Frenchie Biarritz

"This restaurant ensconced in a hotel looking down over the bay has been entrusted to Grégory Marchand (of Frenchie). Once past the vast atrium that serves as the bar (where you get a foretaste of all the details of the delightful 1920s-inspired decor), you come to a beautiful dining space and a terrace with sea views. The chef has created a menu inspired by the Basque region and added a few creative touches in a "chic brasserie" style: smoked aubergine, yuzu condiment, grapefruit and black garlic; meagre meunière, artichoke barigoule, tarragon hollandaise, shellfish bisque with vanilla. Extensive wine list (around 15 wines by the glass)." - Michelin Inspector

Experimental Has Come a Long Way Since Cocktails

"The first golden age of Biarritz came before the advent of air travel, and it’s during this era that the original Regina was constructed. And now, just in time for this splendid seaside town’s second golden age, this spectacular Belle Époque grand hotel has returned to service. Its gleaming white façade remains familiar, but in its new incarnation as the Regina Experimental, its interior spaces have been reborn in the signature Experimental style." - Mark Fedeli

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay as a family with a 1.5 year old toddler. The hotel is in a great location - a bit further from the hustle of Biarritz but close enough to everything. The hotel itself is very stylish, the common area is very attractive. The room once again is both very attractive in terms of design but also very comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout the hotel, special shout out to concierge Thomas. The bistro is open throughout the day and cooked some amazing food which our little one enjoyed very much (she is usually a fussy eater in holidays). The only small criticism I would have is that the breakfast selection could be a bit more varied at this price tag but was good enough to enjoy. Look forward to coming back.

Such a gorgeous place with top notch service & staff. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at this grand, yet hip hotel. The Regina’s rich history is perfectly married with a cool contemporary vibe. And the view from our room was breathtaking! |We were lucky to have a birthday dinner at Frenchie, which was delicious; & the restaurant staff were lovely.

We had a really lovely stay at this beautiful hotel just a short walk from the centre of Biarritz and very close to the lighthouse. The staff were faultless particularly on the front desk. We had a very helpful and polite young man who showed us to our delightful deluxe bedroom and also recommended local restaurants, as this was our first time in Biarritz. We had no complaints at all, although the shower in the bathroom was a little difficult to get into, as it was in a bath and you had to get into it to turn on the taps. A bit difficult when my husband is 6 ft 2"! Also as the check out is quite early and our flights into the afternoon, it would have been helpful to have a hospitality room. All in all though, it was most enjoyable and hopefully, if we visit Biarritz again, we will almost certainly stay at this hotel again. Thank you Julia

You arrive at the hotel and you are welcomed by a set of stairs with no ramp, service or elevator to carry your luggage up. I had to work and I asked to have a meeting room and was told it was booked. I sat in a sofa in front of an empty meeting room until 2pm completely uncomfortable. Nobody using the meeting room. I asked for late check out, also not possible. The room is comfortable, nice bathroom, good coffee, just need more space in the sink though. A bit far from city center but have nice lighthouse and view close by.

Not our first time at Regina but certainly our last time! We wanted to use a spa and found out the steam room was not working. Ladies at the spa ‘ turned it on’ with no success. Went to a reception desk. Two lovely ladies there ( a real ´dream team’!) - one an intern and another with much more substantial life experience reassured us that everything was working. They even spoke with a technician on the phone. We went back to our room to wait for a phone call confirming that the steam room has been fixed. Of course, no phone call! On a way to dinner, we did ask for an update from our lovely front desk ladies and they reassured us that not only everything was fixed but apparently the technician confirmed that we were at the spa having a great time! Needless to say the steam room was never fixed….. Amazing approach to customer service- just keep convincing the customer that the problem doesn’t exist and hope the problem will go away! We could not leave this hotel fast enough. Dont waist your time and money, there are plenty other options in Biarritz! And of course, we completely understand that Regina may wanted to save some money and not run a steam room while the hotel was almost empty-it just needed to be communicated to customers honestly and openly… apparently too much to expect from a 4 star establishment :))

The Regina Experimental has been on my list since it’s opening. As it is winter now, and the restaurant is only open in the evening, I decided to go to the Patio and have a little bite there. Whereas the interior is truly stunning and breathtaking, the rest of the experience wasn’t for me. I was the only guest present when I arrived. The stuff was unfocused and unengaged. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. The fries were undercooked, the sandwich was unbalanced and boring. Nobody ever checked whether I liked my meal. I had to catch the attention of one of the waiters in order to be able to express my disappointment. Even though I did not have to pay for the food, I will certainly not come back. Not interested in this kind of approach towards the customer. I only give two stars because of the beautiful interiors and the nice champagne.

What a wonderful experience! Room overlooking the coast and lighthouse; great staff; lovely ambience. We went off season and got lucky with the weather which is usually rainy in Feb. Instead sunshine and 70F/21C temps. Frenchie’s Restaurant was first rate - big servings + rich food. Centre of town a nice 20 min walk either on the main road or along the beaches. Biarritz is a great destination for romantic holidays, Basque culture and food, surfing, shopping and sunshine; all within walking distance of the hotel.

Regina Experimental Biarritz is simply top notch. What a great location and what excellent service and comfort. I loved it. The moment I arrived I felt welcomed by everyone I met - starting with Susie who was nothing short of gracious. Throughout my stay it started to feel like home away from home to me as all the details were paid attention to. The room was wonderful, filled with light, great amenities and even a nice gift that is actually tasteful to welcome their guests. The whole staff was exceptional and kind - never any attitude and always very welcoming. The breakfasts are tasteful as are the smiles that greet you upon arrival each morning and throughout the day/night. I would like to call out the names of those who were always attentive. Thank you all for making my trip so memorable. Thank you, Susie, Thomas, Antoine, Dak, Tatiana, Ceasar, Venus, Carlos, Maialen and the whole morning crew at breakfast. You are all wonderful. Thank you to the general manager Charles who was equally kind. I made sure he knew it was a very well run place with exceptional spirits. I wish I had written all your names down but I see you all in my memories, which thanks to you will be close to my heart. I look forward to coming back. A bientôt and thank you.
