14 Best Men's Hiking Boots for Every Type of Trail

"Australia’s Outback is stunning country, but it’s rough, rugged, and filled with boulders covered in slippery gravel, so having a trekking shoe with a sturdy grip is essential. That’s why Tom Ludlow, a field guide for The Arkaba Walk, laces up a pair of Merrell’s Moab Adventure Mid waterproof hiking boots every morning. “I wear them at least eight hours a day, every day at work and on every Arkaba Walk, and they've held up incredibly well,” he says. “They're comfortable enough that I can wear them for the extended periods of time required at work, and yet robust enough that they can tolerate the terrain I frequently find myself hiking over with guests.”"

I had a great experience here tonight. Bing in footwear found me the exact shoes I had been looking for. He also took the time to explain different shoe styles to me including the benefit to each style. He also explained which shoes would be best for me and why. He took the time to talk to me not just as a paying customer but as a person. Great customer service, knowledgeable and kind staff, and product availability.

This area is amazing! It’s super easy to get to. The front entry is easy to find. Right when I walked in I found that they had a small garage sale going on inside. You can also find snowboards, bikes, backpacks, sleeping bags, socks, hiking gear, and much more. Every time I go to REI I wish that I had a $10,000 gift card to spend there because there’s so much good stuff. One of the things that I would encourage you to look for a darn tough socks they last forever. This location sells them. I also found that the staff was very friendly, and the restrooms are clean, which is a priority for me.

Google
Great experience. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. One of the staff, I think it was Alyssa, was exceptionally helpful. Thanks to her and the rest of the staff I got all the gear I need for my upcoming camping trip.

My Son bought a luggage rack here for $600. It was a wait to get help because they were busy but customer service was still great. They have everything for outdoor activities but the bikes caught my attention. Some are real pricey but quality is excellent.

Google
Purchased a new mountain bike and a kayak recently so I've had to come here a few times already for parts/accessories and such. They have a great selection of outdoor gear and cover all the outdoor activities throughout the store very well. I particularly like the bike section because they carry the most popular MTB items that riders are most interested anyway. Imo it seems they try not to source products that are produced so cheap. Quality seems to outweigh price here and thats ok with me bcuz id rather spend more for something that will last me a long time. REI does their in house clothing line very well to keep up with the seasons and current styles, clean cut looking style throughout their line. REI brand always pleasantly suprises me. You always expect store brands to be terrible but not theirs, at least not yet for me. Oh and the CO-OP Membership is definitely worth buying (lifetime $30) with all the savings and access to benefits its totally worth it for my situation! Thanks REI

Nelson Santin

Google
Called them up to see their price for break change on e-bike and after all said and done 30 minutes I’m out the door with new brakes, of course time is on how busy they actually are so it may take longer but excellence in knowledge and skills. No membership requires, but could save you money on the long ride!

Google
Nice place, staff was friendly and helpful. I've been wanting to go into an REI since I planned a week long camping trip awhile back. Lots of stuff to see and drool over. I think a lot of the items they sell are top dollar and often cheaper elsewhere though... They do seem to carry top of the line stuff however. I'll be excited for my next trip there, maybe I'll find something on clearance. Found a cool shirt I wish was cheaper.

Google
Great service at this REI! Super patient at the shoe department 😉 They have first hand experience with the tents, advid mountain bike riders, and staff that tries to help you get the best deals. No smug workers here, all friendly people of all ages and demographic 😊👍🏞

Yelp
.., as a regular I love coming here lol. It's definitely an adventurers guilty pleasure. Despite wanting to purchase everything in the store I've mainly purchased my footwear from here: Hoka's, Solomon, & as of today Altras. Service is always great here whenever I need help. I will admit I will run into someone who looks at me sideways from time to time. But it's usually from one of the workers I'd pass in the aisles, never from the employees I actually deal with when purchasing. I regret not writing a review sooner and giving recognition to my previous foot wear comrade, but when I see him again I'll make sure I update this review with his name. But as of today I had the pleasure of chatting it up with Andrew in the footwear department. Such a cool individual & member of their staff. We chopped it up a bit as my eyes scanned the walls for something that would catch my attention and sure enough they were caught. I had purchased my first pair of Altras, Low Peak model I believe. These shoes fit like a cloud. I love them & can't wait to put them to work. Thanks again Andrew, you are appreciated.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted a rooftop cargo box for our car. I ordered an inflatable one through the REI website. I chose the ship to store pickup option to avoid the extra shipping fee due its size. Once we got it, my husband didn't love it. We then exchanged it for a more popular hard shell one that we saw in store. I used to go to REI a lot more years ago, and I forgot I was a member. The membership includes other perks besides discounts and rewards on qualifying purchases. It includes free installation too. Even though my husband could have installed the rooftop cargo box, it was nice having two other people that have previously installed it. They installed it quickly. They were friendly and helpful with 5 star service. We were happy with our purchase, and it has been great for our long road trips.

Yelp
10/20/24 Swim fins are elusive since summer has passed, Big 5 didn't have them, neither does REI, sadly. Emily was gracious enough to point us to Big 5 (told her we were just there) and then she suggested Bass Pro shop by Victoria Gardens. This REI location is really best, well stocked & organized. Will surely return & check them out further should the need arise again.

Yelp
Would have given it 5 stars because usually everyone here is pretty nice, and the girl who helped me in the running shoe area was very kind! I even love the stores selection of items. But the reason for my low star review was because the employee who rung me up was very rude and would not take no for an answer when asking me if I wanted to sign up for the $30 membership. I understand that many businesses try to force the employees to sign people up for memberships or give the employees money for each sign up. But usually they just ask twice then if you still say no, they stop asking and finally let you pay for your items. But this guy (I didn't get his name, but to describe him he was an Asian American man) kept going around in circles for a good 5 minutes straight trying to force me to sign up for the membership. I literally said no about 5+ times yet this guy kept bugging, and keep in mind I was buying a $250 pair of running shoes, and literally was just waiting for this man to stop bugging me so I could put my card in to pay. It was annoying but what really annoyed me was when he started looking and laughing at me while I was paying, basically trying to act as if I was stupid for not buying the membership. I have never had this problem in the past at REI but I really hope they fire this man

Yelp
REI has made it so easy for me to take advantage of the outdoors. I buy all my snowboarding, hiking and rock climbing equipment here. I love that there are so many options for products. I became a member here and have benefited from free machine wax on my snowboard and also a year return policy on anything that I buy. The cherry on top is that the service has always been fantastic. Hope to keep coming back for many more years.

Yelp
Ed in footwear was great! Very knowledgeable and helpful with an overall great attitude- excellent customer service! I'll continue to come back for help as needed - Hope to see him around more as his expertise is needed - highly recommend him thanks team REI - outstanding!

Yelp
I stopped by here to pick up an online order. Parking is easy, and the staff were great. I ended up spending some time in the store looking around, and bought some stuff for my running. Prices are a little higher, but the quality of stuff is good and the helpfulness of the staff is great. I wish I lived a little closer to here so that I could visit more often.

Yelp
Terrible service here and misinformation given. Management mainly The manager Brad needs to do a better job training his staff. I drove 30 minutes to this location to return Vuori because they are listed as the retailer. It was given as a gift so I don't know where they were purchased but this is the nearest retailer to me. When I called I was told over the phone that I could bring the clothing back in for credit. I even said I didn't have a receipt but knew the brand was carried here. The young lady told me specifically that it was fine but could not get cash back. I was fine with that. Fast forward I go all the way down there and was told by an employee and a manager that wasn't the case. People call to save time and gas and these incompetent and poorly trained management and store staff have zero knowledge of their own policies. Don't waste your time coming here go to Bass Pro Shops. Better service prices and some integrity.

Yelp
Never in my life have I encountered a more pushy, pressure oriented store. A sales rep gave me the info regarding their membership, which I politely declined. When I got to the checkout with $300 in merchandise in hand, the cashier with the green Dodger hat pestered me repeatedly about the membership. After 4 or 5 attempts to get me to join, I told him if he kept asking I would leave. Undeterred, he kept pushing, so I told him "goodbye" and left the merchandise at the counter. Guess you guys would rather lose a customer and a sale then do what a customer asks. I will NEVER come back to REI. VERY POOR HIGH PRESSURE SERVICE.

Yelp
Little on the pricey side but they do carry mostly higher quality name brand gear. It's definitely a "city slicker" shop. Weekend warrior type place. I checked it out because I had a gift card. They have some great gear, nice selection. Employees are super helpful. I'd say if you are the type that wants to hit the great outdoors and are willing to pay more than most hardcore outdoorsmen would pay on gear but feel comfortable about it then this place is for you. If you're a true cyclist, kayaker, camper, climber, waterman, you already have your specialty shop and this store is more for browsing or killing time. Overall nice store.
google avatar

Yelp
It was me coming here in 2007 or 2008 that prompted becoming a lifetime member and buying hiking and climbing gear. At that time they had a large dedicated climbing section complete with a sample top-roping and scaled-down bouldering wall. How time and trends have changed! The only REI location smaller than this store is the one in Huntington Beach, but they still manage to represent quite a bit of the many lines by nane brands as they can. If you want to see a super-sized store visit the Tustin site. Nevertheless I've always found employees here to be helpful and have purchased my share of Smartwool socks over the years. Keep the store in mind for classes on camping and hiking tips. They're also a good place to get your bicycle tuned up and members can enjoy free flat tire repairs!

Yelp
Had a great experience today visiting REI. All employees were nice and friendly. Even while the store was packed full of customers. Special thanks goes out to Sophia and manager Brad for being over the top awesome! I am happy to finally be a member. Should have done it a long time ago. Look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Yelp
I've been a member forever! While I'm not a fan of their pricing system (charge high and then have credits applied to your account), I'm a big fan of their selection. For all round general outdoor gear, they have a pretty good selection. If you are you're a true enthusiast in your sport, then a specialty shop is better for you. Since I'm a jack-of-trades type of sports guy, this place works for me. If I'm waiting for my wife to finish shopping, I can easily entertain myself looking at gadgets I never realized I needed. Being here is a treat, getting here not so much. So we always arrive after their opening: lesser traffic and easier parking. And if we're done by lunch, there are plenty of restaurants in the area.

Yelp
We came to buy some backpacks for a upcoming trip. Tyler helped us out with choosing one that was perfect for us, and then several other people came by after to ask if we needed help as well. The staff here are definitely very knowledgeable and helpful. We were pleased with the selection, and how it was organized how we found everything we needed in one area.

Rosie G.

Yelp
This REI and their management is trash. They train their employees to not accept returns within the 1 year return policy. I've had that experience several times here. But then I take my return item to a different store and it is happily returned with no questions asked. These positive reviews must be fake.
google avatar

Yelp
I shop at REI often and the customer service is second to none. Not only do they carry the best stuff but just love the service you get and today was no exception. I'm looking for hiking boots and Timmy has been so helpful and kind and professional. Thank you again.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
I just want to say, I've been a big fan of REI for over a decade. They have a decent selection and the staff are very cordial, but their recent policy of NO BAGS has got me a little peeved! I'm sorry, but if I'm spends hundreds of dollars on equipment I want the option of at least purchasing a bag. Today I visited Bass Pro Shop instead of REI because they still offer bags for my purchases. Thank you Bass Pro Shop for putting the customer ahead of your political agenda.

Dhilan P.

Yelp
Jett was great! He was very helpful in the footwear section. He helped us find shoes that would be good for our daily life. He really is a great asset to the store. The store it self is also great with lots of items at great prices that really are worth their value.

Cora V.

Yelp
Love this location, have spent thousands in the last two months here on my business trips and family visits. Wendell was a tremendous help this time and helped me pick out the perfect dometic freezer/refrigerated chest. Unfortunately it wasn't in store but he went above and beyond and brought me a unit to examine from the back that was currently being used by the store for employees. It was exactly what I wanted and I went ahead and ordered at the front desk for ship to home. Wendell was courteous, helpful and patient. Don't care for the price of around 1200.00, but it is what it is and I needed it for an upcoming overlanding trip. Thank you Wendell.

Yelp
I stopped by today in preparation for a thru hike on the AT(April 24'). I was lucky enough to meet Daniel, he's a wealth of knowledge and helped me evaluate many gear options to lighten my pack weight (I currently could pass for a pack mule!). Although I didn't buy today I wanted to give Daniel a shout out for the knowledge he bestowed on me. We went over 60% of the things I need to replace before my adventure begins. As I left a co-worked asked if Daniel informed me of his trail name. I won't share it, but if you get Daniel helps you I suggest you ask him... Great experience at this REI!

Yelp
Best place to get outdoors equipment or anything for that matter. Who doesn't like REI

Yelp
Thank you, REI, for an awesome mountain bike. A special shout out to Lauren for helping us with my son's bike!

Yelp
Lots of choices. The service is very helpful. Prices tend to be a little higher but products are good

Yelp
Carlos does not pass the vibe check. I went in for some returns and to buy more gear for upcoming trip. floor staff was incredible as always except when i went to do the returns i was met with Carlos who was extremely judgmental and even threatened t membership be cancelled if i did too many returns - EXCEPT - ive done returns here before with zero issues. the other staff always encouraged me to try out their products w the then option to return if i was not satisfied so what the heck?? i just left after the return bc i was so turned off by the experience. felt bad for the sweet lady that helped me with the camping chairs and tables as well as the rumpl blanket. she was awesome! didnt end up purchasing more this trip bc carlos just straight ups sucks. ill go to a different location where i wont be criminally side eyed by the staff.

Yelp
I was really happy with my experience at REI yesterday! I planned very poorly and was leaving for Big Bear to go snowboarding but didn't have a snowboarding jacket so I was in desperate need of one. Luckily this REI had a small, but sufficient, ski/snowboarding section. I was able to find a really great REI brand snowboarding jacket. All of the sales associates were super friendly and helpful. I ended up signing up for the REI lifetime co-op membership because they're running a promo right now where upon signing up you get a $30 gift card. The lifetime membership is only $30 so it's free to join right now. There are a lot of benefits to joining so if you're considering it I recommend doing so soon to take advantage of this deal!

Yelp
The bike service department is super helpful. Every time I've come here it's service right away and friendly. Best shop !!!

Yelp
My sister and I came here because we wanted to buy new bikes aand weren't sure what would be right for us. Diego spent at least 3 hours with us exclusively and educated us really well on different types of bikes. He asked us important questions and really seemed invested in helping us in our journey. He told us he rides 100 miles 2x a week so we knew we were talking to someone knowledgeable and experienced. We loved that Diego didn't try to push and bikes or make a sale. He patiently answered our questions and made it his goal to educate us properly so even if we walked out of there without buying anything we could go to another store knowing exactly what to look for. In fact, he even gave my sister the names and directions to a couple of bike shops nearby. He took his time to fit us for the bikes (before we bought anything) and even called his lead, Alexa, over to help when he needed a second opinion on fitting. We got to test the bikes in the parking lot/ back delivery bay which was amazing. I was wearing flip flops so they even lent me socks and shoes to ride. The service here is simply unparalleled. We had brought a bike rack with us in case we decided to buy but neither of us knew how to use it so one of the shop guys, Mario, helped us out. They had a few color options in store for each bike, but also offered to order online and have it shipped to the store if we decided we wanted a color they didn't have available. We both ended up picking colors they had on the floor. Once we decided to get the bikes, they did a complete safety check on them while Diego walked us around the store teaching us about bike maintenance and telling us what tools we would need (multitool for seat adjustment, lube for chain, etc.). He gave us info about apps we could download to tell us how fast and/or far our ride was and told us what type of phone mount he prefers and why. We got helmets from a Walmart nearby as we arent planning to do any dangerous or super fast biking (just recreational) and didn't feel the need to drop $70 on a fancy helmet, especially since Diego mentioned you should replace your helmet every year. Note- if you buy from REI, get the membership! It is $30 forever and you get to return most purchases within 1 year if you don't completely destroy them. This is an amazing deal, especially because you get to try out the equipment in your home or area and figure out if it fits your lifestyle or if the amount you use it warrants the cost. Additionally, among the other perks of being a member, such as $20 giftcard you get right away & 20% off shop services forever, you get an hour of free service on the product before you take it home. For us, we decided to purchase $10 kickstand and have REI cut them and put them on for us, since the bike wheels have to be taken off and it is kind of complicated to attach the stand. Everything else we can probably do ourselves in time if we so choose (bike lights, water bottle holder, phone mount). Diego mentioned we might want to also change out the seats but due to the test ride we both knew we liked the seats and found them comfortable. I am super pleased with our bikes and excited to spend some sister time outside! REI staff is so incredibly knowledgable and we so so appreciated Diego simply educating us rather than being at all pushy about a sale. You can really tell how passionate he is about bikes-if you want to get into a new hobby or activity and need to learn more but are daunted by the sheer volume of info on the internet, try going to REI and asking some staff there. You will learn SO much!

Yelp
Had to come return a jacket that my husband got for me, and couldn't find the right size and color of the one I wanted. We spoke with the gentleman at the front desk and he refunded our purchase and ordered the correct one to be sent to our home. What I found helpful was that he knew a lot of information about the jacket that really made a difference to me in my choice. He informed me about the environmental awareness the company bases it's business off of, and some of the interesting facts that I'm sure I'd never know if I hadn't come in and made this exchange. I wish I remembered his name, if I go back and see him again I will be happy to make a quick update with his mention. Nice to have employees know their stuff and the products they sell!

Yelp
If you can get your gear elsewhere. They do not stand by their products. Look at other sporting goods stores first if you want a fair price.

Ja B.

Yelp
Epic REI Our experience was amazing! Trish was the best! She helped my husband with his two purchases. Trish is very knowledgeable with all the products and merchandise. Trish helped me with multiple purchases every time I came in. She remembered what I bought And helped me find other great shorts. Trish takes pride in her work and the store. You can see, hear and know she loves her job! We got to meet Weldon the store manager yesterday and I must say Weldon, your team really takes pride in their job, the store, and taking care of your customers! I recommend this store and all the team members for REI Rancho Cucamonga.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Throughout the years, I never came to this store often, just every once in a while for whatever the reason at the time and I hadn't gone in a long time lately. I now just recently got new bikes (ordered them online), so it's great to know that I've got a nearby place who services them! I joined the store's membership program because I already needed some minor work done on the bikes, which went smoothly. I think the one-time $20 is a fabulous price to get a lifetime membership for what they do. I even signed up for an upcoming webinar course. Regarding the bike accessories I was looking for lately, that's 1 star specifically for that. They don't have much of a selection (reasonably-priced bike helmets, bike computers, bike seats, storage bags, cup holders, pedals, and handlebars). I bought one thing that might have worked out, but it didn't so I returned them. The store itself is very nice, tidy, and a good size. The 3 employeees I encountered in my latest two visits this month once I approached them at the counters have been nice.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon to look at snowboarding gear. I'm in the market to buy snowboarding boots, so I wanted to try on different brands of boots to make sure they fit me if I were to purchase online. The sales associate was super helpful and very easy to talk to. He was an older fellow, very knowledgeable in snowboarding. He answered all my questions and gave me a lot of helpful tips on how the boots should feel. What I appreciated the most was that he took his time to help me. I was honest with him that I wasn't ready to purchase, yet he was still there and helped me try on different pairs of boots. He even helped me out with looking at boards too. This REI gets 5 stars from me just because of this sales associate. Thank you so much for your help!

Xavi G.

Yelp
My first time here so I looked around and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of things they had in stock. Everyone here was very kind and helpful. I didn't feel like nuisance or never got any attitude from the employees. Made me feel really comfortable shopping here, looking around at the gear, clothes, and trying stuff on. Sean was super cool and kind. The other customers were also very pleasant. Overall great shopping experience and I'm glad I came and became a member. I appreciate good customer service and this team definitely delivered it. Will definitely come here for all my outdoors needs. I can't speak on the customer service on the shoe department, since I didn't really go to that area, however.

Yelp
This has been one of my stores for 30 years. I have been to this location a few times but not recently, until two days ago. There and we had the pleasure of meeting Abby. She was very knowledgeable and gave us very good information. I used to go backpacking, and it was nice to have a refresher course on the new equipment. She also was very complementary of my teenage son, which he very much appreciate it. The cashier was also very nice. We will see everyone on Friday!

Yelp
*this is just a review for the bike shop* Brought my road bike here because other bike shops are weeks packed. Initially, I was just coming to get my front and rear derailleurs tuned (since my bike is pretty much brand new, just needed some adjustments) but I opted for the tune up package which includes derailleur adjustments, bike clean, etc. (might as well). When I got my bike back, I was already skeptical because they said they had to replace my cables (which were still new at this point), which added to the cost. I thought I'd test it for a quick ride in the parking lot before I left. Long and behold, my rear derailleur would not shift all the way and had a jumpy chain. I was very disappointed because I thought they would have the standards to run through each gear and make sure it works before handing it back to the customer. It seems like they rushed the job and didn't even check. Took it back into the store and they made some adjustments that made shifting work again (still some chain rub and chain jump, but it works). Also, bike clean was not thourough at all. There are still dirt spots scattered throughout the bike. Summary: if I want my bike to work quickly, I'll take it here. If I want my bike to work perfectly, i'd rather opt to take it to a legitimate bike shop (which I will in the future. Lesson learned). Love ya, REI but for my other recreation needs. Not for my cycling needs.

Yelp
Just went to REI on Wednesday to pick up some hiking boots (since it's one of the only things other than eating that I can do right now during this quarantine ). The process for curbside pickup was very easy and seamless. After you purchase online you'll receive a separate email letting you know that your order is ready (It took 1 day for me to receive the email). Curbside hours are 10am - 6pm. The email you receive explains how the transaction will happen. REI is helping keep us safe by minimizing contact for pick up. When you arrive you'll click on "I'm here!" and a team member will come out with your order. As they come out you'll raise your ID to the window and the employee will verify your order. It is placed on a sterilized cart and you can grab it yourself. Very safe and minimal contact ! Plus they have a great sale. Peep the boots I landed !!!

Yelp
Helpful staff and a variety of options for footwear and women's active pants, which I was shopping for. There were also some gently used items there when I shopped at decent prices. Will definitely shop there again. I bought some of the REI cargo pants-- they are so comfy.

Yelp
When your spending $500.00 in shoes and the sales person is acting as though they'd rather be elsewhere and not engaging...its not a good experience. Chad...it would be a good idea to look for a different job where it looks like you don't like your job! Most REI employees are helpful and eager to help...

Yelp
Just got my tubeless tires done on my EMTB by Mario, bike technician... Mario was very professional, friendly, and did great work... go find Mario in the bike area... He was cool...

Yelp
I came in yesterday to have my sister fitted for a new back pack. Lauren helped us get set up. She was super friendly and did a great job. This is the second backpack I have bought from them and have nothing but good things to say. Great store, they really do make it worth the trip in. Thanks to Lauren and REI I am looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Awesome store. Staff remembered our conversations from one visit to the next. They're always very friendly and helpful in finding whatever I'm looking for. Karen and Lloyd helped me find the only pair of Altras in store that were my size. Great store

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday morning close to opening time and to my surprise, there wasn't a line! The staff member at the door directed guests on where to go depending on what they needed. Inside the store, there were physical distancing stickers on the floor, the shoe section had a one way in and out flow, the staff were helpful and physically distanced themselves even when assisting guests, and they cleaned the pay pad with a new cotton ball with sanitizer after each guest! I felt very safe and was very impressed by their safety measures in place!!

Yelp
I went in to exchange a pair of boots, I didn't know what to expect or if I would be able to. Trisha helped me out consistently throughout my visit and was so nice and had great customer service. She went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I also was extraordinary impressed with Joanne in the footwear department, she walked me through the different boot options and helped me with the many questions I had. Her product knowledge and general hiking knowledge was very useful and she gave me a bunch of tips and tricks that will come in handy on the trail. There was another gentleman that helped me, maybe nick I don't remember his name but he was also great. Overall I'm never disappointed when I come into this store, the customer service is amazing every time. Give these people some raises!

Yelp
I called twice and was transferred to the shoe department. Both times I waited 5 minutes and no one picked up the phone. I called a 3rd time and asked for the manager. I was put on hold again, then the manager finally answered. I asked if they had hiking shoes in my size and she said no. I was surprised by this so I went to their store website and they had shoes in my size listed. I have had positive experiences with them in the past, but clearly they are having serious organizational problems now. Do they actually have shoes in my size? Who knows? They sure don't.

Yelp
A rather interesting visit to the store today around noon. I came into get a pair of either HOKA or Brooks shoes. I need them in 4E because I have wide feet. The first gentleman that I spoke to gave me a couple of options and went back to see if they had my size. When he returned. He said that he didn't have any of that type in 4E. Before I left I decided to go ahead and ask another question to see what shoes they might actually have in 4E. The gentleman that I spoke to before was not available so I was able to speak to a young lady. This is where things went south. I simply ask " What shoes do you have in size? 4E.". Now given, she may have been having a bad day or something else was going on, but her response to me which will not translate well here was simply an abruptly "None, We only have regular wide shoes". And then proceeded to walk off. I was actually stunned. Given this response. The other items that I had in my hands which included a number of shirts, sweatshirt, socks, etc. That probably told an excess of $800 all went back on the shelves. Customer service is your business. If you can't, take the time to check your attitude as an employee and simply respond, " I'm really sorry but unfortunately we don't care for ease in the store but they're probably available online if you'd like to look there. Is there anything else set up could help you with though?". You would have actually ended up probably having a fairly large purchase credited to your store. However, you've most definitely lost a return customer. If somebody from REI would like to respond to this to this, I will be more than happy to speak with you. The person that was rude was working in the Rancho Cucamonga store around noon on July 14th 2023. She was blonde and about 5 ft 5. Unfortunately I didn't get her name tag. The gentleman that was very helpful during this visit on my initial encounter was very tall and had a dark beard. He deserves a thank you. Thank you
