Hello Kitty Cafe Truck Bringing Cuteness to Carlsbad and Chula Vista | Eater San Diego

"Cute and colorful, the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will roll back into town this Saturday, January 12, parked from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. outside The Shoppes at Carlsbad near the Regal Cinemas and Luna Gril. Fans should plan to line up early for first dibs on exclusive treats and limited-edition collectibles, which range from a giant Hello Kitty chef and a lunchbox filled with confetti popcorn to a petit fours box set and a five-piece macaron box set; non-edible goodies include a Hello Kitty plush toy, thermal bottles, keychains, a bow headband, and Hello Kitty Cafe t-shirts for kids and adults. After several well-attended truck stops at Fashion Valley last year the brand even opened a pop-up container cafe in the mall, so this roving tour could be a test for a more permanent presence; the truck’s tour continues in the San Diego area, with a scheduled stop on February 2 in Chula Vista at Otay Ranch Town Center." - Candice Woo

I recently had such a great experience at the Carlsbad Regal that I just have to share how happy I am as a customer. The theater is always clean, comfortable, and welcoming, but what really stood out to me was the amazing customer service. Rachel, in particular, went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth and enjoyable. She was friendly, professional, and genuinely cared about making my visit special. It’s not every day that you come across someone who makes you feel valued and appreciated as a guest, but Rachel definitely did that. Because of her, I left not only loving the movie but also feeling really positive about the whole experience. Regal Carlsbad has earned my loyalty, and Rachel is a big reason why!

Went to see Predator: Badlands today. A little disappointed. They were still playing commercials/advertisements 10 minutes past when the movie was suppose to start. After that they started playing other movie trailers. 45 minutes past the start time the movie started. 10 minutes after the start of the movie the theater lights are still on. Someone had to go and ask to have the theater lights turn off. So, Regal Carlsbad theater moto is: We'll start the movie when we feel like it. And We'll shut off the theater lights for the movie if you ask us, nicely.

Google
Waited 20 minutes for 3 chicken tenders. (6:43 to 4:03) They completely forgot my order. I had to ask them to check 15m in. Didn't even give me a receipt, just an order number. It wasn't even busy. When I got them, they weren't fully cooked. 1 was even still cold. To so l which I say, thanks for the attempted food poisoning. Coming from someone who's especially susceptible to stomach illnesses. I guess we'll see what happens. Do not order food from them unless you want to miss your movie. That really ruined my mood. Missed 15 minutes of Avatar. And my food was cold, possibly raw.

What ah morning. Due to the rain and my 7yr old we were already running a lil behind. After meeting RUBY at the concession everything got better. Not only did she help me and my family get tickets, she also went out of her way to help us with the kiosk that was faulty. Her spring into action caused my movie experience to be beyond my expectations. Thank you Regal and thank you ruby.

Google
Place is clean! Prices are movie prices, maybe just about 2 dollar diffrence than most places up or down. So as well ALL know they make there money from the sweets and snacks. But they serve alcohol as well 😉 Very spacious, popcorn is fresh! And the bathrooms are CLEAN! From my last 3 visits of course.

Google
Regal Theaters offers a really comfortable moviegoing experience. The theater rooms are spacious, well laid out, and make it easy to enjoy your movie without feeling cramped. The seating is comfortable, and the sound and picture quality are excellent. That said, be prepared for a lot of ads and previews before the movie actually starts—easily 30 to 40 minutes’ worth.…

Google
Went to go see the new fantastic 4 in theater 2. This was probably one of my worst movie theater experiences because the entire movie people were non stop reclining which is fine but the recliner all had a high pitched squeak. So throughout the entire movie you were interrupted by loud long squeaks depending on how long it took for someone to adjust thier chairs. Sounded like nails on a chalk board.

Google
I love the Carlsbad regal theater. I filled out several applications but been trying to get ahold of the theater to see the status but not quite sure how. I hope there’s a way I can get connected to someone through here.

Yelp
since there's no AMC in north county and the closest one requires you to drive 40 minutes, we purchased the Regal unlimited because we like to watch 2+ movies a month so for us it's definitely worth it. we frequent this Regal quite a lot, mainly because there's no other option. I will say the workers here are always nice, even though every time we see new people working the concession stands, the customer service is always up to standard. in comparison to other theaters, they only have the basic snacks and drinks - no fancy soda machines, alcoholic stands or gourmet meals. the recliners are pretty nice and comfy, although pretty loud; it gets a bit chilly inside but as long as you have a long sleeve on, you will be fine. not location specific, but I have to mention the app/ website is really slow and counterintuitive. it was challenging to buy our passes and put in all the personal info - they need a major software upgrade. also, the previews were 80% random ads, and only a couple of actual movie previews. I would suggest to arrive 30 min after the start time of the movie, to avoid weird ads.

Yelp
I LOVE COMING TO THE THEATER!! There's always something for somebody, the staff are polite, bathrooms are clean, there's only two things that have changed. I always like coming to Regal for the movies. Every time I come to this theatre, the line for Concessions is always long with only 2 lines opened. If you know your having 3 movies starting at the same time slot, it should be all hands on deck. I love buying concessions anywhere else except for Regal. It's too time consuming. Something new also caught my eye yesterday, the staff checking tickets was doing bag checks. He was scanning tickets and then politely asking guests to open their bags. So if your wearing a bag, prioritize your time. They will do a quick bag check.

Yelp
I live near cineopolis and they let young kids talk and make noise. While this theatre keeps the noise down by monitoring it.

Yelp
I enjoy this movie theater, they do good keeping the place clean and their snack counter has fast lines $20 tickets tho! Which is a bit insane but the recliner seats are really nice and some of the theaters don't have the recliner you have to book them specifically I will come back, everyone is nice and it's innaa good neighborhood
google avatar

Yelp
Overall this is a well maintained theater. The seats are comfortable and they recline. There is dim lighting on the stairs. I enjoyed the previews while waiting for the movie to start. The sound quality is excellent. Customer Service was friendly. I tried a large popcorn with extra butter and it was really good. I also had a hotdog dog and that was not so good. The hotdog was very rubbery. I do not recommend it! Of course everything was overpriced in the concession stand. Four stars for the theater overall and three stars for concessions.

Laleh Z.

Yelp
Watched commercials for 55 minutes! Insane! We were all pretty tired and frustrated by the time movie started .

Jessica M.

Yelp
Enjoyed my time and was clean seating! Happy to have attended with my kids and their friends :)
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
3.5 stars Wanted to watch a movie with my brother and he said this is his go-to cause of the reclining seats. The staff seemed friendly and the seats were comfortable but I would be lying if I said that the sound of someone else moving their seats wasn't annoying during the movie. Not sure if it's cause we caught one of the last showings but the restrooms were pretty trashed.
google avatar

KayAnna S.

Yelp
Always try to book your tickets ahead of time as this theater will quickly sell out of tickets day of for most movies. They don't necessarily have an associate you can buy tickets from up front and they encourage you to use the kiosk. Trying to select seats on the kiosk never works for us so we always use our phones ahead of time or just end up at a different theater. Again this theater is usually pretty busy so expect a line for food/drinks and even a line to get your ticket scanned to get into your assigned theater. Luckily, there is usually plenty of parking in the lots out front so that is the easy part. Once inside the theater, the experience is pretty nice with their leather seats that do recline. I just wouldn't book the first 4 or 5 rows per theater because you are definitely too close to the screen, unless of course you like to look up while watching a movie.

Yelp
Decent theater connected to the mall. If there's going to be theater seating it should be well kept or upgraded though.
google avatar

Trevor T.

Yelp
Not my favorite movie theater of all time but the closest thing you can get to an old school movie theater in Carlsbad. They have reclining seats that are comfy but loud. A concessions stand to grab your popcorn and icee. It's in the mall so you can grab something to eat beforehand. Recommend getting tickets online and downloading them before you get to the theater because reception can sometimes be bad. Also, they show so many commercials that you can arrive 10 minutes late and previews will not have started. Seats are reserved so no need to worry about someone taking your seat. They need more staff I feel like, but unfortunately that is everywhere these days. Saw Superman here and it was SUPER fun.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to this movie theater a ton of times! One of my favorite movie theaters. This year alone, I probably went there 5 times! It's in a great location (The Carlsbad Mall) so you can grab something to eat or drink before/after. It's a nicer / newer movie theater. Great reclining seats. They show a lot of the underground / indie movies which I really enjoy. And best of all, there is a really nice and adorable older gentleman who does the QR scans to get in (,:

Yelp
Movies are not drawing the public the way they used to but I would still prefer sitting in a great theater with great seats than in my living room where I'm subject to all kinds of distractions. Enjoy the theater and the great people that work there. Also, download the app and collect your points for discounts on the concessions!!!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our family outing to this movie theater and I am usually a fan of watching movies at home. The theater is inside the shopping mall and very clean, still seems new, good air conditioning and the chairs have ample room and recline which made it very comfortable. There is a food tray table available. Please be aware that they will show a lot of commercials and previews before the movie starts. We had a full 30 minutes of it, which is honestly too long considering the price of tickets. When using gift cards online there are problems if the gift cards do not cover all tickets. (It doesn't show updated price after gift cards and seems to then charge full price instead) The floor around check in was sticky but seemed very clean otherwise. We'll be back.

Yelp
Love the Regal, great, comfy seats, helpful, employees, and bathrooms are clean and pleasant. Convenient location and plenty of parking. Get there early.

Mariam O.

Yelp
AJ is awesome! I have the unlimited tickets and all the workers are very helpful and kind. Thank you!

Yelp
Johnny and Luis gave outstanding customer service. They are friendly and extremely welcomimg. Thank you!!

Yelp
I've finally left AMC's A-list and joined Regal's unlimited to spread financial support and for a change of scenery. I went here for a 10:40am showing and was impressed with this facility, as it was clean, has comfy seats, has an immersive cinema audio, and includes friendly staff. Next time I'm in the area, I will definitely return here for another pleasant experience, as well as sample their food.

Nanae A.

Yelp
We frequent this theater a lot, and with Yard House and Cheesecake Factory right there, we really like the location for dinner and a movie. Yes, the seats could be updated, but it's always clean and good service. The past few times we have been greeted with a smile from Avalon, who is friendly and always asks us how we've been.

Mark W.

Yelp
Many years ago the covers on your seats went to crap. You guys did a great job replacing them. Well as I'm sure you know they are disgusting again. And I would hope you replace them soon. And this time with a better product that lasts longer. For now we will not be going to your place until this matter is fixed. Enjoy your day. Mark

Yelp
This has become our new REGAL theater to use as its the closest one to Escondido that has comfy reclining seats. Otherwise, its pretty much the same as any other Regal... still missing Coke Products and bankers lines, but it is what it is...

Yelp
I had went here on a Tuesday, and usually have had no issues with the Tuesday deal. Unexpectedly, I experienced an issue. After waiting in a rather long line, I was ready to order my tickets and popcorn. As I was asking for a large popcorn, I was told they only had a special edition " Madam Web" but wasn't part of the Tuesday deal, and would cost $13! I was completely confused... since 1 it wasn't even in theaters anymore, and 2 it was a flop and 3rd they refused to offer an alternative. Which I thought was wild, since I had been there earlier this year and was served a "Taylor Swift" bucket at no extra cost and was included in the Tuesday deal. We settle for a medium but immediately regretted it when we saw how tiny it was.... Which again is crazy since their normal large is just $1 more yet triple the size and includes a free refill. I'm extremely disappointed in this visit.

Yelp
Carlsbad Regal Theater: Recently, I've been trying to get back to the movies more to support, what seems to be, a dying industry. Watching movies at home is nice and comfortable. But there's just something about watching a blockbuster movie on the big screen with a big bag of popcorn and a beer! Living in Oceanside California, Regal Cinemas has provided our city with 2 theaters; one of which has the best location in downtown, but is outdated and in need of upgrades & maintenance. The other is located further inland and is very nice, but further away. This is where Regal Carlsbad comes into play. I've started to frequent this theater more for the superior comfort of their reclining chairs and their impeccable cleanliness. This theater is located right on the border of Oceanside & Carlsbad within the Shoppes at Carlsbad Mall. So it's close enough for me to access without going too far from South Oceanside. The fact that it's close to the 78 and El Camino Real access points is even better. So, the key benefits to this theater is the comfort of their reclining seats, food trays, clean bathrooms, organized concession stand that carries everything from beers, popcorn, candy, hotdogs and a variety of other foods too. If you don't want to eat from their options, then you can eat nearby at the plethora of dining option just outside in the mall itself. It's really a genius location for a theater. The one thing about this theater is that it tends to be priced higher than most others and I understand why. A quality experience like no other. What I typically do is make TUESDAYS my GO-TO movie night and that's because prices drop to under $7 for any movie. But I will use their REGAL APP to purchase my tickets ahead of time and pay a small convenience fee, bringing my total to just under $9. I'm okay with this though, because I get to choose my seats early and my tickets are in my phone. So, if I've already eaten, I can just walk-in and go straight to my movie without dealing with major wait-times in lines. Another brilliant convenience! Overall, I truly love this theater and with their Tuesday Movie Deals, I can still watch my favorite box office hit movies for under $10 and relax in comfort while enjoying this American Pass-time

Yelp
Wow, what a terrible evening and a waste of $. My husband and I went to see Horizon on his birthday, and ended up sitting in a horribly hot theater. I asked an employee to adjust the temperature, they informed me the AC was broke. Since we planned this ahead of time for his birthday, I decided to ride it out...big mistake! When we exited the theater, my face was red from the heat and I just wanted to get in to the AC. We did talk to the manager on the way out as did other patrons. Be sure theater #7 has their AC up and running if you plan on watching the movie.
google avatar

Aleighna S.

Yelp
Love this Regal location! Watched Bad Boys Ride or Die with my husband, and our friends. Recliner seats were super clean and AMAZING! Our theatre room was also super clean. Concessions had lots of options, I grabbed the nacho combo with an ice and popcorn. Super good! Definitely recommended this Regal location compared to this others.

Yelp
I wanted to buy tickets to Barbie online using a gift card, but the Regal website kept giving me errors. I ended up buying the tickets successfully on Fandango. We were able to get the seats we wanted (this theater has assigned seats). We came Sunday midday, and it was pretty busy, so we parked in the farther area of the parking lot and walked over. There are clean bathrooms in the lobby which you don't need tickets to go in, and there are more bathrooms by the theaters after you scan your tickets. We checked in our tickets quickly without a line and had an easy time finding our theater and our seats. The seats are great! They have the motorized recliner and a small table for your snacks and drink. Everything was clean, and the seats were comfortable. Side note: I like this theater because it's next to Happy Lemon and Tasty Noodle House. This shopping mall has been upgrading, which is great.

Andy D.

Yelp
The concession is the worst here. Very slow. Not sure why it took me 35 minutes waiting in line to get a bag popcorn. For some reason, the movie advertised Online mobile ordering, but when you go on their app, it's not available. There's a lot they can improve here.
google avatar

Yannis A.

Yelp
Great seats, awesome sound, spacious theaters but I am a bit disheartened that social distancing is not enforced; there should be at least one empty seat enforced between parties. It would also be great if hand sanitizers were available; they sell food but we have to open up doors and touch various items, bo place to disinfect your hands.
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
While visiting, 80 for Brady came out and I had to see it. I came during the matinee time frame to find out that the tickets are still as much as the evening. Holly molly $13.50 for a 1 o'clock showing. That's crazy. I also found out that the ticket should have been cheaper. I am a senior and was not offered that price. Your theatre is clean and I did not freeze to death like I do at other theatres but still your prices are really high for matinee's. The only other complaint is that I had to wait in line for fifteen minutes with three people ahead of me. I thought I was going to miss the movie. Thank goodness for previews.
google avatar

Anita V.

Yelp
I love going to the movies and this theater has the big reclining seats once you try it you never go back Tuesdays all movies are $6.50 and 1/2 off popcorn And free popcorn on your birthday
google avatar

Kyle D.

Yelp
Called for about an hour straight no one picked up the phone! lost my business to another movie theater! Maybe next time!
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
I reviewed this theater a year and a half ago and gave it one star. Yesterday I really wanted to see a movie that was not showing anywhere else, so I ignored my own advice and attended a movie there. It's still terrible. The reasons are the same as they were a year and a half ago (Yelp will link you to that older review).
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
This is the nicest Regal theatre in North County. Recliner seating, clean bathrooms, and friendly staff. Prefer this theatre over all other Regals in the area.

Karen M.

Yelp
Buying tickets for movies is frustrating. They do not have a live ticket booth person. If you purchase your tickets in advance online there is a service charge. The popcorn was good, though.
google avatar

Gretchen A.

Yelp
Love this theater! It's clean and friendly, especially good customer service tonight from Shay! Thank-You for an enjoyable experience!
google avatar

Maribella R.

Yelp
I've been here a few times when my sister and I go on a shopping spree and want to catch a new movie. We grab a beer and settle in and honestly it's some of the best times we've had. It's not a fancy theater, it's not the most accessible and to be honest you get what you pay for. It reminds me of the cheap theater I used to go to in the 90s. Granted I was 6 but I remember it like it was yesterday. People rushing through the lobby and the smell of popcorn and nacho cheese and the long hallway with never ending theaters. I still like it, even with the weird Nicole Kidman commercial.
google avatar

Ahron B.

Yelp
Maybe because it was a holiday matinee, but there was nobody checking for tickets at all as you walk toward the theater area, so you could theoretically just walk in and go into any theater you wanted, provided no one has a ticket for the seat you sit in. As such, the theaters have assigned seating, so you'll have to look online to see where the unsold seats are, which is also nice if you want to reserve tickets for the right view or bigger groups. The recliner seats are actually quite comfortable, but they're very close together in one long row as opposed to groups of two or four. The major knock here is the concessions took a really long time, so show up early or you'll miss the previews.

Luc D.

Yelp
I am not against previews but over 40 minutes of them is insane. We had an 8:30 movie and got there at 8:20. The movie started after 9. I live next to a Cinepolis and have been going to those for years they are no where that long of previews. If they plan on playing over 30 minutes of previews they should let people know the actual start times of movies so you aren't sitting there for 40 minutes before a 2 and a half hour movie.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
Twenty minutes of advertisements is ridiculous, we are already paying for the overpriced popcorn and the tickets themselves, yet we get 5 times as many adds as FREE streaming services would be showing. Honestly feels disrespectful. I'm at my 10:40 showing of mad max right now and it's 11:02, the adds are still rolling.
google avatar

Spencer K.

Yelp
Nice and roomy seating. No one directly behind you. Snack bar/beers are adequate. Parking can be difficult as it shares with the mall.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
Third time we've been here . My sons eleven year birthday It's a Tuesday afternoon. We had total of ten people with us . They could've used one more person ringing people up , kind of a long line for snacks. Took about 20 minutes. We saw the movie Encanto. I have to say , the Regal app to buy tickets on is pretty terrible but the employees helped us out at the consession area . All the employees were great . Seats reclined and we're very comfortable . The theatre was new and clean . They didn't really serve dinner items but they had lunch items to purchase and even offered beer . There's lots of Rester-aunts in this shopping center so maybe that's why . We will definitely come back but won't buy tickets on the Regal app
google avatar

Rafa E.

Yelp
I love movies and especially in theaters I love the new seats and staff is always helpful. I wish they would add heaters to the seats. They would always get a better rating if their concession stand had better organization. They have a great selection of hot food and adult beverages.
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
Nice theater. Comfortable seating. Nice staff. Clean bathroom. Typical food. Nothing special about the food.
google avatar

Cory A.

Yelp
Fantastic recliner seating, but over the years the projection quality has gone horribly down hill. The bulbs are clearly run too long, and the image in most theaters is incredibly dim. Other Regal Cinemas nearby don't suffer this issue as much, so management here must be running the bulbs past their optimal life to save money. The audio is also seemingly lower than any other theater nearby as well. The overall "cinema" experience here is very weak, they need to start doing better.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
I've never been to a theater staffed with the rudest and most apathetic managers. You would think a big corporation would have the same standards across all their theaters. This theater is in no way even close to the standard and experience of other Regal theaters in the area. Just refunding tickets and concessions for an experience so bad that you decide not to stay and see the movie is not enough to make up for the time and money taken to go. If you removed the concessions and therefore the need to deal with rude, apathetic nasty managers then seeing a movie at this location would be fine. Theaters have always justified their ridiculous food and drink mark-ups as necessary to make money. It used to drive me crazy to have people around me with smelly and often very loud foods they snuck in. However the concession experience at this theater truly justifies bringing your own food and drink. It's no wonder people are choosing streaming at home over going to theaters less and less with places like this.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
It was ok the line for good and tickets in the same spot one thing I noticed is that no one asked for our ticket

Esther B.

Yelp
What a disappointment! Again! I keep going back and as of today, I'm done. It's the final straw for me at this Regal, unfortunately. I left the theater mid-movie and got a refund (though they wouldn't refund the convenience fee ). My experience was simply awful and it's not the first awful experience. I've been an avid movie goer and loved Regal since before Regal bought out Edwards! I was even considering their membership for unlimited movies. But their processes and policies are so poor, I just cannot bring myself to patronize this establishment any longer. Why would they make you show your ID when you're coming back for a second drink, even though you have the wrist band on and they checked your ID less than an hour prior? That policy is ridiculous. I don't fault the guy behind the counter, he's following the rules. But guarantee you some guy in a jacket (management) told me when I got my first alcoholic beverage that I would only have to show my ID again IF I wanted more than 3 drinks. Of course, he was nowhere to be found when I came out for drink 2. So there's miscommunication at the very least, but Jesus, give your employees the power to sell more alcohol to your guests when they have already checked ID once. I realize there are laws around alcohol service, but they don't have this policy at other movie theaters, so this is your choice and is changeable. Previous experiences, especially when busy, are especially frustrating around food service and delivery. Too many times we've waited 20+ minutes to even order food and then are told we have to come back out in 20 or wait for the food beyond when the movie starts. What is the point of this service if what you're offering is NOT service-focused? Highly recommend getting an operational expert in to fix your very broken processes and policies. If something changes I'll come back. Otherwise, I'll be at Cinepolis where they actually know how to take care of their customers. If you wish to have movie lovers as devoted customers, put them first! If not, carry on with your poor operations and policies that are more restrictive than necessary and make it impossible to have an enjoyable experience.

Ivonne R.

Yelp
Our movie slot was at 2 pm, yet we all had to sit 23 minutes before our movie actually started. There was far too many advertisements prior to getting the actual movie started. Many of the commercials we all watched 2 - 3x. And it was obvious many others were frustrated as I could hear their comments nearby. Awful for what one pays.

Andrew F.

Yelp
This theater is the best of all the Regal's the staff has been phenomenal since we have been going there the past 3 years. I thought I lost a wallet there and we had manger's on their hands and knees looking got it under seats. I have had issues with the app and the manger's just take care of the issues. What it looks like to me is that the corporate office just tells the theater to do the right thing and they just do it. If I had one complaint I would say they need an S line for the concessions. Some people not staff are pretty slow trying to use the app and get all their rewards. Keep up the great customer service.
