The Redbox

"With business acumen and cooking techniques gleaned from their travels, Chef Dan and partner Pimmada offer modern Thai with Malaysian and Brunei influences. They import select ingredients like salted eggs from Chaiya, and Gula Melaka (Malaysian palm sugar) to create treats like Siam Ruby, a signature dessert. We recommend the signature creation cocktail with a complexity of flavours before your unforgettable meal. Seating is limited so bookings are essential." - Michelin Inspector

We were hungry and so we googled. We went with no expectations. Nestled in a quiet road opposite Maya Mall, we were their first guests of the day. Upon opening the door, then we realise it was an award winning Michelin restaurant. We went for their tasting menu, couldn’t drink as I had to wake up early. The moment we sat down, the wait staffs were extremely friendly and courteous which makes it very welcoming. Every dish was explained thoroughly and in detail. Every single dish and drinks was delectable and scrumptious! Though on the slightly pricier side, it is well worth every penny spent. Words cannot describe the taste at all. A very unique dining experience you cannot miss in Chiang Mai. Kudos and Special thanks to Chef Dan and his team for making my birthday a pleasantly wonderful surprise! We hope to come back again in future. Meanwhile, keep your creative juices flowing and continue to curate innovative cuisine.

This was, simply put, the best dining experience we’ve ever had in Chiang Mai. Cannot praise it enough. Beautiful decor, stunning menu, awesome food quality and presentation and world-class service. It easily deserves a Michelin star in our view. Please don’t miss out. You won’t be disappointed.

If you’re in the mood for Thai food elevated with a modern twist, Redbox is a must-try. This fine dining spot dazzles with outstanding creativity in every dish, pushing the boundaries of traditional Thai flavors without losing their soul. The taste is simply amazing—bold, balanced, and beautifully layered. Their duck breast with Thai sauce stole the show: tender, perfectly cooked, and glazed with a sauce that delivered a masterful blend of spice, and depth. It’s one of those dishes that lingers on your mind long after the last bite. The service was warm and attentive, complementing the overall fine dining experience. A standout moment was when the chef personally came to our table after the meal, taking time to gather feedback and genuinely engaging with our thoughts. It’s a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more personalized and memorable.

This Michelin-recommended restaurant is truly exceptional. The food was excellent, combining Western techniques with bold Thai flavors in a creative and delicious way. Chef Dan made the experience even more special by giving us a tour of the kitchen and their 40+ year-old family house where the restaurant is located. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves to try new cuisines. Make sure to book ahead, it’s absolutely worth it for this unforgettable experience!

This restaurant offers an excellent dining atmosphere, truly worth the price. The staff are friendly and provide exceptional service. What impressed me the most was the food, it was outstanding. I’m surprised this place hasn’t yet received a Michelin star. The drinks and wine are of high quality, with a wide variety to choose from. I’m thoroughly impressed and highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you’re in Chiang Mai.

Extremely expensive for what you get. This place tries to deliver a fine dining experience and fails. Food was less than mediocre and the atmosphere was cold. I cannot recommend one dish of the ones I tried. With the amazing food you can find in Thailand this is a waist of money. Good wine selection and service but wine you pay premium price and unfortunately service is not what you’ve come for.

BEWARE: TOURIST TRAP!!! If you are reading this post because you are not sure about having a great dining experience in Chiang Mai for 280euro/person level place, I hereby urge you to change your mind immediately. This will be horrible experience! It is definitely be the worst Michelin. It should not be Michelin at all. I come here because I trust lonely planet and Michelin but this turned out to be the worst thing I have ever done in Chiang Mai. The beef steak was clearly frozen, not fresh. The shrimp was not fresh and tastes Exactly the same as shrimp crackers that you can find in any grocery store. The second picture is made of a small piece of cheap dried pineapple that you can easily find at night market. The smoked ice cream looked like a good idea but they should not taste like candles. Wines are just regular supermarket level wine. The bread was cold and not freshly baked, seemed taken out from the fridge. The food seemed not carefully cooked. Lamb was salty, but OK. Anyway, this should cost less than 80 euro but I spent 280, ridiculous. PLEASE avoid this place. The reply from restaurant claims they have “high standard” which is totally lie. Again, this is not about flavor, it is about quality: the food is carelessly chosen and made. At the end we talked with the chef and expressed our comments on the dishes. It seems that he doesn't care about this with a creepy smile. Attached please find the bill. We were unexpectedly charged 300B for the water, so be aware. Anyway, if you choose to believe the good comments and think this bad review might be because our personal preference, just go and try it. If any of you find this is actually worth the money then send me a message I'll delete this comment. I am very disappointed not only for the quality of the mediocore dishes they served but also for the unprofessional service. If this Michelin is not fake, I am also disappointed of Michelin system, this is a shame. The feedback from restaurant is a lie: that day there is total 4 tables dining there including me. 3 Chinese and 1 French. The staffs and chef are the worst I have ever seen in Michelin level restaurants. The restaurant is an evil tourist trap.
