The Redbox

"With business acumen and cooking techniques gleaned from their travels, Chef Dan and partner Pimmada offer modern Thai with Malaysian and Brunei influences. They import select ingredients like salted eggs from Chaiya, and Gula Melaka (Malaysian palm sugar) to create treats like Siam Ruby, a signature dessert. We recommend the signature creation cocktail with a complexity of flavours before your unforgettable meal. Seating is limited so bookings are essential." - Michelin Inspector

We were hungry and so we googled. We went with no expectations. Nestled in a quiet road opposite Maya Mall, we were their first guests of the day. Upon opening the door, then we realise it was an award winning Michelin restaurant. We went for their tasting menu, couldn’t drink as I had to wake up early. The moment we sat down, the wait staffs were extremely friendly and courteous which makes it very welcoming. Every dish was explained thoroughly and in detail. Every single dish and drinks was delectable and scrumptious! Though on the slightly pricier side, it is well worth every penny spent. Words cannot describe the taste at all. A very unique dining experience you cannot miss in Chiang Mai. Kudos and Special thanks to Chef Dan and his team for making my birthday a pleasantly wonderful surprise! We hope to come back again in future. Meanwhile, keep your creative juices flowing and continue to curate innovative cuisine.

Warm and friendly The starter really highlighted Thai flavors with a fresh, modern touch—light but full of impact. From the main course to dessert, everything was spot on. I always bring guests here, and they’re never disappointed.

Not recommended as this is certainly a tourist trap. Some concepts are nice, but nothing too worthy. The worst part is that they will try to take as much money from you as possible, for even a simple pot of tea that was not mentioned how much it would cost and whether we would be charged for it. The price is way too high for what you get although we don’t mind paying even more for food and dining experiences that are worth it, so it’s not surprising that there were only two other tables that were occupied throughout our dining time. An ideal pricing point would be half of what is charged (we paid around 15,000 baht with only one small bottle for wine which was not that high anyways). Some dishes were amazing, and many others a total failure. Presentation was stellar, but taste was below average. However, the river prawn dish was honestly amazing! Hands down the best one we had in Thailand! The tenderloin itself was not tasting good at all and was cooked quite badly. It tasted like a cheap supermarket meat, but the sauce was nice. The prelude was not so good, we didn’t like most of them. The scallops were nice, but a bit too heavy. The fish and chips were a unique combination. The roti and naan breads were not good at all. We came here before several time. Would we come back? Certainly not. We like trying Michelin recommended restaurants, but this was a bit absurd for what you get.

This was, simply put, the best dining experience we’ve ever had in Chiang Mai. Cannot praise it enough. Beautiful decor, stunning menu, awesome food quality and presentation and world-class service. It easily deserves a Michelin star in our view. Please don’t miss out. You won’t be disappointed.

If you’re in the mood for Thai food elevated with a modern twist, Redbox is a must-try. This fine dining spot dazzles with outstanding creativity in every dish, pushing the boundaries of traditional Thai flavors without losing their soul. The taste is simply amazing—bold, balanced, and beautifully layered. Their duck breast with Thai sauce stole the show: tender, perfectly cooked, and glazed with a sauce that delivered a masterful blend of spice, and depth. It’s one of those dishes that lingers on your mind long after the last bite. The service was warm and attentive, complementing the overall fine dining experience. A standout moment was when the chef personally came to our table after the meal, taking time to gather feedback and genuinely engaging with our thoughts. It’s a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more personalized and memorable.

I’ve tried Redbox across a few seasons, and this season’s “Nature and Culture” is truly amazing. The journey begins with a playful regional welcome of small bites and continues with a starter that’s simply outstanding. every dish delights the palate with beautiful plating and flavors. And don’t forget to try their signature blend tea perfect finishing with petit fours. ❤️

Went to the restaurant during lunch time before my flight at early night. As we don't have enough time to take full experiences and we were recommended to take only some special recommended from waiting staff. From my opinion for this Thai modern cusine they are so amazing, creatively and passioned in what they do. Staff are very polite and knowledgable on the menu. Food are very tasting and we can feel that they try to elevate Thai food to the next level; which is they did well.

Such a wonderful new experience of modern Thai! The reinterpretation of Thai amuse-bouche and the starter was so creative. My favorite dish was the Thai river prawn with Chiu Chee curry—beautifully balanced with Thai herbs. Big thumbs up to the chef!
