I had such a great experience at **R.E.I.**! Pete F. is a wonderful person—friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about helping customers. The service was excellent and made a huge difference for me. Everything was done quickly, professionally, and with great attention to detail. It was so helpful that I can honestly say I would recommend this place 100% to anyone who needs their bicycle fixed. If you’re looking for a trustworthy spot to get your bike serviced, this is definitely the place to go!!!

Hank Chang

Google
Solid service and friendly staff. Not everything a deal but good quality and sometimes men and women's gear on sale for one but not the other! You have to buzz for help with the changing rooms. A few things on sale, but not always consistent - men's snow bib, not on sale, same one for women - on sale... strange? Still quick and easy front checkout and membership pricing.

Google
I went in for the labor day sales and I have shopped here before. Each time is a great experience lots of selection of really good quality stuff. Though what stands out to me the most is how friendly and helpful the staff are. I was buying some things for camping and a new backpack, two members of staff Dan and Stephanie were incredibly helpful and seemed very informed on all the products in store as well as taking the time to find me what fit best for my needs. They made my experience 100x better hope to see them again.

REI is fantastic for all things outdoor! I recently got a Gregory backpack from them, and I absolutely love it—super comfortable and perfect for my hiking adventures. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, helping me find exactly what I need. Their selection of high-quality gear from top brands is unbeatable, and I appreciate their focus on sustainability. The member perks are a great bonus too! Highly recommend REI for anyone gearing up for the outdoors!

Google
Great store. I have been co-op member since last several years. Lots of options, great service. I get my bikes fixed here( lowest cost I have seen). Become co-op member and the rewards are great. I buy lots of hiking and other gears from here. Ask the store about benefits of membership.

Google
Not what it once was... More workers than customers yet they all seemed too busy and moving quickly for somewhere they had to get to... Prices are high now, even on their own REI branded stuff. I know this is a smaller store but low selection and range of sizes for what was stocked. Clean though.

Google
This REI store is great. The people are very professional and helpful. I had the pleasure of interacting with more than one employee to accomplish my goal at the store. Each one of them was as nice and as helpful as the other, WOW! Shout Out to Ken, Dov, Amanda & Marie

Google
I took my bike in for a tuneup and was helped by Peter, who provided the best customer service I’ve ever received. When I dropped it off I asked for his advice on a used e-bike. Even though I wasn’t buying from REI, he spent the time to give me lots of advice. When I picked up my bike, he removed a car seat from the back to make room for it. It’s no wonder with employees like this, REI is known for their outstanding service. I’m a customer for life!

Yelp
Interesting visits.Years ago I went to the store and the staff were no where to be seen. Recently I returned, I was in to SHOP! :). A staff did ask if they could help me but they just had other things to do seemingly. I ended up being there for a a couple of hours and purchased a large amount of items. (15 full price) and becoming a 'member'.The staff that let you in the fitting room were extremely helpful. Upon returning twice to return a total of two items, the cashier staff were rude and not caring, almost disgruntled. Very odd and won't be returning here even though it is close to work. I liked and enjoyed the shopping but the staff either get heat from their corporate people (which is probably the case) or are just very unhappy. I can't imagine why outdoor loving people would be unhappy!

Yelp
Went in, salespeople solid for pickup and at the cashier, or asking if I needed help multiple times as I walked through the store. People like to work here, it seems. Changing rooms are buzz for a helper. Definitely enough staffers and people who are friendly to help all over. Three staffers were talking about one pair of ski boots they sold with the wrong insoles (it was the display old blue insoles instead of the new ones) and trying to find and contact that customer to the best of their ability. Good customer service, there. Winter gear almost all out in February, so end of season and clearance sales on some items, but not others (same snow bib for women was on sale, the men's version - not on sale? guess it's about how many they've sold?). Didn't really find any ski socks of note. Some jackets on sale. And some weird jelly bean flavors. Skip the bubble tea version, they taste terrible. Bike and ski services in the back. Prices aren't too bad, so hopefully would be smooth to get service. Will bring back my bike later this year to see what they can do about a sticky lower gear.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. The skinny tall man with dark hair was very rude and condescending. Horrible customer service. Had to ask to refund because I didn't want to give him my money.

Yelp
I go to REI perhaps once every five years, and it's usually because they have something I can't find at an outdoors place that's much closer to me. While the merchandise is often pricey, if I can find what I need, I buy it, even though I know I'm going to get hassled about buying a membership. I'm well aware of their co-op membership program and don't participate specifically because I very rarely visit one of their stores, let alone purchase anything. To spend $30 to save $8 on one visit makes no sense, and I can manage to hold onto my receipts in the event I need to return something. I don't try to return things years later. I really don't need to go through the hassle of saving a membership card or remembering what phone number or email address I gave them when I signed up. Recently, I went into the East Hanover store to buy pants, and was fully prepared to be queried about whether I was a member or not. When the cashier asked, I said, "no, not interested. Doesn't make sense for me. I only come here every few years." That should be sufficient, right? "Hear me out!" he demanded, rattling off the program benefits. I didn't care. Just ring up my pants and let me leave. No doubt, REI employees get some sort of commission for signing up members, but once someone says no, that should be enough. No need to be rude about it.

Yelp
I dropped my bike off for service and spent about 20 min going over the work and bike setup with the mechanic. I was told they'd need a few days to complete the work. I got a call a couple of days later stating they wouldn't do the work because of the setup, so I had to drive back and pick it up. I wish they had told me when I dropped it off and spent 20 min going over the bike setup so I could have saved a trip. Also, when I got the bike back, there were some loose bolts that hadn't been loose when dropped off and the derailleur cage was scratched. This was a disappointing experience.

Yelp
I ordered a backpack online. The purchase was a gift. My daughter wanted a different backpack. I sent the backpack back for a return. I received an email 3 days later saying they received my return package. It has been 11 days and still no refund. I called and the customer service rep was not the nicest saying they just processed the return that day and it could take up to 10 business days for them to refund my money. I asked why so long when they received it 11 days ago. She tried to say they just received it. I had to go to my email and read the conformation from 11 days ago and she was almost arguing w me about the email which clearly stated they received it 11 days ago. I am hoping I get my money back, but just not a great return process or customer service .

Yelp
If I could give this location negative stars I would. First, I went into this store wanting a bike and it took about thirty minutes for me to be helped... then I test rode it told the guy who helped me I wanted the bike, went to the bathroom for two minutes proceeded to find the bike and the person who helped me was not there I waited about a minute for another worker to help me and then as she was giving me my bike a male worker with piercings, dark hair, tall and skinny came and snatched it away claiming he had a customer "eying it ". I was so mortified as he took my bike away from me to sell it to someone else and the man who helped me was no where to be found. The man who took it away had a horrible condescending attitude towards me. He probably just really wanted his commission and it came at the cost of my mental state. He talked down to me saying that "I only wanted it because the other customer did " when that was clearly not the case I was completely blindsided when he came and snatched it away. He also claimed that he had to sell it to his client who did not event test ride the bike at all. There was very much tension between the other customer and I as the worker kept telling me to get the bike that she didn't want because she was in between two options, downplaying the fact that he had stole my bike from me. It was a very upsetting day and honestly the worst customer service I've ever seen in my life to the point where I had to write a review which I never had done before.

Yelp
Going to REI is usually a "necessary evil" for me: As a fat Black woman I don't look like what folks typically think is an outdoorsy person and I always feel out of place and on display when I'm in other REI locations. So much so that I've completely embraced curbside pickup just to limit my interactions. However I have a backpacking trip coming up this weekend so I HAD to go into an actual store. I AM SOOOO GLAD I PICKED THIS LOCATION. There was a woman working the camp chair section who was so warm and friendly to me. Gave me 4-5 options to try, put together a chair for me, explained the pros and cons of each. She also told me about the members only section upstairs. Every person I encountered in the store was amazing. I live about 40 miles from this REI but I will not hesitate to make this my regular store. I'm still nervous as heck about my trip this weekend but I'm feeling a little bit better based on my experience yesterday. I know in my brain that the outdoors is for everyone - yesterday I actually felt that in my heart.

Yelp
Went to REI today to buy some running shoes. This store operates under the old 1980's style of shoe sales where all the inventory is in some back room and you're 100% dependent on a salesperson to run back-and-forth in order to try on various selections. Today, there was ONE person working the area, and she wasn't particularly energetic. She was having trouble managing the 2 other people who were in the area. After 10 minutes of waiting and receiving no recognition of my existence, I decided to leave.

Yelp
Bought my first pair of hiking shoes last week and Brian G was an awesome help. He gave me some great tips and I absolutely love the shoes. Took them for a test run today through mud, wet leaves and rocks. They were comfortable and sturdy. I'm so excited about these shoes. Thank you!

Yelp
We needed a bike for my son and local spots (which we like to support) had a waiting list of several months. So we decided to check bigger stores and most were out except REI. They had the specific style and size we need and also offered complementary assembly and curbside pickup. SCORE! We weren't able to check out their inventory on other items - camping, outdoor items and such (as they are known for this) as we didn't enter the store. Online they had comparable prices and a good amount of items for pick up. Make sure to keep them in mind when the need arises. Super friendly staff who brought the bike to our car with a smile and made my sons day! An added note, checking in online was a breeze and although there was a line to get in (we thought we would be waiting a while) the bike was brought out in less than 5 minutes. With this kind of experience, who needs to go inside anymore?

Yelp
Really a big place for all types of various outdoorsy things, you've got it all over here. I've had to buy several purchases from here when I was training for a big run, buying gels and pouches. I recently bought my sports watch and also a couple pairs of sandals from here. The amount of customer service and how everyone is all so chill here, I love it. I think the biggest takeaway is how the front desk is really knowledgeable and friendly, will definitely continue to come back for more items in the future

Yelp
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. These people appear to actually enjoy their jobs. The guy in shoes was amazing(founding my actual size!!!) the lady that helped in the backpack section was great(even gave me pillows to help stuff packing cubes), Tim we encountered at the register was super nice! Good work everyone!! I hate shopping but this was enjoyable. Excellent selection. Decent sized REI, it's no flag ship store but it's got a little bit of everything.

Ethan C.

Yelp
just great customer service and help for buying gear. and the staff were super friendly and helpful. I will admit the prices can be a bit pricey.

Yelp
Today I left REI East Hanover, NJ because they would not honor a coupon that I had forgot at home. I know I should have brought it but when I asked if I can purchase the stuff now and come back with coupon the lady manager said that she would not honor that also. I've been to other REIs and especially the Yonkers location, and they had honored forgotten coupons before. When I mentioned to her that other REIs had done that for me, she simply stated that other states have their own policies. She was extremely short and apathetic. No customer service what's so ever. The problem is that I live far away from there and I needed these parts for my bike and a helmet for my 1 year old. Not to mention that I am also a member of REI. If I could go to another REI I would just because that person made my experience there very unpleasant. It's a shame because I had more parts to buy for my mountain bike. I believe she is aware that their store is only 1 if 3 in central to north NJ so she pretty much was trying to take advantage of that. She was also willing not to honor 20% for exchange of lack of customer service.

Vicky K.

Yelp
This is a coop so if you join you can get discounts; not sure how useful it is for those who may only go here very occasionally. That's the only downside. I went to buy hiking shoes and the salesperson was very helpful - he gave me a lot of information about each of the shoes I was considering.

Yelp
Years ago, I used to have to drive to New Rochelle, NY to visit REI. They were a local LL Bean - good quality, fair prices and lots of tempting outdoor goodies to bring home. We have been members for years and now that there are a few locally in NJ, I pop in whenever I have a need for a particular garment. This visit I bought a bargain-priced rain jacket on clearance. Nothing fancy, just simple, well made kit. The store is still filled with tempting goods and their own brand, like LL Bean's branded goods, are a good value hunter's choice. They are staffed by people who not only work there, share their passion and knowledge of the outdoors. Don't be afraid to ask for advice - the person you're talking to will probably be have an encyclopedic knowledge on whatever you need to know. For proof, go upstairs and read the postings on their staff activity board. Inspiring. Lots of parking. Clean bathrooms, Fair prices. Great staff. Recommended. Great value during sale periods.

Yelp
A tough competitor for Dicks Sporting Goods. I love coming here to get my sporting needs. Unfortunately, there is none in central Jersey so I would have to either order online or take a 45 minute drive to the nearest REI. The customer service is great here. They usually have clearance sales in spring time and if you are an REI member, you will get the invitation to check out their clearance spring sales. It's usually set up outdoors under a tent. To be a member, you'd have to pay a one time enrollment fee of $20 but trust me the fee will pay for itself. Other perks are that members receive a dividend year end of a % of what they have purchase from REI. It's no brainer to join if you know that you will shop of sportswear or equipment plus if you have family members, share the account with them so you can collect all the points.

Yelp
Jennifer did a great job explaining what to watch for in picking ski boots. Very knowledgeable, patient, and no pushy pressure to buy. Would always come to REI first to buy.

Steven A.

Yelp
Most of the employees are fine, but the 3-4 I have dealt with recently were horrible. I asked 2 older gentlemen (employees) if someone could help me bring in a kayak for return. They said you will have to sell it on eBay because you won't be able to return it. They eventually asked why I was returning the kayak. I said the kayak was bigger than expected and didn't maneuver well. They assumed I bought the kayak years ago and said you can't return things after more than a year. I bought it mid May and couldn't return it earlier as REI was not taking in store returns until this week. They kept saying nope you can't return it and one said it's against the spirit of the return policy if it's not defective. I told them to leave me alone and get me a manager who actually knows the return policy. I was able to return the kayak for a refund, but it was inspected by the manager who was actually professional unlike the other 2 guys I first spoke to. If I was not persistent about getting my money back they would have refused to refund me. The manager apologized for my experience with her employees but it wasn't her fault at all. Beware of the 100% satisfaction policy. You may have to work to get a refund. I've been an REI member for 10 years but will definitely consider other places before coming here again. The handful of bad employees make all the good ones look bad.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
I come to REI way too often yet I am always overwhelmed by the amazing selection. Clothes, shoes, bikes, day packs, electronic gear, even dog toys -- the store just goes on and on. Don't do much camping anymore but all my favorite outdoor clothes and shoe brands are here, like Patagonia, North face and Keen. And don't sell the in-house brand short! I love the REI-label fleece and outerwear, I wear it all winter. The staff here is invariably friendly and tremendously knowledgeable about the stuff they sell, so even though this place looks like a big box store you can still expect expert help. I've been a member since I was too young to drive LOL. Now the price to join is $20 and for that one-time fee you get a dividend of about 10% on everything you buy at full price. This place is worth visiting just for the display of headlamps. if you've ever tried to do a job under a car or in a dark place without one you're crazy. Come sign yourself up for about 30 bucks, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
I think REI is one of the coolest stores I've shopped in in years. Unfortunately, I don't do a lot of camping, climbing, skiing, or kayaking. What I DO love is their footwear and running sections of the store, and while I don't do a lot of camping, I have purchased some nice camping gear here, including a great knife. Here's what's really great about REI, if you have questions about anything in the store, you're going to ask people who use this stuff your question. The employees all seem to be the outoors types so it isn't just some high school kid who needed a job, but someone who cares about the stuff they are selling you. In fact, whenever I'm I the store I WISH I was more into outdoor activities because the stuff is just so damn cool... If you're an outdoor person and you AREN'T a member at REI, you're missing out. Don't bother with the larger sporting good chains for your outdoor gear, go to REI!

Cary M.

Yelp
I came into REI today with a bike break problem. Jeff and Pete T paused what they were doing and fixed the break, found a gear problem, and fixed my bike lock, which saved me $100-$200. i learned about what to look for in a gel seat (and the upcoming sale which I will buy online) and gloves, which I bought. I love their customer service - better than High Gear. I am glad that I am a REI East Hanover member. This is an example of a great customer experience CX. - Cary

Yelp
Best customer service I've ever experienced. Ask for John. Unparalleled customer experience

Yelp
This place is awesome. They stock a large variety of hiking and camping equipment and apparel. Everything that I have ever went there for they had in stock.
google avatar

Sussanna G.

Yelp
REI has always been a very dependable place for me to get my athletic gear. Probably pricier than your typical sportswear store, but the quality is unmatched. Associates are always very helpful and friendly. You can't beat $20 for a lifetime membership, especially with the perks it comes with. I recently got into spinning and was guided in the right directions for gear. For spending over $100 in one transaction and being a member, I received a $20 gift card to use in August. I'll be back to pick up new gear soon.
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
REI has a great website. There is a lot more merchandise online than in the store. That's really my only complaint with this store. Other than that, I like it a lot. The best thing to do is check the reviews on their website, there are plenty of them from real people giving real feedback. The sales staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The products are of high quality and the selection is good. If you plan on buying stuff more than a few times a year it's a no brainer buying a membership. You get back 10% on all non-sale items at the end of the year. You wind up covering the cost of the membership pretty easily if you purchase a large ticket item. It's a lifetime membership unlike a lot of stores where you'll have to pay an annual fee. Even if you never plan to buy a lot of stuff, but want to learn more about camping, hiking or climbing they have classes from time to time. Go in or online and check out the calendar of events. I've been in several times and enjoy it each time.

Yelp
I love this place.... the best selection for hiking,camping,rock- climbing, biking and kayaking. i started coming here a year ago because i am climbing kilamanjaro this year. so i wanted to start hiking and preparing for the trip. I became a member ($20 bucks for lifetime) and you get some cool perks. all the regular price items- you get a percentage and end of year ( march) - you get a dividend check. through out the year- they give you 20% off items. they even have something called a garage sale that is popular where they sell items that are returned etc for good prices. from all the gear i have been buying for hiking and kilamanjaro- i recently got a 90 buck dividend check :) yay The people are always nice and very friendly and knowledgeable. I have learned so much about my hobbies because of them. if i want staff attention-i try to avoid weekends because it gets super busy whats also nice about this place- is that they offer classes if you want to learn to hike or backpack or rock climb etc. and it cheaper if you're a member they do offer trips to places but i have to say- those prices are PRICEY. website is cool and easy to navigate. i like the wish lists. also any thing you buy- you pretty much can return it and they hardly give you any problem i keep hearing how the SOHO store is amazing. I def want to check it out soon. houston street, NYC

Yelp
So came here for some hiking supplies and thought this place was great! Spent a lot of time combing through the store and found some great snowboard tuning stuff pretty cheap that i picked up. Also yesterday went to there garage sale they have every so often. Picked up a steri-pen for 25 bucks in a waterproof case that was just missing batterys. The case is worth more then 25 and the pen is worth 100 bucks. So it was a steal imo. The membership is worth it too if you purchase stuff annually. You get 10% back every year and its 20 for a lifetime membership. The only catch is you need to spend 10 bucks a year. Which is nothing.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Bought a $350 garmin watch here. It stopped working after 1 yr and REI won't stand behind it. Wish I bought if for much less on Amazon.

MmmkK P.

Yelp
Love REI... while this is no flagship store it does have a little of everything. Can't beat the prices, and convenience!
google avatar

Yan M.

Yelp
Came here to get rock climbing shoes. The employee working in the climbing section was so helpful. He ran back and forth and took his time getting different shoes in different sizes until we found the perfect fit. This is the only sports store around that has climbing gear. They also have a pretty great membership program, $20 for a lifetime membership and comes with tons of benefits.
google avatar

Tyler D.

Yelp
The employees make this the best camping supply spot. They aren't just employees but they also camp and hike and do everything the store sells. Good to have people to ask questions and learn from them.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
Wonderful staff and a great selection! My husband and I were planning for an upcoming hiking trip and we went in at least 4 times to return things we had purchased from The garage and the store and pick up new sizes. We worked with Nicole and a nice British man who's name I can't remember! They were so helpful and went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. They really have the best customer service.

Yelp
When it comes to outdoor gear, you cannot skimp. At very least, you have to take care of your feet that take you around all those countless miles, slopes, boulders, sharp rocks and water streams, right? So get 'em something good! One gift for your left foot, one gift for your right foot. Pair of sturdy waterproof boots will make a difference if you hiking often and far. Light breathable socks to keep you comfy and warm. Good shoelaces so you don't have to re-tie in the middle of steep slope. Clothes, too. You will be battling wind, snow and who knows what else (bears??) - gotta be prepared! They also have good selection of tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, cooking supplies and anything else you would need for your next outdoor adventure. So what are you waiting for? Get out there, now! Mountains are calling for you!

Alex S.

Yelp
I have been going to this store for years and it has always been a pleasant experience. However, today was not the case. The cashier Kim was extremely rude. When I asked her how much balance was on my gift card she scowled and told me "figure it out yourself: call the 800 number if you want to know your balance". I asked if I could speak to a manager and she refused to get one. I will not return and I will certainly not recommend this place to my Morris or Hudson County Hiking group.

Yelp
Quality over quantity. Knowledgeable staff. I can address my skiing and running needs at REI as well as buy gifts for most family members. They tend to sell expensive product, but I've found that if you go with their brand you can save a lot of money without sacrificing quality.

Anna I.

Yelp
I just recently started going to this store. I'm not your typical outdoorsy customer but there is something special and unique about the selection and experience in this location. Well-curated assortments and very friendly salespeople. I love the REI line for my kids! I did think there was opportunity in a better footwear and more edited backpack/belt bag selection, but I loved the mix of brands for clothing in women's.
google avatar

Rich P.

Yelp
A little while ago I decided that I wasn't going to wear costumes anymore, and since then I've spent a lot of time shopping at REI. I guess I do this so that I can get semi-technical clothing that I can also wear casually - let's me get multiple uses out of my wardrobe. REI is an excellent website, and this store in East Hanover is a great store. Be advised, this is one of their medium-sized stores. So, you're not gonna find nearly as much merchandise as you would on their website, in one of their large stores, or at Campmor, for example. Their selection of packs is somewhat limited. No Lowe Alpine. A few Ospreys, Deuter, Gregory, and REI brand packs. I picked up an Osprey this past summer. Turned out to be terrible fit. Returned it, no questions asked, full refund. So, I guess what I use this store for is last minute gear, deals, and apparel. I also tend to get a lot of gifts here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They always have good input if I have a question about gear. What I like about REI is that they have an amazing return policy, they carry top of line gear, their website is easy to use and I really trust their extensive bank of reviews, and it just seems like the gear they carry is more technical than you would find at LL Bean. They also have a bike shop, cross country ski gear, not sure about AT setups and telemark setups, They also have a decent book section, and some climbing gear. Reduced from 5 to 4 stars because I know their larger stores are better, and 5 is for as good as it gets. Discerning shoppers may find the gear selection limited.

Yelp
Yay! This place just makes me think of outdoorsy hippies who love to hike, eat trail mix and granola, and wear those weird shoes that look like glorified toe socks. I mean, let's face it, the employee uniform consists of cargo shorts and some sort of fishing vest. However, I recently got a new bike - a beach cruiser to be more descriptive - and I've been looking for a rear bike rack for toting groceries and maybe my dog (who is 15 lbs). I came here to browse the selection of racks and other bike accessories and even though the store isn't overly huge, there was a decent selection of bikes and bike hardware. Their other departments also seemed rather well-stocked. I liked that the employees were easy enough to track down because they stayed close enough to customers to seem available but not so close that they were overbearing. I also appreciated that no one pressured me into buying anything but just offered useful advice (you know, along the lines of, "Well, if it were ME that needed *insert equipment here*..."). It was a really helpful trip, as I learned a lot. The reason I can't give it 5 stars, however, is that everything seemed way too expensive. I was punching items into my iPhone to compare prices and it seems that they have a pretty high markup on everything. The bike rack I ended up liking was actually on sale on amazon.com for $10 less (and it was free shipping). However, the convenience of being able to return an item to a store and have a human being help you install something, instead of dealing with the waiting time of sending something through the mail and phone customer service, is sometimes worth the extra money.

Yelp
Yay REI East Hanover opened today! I drove by during lunch and saw several cars in the parking. It's kind of confusing because today was their first day, but their Grand Opening isn't until Oct 9-11th. Upon talking to the people who work there, it turns out that the GO corresponds to the national fall sale. Excellent. The store looks great. They did a good job utilizing the space, and the shelves are full right now. The sales folks are very helpful and approachable like many of the other locations. It's a great place to buy a tent because they help you set it up right in the store. Can't wait to go back during the GO! In case people are unaware, REI is a co-op. There are several benefits to being a member, such as the annual 10% back on all non-sale purchases. Their coupons for members are great especially for some brands that never seem to go on sale online (like Marmot). They also give a discount for members on tune-ups from their shop. Speaking of the shop - there's a list of things that you can rent there, like snowshoes. Oh last but not least - what sets them apart from most other sporting goods store is their 100% guarantee.

Yelp
I was recently disappointed by their selection of hiking shoes for women, but overall this is a great place for any outdoor enthusiast. They have every outdoorsy brand you can think of, and sections dedicated to specific interests... cycling, camping, winter sports, climbing, and hiking. We don't live anywhere near the store, so it's fun to take the trip to REI a few times a year to pick up a few things.

Yelp
I came wanting to get half of my sternum strap and half of my hip belt of my Flash 22 replaced but REI does not sell REI replacement parts. They sell other companies' replacement parts though. Instead, the family ended up being in the store for more than two hours trying on shoes and jackets and going through clearance and garage sale items. I found a pair of waterproof, fleeced lined, ankle boots for my mother. She also got a Northface fleece vest and a Northface jacket. My dad also got a Northface jacket and I picked up a Thermarest air mattress for $35.93. We ended up going to the registers three times because we kept seeing things we wanted. I was impressed with the garage sale and learned that people lined up as early as 4 am to get the bikes and kayaks, both of which sell out fastest. This REI also receives Soho's merchandise so their garage sales are larger than other REIs. They have the East Hanover police to provide added security and ensure decorum. There's a small section upstairs with clearance items as well as clearance racks scattered throughout the store. There were some really fantastic items for sale. Garage sales happen four times a year. The next event will be for Black Friday and will have winter related stuff only.

Yelp
REI has a huge selection of outdoors sporting items, and their staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have everything you could possibly need for a day trip, as we recently found out after wandering in there out of curiously before planning a hiking trip with the goods we scored. I'd definitely recommend looking into the membership, as it ends up being well worth the cost.

Yelp
Overall, I absolutely love REI. But I have to tell you about the last experience I had there. There's a younger guy who is a little over 6 feet, dark curly hair so is absolutely horrible. I overheard him calling this girl, very loudly mind you, dude about every third or fourth word while she was shopping for some hiking shoes. She was there with her boyfriend who was also verbally assaulted by this guy talking very loudly, pretty condescendingly, and consistently referring to them both as dude. It was almost to the point of absurdity. I prayed he wouldn't come over to me to help me with my purchase. After he was done verbally accosted these two young people in the store, he started interacting with another person who seem to be an employee there on their day off. He was clearly hitting on her and using every single curse word he could think of for some reason? Obviously trying to act cool. Then, I was at the front register and was purchasing a can of 8 ounce bear spray. Over the loudspeaker, they announced that I needed assistance unlocking one of the cans of bear spray. Unfortunately, he was the one that helped me and gave me about a 5 to 7 minute lecture on how to use bear spray, why I don't even need it, and basically berating me about buying in the first place. The advice didn't bother me, since he foamy know I'm an experienced thru hiker but it was his condescending tone that absolutely enraged me. It was condescending to the point of comedy. After minute six or seven I kind of didn't even want the thing because I didn't want to hear this guy anymore. I will probably never return to the store. Avoid this guy at all costs. The older guys know there stuff.

Yelp
When I first walked in I was overwhelmed. After talking to Will & James, I had a clue on what I needed. This place is a wonderland if you are into this stuff. From clothing to camping equipment, from maps to bikes. I bought the cadillac of sleeping pads, some hiking equipment and of course, the lifetime membership. Which means that I will be back frequently. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

Yelp
Went to this store for the first time today to get hiking boots. Had a really great experience and the man who helped me (Kurtis) was really helpful and super knowledgeable. Wanted to give Kurtis some credit!

Yelp
My husband and I just visited this REI location this weekend. As Spring is right around the corner, we wanted to update our outdoor lifestyle to accomodate our 10 month old. We spent over an hour here trying on infant carrier backpacks and toting our little girl, literally, all around the store to determine which one was the most comfortable for her and us. The salesmen were were VERY patient and knowledgeable.
