Red Velvet

I love red velvet cake and wanted to five this place a try. Upon entering, the selection was limited, so we chose from what was available. The red velvet cupcake was dry and lacked flavor. The icing was very good, but I typically prefer to eat more cake and less icing. The chocolate chip cookie was soft and crumbly. Overall, I don't think I will return as it didn't meet my red velvet expectations.

Friendly staff. Not many people around 4PM. Limited staff. There is a restaurant attached which serves food. The cupcakes were delicious. Looked good and tasted good. There are some vegan options available. They also have coffee, tea etc. Will go again.

If you want a delicious cupcake then this is not the place. The cupcakes are too dry and floury, and the cream is so thick it almost feels like a fudge sitting on the cake. The cream is easily separated from the cake as if a chocolate bar is sitting on the cake. I used to love the red velvet cupcakes at the Reston town center but they shut down that location and opened it here on sunset hills. This is not the same red velvet. Don't waste your money. Each dry, bitter, tasteless cupcake is close to $4. Go to a grocery store if you're looking for a basic cupcake

Possibly some of the greatest cupcakes I've ever had. The Vanilla Bean and Cookies and Cream are absolutely amazing.

Updating due to location change: They used to have a wider selection of cupcakes and now fewer. However they are still very good. Service is great and they have tables and chairs.

The presentation, quality and taste of the cupcakes have plummeted big time. I bought a dozen recently for my birthday and I was extreamly disappointed. The cupcakes were so dry and stale and the icing was overly sweet. I’ve had their cupcakes before so not sure what’s going on. I almost wanted to ask for a refund as these are not high quality cupcakes and they landed in the trash.

Great customer service... horrible cupcakes 🧁! Stubbled across this place while going to lunch with friends. I was so excited to try them out and convinced the rest of my party to join me. $4 a cupcake seems to be the normal range. All the flavor choices made it hard to choose. We all got a good mix of all the flavors but missed triamsu, so we decided we would split it right there in the store. The pastry chef grabbed us a plate and knife (super cute). As soon as we bit in there was a flavor explosion in our mouths but unfortunately, the cupcake with cornbread like texture stayed right in my throat. My friend had to turn around quickly to remove what remained from her mouth. It was such a good experience we didn't want to offend her and swiftly left the establishment. We're still exchanging cash app request to see who will reimburse for this catastrophe of a tasty treat excursion. 😆 🤣 Want a good chat? This is your place...... Ordered snickerdoodle cookie and cookies/cream chocolate cupcake. The cookie was good but my wife and I believe the cupcake was the best we have ever had.

Good quality cupcakes, but nothing super fancy. The cupcake decoration is minimal, but still super cute. The interior is quite nice and it doesn't seem to busy as there was only one person manning the front desk. It's a small shop in the plaza, but it is clean and well maintained. It's hard to find a good cupcake place, but this location gets points due to its consistency in quality, efficiency, and good service.

I used to come to Red Velvet when they were located in the Reston Town Center. They closed and this is my first time finally visiting again after them reopening in Reston. My absolute favorite was the Hazelnut cupcake that they carried before, but when I called and asked, looks like they no longer make it. Hopefully they will bring that one back one day! The atmosphere of this new location of theirs is much more roomy, there's many tables for you to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and bakery goods. Very nice trendy vibe. I ordered their Maple Oat Scone and wow! Absolutely amazing! Super soft and I the flavors of maple, oat. And touch of cinnamon is soooo good! Definitely a must try and amazing to go with coffee.

I am giving 2 stars only because it was close by and the place had a clean vibe. Other than that , I would not order gluten free cupcakes from here at all! YUK! I preordered 16 cupcakes for bday party pickup for Friday afternoon. It took 3 employees and almost 15 minutes to ring up the order , even after the manager gave me the final price over the phone. After my bday activity, i gave out the cupcakes and noticed some people only had half and didn't understand until I tried mine. They were chocolate gf and vanilla gf. The cake tasted artificial like rice flour with crisco and the icing was not like a red velvet topping for sure . I am gluten free and have baked amazing cakes myself. These were awful so I ended up throwing out 6 cupcakes when I got home! After $66 (over $4 / cc) , I prefer to bake myself or go back to the Happy Tart in falls church.

Used to frequent this place when they were in RTC, first visit to new location. Nothing has changed and cupcakes are delicious as ever!!! Yum yummy yum I will be back. Note that they have gluten free cupcakes and they are SO good. Service is very friendly.

I'm excited that Red Velvet Cupcakery is back in Reston! I used to go get cupcakes from Red Velvet the Reston town center location at least once a week. This new location in Reston is located near town center, it's in the same shopping center as the Starbucks & Chick-fil-A shopping center across from Target. I went Saturday late afternoon and they were almost all sold out of cupcakes. So if you are looking to get their cupcakes, I suggest pre-order online or go early. They open at 11am. These delightful cupcakes are moist and scrumptious with creamy flavorful frosting on top.

I believe this place has closed. I have been there several times over the past month during hours of work and the doors are closed and no one inside. I would love to know where I can find them locally, if they moved their location.

I wish I had a chance to try this afternoon. They appeared to be closed to a private event but were selectively serving non-event guests outside. When I asked to purchase a cupcake I was turned away. Online hours should have been updated as I drove quite a bit to get here. Additionally, interesting and concerning how some non-private event guests were served but not others.

If you like typical, ultra sweet American stuff, you have found the place for you. The cupcakes were so sweet that just looking at one cupcake could bring on full blown diabetes. The photo with the train wreck, well, that was likely a careless GrubHub driver.

I was really excited to see a Red Velvet Cupcakery in Reston today. The one near the Capital One Arena was closed when I drove by this past Sunday. This was a really nice, sit down location, with parking. I ordered something different this visit. I ordered the White Chocolate Velvet Cupcakes. Waiting until I got home was out of the question, I had to try it. I love white chocolate. Unfortunately, this flavor cupcake did not tickle my fancy. The cupcake's frosting was salty and it had an eggy taste. The cake part was awesome! Next visit, I'll stick with the Red Velvet Cupcake. #HappyEating

This place is part of a bigger place so the actual section where you can get cupcakes is very small with a small selection. I got a red velvet one since I assume if that is your name that is the best one you have. The cupcake was definitely nothing spectacular, the icing and cupcake itself is not bad, but not great for that price/size. I would avoid and find your cupcake fix somewhere else.

Came here and ordered 6 cupcakes. The service was friendly and all my questions were answered. Unfortunately, all of the cupcakes (6 different kinds) had a relatively hard cake bottom and the liner stuck hard to all of them. And by stuck, I mean that when I tried to take off the liners, each pull would tear the paper as opposed to being able to take off the liner as a whole. I don't know if it means the cupcakes were all old or what but it's definitely not what I expected.

We were disappointed with the cupcakes. We've gotten them a few times before and they were good but this time the frosting was weirdly crunchy and the chocolate tasted odd. They also weren't cookies n' cream like we ordered. I let one of the proprietors know about our issue but never heard back. Customer service has been a problem for us in the past with this bakery.

I got the red velvet cupcake and unfortunately it tasted like it was sitting out all day, it was very dry. The person helping us also wasn't very friendly when we asked about customized orders. We were brushed off and not given much information. I'm disappointed because I had high expectations! I don't think I'll be coming back.

I visited this establishment this past Saturday. I was really excited to have a location closer to come as I didn't want to drive all the way to DC to get a cupcake. I placed an order via grub hub, which was a smooth process. I enter the restaurant, first off there is no one there at the counter. Fine. I see two people who work in the attached restaurant, look at me without an acknowledgment, a hi, we'll be with you or anything. Another set of patrons enter the restaurant and we greeted with a warm welcome and menus. After seating them, one of the staff I mentioned previously finally came over and said can I help you. That alone was irritating. I get my cupcakes and head home hoping there was a silver lining...nah. These cupcake were hard and dry. I ordered one red velvet and one carrot cake. Both gross and a waste of money. Do not waste your time.

Finally! Red Velvet is back to Reston and we've missed it. Simple cupcakes, right size and decadent flavors as always. Now that they are located inside the new pizza place, makes for a superb dinner and dessert spot.

We were looking for a bakery out in Reston Town Center...surprisingly that there isn't one in the actual center. If you've read my other reviews, you know I look for cupcake bakeries. This place looks pretty new. They had 6 different kinds of cupcakes and a few cookies on display. I favor non chocolate based cupcakes, so we shared the cupcake called summertime. At first blush, I will be honest...I didn't not have high expectations. I felt rushed by the counter person, which was the reason for the 4 stars. There was no one else in there....no need to ask us 3 times in 5 minutes if we've made a decision. :( onto the good parts....the cupcake cake was good, dense and yummy enough that you didn't need to eat it with the icing. The icing could be eaten alone as well. Not too sweet and perfect consistency. I would visit again and this time hopefully get a server who would let me weigh my options.

Beyond excited to have Red Velvet back in Reston! Hands down the best cupcakes in the DMV! Enjoyed every single bite of the Peanut Butter Cup!
