Non-Profit Coffee Shop Refuge Coffee Closes in Sweet Auburn Near Downtown Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

"The Sweet Auburn location of Refuge Coffee closes Friday, September 23, after nearly three years in the historic Atlanta Daily World building on Auburn Avenue. The decision to close was partially due to the financial fallout from the pandemic. This location opened just one month prior to the start of the pandemic, which shut down businesses, hotels, and Georgia State University nearby in downtown Atlanta for months. Despite the challenges, Refuge continued to pay its employees and barista trainees. The nonprofit coffee shop provides support, job training, and job opportunities for Atlanta’s refugee community, a mission that began at its original location in Clarkston. However, it continues to partner as the coffee provider for co-working and events space Constellations in Sweet Auburn. Refuge Coffee also includes a location in Midtown at Woodruff Arts Center. A third location opens later this year in downtown Norcross." - Beth McKibben

Refuge Coffee is a nice coffee shop near downtown. There was plenty of street parking which you have to pay for. The shop was clean and neat. The workers weren't very friendly but they did wait on us quickly. I got a oat milk latte and my friend got brewed coffee. She said that the coffee was a little sour. My latte was fine. There is plenty of seating, games to play, wifi, and a bathroom. They also have ceramic mugs, you just have to ask for them. I prefer ceramic mugs because it produces no waste unlike paper cups. They had a few pastry but we passed on trying those.

Second site of Refuge Coffee, founded in Clarkston, Ga., with the desire to provide living wages and job training to the city's community of new Americans (resettled refugees). Fun staff. Leon, their hospitality manager, is sure to greet you upon entering. Great location walking distance from historic downtown and Georgia State. Parking can be a challenge with street parking. The new space has ample natural light with a mix of exposed concrete and modern coffee bar. It is truly a space of welcome for staff and customers alike.

4.0 | Cute coffee shop near GA State. I got a small Caramel Macchiato ($4.5, tasted more like a latte which I still liked) + also got a student discount! A good drink, but nothing special. There are few seating areas, but it wasn’t busy. There’s plenty of $ street parking nearby.

Love their business concept on supporting refugees. Their pumpkin spice Latte was so comforting on a rainy cold day! Sweet ambience.

This place is really nice. It's an awesome place to study, do work, or just hang out with some friends. The whole environment is really warm and welcoming, and the workers are extremely friendly. I love how the coffee shop partners with local non-profit organization and works to support homeless people in Atlanta. This feels like somewhat of a small-town coffee shop in the middle of downtown, and it's really cute.

The service was wonderful. The nice lady made me the best latte I've had in a long time! It wasn't too sweet and it was creamy and had the right amount of foam at the top. You should be able to find parking on the street because there is not a lot of people out during the pandemic. If you are in walking distance from them, it is definitely one of the tastiest coffee shops in the area.

My coworker and I ordered lavender lattes with almond milk for delivery at our job- and we LOVED them! Then I started reading the label and was really moved by the work the business is doing well. High quality coffee with a mission? Take my money! Highly recommend this place!
