File under first world problems, turns out that when you're in the hospitality industry, it means, like in Love Story, that you never have to say your sorry, at least, if you're the manager of the Red Wolf Lodge in Kingsbeach. Although, having stayed here 4 times in the last year, we failed to notice that the curious lack of charm displayed by management during our last/final stay, was a feature, not a bug. This Xmas we booked a "studio" at our erstwhile, favorite Lodge, we paid $300/night, for the two nights we were to stay, a lot, a lot. And discovered that our quaint little studio had NO bed, try as we might, be could find only a well appointed little suite, sans bed, "what IS that you say?" how could this be possible, given that, besides an "en suite" bathroom, when you book a hotel room, you will, get, concomitantly, a bed. Yes, of course, I started to look for the telltale signs of a murphy bed, and was rewarded quickly and disappointingly , producing a boxspring-less muddle of a twin bed. Apparently, we failed to notice that there was a murphy bed in the last "studio" we rented, as it was already in place, i.e. large enough to be in the down position. This was a smaller suite and anyway, who wouldn't want to be welcomed by a hotel room without a bed. Erin, the manager took great pains to explain in the cold hard logic of "greedy pinhead" that of course, a studio means a murphy bed, that a murphy bed is needed given that an almost full size kitchen, strangely, is also included. We're talking about a kitchen that could easily be in a three bedroom house that only can hold two somewhat small people in the twin murphy bed. Why not have, I don't know, a real bed in your outrageously expensive hotel room. The bottom line with Erin is that it was clearly our fault that we hadn't read the fineprint, that nothing would be done to accommodate our concerns and that we should be ashamed to even think such thoughts. On top of this, the internet is 10 year old motel 6 slow. Did I mention the nightly rate? And the lack of any interest, in the slightest, to address our deep disappointment at the crap bed and the cost. Erin, did call us to let us know that she wasn't, in the slightest, apologetic for our deep disappointment and what we perceived as poor treatment. Erin didn't care that we were frequent guests and only wanted to sing the praises of the Red Wolf Lodge. This will be our last stay here. If you do want to stay here, make sure you are okay with a murphy bed or that you get a room that has a regular bed. They have two very nice hot tubs and a lakeside pool, very well located, well outfitted, insanely expensive for what we experienced, crap attitude, crap internet.
