Where to Eat and Drink on the Oregon Coast

"With one of the most stunning views of any restaurant on the Oregon Coast, Port Orford’s favorite date-night dining destination intertwines sunset views, vibrantly curated art, and succulent seafood. Owned and operated by the Hawthorne family of artists — who also own the gallery next door — the Redfish experience includes lively abstract art on the wall and bespoke funky chairs and bar furnishings crafted by metalworkers. Lunch and dinner dishes include tiny pink shrimp cakes, crab mac and cheese, and lamb shanks over cheesy polenta (the lamb is sourced in nearby Langlois). Sit out on the deck to gaze upon Battle Rock beach while sipping a martini and nibbling on cheese-and-vegetable beignets." - Jennifer Burns Bright

Yelp
We sat outside in the evening for dinner and had such a wonderful experience. Great cocktails, lovely local wine, delicious food, gorgeous views of the Pacific, and incredible service + conversation + care from Harleigh. A much needed place of peace and calm.

Yelp
Redfish is one of the best restaurants on the southern coast and has always been a favorite of mine. They have gone through some recent menu changes that leave me with questions (see the awful hamburger picture from their limited "pre-dinner" menu) , but they also produce some lovely dishes. I would recommend arriving for lunch or dinner and avoiding their "in between time" unless you want to enjoy some drinks before receiving the full menu. Reservations are also very helpful as they are small and spots are often called in advance.

Yelp
We came for lunch and in retrospect, it might have been better coming for dinner; as there was a somewhat limited menu at lunch. The decor in the restaurant is lovely, with dark colors, lots of original art and rich wood and metal tables and chairs. All of the tables have a lovely ocean view. Truly not a bad seat on the house. There is also Al-fresco dining, but it was a little too cold to enjoy the patio. Service was rapid and friendly. The environment was nice until some children who were loud (one was coughing uncovered onto all of us,) and apparently they were related to the owner. Once they arrived on the scene, it made it feel chaotic, when it would otherwise have felt lovely and intimate. We had a Caesar salad, fish tacos, clam appetizer and clam chowder. The Caesar was by far my favorite entree. Has bits of anchovies which was not overwhelming, but added to the umami. The greens were fresh and delicious and the lemon was fresh tasting. Of If I were to return, I'd have a larger salad and skip the appetizer and wouldn't choose the clam chowder or clam appetizer or fish tacos. Next the fish tacos. Fairly bland with no flavor besides the salsa that accompanied it. We couldn't finish them, and there were only two. The clam appetizer was overly heavy with garlic, and cooled too quickly. This dish is best served for multiple people so it can be consumed quickly. The bread that accompanied it was quite hard, and we couldn't eat it. It was beyond the crispiness of toast points and was closer to croutons consistency, but was still in large slices that wasn't really suited to dipping into the small bowl of clams. It would have been nice to be offered an empty bowl to stack the empty clam shells. The clam chowder is the first one I've tasted on the coast that doesn't have bacon. That's a good thing. However, it seemed to have too much corn starch or flour, so lost some of the signature creaminess associated with this dish. The addition of fresh corn also made it a little too sweet for my taste. I'm still waiting to taste a truly clam-forward clam chowder in Gold Beach and environs, and not just a soup loaded with bacon or corn to cover the taste of clams. The garnish game on the soup was on point, with grated chives and chili oil that added a touch of heat. I wanted to enjoy this restaurant and think I just arrived at the wrong time and on the wrong day. I'd be happy to change my review, but just don't think based on my experience, that I'll be back. It is truly refreshing to have a restaurant on the coast that isn't just serving up fried seafood. I was eager to try something fresh and flavorful. Sorry that it didn't work out on this visit, as I've been waiting a couple of years to eat here.

Yelp
This is a popular restaurant with a classy ambience and an awesome view. I didn't have reservations on a Sunday, and it was booked up. I was kindly offered a seat at the bar, and was made to feel welcome even though they were super busy! I am not a seafood person, so I went with the Redfish burger. It arrived quickly, considering how packed they were. The service was very kind and personable. The burger was high-quality and delicious! The meat was flavorful, and the other components were top-notch as well. The white cheddar cheese had a great aged quality, and the chipotle aioli lent a smokey complexity. It was rich and messy, all of the things I love in a burger, but with some sophisticated touches. The fries were great too! I was really glad to experience one of the best restaurants in the area. Classy, with great service and food prepared with care!

Yelp
The only thing that I appreciated about Redfish was how pleasant our server (Ava) was and how cold the martinis were. To begin, we made a 5:15 reservation for four. We got a call the morning of our reservation informing us that a very large party was coming in and would we mind moving our reservation to 6:15. (In hindsight I should have just canceled.) We were coming in from several time zones away and wanted an early meal (not to mention delayed flights and a five+ hour drive from the airport) but we acquiesced because we were on the road and had no real knowledge of port orford. I specifically asked if we were going to get the short end of the stick arriving right after such a large party and was told 'Not at all! We're moving you so you don't get the short end of the stick!' No apology or anything... Take it or leave it. But upon arrival there were multiple four-tops of diners clearly not a part of the large party, so it was evident we were simply bumped. I can understand that, but I'd have preferred they'd have just be straight and apologetic. But then to add insult to injury, when we arrived they gave us the worst table in the house. Right next to the door... Where all the incoming customers gathered waiting to be seated and a blast of air would blow when the front door was opened. I had a great view of all the other diners enjoying their dinner as they had planned though. My wife ordered a glass of Prosecco and I a martini. When the server came around to deliver our daughters' meals (which we ordered ahead of our own meals) I asked for another drink... but after waiting and waiting and with a clear view of the bar and servers, I realized it had been forgotten. I had to go to the bar myself to ask for it. And it was 45 minutes before my wife was asked for another glass of prosecco. I ordered the ribeye ($65)... and it came in two pieces that clearly were not from the same cut of meat or were divided beyond recognition. I asked the server if it was in fact two different pieces of meat because I was so baffled and was told, 'Of course not! We always cut our ribeyes in half.' If they matched and had the same temp I might have agreed. But try as I might those pieces did not go together. The clams were tough and unseasoned and the toast that came with them... well, the picture explains it. Terrible - F. We were so looking forward to a nice night out, and left incredibly disappointed. So much so that I'm writing this review. The only negative review I've ever left online for a restaurant. Maybe it was just a bad night. I can understand - they happen. But if we ever end up in Port Orford again, we will never go back to Redfish.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by WildSpring Guest Habitat, and we feel fortunate to have dined here. Our server, Monica, was outstanding-friendly and knowledgeable-suggesting just the right food. We had the veggie beignets and every part of the dish was unique and delicious. We also had the excellent shrimp cakes, the salad with plentiful berries and hazelnuts, and the steelhead main. Everything was wonderful. The view is incredible and we finished the night with mochachino cheesecake. Don't miss this place in Port Orford!

Yelp
We enjoyed a delicious meal at Redfish. The clam chowder is the best we've ever had! Ava was our server and just delightful and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Beautiful view but we came for a positive tasty food experience. We were referred to drive the extra 30 minutes from the town of Bandon by our gas station attendant, hungry as heck and on the coast? Worth the wait for fresh caught grilled fish! We showed up in between lunch and dinner, limited menu. Nice bartender. Big smile. Pretty place. Great view even on a cloudy windy day. Tells us about the chowder! Chowder. Chowder ~ guess we better order a chowder. Ask about fresh fish ~ uhmmm. No. Their fish is not local. Ohhhhh. Sorry we're out of clams. Did we tell you about our chowder? Yes.....multiple times. Really really hungry. Ohhhh. Bummer. We ask if there are other restaurants close by? Sure. There is a Dive Bar across the street but it is a dive bar. That sounds like crap. Okay. We could get "The Chowder". Oyster shooters. Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. The soup is very good. Shooters pretty are good too. Salad is meh. Grilled shrimps are cooked perfect but salty af. Can't even eat them. I'm thinking it's hit or miss here depending on what time you show up and what their inventory is at the time. Not local seafood in the Oregon coast? Ridiculous

Yelp
Probably the most stunning spot on the southern Oregon coast -- the food was solid (veggie beignets!) and seems to rotate seasonally depending on what the recent catches are. Expect great views, friendly service, solid drinks, and delicious eats. Worth a stop and sunset meal if the timing works!

Yelp
Everything about Redfish is fantastic. Every time! The food, the drinks, the service, and of course, the view: ALL. TOP. NOTCH. Thank you, Redfish! We will be back...

Yelp
This was a delicious find! We came for the view but stayed for the fries && tacos! The staff was excellent, attentive, and patient. We took a bit to order because the place was just so peaceful and beautiful. Everything was top notch, fresh, and you can tell the love that went into the dishes. If you've never had Steelhead before, it's similar to salmon but in my opinion, it has a richer texture and flavor. The oyster shooters were delicious in flavor, texture wasn't bad they were local oysters, but they were HUGE! I couldn't fit them in my mouth so I had to bite into them. They had a lovely kick at the end and overall great. If you're in Port Orford I recommend coming early and sitting outside. Just perfect!

Yelp
Always a favorite when our travels bring us near Port Orford. The view is stunning, the staff and service is genuinely nice, and it's fun to taste the local seasonal fare. The ambiance may be interpreted as a little fancy but you're fine to walk in wearing comfortable clothing after a stroll on the beach below. Dine outside if it's warm and not too windy.

Yelp
For damn near $60 a person I'd expect it to be a kid free zone. Instead my wife and I sat down and immediately after 3 separate parties came in with crying kids. Also a group allowed their kids to run around the restaurant. Again for this price point I was expecting a nice quiet meal. Food was good the atmosphere wasn't so much.

Yelp
I really want to love this place, and keep returning despite the consistent problems with food. The service is typically top notch and you couldn't ask for a better setting, but the food tends to fall short of promises and the pacing from the kitchen is just off. My husband I go to Redfish frequently - it's a favorite brunch spot. However, food takes forever to come out of the kitchen so it's a commitment. Now, I'm not sure why, but anything to do with bread seems to be a challenge. While I love a reuben sandwich, I stopped ordering it there because it always arrives burnt (not dark brown, black). Now I could've sent it back, but it passed through a few hands along the way and every one of them thought it was okay to serve burnt food, and it took half my life to arrive, so.... The chowder is excellent but accompanied by stale bread. The toast served with the traditional breakfast - burnt. The grilled sandwich? Barely touched the griddle. Another favorite is a good Benedict - but the chef whips the hollandaise all the way to mayo (which is just gross), the poached eggs lean toward undercooked, and the muffin was too stale to cut. Just an eggy mess. On the most recent weekend jaunt, nearly half of the menu was 86'ed. I had to switch my choice and went with the Daymo sandwich, which just tasted like olive oil and onions. I'll keep coming back for the ambiance, but will stick with salad and chowder from hereon. The chef needs to get his end of the house in order.

Yelp
Coming from Los Angeles, we did not expect the quality of food and service we received. This kind of restaurant one would need to book weeks in advance in LA. And the wiev... unbelievable. Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. We're still in awe...
google avatar

Yelp
First - Excellent service. Second - excellent drinks, try the Battle Rock. Third - excellent food. I had the Cioppino and there was more seafood in that bowl than I typically get. Sweet slightly spicy tomato based broth. Delicious.

Yelp
Wow, this restaurant was fantastic on all levels. Firstly, the view is incredible--you're basically sitting on the edge of a landmass that looks out over the entire southern coast of Port Orford with all its rocks, beautiful waves and sunset colors (if you're lucky)! Secondly, the dishes were as good if not better than any five star city restaurant...minus the snobby service often found in cities. Speaking of, we had a waitress who was overly busy but very kind, thorough, knowledgable and prompt. We appreciated that she didn't hover! The Cioppino was otherworldly with green lip mussels, oysters, clams, crab, high quality prawns and delicious white fish. Most Cioppinos have day old seafood inside but each piece of seafood in this heavenly meal was full flavored and incredibly fresh. The marinara wasn't in your face and you could actually taste the seafood. A high likelihood that it all just came off the local docks down the street! Also: delicious clam chowder with lots of tasty fresh clams and very flavorful; large sized yummy Caesar with high quality anchovies; very tasty prawn cocktails that actually had flavor and tenderness to them. So good!! Their wine selection and full bar was very impressive. To top it all off, they have incredible art work on the wall by the (sadly) late wife of the owner, beautiful paintings, amazing iron work bar stools and chairs by the owner. Overall, the interior was creative without being pretentious and the lighting beautifully done. This chef is a keeper!! What a treasure to have him practicing his craft in Port Orford. We appreciated this incredibly creative, talented and beautiful restaurant and would give it more stars if possible. Just go!

Yelp
The food was good but the real seller here is the view!! It was incredible. Our servicer was awesome he went above and beyond. Sit outside if you can!

Yelp
Started off coming in and having excellent service and double screwdriver from the bartender Aimie who also informed us she was named after the great classic from Pure Prairie League song "Amie". Then after we got another drink we got a lovely pulled pork sandwich that wasn't even on the menu, and it was magical! The pulled pork was mouth watering and was gone almost instantly. To make things even more fantastic and fulfilling is we got a hug from Chef Coy which was the perfect dessert. All in all it was an epic memorable experience that I will never in my life forget.

Yelp
Ryan and I stopped at Redfish for dinner on our way from Depoe Bay to Gold Beach, OR. The view/scenery adjacent to this restaurant is really gorgeous. The staff members weren't very attentive to Ryan and I. The service was noticeably lackluster. However, the restaurant was slammed when we went, and it appeared to be understaffed. I tend to be pretty forgiving when a restaurant is that busy. Still, Ryan and I both thought that the service was well below average. I felt a bit annoyed by this. Thankfully, they did (finally) take our to-go order, and (finally) gave it to us. They'd estimated the wait at 30 - 40 minutes for our food, and it was actually about twice that long. However, there are far worse places to wait than overlooking one of many beautiful Oregon Coast beaches. There are a few different options for outdoor seating. The restaurant has a patio out back, and there are also various benches scattered around the grassy area in the front of the restaurant. Ryan and I chose to sit on a bench in the front, since we thought that the view was better there. Ryan and I were unimpressed that we had each been given one spork for our to-go cutlery. A spork?! To accompany $35 - $45 entrees? Welll... okkaayyy. Fortunately, I'd brought some World-Centric brand, plant-based, biodegradable and compostable single-use cutlery with us, which included actual forks, spoons, and knives. So, we used that! The food was great, which is the most important thing. I ordered the pan-seared scallops, and Ryan ordered the fresh pasta with smoked steelhead. We were both very satisfied with our dinners. My scallops were served with white beans (yum!), tiny cuts of real bacon (always a great pairing with seafood, as long as it is done right, and this was), butter, and greens. I thought that the butter was a bit excessive and that therefore the sauce was slightly too rich, but it tasted so good that this was easy to overlook. If great service is super important to you, consider skipping this restaurant. If great food is the most important thing to you, maybe give this place a try. Compared to other restaurants in this general location, the food at this restaurant is definitely above average.

Yelp
Great little spot, clean inside and out. I enjoy the selection for food and drinks. It is a little bit pricier than I would like, but more or less worth it. Sit outside if the weather allows. Service is not too bad either. Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Bathroom 5/5 Cleanliness 4/5 Location 4/5

Yelp
I was shocked by how amazing the food was. I knew it would be good but didn't know it would be great. The service was incredible from the gecko. Tried a ton of things on the menu and enjoyed most of it. The Redfish rangoon and the Veggie Beignets were delightful. The clam chowder was a massive portion and came was a delicious olive loaf to bring it together. I have to mention the views are also to die for. Its on a hill overlooking the beach.

Yelp
Delicious food. We ordered 1) my husband's filet mignon - mwah, perfectly cooked and seasoned, 2) cioppino - my daughter said it was good, and 3) my vegan meal that the chef was able to accommodate for me- glass noodles, Swiss chard, potatoes with a curry sauce, so good!, and 4) younger daughter got their big old salad with the blue cheese crumbles, which she liked but not the blue cheese haha. I had to laugh- there is something about Port Orford where the restaurants are all running out of food/menu items, so the first thing the waiter says to us is not to tell us the specials but what they are out of. Sigh. Such a Port Orford thing. Great restaurant. Pricy. Make reservations. Skip the dessert since we had great service until the 30 minute wait for dessert!

Mark L.

Yelp
A fun spot to drop some wallet weight, but worth every cent. The drinks and food are amazing. And the service has never once given me a thought not to tip. Worth the stop if you're on the 101 coast

Yelp
Can't say enough about this place. Easily the best cioppino I've had in Oregon. I never wanted the bowl to empty! Cocktails were good, the service kind and well oiled, and the view is spectacular. I look forward to coming here again.

Emalee D.

Yelp
The food was much better than I anticipated from a small town like this. Everything was so fresh and tastefully composed. The decorations were so funky and fun and well put together. The server was so kind and told us all about the local scene. If we are ever in Oregon again I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
We obviously aren't up on Port Orford and what a lovely surprise to discover this town and the restaurant Redfish. As two architects, we enjoyed the attention to detail in the design. The metal work around the bar is fabulous. We ate two meals at Redfish and both were excellent, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. I had a salad with seasoned grapes and added grilled shrimp. My spouse had clam chowder and lamb burger. A few days later we had lunch - fish tacos were standout and fall off the bone smoked pork ribs. Friendly service and great view of coast. We will be back. Check out gallery next door!

Yelp
Wonderful service, amazing food and spectacular view! Highly recommended! Enjoyed the clam chowder and lamb burger!

Yelp
The location is incredibly beautiful. We caught a sunny, clear day. They're doing a nice job serving fresh, clean food. It's not the best food I've ever eaten but it's great considering the limitations of this small, rural town. Our server was excellent and attentive.

James D.

Yelp
Great location and view. Lots of art surrounding this place but the vast ocean view steels the show. Inside or outside seating but the wind blows here. It's kinda casual but definitely leans toward fancy. A variety of choices for sure. We had light lunch bites with soup, salad, Mac and cheese, fish tacos and they made a vegetarian sandwich for my wife. Fully stocked bar, wine list and draft beers. This place has it all. Rooms available FYI
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Ambience is a Ten. Restaurant overlooks the beach, ocean and a beautiful rock island. Cioppino was outstanding and literally packed with a ton of seafood as well as a steelhead fillet on top. Oyster shooters are a must ,done very creatively in a spicy pickle brine with fish roe. Short drive from Bandon and well worth it.
google avatar

Taylor R.

Yelp
This place was PHENOMENAL! When we arrived we were instantly greeted by the friendliest staff. We were able to pick sitting inside or outside on the patio, we chose the patio, we also got to choose which seat with the best view, it was literally the best seats in the house! Our waitress was amazing, I didn't catch her name but she was so friendly, has great conversations with us and was very knowledgeable about the wines and and food! My friend ordered the clam chowder and the shrimp risotto. They were both amazing! The clam chowder was the best I'd ever had and the bread served with it was yummy! I had the filet mignon with mashed sweet potatoes and asparagus and omg it was so delicious. Perfectly Cooked, just enough seasoning, and so tender. It was an amazing cut of meat cooked to the perfect medium rare. I would highly recommend going and would love to go over and over again!
google avatar

Mel H.

Yelp
What a great view! And lunch was delicious. I had the clam chowder which I definitely order again. My friends had the salmon hash, Sort of a fish Eggs Benedict, which came with a fantastic hollandaise sauce. The wait staff was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, good service, great ambience. It's a gem along this stretch of coast. I stop by often anytime I'm south of Bandon.
google avatar

Yelp
In response to the owner who said all coastal restaurants fight beach flies... The flies I experienced were not beach flies. This place is way above the beach. The flies I experienced were black flies. I appreciate the response, but beach flies is an excuse that doesn't apply. Rejudge because this was brought up from years ago. I'm glad they are paying attention now.

Yelp
We always look forward to a nice meal at Red Fish every time we visit Port Orford. Everything we've ordered has been incredible, lots of gluten free options (the clam chowder is amazing!), and the view is spectacular!

Yelp
Driving down the coast of Oregon, we found this amazing restaurant. If you are by Port Orford, definitely worth stopping at the RedFish. The food is fantastic, the view is SPECTACULAR and the service is awesome, what more could you ask for! We had the special crab cake appetizer! Wow, that was Yummy! I had the Seafood Cioppino. It came with Shrimp, Clams, Oysters and Fish. My hubby had the Sous Vide Frenched Pork Chop. Both delicious! For drinks, I recommend the House Lavender infused with Bombay Gin paired with lemonade. Very Refreshing! Definitely recommend this place and hope to visit again someday.

Yelp
Fresh tasty food, good wine list, fab ocean view, super attentive wait staff. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was fine. But whole civilizations rose and fell from the time when the order was put in by the server and the time it was served to the table. Plus there was a fly problem, not due to cleanliness, but because the door to the patio stay open for so long they keep entering so even though you eat inside, you keep having to brush them away. Beautiful view though. That'll probably be the main reason for going there.

Mark R.

Yelp
Wonderful service excellent food. Give it a try. Great view of the ocean. Outdoor seating available.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The food, the view and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed lamb, cioppino, drinks and the tiramisu- all great. Highly recommended.

Yelp
My wife and I tend to camp out at Red Fish when in the Port Orford area. If we are staying in Bandon, we will often make the 30 minute trip. The place is a rare blend of locals hang out and gourmet experience. We enjoy the down to earth service, wonderful drinks, top notch entrees and deserts...the panna cotta is fantastic. And of course, the view is unbeatable. Try to go when the gallery is open next door.

Yelp
Stopped in here on our trip on Hwy 101 along the Oregon Coast. When we arrived, the waiter looked annoyed because we were there and asked if we had a reservation. We told him no, however he found a table for us. The restaurant was not busy and they had open tables. It is very casual and the views are beautiful. Breathtaking actually. They have an outdoor seating area also, however it was too chilly outside this night. But it is beautiful out there also. The restaurant itself, is pretty nice and relaxing. The waiter was annoyed the entire time while talking with us. He wanted to be friendly, but he was more irritated with all his customers. He just appeared to be upset because he had to wait on people. I ordered the Redfish over quinoa and my friend had Seafood in a sauce. I can't remember the name. When the Redfish came out, it looked like a skinny piece of fish and it was so rubbery. The sauce over it was almost bitter to the taste. It was not a good combination. I just did not enjoy it at all and did not eat it. My friend tried my fish and he did not mind it too much. The Seafood sauce had too much curry in it and the menu did not mention curry. If you know about curry, it is a taste you have to like. This was not eaten either. The wine selection is very good and my friend had a half bottle of one he really enjoyed. (Picture is attached). I personally do not recommend the restaurant with the food not being that good and the service not being good. The view can be accomplished by just parking and going to the ocean. Looking off the rocks. Maybe there is a better meal choice. Not sure.....

Yelp
Great atmosphere friendly service and amazing food! Whether it's brunch lunch or dinner redfish has something for everyone!

Yelp
The atmosphere and service was spectacular. As a vegan, I arrived ready to eat a salad but there was a section on the menu that said to ask about vegan and/or gf options. So, I did. The chef gave me two custom vegan options to choose from. Not only was this an incredibly kind and accommodating thing to do, the vegan option was delicious. And the staff didn't make me feel weird about asking for a vegan option (which I really appreciated). The meal they made for me was glass noodles, vegetables, and a delicious sauce. I left with leftovers that I'm excited to eat tomorrow :)

Yelp
Good service, good food, good grief, I really like it. And a lovely location in Port Orford. I now always looking forward to going to the Coast so we can have dinner at Redfish. Thank you to the entire staff. Judith Hirsch

Yelp
Our group of 5 RVs and 25 people stumbled upon this restaurant during our coastal trip, and we were pleasantly surprised. Despite our large group, the host and waiters were friendly and accommodating, a refreshing change from past experiences. The food was delicious, with perfect fish tacos and delightful clam chowder. The breathtaking views added to the overall experience. We highly recommend this restaurant for its outstanding service, delicious cuisine, and stunning location.
