Yelp
Mostly very good and deserving of a four start rating. The theater complex is clean. The bathrooms are clean. Each individual theater within has comfortable, reclining seats which are in great shape and work properly. You choose your seats when you purchase your tickets, so you do not get stuck buying admission and not having anyplace where you would like to be seated.
My complaints are not the type of thing that would keep me from going to this theater, but there are some changes which could be helpful.
First, the peripheral lighting (white bulbs to show you where to rows are and perhaps for an emergency exit function) are very bright and some are aimed toward eye level for seated patrons. This type of light draws my attention away from the screen. Someone needs to sit in every single seat to figure out which lights are too bright and which need to be aimed properly, then correct this.
Second, the concession prices are out of hand. The smallest popcorn is now $7.49. Everything else is priced accordingly.
Third, they need to hire more people to sell tickets. It has been a long time since I have seen more than one person selling working at the box office. As each transaction has the potential to take a long time, especially when a group is picking seats, it is common to get stuck on line for a while.
Fourth, they should either hire more ushers or send ushers through the theaters more regularly. Not all patrons are considerate of others, but it becomes very difficult to police your neighbors if they brought in take out food with a strong smell or spend half the movie texting, while intermittently lighting up your row.
Fifth, everyone should be aware that the start time of each movie is now way, way later than what is posted. Figure ten minutes of paid advertising for cell phones, soda and the like, then fifteen to thirty minutes of movie previews. Hey, I like movie previews, but it is useful to know when a movie will end if making plans afterward -- whether for a dinner reservation or to meet your friends or to get home to a babysitter -- so an additional half an hour can make a difference.
Of course, any business can use to make some improvements. They get the most important things right. Better than most other movie theaters in New York City.
