breakfast bread paired with a hot cup of coffee. This is a place that brings back memories to every filipino that grew up in the mother land. It's something very familiar and heart warming to them/us. Just the sheer site of the store or the smell that comes when they tear open and individually wrapped cake is heaven. This is why, no matter what, Red Ribbon is the gold standard in filipino pastries. Thanks for reading my review. I hope this helps. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!
google avatar

Kristine K.

Yelp
I love their ube cake!!! The lady at the cashier today was accommodating and gave us disposable cake cutter and to-go cake slices containers so we can cut the whole cake accordingly. I wish Red Ribbon sells cake slices of every flavors! But I appreciate the efforts and accommodations.

Avelita Z.

Yelp
cake is somewhat good, sometimes its fresh but some days not. NEVER BUY their halo halo. my mom bought 3 halo halo but was very disappointed as it is a scam! because theres only BEANS in it. it's supposed to be mixed with everything thats why its called "halo halo".
google avatar

Cesar S.

Yelp
4th time going and I cannot get a slice of ube overload. I've gone early, midday and night; each time Im told they are "out." Every time they have been out, I've seen full cakes in the fridge. I don't understand how a bakery claims to be out of cake, but I can physically see one. Cut a slice from the 3 cakes I'm looking at.
google avatar

Christy M.

Yelp
WOOOOOOOOW. The only thing I regret was not buying the full size mango supreme cake! I only bought the small slice... which was very affordable! Gosh, I gobbled up that one cake slice in less than a minute it was so delicious! The mangos on top of the cake were perfectly ripe, I feel like they only use the best ready fruit. The layers of the cake were so very moist. What an amazing cake, I highly recommend. I do with that they sold candles for birthdays. That's my only recommendation. Also I got the Uber ensymada. Very buttery, flaky, and soft. Yum! No complaints. Mmmm nom nom.
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries in Chicago! A patient brought in mango cake to the hospital to say thanks and now I cannot live without the Mango Roll. It's slightly sweet, fruity, fluffy, and the perfect amount of dessert to split for the week. Available on door dash!
google avatar

Mandy P.

Yelp
Nice that you can wait in line inside the market. Plenty of cake selection. Mamons are super moist and light. Butter is not too sweet. Chocolate is nice and bitter.
google avatar

Yelp
Filipino bakery goodness crammed into this small store! What to buy...ube overload cake? Ube macapuno roll? Butter, mocha, or ube mamon? Mango supreme cake? Cheesy ensaymada? Oh hell, how about every item in this damn store! Lol, and no I'm joking. The first few months, most of my paychecks were spent inside Seafood City and this store was one of them! If you are into purple yam (ube) or mango, try a slice before purchasing a cake. I've ended up buying these cakes for special occassion and the appearance is the trademark. Filipinos would know it's from Red Ribbon because it comes in its red box with a logo. Cheesy ensaymada is best eaten warm, so nook it for 30 seconds for its melted cheese, sugar soaked into the this bread roll, and soft inside texture. Mamon is best eaten with a glass of milk or coffee. This bread is so soft that when shoved into your mouth, you need a beverage nearby! This place also serves coffee and 3 types of meat empanadas. Huge parking lot; when it gets busy, the parking lot is connected to a neighborhood block... which you can park there as well.

Yelp
You must absolutely visit this place. If you have a hint of sweetness in you. For non Filipinos this is a safe and delicious place to sample our culture. The following are must try in this order. 1. Taisan - Light pound cake loaded with more butter than you want to know. Warm it very briefly in the microwave first. To die for! 2. Sans Rival - It's layers of meringue with butter icing and cashews. Absolutely indulgent! 3. Mango Supreme Cake - chiffon cake with mango glaze and butter icing with mango pieces. Sublime compared to the first two but still leaves an impression on your senses to last a life time. This place has a ton more to offer But I try to keep my reviews brief. So try the top three first and then the rest.
google avatar

Rachelle G.

Yelp
The cakes are delicious. Go on a weekday, weekends are too crowded. The mango supreme cake is excellent.
google avatar

Isabella D.

Yelp
Love this bakery! Great Mamon and chicken empanadas. I love how the entrance is separated from the exit, this makes it an easy in and out bakery
google avatar

trixie jane m.

Yelp
I loved going here until today I found a bug in my ensaimada! I'd drive 40 minutes to grab Filipino desserts. Looks like it has come to an end.
google avatar

Meg T.

Yelp
The mango and ube cakes are always fresh and moist. I brought them to a taco eat all you can in the park where we were able to practice social distancing. I wasn't sure if these cakes would blend in as desserts after everyone ate tacos. To my surprise everyone enjoyed both cakes to the last slice.
google avatar

Elaine M.

Yelp
Delicious Mango Cake - light, fluffy, not too sweet. A whole cake serves about 8. 6-10 depending on how you slice it! Cheese ensaymada was very good. Heat in the microwave for a few seconds - yum! Empanadas were pricy, but tasty filling and good crust. Our favorites, in order best first: beef, pork, chicken. Looking forward to trying their other products, esp. the Ube and Black Forest cakes.
google avatar

Lowell C.

Yelp
I really love the Filipino treats in there, but things went bad. I was there Wednesday 6/25/20 bought 2 bags of Ube& Cheese Mamon. In 4 days I have to throw some out, it was very moldy to the max. What's up with that. I happened to be in the area that's why I stopped by. Never again.
google avatar

Seth O.

Yelp
I just hope the Chicago location would answer their local business phone for quick inquiries. On 5 different occasions, I tried calling 3-5 times each but no response from the store... Empanadas are good as usual, cakes are almost of the same taste as they are in the Philippines. Food quality, no complains...
google avatar

Abegail T.

Yelp
Visited my family here and was craving red ribbon goodies. I am very disappointed and might advised my family never to buy anything from here! I bought some goodies in here only to find out that it has mold inside of it. I would bring it to return it and ask for refun but I am back home in Texas!
google avatar

Ashton S.

Yelp
I had the beef empanada and a halo halo. They both were good. The halo halo was unique....... I didn't care for the beans though lol. But i enjoyed it.

Erika Jane E.

Yelp
We drove all the way from Lv to maryland we where approaching the store they said , they are close at 6:05 pm , but their regular hours is 8am to 8 pm.

Fe B.

Yelp
I came from out of town and I bought mamon on a suggestion from my friend. When I got home and opened it more than one mamon had mold on it. I emailed to complain about how they could serve this or how this could happen if it was "fresh" and no one responded to me. It was a disappointing experience and an even more disappointing lack of customer service.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Meh. Most of their goods are baked off site. You can tell by the lack of aroma in the air and the packaging the goods come in. My asawa and I bought goods here and from Valerio's tropical bakeshop, which is right next door....also inside "seafood city market". Our verdict? Verlerio's wins hands down!
google avatar

Kawla Jane B.

Yelp
I really want to love this bakeshop as me and my family had been buying baked goods here since it opened. I bought an ube overload cake for my son's party on a Friday afternoon. People in the counter usually open the box for you to check but this time she didn't do it and I did not bother for we had been buying here for awhile and never had any problems. Got home and to my dismay the cake was falling apart (see photos). I was so disappointed for I paid $25.99 for a cake that it seems going to be expired soon. Surely enough when we ate it, it tasted so old and tiny molds already forming on the chiffon. We don't get $$$ from a tree you know and I think I deserve to have a decent cake for my son's party. After all, I paid for it. Hesitant to come back here after this. I will definitely let my family and friends know about this experience. I even emailed them twice regarding this just to be ignored. Since when did red ribbon did not care about their customer service? Sigh. That $25.99 down the drain. So disappointing. That is all.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Red Ribbon has good sponge cakes but the reason I gave it a 1 star is because I found mold on two of my sponge cakes a day before they were supposed to expire. My friend bought me a pack of 5 sponge cakes - 2 ube, 2 butter, 1 mocha. Two days later, I found mold on two of the sponge cakes. The date sticker on the packaging indicated that the cakes would last until 6/7. Why was there already mold growing on the cakes? It was so disappointing.

Yelp
You had me at Mango...I had the MANGO SUPREME CAKE and UBE Halaya. First for the Mango Cake wow so fluffy and really lite, its not heavy like some other brands of cakes. Very very nice..

M. B.

Yelp
I love how they are so fast in this place. I love palabok and it's cheaper and faster to buy it here than Jollibee. Their cakes are yummy and not so sweet. The staff is really friendly and helpful everytime we come.
