The Best Boba Shops In LA & The SGV

"Fresh fruit, tea brewed before your eyes, unique flavors, and a friendly staff - these are a few of the reasons why Redstraw Tea Bar in Westfield Century City is one of the best boba shops in LA. The menu is broken down into three sections: milk tea, specialty tea, and custom tea. I personally like ordering from the custom tea section, which allows you to choose your tea leaves and is then brewed on the spot. Their Blue Lady is a particularly lovely Ceylon tea with bright notes of grapefruit and a mellow aftertaste of blue mallow flowers." - audrey fong

I stumbled upon redstraw during my visit at Century City mall last Sunday afternoon (7/28). The ambiance is very bougie because of the drink prices and white color scheme. Their drink selections sounded promising but their milk teas and strawberry matcha latte without dairy alternatives is a dealbreaker. It's 2024, and many other boba shops and cafes are offering dairy alternatives (soy or almond milk) on their lattes and milk teas. I wanted to try Redstraw's Strawberry Matcha latte but it is only offered in Whole Milk. Please be considerate of any customers who are lactose intolerant and add dairy alternatives to your milk teas and matchas. For the time being, I ordered redstraw's Japanese Sakura Cherry with honey boba. I noticed that the staff seeps their teas naturally for each order. The staff on duty told me it would take at least 5-7 minutes before the order was ready. I waited for less than 5 minutes and it was ready. In terms of presentation, the drink lacked any distinction of sakura cherries on the drink itself. While the green tea tasted naturally, unfortunately I was not fond of the cherry flavor. My Sakura Cherry drink tasted like cough syrup and I do not taste any authentic sakura flavor. I'm sorry Redstraw, this is the last straw of me trying your boba place. What a disaster and disappointment. Everyone else is better off trying Wushiland or another authentic boba place in Sawtelle or Westwood.

Google
This tea shop has become a recent go-to for me, primarily for its consistently high-quality tea offerings. Specifically, I've indulged in their rose buds tea twice now, and I must say, its fragrance is truly delightful. What sets this place apart is their option for a 25% sugar level, which allows the natural essence of the rose buds to shine through without overpowering sweetness. Even without any added sugar, the rose buds still retain their great flavor profile. While I've explored other caffeine-free floral teas, none have quite captured my preference like the rose buds here. There's a certain allure to its aroma and taste that keeps drawing me back. It's a simple yet satisfying choice that has consistently hit the spot whenever I visit this tea shop. Overall, it's been a pleasant experience, and I find myself inclined to return for another cup of their fragrant rose buds tea.

Google
red chai tea takes 5-7 minutes to brew, and given the line i opted for a brown sugar milk tea instead. there was a longish line but it moves fast. you can customize your sweetness level (25%, 50%, etc), which i liked. their classic brown sugar milk tea is very sweet, so i would get maybe 25% next time around.

I enjoy drinking Redstraw Grapefruit Punch which is good and relaxing. They have many different kinds of flavors which is good. I also enjoy the Mango Mojito which is a Special Drink that cannot be found on their Website. They have a Specialty Tea which I get the Grapefruit Punch. Milk Tea which you already know what that is. They also have a Custom Tea which is you make your own Tea Drink. You can also get Additional Toppings that cost $0.50 which I added for my Grapefruit Punch. So this is one of my favorite places to get a nice cold drink.

Google
I think this place is famous. But when I was there it's big holiday the staff were already exhausted. She tossed change with wet gloves. Not that good feeling. I'm sorry to put this kind of review. Should be careful as food handler.

Google
If you are in search of a really good tea bar, then Redstraw is a place you must try. They offer an array of good-quality tea. You can also add different add ons including boba, agar boba, and more. This Redstraw is located on the second floor inside the Westfield Century City Mall. It's small but it packs a bunch of different tea options to fulfill your tea cravings. My first time here, I went with a Thai Iced Tea with boba. The customer service was over the top great. My Thai Tea was just ok. Nothing to wow about. However, my second visit was spectacular! I went with coworkers who suggested I go with the rose tea with agar boba. First of all, I had never even heard of agar boba until they were explaining it to me. They are real boba connoisseurs. So I went with a rose tea with agar boba. Let me tell you, it was mind-blowing! It was so unexpectedly delicious. I can't even explain it. After my experience here, I now have to try and get agar boba when I need a boba drink. So yummy!

Google
Had the Arnold Palmer with aloe Vera. The drink is pretty good. I love that they offer the Aloe option, which was fresh and juicy with the right amount of tartness. If you’ve never had it before, ask for a sample of this topping. This is a really refreshing drink for a hot day.

Google
Online orders apparently just get ignored. So don't order if you're on your lunch break. This is the 3rd time. I've been standing here 20 minutes and haven't been acknowledged even.

Yelp
one of my fav tea shops in the area! I haven't been in years, but remembered this place and had to go back! my go-to is the rose garden drink and it tastes just as I remember it - a flavorful but subtle rosy flavor with a hint of lychee in jasmine green tea. I feel like the tea here is always high quality which makes it stand out to me the shop is small and doesnt have seating inside - only a counter to order from. there is a large bench outside of the storefront but since it's in a mall, I usually walk around w my drink service was quick and efficient, which is nice! I'm surprised this place isn't as crowded/popular, but I'm glad I don't have to wait!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid fruit teas! Service could be slow or fast, depending on staff available. Small shop with no seats inside, only a bench right outside. I love mine grapefruit with less sugar. You can preorder ahead for pick up. Parking tip! If you want to park near Redstraw, enter on the side of Constellation Blvd, near Ave of the Stars, and once you enter make a Right and go all the way towards the end and make a Left and park near the elevators/escalators.

Yelp
Every time I go to the century city mall I always go to red straw. I'm a fruit tea boba girl and they always brew their tea fresh and it's very aromatic. Not too sweet (best compliment) and service is pretty quick. While there's no seating in the store itself, there are many seating options throughout the mall. This specific day that I went I also got a bread from 85 degrees bakery. Perfect snack combo!

Yelp
This place has a minimalistic aesthetic and the employee was friendly. Drinks were quick because I saw the green juice (cucumber juice), tea was all brewed and ready. Employee poured it from a big jug. I also saw some syrups in the back but my drink didn't seem to need that. Thankfully! I got a tea with jasmine flower and cucumber juice. It was refreshing but I paid for aloe as a topping. It didn't come with it! It's a decent option but wouldn't be my first choice.

Yelp
Been coming here pretty consistently now for about 5 months when I want my boba fix. My first impression of the place wasn't that great considering how SMALL the space is. I'm not exaggerating when you have to squeeze next to people to get through and the lines usually go out the door and can feel claustrophobic. The staff has always been pretty friendly and accommodating considering how overwhelmed I'm sure they get. I almost exclusively get the Passion Fruit Jasmine with honey boba. It's a hit or miss in terms of flavor cause sometimes it's great and other times it's totally lacking flavor. I think the portions are pretty good for what they charge, my bigger issue is just that it can be a real pain in the butt to go with how small the space is and how crowded it gets. I'll keep coming here, just wish the atmosphere was a bit better :)

Yelp
I didnt have high hopes for this place but after shopping at Popmart I noticed a line formed and so I wanted to give it a try. There were two baristas working and they seemed pretty swamped but still super friendly and answered all my questions as a first timer. I asked for the strongest milk tea and was recommended the Redstraw milk tea which is just a black tea with milk and boba. I got this at quarter sweet and asked for easy milk which they complied with. Its not the best boba place Ive ever had but I think its still good in its own way given the location as well. The boba wasnt too bad! It was a little bit on the harder side but I kind of enjoyed it that way at that time so it was okay! Not too sweet at all and you could definitely taste the tea. Overall they seem really accommodating and nothing is overly sugary so I would come here again to try other things if I am in the area!

Yelp
Redstraw Tea Bar has a nice, modern interior that's clean and welcoming--a great spot to hang out or grab a drink. The service, however, was just okay. The staff got the job done, but nothing about the interaction stood out as particularly helpful or engaging. I ordered a honey oolong milk tea with boba and went with the default sweetness level of 75%. When I asked for more details about how much honey that actually meant, the only response I got was "normal is 75%," which wasn't very helpful. If they'd provided specifics--like an ounce measurement--I could have adjusted the sweetness better. My drink ended up being a bit too sweet for my taste, but overall, the flavor was good. I might come back to try a different drink, but I'm more likely to explore what other options the mall has to offer first. Redstraw is solid, but it didn't really wow me.

Yelp
My friend and I looked at the Redstraw menu prior to dining at Din Tai Fung, and decided we'd be stopping in for a tea afterwards. Disclaimer, I'm not someone that drinks tea often, but I thought the Rose Garden was delicious! It was a perfect combination of rose and lychee, and just the right amount of sweetness. My friend ordered the Rose Buds hot and added boba. It was her first time drinking a hot beverage with boba, but she thought it was great! I would absolutely come back!

Yelp
The service was pretty good. I ordered the iced Peach Bellini tea, And I loved how it tasted. The ambiance was chill, a type of atmosphere that wouldn't make you feel uncomfortable.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! I stumbled across this place and I'm so glad I did! I ordered the Mango Mojito and it's so refreshing! The service was quick! It's on the second floor, adjacent to Ding Tai Fung. I'll be back to try more drinks soon! :)

Yelp
I got the peach bellini tea which is a black tea with mango and lychee. I was a little concerned when I first got the drink because the color did not match the peach bellini picture on the display. I was expecting a more orange ish color as opposed to brown. Nonetheless, the drink was tasty and really refreshing. Lychee and mango are two of my favorite flavors and I never see both flavors combined so I was very happy that this place combined my two favorites :)

Yelp
The perfect sweet treat! I have never heard of this place prior, but stumbled upon it after searching up alternatives to wushiland in the mall. I loved the variety of tea options this spot offers and it was so hard to choose, but I ended up getting the iced vanilla peach rooibos with boba. I have to say the lady working was a bit unpleasant, she did not smile at all and seemed like she actually hated working there lol especially after I said that I was okay waiting an extra 5 minutes for my tea to be brewed. Anywho, I got it with 25% sweetness and the drink itself had very subtle peach and vanilla notes to it. I'd likely come here again just because a lot of their other drink options sounded really good.
google avatar

Lee L.

Yelp
The red straw milk tea was good! I got mine at 25% percent sugar, (which I think is the perfect amount) and this location only has one size of the cup.
google avatar

Tess l.

Yelp
It's ok. We had the Thai tea with foam and returned it, then got regular Thai tea and it didn't have flavor, it tasted like when you go to a healthy organic spot and it's only ok, because it's healthy, but I don't think this place is, so ...... I can try the milk tea maybe and matcha and update later. I give it 3 stars for the location and the cleanliness and the service
google avatar

Yelp
Little boba shop nestled inside Century City. Love that they do nondairy milk substitutions. I got my BMB (basically brown sugar boba) with almond milk which gave it a really interesting nutty taste. Got less sugar too and it was a good level of sweetness! The tea/milk tasted high quality and the tapioca was nicely chewy. Kinda expensive for boba (around $7 for a drink) but it's California. They have a lot of unique menu options aside from the typical boba flavors using all the trendy things like butterfly pea and a celery/kale drink which is interesting. The wait wasn't too long to order but it did take a long time to get my drink.

Yelp
After doing some shopping, we happened to find Redstraw and felt like some boba. It's a small storefront but their flavors are different than other boba places. Their staff were nice. Since it's a small storefront, there isn't any space to seat inside but there is a bench outside to sit. Since the Westfield Century mall is an open air mall concept, there's a lot of seating in the mall. We tried their RedStraw Milk Tea with honey boba, Japanese Cherry Sakura, and Passionfruit mango tea with lychee jelly. The RedStraw Milk tea was very good. Their blend with black tea was different and it was very well balanced. The Japanese Cherry Sakura was very good but it was a little too sweet. But after, my ice melted and it got watered down, it was just right for me. They steeped the tea fresh and I added soy milk. I got it 75% sweet and it was still a little too sweet for me. So next time, I would get it 50% sweet. Passionfruit Mango tea was good and very refreshing. They recommend 75% sweet which we got but it was still a little too sweet for us.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Got the organic rooibos with 25% sugar with aloe Vera, was nice and can definitely taste the tea but also the sugar, wish I could have gotten 15% sugar instead but I don't think they do that, will definitely ask next time! The aloe Vera was good!
google avatar

Natalie Y.

Yelp
It's decent strong brewed tea with intense tea flavor. More focused on fruit tea than milk teas in my opinion. Decent price point but just average compared to competitors in the area.
google avatar

Shahana O.

Yelp
Redstraw is the only place I go to get drinks when I'm at century city. Their redstraw milk tea and thai tea are super consistent and delicious. The fruit teas are also really good. The employees say that they only use natural ingredients and everything is fresh which is a huge plus for me. The menu also emphasizes this. I recommend 75% sugar because 100% (normal) is really sweet. The boba is a hit or miss. Sometimes it's hard and sometimes it's soft. Follow @shahana.eats for more recs :)

Yelp
Dropping my rating because while the drinks are wonderfully refreshing on any given day, the customer service is terrible. The people working here range from snobbish to outright rude. On one visit awhile ago, my tea was too sweet and when I asked for a remake I received a serving of nastiness to go along with it from the young Asian female on shift. It bothered me enough that I decided to address the situation with a manager a few days later and with the female who made my drink. With several missed opportunities on customers service, I decided on a recent visit not to tip them. I guess not tipping for continued rudeness warranted my straw being tossed on the table and a back turn to my "thank you". I only came here that day because Boulon coffee was already closed for the day. Love the drinks, but not enough to support poor service. Moving on.

Jennifer Q.

Yelp
I regret trying this place out and should have went to Wushiland instead for actual boba drinks in this mall. I ordered a tea drink and their Red Straw Milk Tea and both of them did not have any flavor/taste whatsoever. Unfortunately, the drinks were so bland :/ Customer service was alright it could have been better. They weren't giving off good customer service vibes and no smile to their faces :( The shop is really small you just have to squeeze your way out of the people in line and the door

Yelp
Redstraw locates within the Westfield Century City Mall (second floor, right across Din Tai Fung and Razer). It has a minimalistic modern look which I absolutely love. There are variety of options available - we ordered the honey oolong milk tea with bubbles. The bubbles are cooked well here, and if you like your milk tea with stronger tea flavor, this is it for you. The staffs are friendly here despite how busy they are - if you happen to crave boba while you are around the area, definitely give Redstraw a try!

Yelp
Good service super cute interior. It is definitely on the pricier side, but the drink tasted very good. I'd definitely come again if I was in the area. There is a good selection of drinks whether you want milk tea or fruit tea. There are also options with no caffeine if that's what you're looking for. I'm curious to try the boba next time!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the worst strawberry matcha's ever. $11 for a large with a milk swap. The girls were all slow and had weird attitudes. Long line for literally no reason. Prep area was disgusting. Girls were working the cash register then turning around to make drinks without washing their hands. Do not waste your money. Starbucks makes a better matcha, and is probably cleaner.
google avatar

Joey C.

Yelp
This is a very cute shop in a very busy mall! Parking was easy and it's free for the first hour. I got the Red Straw Milk Tea with Crystal Boba and it was so good! It reminded me of traditional Hong Kong Milk Tea, which I love! I got a 100% sweet and it wasn't overbearing. It was the right amount. Only thing I would say is that it's a little pricey, but it is located in Culver City after all.
google avatar

Elton L.

Yelp
Great place to get some unique flavored milk teas. Got the honey oolong milk tea - nice balanced flavors. Love the Westfield Culver City mail - Sunny outdoor mall - perfect to sip a cold milk tea. Service was efficient and line moves quickly.

Jasmine L.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, my friend recommended and the boba was firm chewy which I liked! The tea flavor of the red straw milk tea was good too but THERE WAS A BUG IN OUR DRINK . I felt very disgusted and disappointed with this experience.

Maruko X.

Yelp
Ambiance: small tea shop on the second floor in the mall, to go only Service: very fast and could accommodate certain requests though not fully for sugar and ice Drink: special drink menu and standard teas French Daisy - *** Jasmine green tea with fresh lemon enhanced with striking natural colors from butterfly pea, good looking drink but tasted like tap water Redstraw Milk Tea - *** Special blend black tea with organic milk, surcharge for adding boba, average taste Price: overpriced for its ordinary quality, about $7 per drink
google avatar

Jessie Z.

Yelp
I would describe the milk tea composition here as mostly tea with a splash of milk. The menu outside is more accurate than the menu inside, which can be quite confusing. Would definitely recommend getting light ice, as there is still a considerable amount of ice relative to cup size. Honey oolong milk tea (2/5): Roasted flavor is subtle but noticeable, yet over-steeped, while being still watery tasting. You can taste the tannins in the aftertaste - the kind that makes you feel thirsty. The ratio of milk to tea feels off, where it tastes more watery than milky or creamy. I got 25% sugar, but maybe getting a higher sugar level would balance out the astringency. Peach Bellini (4/5): Sweet and refreshing! Good for a hot day. Red straw milk tea (5/5): If you're looking for strong tea flavor, this is it. Quite strong without being over-steeped.

Lindy L.

Yelp
The service was bad. She made my order wrong and I have her to fix it and all she did was pour it to another cup. I felt like I was being racist. When I ask for water they charge for $2. Overall, it's my first time trying and I don't like the vibe they service me.
google avatar

Yelp
We love this boba shop. Today it failed hard. I ordered strawberry Matcha Latte and BMB. Strawberry Matcha Latte was not as it is in the picture b/c they mixed milk and Matcha. Thats okay.. its just a look. BMB!!!!! I asked for 75% sweet. I don't know what she did wrong but she got new cup put more brown sugar syrup then cut and open the drink she already made to pour into new cup. They never explained. We walked to the car and my kid complained after first sip. BMB is too sweet. I tried and it is so sweet it even hurting my tongue. It's not my first time ordering BMB at redstraw. We go there regularly. Please train your employees to make it correctly. I just came home and throw away the drink... ordered my drinks on 11/26 at 5:49pm

Yelp
This store is located close to Din Tai Fung and offers boba with customization. It is focused more on their freshly brewed teas and is less sweet than the Korean or Taiwanese boba houses. They generally prepare their drinks at 75% sweetness. Their milk is intended to complement the tea and overpower it. Expect to get a lot of tea and a jolt of caffeine from their drinks. You can get add boba as part of your customization.

Azzie D.

Yelp
I went here today and was delighted. Friendly service, delicious beverage. I couldn't decide between the mango mojito or peach bellini, but went with the mango mojito based on the barista's recommendation (plus lychee jelly). SO good. It had an aromatic flavor (because of the jasmine tea) which I loved. Honestly I just went in looking for a refreshing tasty beverage and that's what I got and it made my day a little happier. I'll be back, loved the drink I got but look forward to trying more.

Yelp
I will make it a goal to get some Redstraw every time I come to Century City Mall. The interior decor and vibe is cute and terrific. It's a bit hidden inside the mall. Service is stellar- the staff is very friendly and accommodating with all orders. I'm always pleased at the service. The mango green tea was unique and tasty. You can customize everything. What I love the most is that the cups are huge here! If you're in the mood for some boba, give this place a try!

Yelp
Loved it!!! Will go ahead when I am back in that neck of the woods. Also the area is really nice including the interior of the shop.

Yelp
After finishing at DTF I decided to keep the Asian themed eating going and headed over to Redstraw for a digestif. I appreciate that there's a menu of teas available and right away their Specialty Teas with a lot of fruit already had my attention. I went with their Strawberry Jasmine and added their honey boba, 25% sweetness. The space is small and there was a herd of mall kids that were directly in front of me so it felt a little cramped as everyone was waiting for their drinks to come up. The drink balanced with the right amount of sweetness and the boba was on the softer side of chewy. I will say that I think it went by too fast-I made the mistake of not asking for a lower ice level, but I also think the strawberries soaked up so much of the tea that it felt like I had maybe a handful of sips before I was digging through the ice with my straw to get some berries.
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
I've visited the red straw location in Irvine and didn't have anything to write home about. At century city there's wushiland and din tai fung who have pretty good boba. I wanted to give Red straw another chance which was a waste of money IMO. I got the honey oolong sea salt foam tea with boba and when the barista handed it to me there was barely any foam. Basically the amount you'd get if something was stuck to the lid, I asked her if they could add more foam since there's close to none and she just said "I put like 3 scoops in there sorry" and that was it. Even Starbucks remakes drinks when u ask nicely so this was a poor experience. Wish I could've returned it and go to Din tai fung instead.

Yelp
Small storefront with a good selection of drinks. You can either wait in the long line, or order by mobile order (QR code on the menu outside). The drinks take a while to come out, but it's expected with the number of orders they receive. The mango mojito was delicious but the Japanese cherry blossom drink was a bit water down. After ordering, remember to wait outside of the store for your number to be called.

Yelp
I was at the mall and noticed this boba place. You can order online or at the location. There isn't a place to sit inside but there space outside if you decide to sit outside. I LOVED that I was able to select the amount of sweetness to be added to my drink. I had a hard time deciding. The people behind the counter answered all my questions and I narrowed my drink down to a Peach Vanilla boba. I selected 25% sweetness. It was perfect. The drink was a little over $6. They told me my seal wasn't tight so she added another seal as an extra precaution. I will be back the next time I'm here

Yelp
We wanted Wushiland but it was closing so we walked over to Red Straw. Lesson learned. Being desperate is never a good thing. ESPECIALLY when it comes to boba drinks! 1) Unfriendly, unwelcoming vibe but we didn't care. 2) We always order our teas "no sugar, less ice" to fully appreciate the flavor of good tea. Both Red Straw Jasmine Milk and Matcha Milk teas were way underwhelming. We both took our first sips and both shook our heads. Watered-down, bland, flavorless. Star off. 3) As boba lovers, you can serve us boba on ice and we'll be happy, as long as your boba is good. Boba at Red Straw belongs at bottom 3 on our long list of boba places in LA and OC. Their boba was unpleasantly chewy hard, flavoless (perhaps to match their teas), and was a waste of our time and money. Two stars off. Thank goodness they were cheap on the boba so less to endure. Overall for the price and quality, this place is a rip-off.

Nook W.

Yelp
I was there today after lunch with my husband got him a rose garden and myself the BMB. I was enjoying the drink and almost finish it. My last sip I was chewing on boba and I heard the crips sounds in my mouth and thought it's a tea leaf but once I split it out OMG it was a huge dead fry. I immediately throw up. Please be careful when you enjoy boba from this place!

Yelp
Was craving a refreshing drink while shopping on this beautiful day so decided to give Redstraw a shot! The French Daisy was good (and aesthetically pleasing). Would ask for 50% or 75% sweetness level next time probably.

Yelp
Been here a couple times in the past few years. The honey oolong milk tea was not bad here! The boba here are chewy and are cooked well. The tea flavor in my opinion could've been a bit stronger though. Service here is great and they're really nice and patient. It's located right across from din tai fung so it was a great spot to come to after lunch and solid boba to sip on while shopping.

Yelp
Located in the top floor near din tai fung in century city mall. I love when boba tea is actually brewed tea!!! You can change the level of sweetness (i usually get 50% and add aloe Vera and lychee jelly to make up for the sweetness) I tried something new today and got the blood orange drink and it was an amazing after-meal drink! Workers there are super friendly and sweet! I always stop by when I'm shopping in the area!

Yelp
The menu of unique drinks is what sets Redstraw apart from Wushiland for me. You can create your own custom drinks, but they also offer interesting drinks like the New Zealand Sunny Slopes, Garden Treat, Blue Lady, Queen Victoria, Peach Mandarin, and Japanese Cherry Sakura. Their toppings are limited to honey boba, aloe vera, lychee jelly, and agar boba. Wushiland doesn't have agar boba and aloe vera, which are my favorite toppings, especially since they're a bit healthier than other options. The drinks here aren't overly sweet, so you can get 50-100% sweetness here without feeling like you're getting diabetes!

Yelp
Cool spot in the mall - super popular, we waited a bit in line. They have interesting flavors. It's about $6 a drink, and I got the Redstraw Milk Tea with Boba (their signature). It had a true tea flavor, and the 25% sugar level is truly not super sweet. My friend got the Blood Orange, and it was refreshing. A nice treat!

Yelp
My favorite boba spot in the area! (ノ)ノ If you haven't stopped by yet I would totally recommend you try out this place! I love their unique selection of teas. I always get either the mango mojito, rose garden, or watermelon mojito. The staff is always so sweet and I like the aesthetic of the store. It's a very small shop but the ambience is very welcoming and neat. (⁎⁎)
