I had a very disappointing experience with this hotel regarding a promised refund.
I booked this hotel through Booking.com and paid the full amount at the time of booking. Unfortunately, the train to the destination was cancelled due to severe weather conditions.
The hotel contacted me directly and informed me about the situation. They gave me two options: either change the dates of my stay or cancel the reservation for a refund. I chose to cancel and receive the refund.
Because this was only one day before the check-in date, the cancellation option on Booking.com showed that the reservation would be fully charged. Before cancelling, I asked the hotel about this. The hotel told me to proceed with the cancellation anyway and assured me that they would approve the cancellation and arrange the refund afterwards. I followed their instructions immediately.
After cancelling, I followed up about the refund. At first, the hotel told me that the refund would be processed within the same week. However, after two weeks passed, I contacted them again and was suddenly told to follow up with Booking.com instead, as the hotel claimed they were no longer involved.
When I contacted Booking.com, they explained that they require written confirmation from the property before they can process the refund. Booking.com also advised me to contact the hotel again, which I did.
At this point, I honestly do not understand why I have to keep chasing this issue back and forth. I have already paid in full and followed exactly what the hotel instructed me to do. Yet I am the one having to repeatedly contact both the hotel and Booking.com just to resolve a refund that was promised.
It has now been three weeks, and recently the hotel has barely responded to my messages at all. The whole experience feels very frustrating and unprofessional. Guests should not be left in this situation after simply following the hotel’s instructions.
Unexpected situations like severe weather can happen, and I completely understand that. However, the lack of responsibility, communication, and follow-through from the hotel is extremely disappointing.
I hope the hotel will take responsibility and resolve this matter properly.
