Yelp
I found Rehana on Yelp recently, and the whole experience was delightful, and Rehana's food is exceptional!
My 10-year-old son and I walked in the door and we were greeted by the owners, quickly followed by 2 deserts, gifted to us, just as a welcome for it being our first time. One a rice pudding, and the other a puff pastry with cream and pistachios called Warbet. The Warbet pastry is phenomenal. I do like my donuts, but I'd take Rehana's Warbet over a donut any day for a treat... airy crunchy outside, and the inside a silky smooth, not overly sweet cream.
Being our first time we decided to have a few extra things off the menu, with the bonus of having enough to take home. And we had plenty! We went with the leg of lamb, Baba Ganoush, beef kabab, chicken Shawarma and the pita bread.
My son pleasantly surprised me in wanting to order the lamb, and proclaimed the best lamb ever. I have to say I agree. The leg of lamb is fall apart off the bone tender, an absolute gorgeous cut of meat, and a perfect marriage of spices and seasoning.
The ground beef in the kabab was mouthwatering delicious, perfect in texture, and the spices vibrant but not overpowering. I usually find Kafta kababs pungent in cumin and too salty... but not this one, Really, Rehana's is much better than any I've had in my lifetime, eating Middle Eastern food here in Portland.
The Saffron rice, salad, baba ghanoush, and chicken shawarma are just as good if not better than I've had before.
The restaurant itself is welcoming, warm and clean, but no frills. The owners are humble and so welcoming, that in combination with the incredible food, who wants frills? Not me :). My mouth was singing with the delectable flavors for hours after. My family loved the leftovers.
I can positively say Rehana is now a place we will be seeking out for special occasions, as well as family nights.
