17 Best Restaurants to Eat in Uptown Charlotte | Eater Carolinas

"The third location of Reid’s opened Uptown this year to focus on more casual yet gourmet grab-and-go options for coffee cravings, breakfast, lunch, dinner (from wraps to build-your-own-salads), and dessert. Refrigerated and frozen items are stocked to grab as well. First thing: check out the avocado toast, the quiche du jour, or the customized breakfast bowl (add grits) to get the day going." - Katie Toussaint

The team at Reid’s Fine Foods on Trade St. is absolutely incredible! The chemistry between the staff is unmatched, you can feel their energy the moment you walk in. Even during the busiest times, they keep things running smoothly and absolutely kill it every single time. The food? Always fresh, delicious, and consistently top-notch. It’s clear they care about both their customers and their craft. If you’re in the area, this spot is a must-visit!

I stopped by Reid’s this past Tuesday for the first time since before the new year it’s been a while since I’ve worked uptown, so I hadn’t had a chance to visit. I’ve gotta say, it’s a noticeable improvement from what I remember. The space felt cleaner, more organized, and everything just seemed to run more efficiently. Definitely a positive change. Oh, and do yourself a favor and get the TBA....it’s absolute fire!

Google
Small sized but very high quality Reids foods. The other location is far far larger, but this one does have great foods.

Google
Great job on the breakfast bowl. Too much salt. And please stop cooking pork bacon on the skillet with Turkey bacon. I don’t want pork grease on my bacon. Eggs, don’t cook in oil, non stick pan please.

I had never been to Reid's before. It was lunch time, the place was packed, and there were three lines (salad, soup/sandwich and hot bar). I chose the hot bar, and the line moved quickly. The server was efficient, but helpful in pointing out the vegetarian options. His recommendations were good, and I enjoyed my cheesy-green bean entree, mixed vegetables and BBQ cauliflower sides. My sister had a large salad made to order, with fresh fruits.

Google
Checked out the new uptown Location today. Order was completely wrong but didn't realize until I got back to my office - no portobello, no roated peppers, no spinach, no cucumber, nothing spicy... instead romaine, tomatoes, cheddar cheese (?!), and loaded down with red onions, yuk. Don't have time to go back to get it corrected. You'd think for a $9 wrap they'd put a little more consideration into their work...

We had the pleasure of working with Reid's fabricating their beautiful store-front blade sign for their newest Uptown location! Excellent B2B transaction!

Google
Got a bagel to go this morning. Only my second time and the first was very nice. This time I got a day old (the interior was dried out), burnt bit of dough. I don't get my bagels toasted, and it's hard to pass an old bagel as fresh if it's not. Check your food carefully before you accept your to go order to make sure it's what you think you're getting

Yelp
I don't know why I bother, because y'all just don't listen good. I told y'all I need to know of all the good eateries in and around Charlotte and here I am sitting right on top of this one for 6 years. Reid's Fine Foods, uptown Charlotte. Wanted something different from my usual cheese, crackers and banana breakfast this morning and decided to journey out into the cold uptown streets. Found this place, ordered egg white, spinach, tomato and roasted red pepper on toasted English muffin. Where did they get a muffin this big! Had to eat with knife and fork, but it was delish. Happy hips!

Yelp
One of the worst experiences at such a classy establishment. The lady taking my order was so rude that I left before it was even placed.

Yelp
The food, service and staff are top notch! Every Ike I come in there they're welcoming and friendly.

Yelp
I've been to Reid's a few times and find it meh. The last straw was a Poppy's bagel (Poppy's, I hope you read this), which was undeniably burnt. I don't get my bagels toasted b/c why toast a wonderful bagel, so this wasn't the fault of the toaster. Add to that, this wasn't made hours ago, this was yesterday's bagel - the crumb was crumbly and dry, not like a proper bagel. Moral of the story? If you have to go to Reid's, make sure you open up your food and inspect it before you walk away from the counter.

Yelp
I had lunch at Reid's one day while in Uptown for work. This was a very busy day--not even noon--and they were packed. When I first entered, everything seemed claustrophobically chaotic. Lots of people were standing around, and I didn't know if they were in a line or just waiting for their food. But I did figure it out, and headed over to the sandwich line to order an avocado cheddar wrap. (The lines are separated for salads and sandwiches/daily specials.) Once I ordered, I found the line to pay for my food, and then proceeded to head over to the side to wait for my sandwich. All told, it took about 20 minutes to order, pay, and get my food. That's similar to my prior experiences at Newk's. And they do make everything to order. At $8.99, my wrap was on par in terms of pricing with other sandwich shops, and the quality was excellent. The green goddess sauce was delicious. The wheat wrap had fresh sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado slices, and shredded cheddar cheese. (I said 'no' to the red onions.) I happily ate every bite! They have lots of beverages available to purchase, and I was able to get my preferred Spindrift. I'll definitely return, and will go earlier to avoid the crowds.

Yelp
I walked here from over in Gateway Village to try a new spot for lunch during the week. Knowing how many options I would have, I looked at the menu online and pre-planned my salad so I wouldn't be overwhelmed when I walked in. I arrived shortly after noon and while there were many people in the store, there was no line for salads. I stepped right up to the counter and the gentleman who helped me was super friendly and efficient. All of the toppings were well stocked and appeared fresh. Your first choices are type of lettuce and then dressing (they're pre-portioned ready to go on the side in small cups). I enjoyed spinach and poppyseed dressing. I was pleased to find their poppyseed is not creamy like many are, but more of an oil base and is just slightly sweet. I also added chicken, beets, egg (diced up already), candied walnuts, goat cheese, and mandarin oranges. The attendant even made sure the amount of chicken he gave me was enough, which honestly I should've gone with less (my eyes were bigger in that moment). He promptly packaged up my salad, plopped it on the scale, and stuck a barcode to it. I then proceeded to go to the register to pay for my selection (just the salad) and it ended up being ~$13 (you pay by weight). While I usually go to Devon & Blakely across the street and pay less, the flavor and offerings at Reid's I found were better and the overall experience was less overwhelming for me so I think I've found my new spot!

Yelp
Cute little specialty dining store. Offers sandwiches, soups, salads and lots of snacks. Menu looked ok, comparable to the legacy Dean & Deluca or Devon & Blakely. Space is small but they made great use of it. Prices are reasonable, average for uptown. And they have macarons! And ice cream too! That always makes me smile. I'll have to see if anything sets Reid's apart from other specialty type cafes of its kind, but it's great to have options.

Yelp
Out of town from Cali and locals told us to go get breakfast at Reid's. It was literally 10:31am and she said breakfast is closed. I communicated I would give her a big tip and she still said no. No, Southern Fried Chicken w/biscuit? What we can we get Bojangles heyWhere's the southern hospitality? Where's the charm? They were not flexible. And to top it off there wasn't anyone in-line. We proceeded to order from the lunch menu. How many cooks does it take to make a TBA? Three chefs in the back and waited over 15 minutes. I highly recommend trying another establishment in Charlotte.

Yelp
I was excited to try the new Reid's in Uptown and I am so happy they moved to this new location that is so convenient for uptown workers! It is extremely convenient to get to Reid's from the overstreet mall, so on hot and rainy days you don't have to spend that much time walking outside (this may sound lazy but it's true!). It is just across the street from the Bank of America plaza. It was a little hard to find - it is located in the lobby of the 121 W Trade street building which has a gold awning. I got the Spiedies Chicken Salad Sandwich. It was a wonderful sandwich - extremely creamy and flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken salad that was on the sandwich; they definitely do not skimp on the contents! Everything was also extremely fresh and high quality. The reason I am giving this 4 stars is because my sandwich alone cost $9.37 and did not include chips or a side. If this would have included that I would have given this 5 stars. The atmosphere at Reid's alone is worth the trip because there are so many unique grocery items and desserts to see while you are waiting on your food. I can't wait to go back to get a cookie!

Yelp
I love this restaurant so much. The service is always impressive and the staff are efficient, professional and kind. They go out of their way to say hi and make my morning each day with with a smile. I order here frequently and I have never gotten anything I didn't like. Freshness, quality and quantity are always a 10/10 here. My favorite is the build-your-own-salad. There are so many options. The only complaint I can think of is that there has been 2 times where they did not have salmon in stock when I tried to order it. After working in the same building as Reid's for 2 years, that is the only "complaint," I can think of. This restaurant is a go-to for lunch during my busy workday. I will definitely continue coming back. Go Reid's!

Yelp
This is a cool little expensive market, obviously for the demographic, the store is in. I would only go here for something I couldn't find anywhere else, simply because I know the price would be ridiculous!!! Anywho, check them out!!!
google avatar

Rosa D.

Yelp
Went there to try out a breakfast sandwich. Got the chicken biscuit. It was nice and juicy with a southern style biscuit. Delicious. Will have to try their lunch next time.

Yelp
LOL this is labeled as "pricey." I went in expecting a $15 DIY salad and I scooted on out of there for like $10.00 (no drink, packed my own water). The salad station attendant was super friendly and made a great salad for me. The ingredients looked very fresh and their already prepared salads looked delicious if you need to pick something up on a Friday after work before the weekend. The cafe style seating inside the lobby area is quaint, and their patio area is actually quite large considering the small size of this Reid's location. The inside is definitely small and perfect for the grab-and-go option...but also why I have to give it 4 stars. I was really hoping Reid's would be a great [larger] addition to Uptown that would serve breakfast/brunch options on the weekend. This location has weekday-hours only. I'd definitely suggest, but still disappointed they are closed on the weekends.

Yelp
Reid's in Uptown is definitely one of my new favorite lunch spots! I got the chicken Caesar wrap and it was so great. My friends loved the caprese sandwich and Caesar pasta salad that they ordered as well. The location and outside seating were also a major plus! Would 100% suggest you stop by next time you're in uptown.

Yelp
Nice little local deli. This place was very crowded during the lunch rush but they quickly prepared made-to-order food and made it in and out during the noon hour. I'll visit this place again. Seemed very popular with locals.
google avatar

Chloe G.

Yelp
My coworkers and I decided to go back to Reid's for lunch, and it didn't disappoint! I had the Chicken Caprese sandwich and it was very refreshing for a warm summer day. It's such a cute environment to sit during your lunch break!

Yelp
So excited to have Reid's (back) in Uptown! I am also really pumped about the fact that they are serving breakfast. I popped in yesterday during their first day in business and was impressed by how well they were managing the crowds. I ordered a build you own breakfast bowl with eggs, potatoes, black beans, pico and cheddar and it was delicious despite the fact that they forgot the pico (cutting slack because it was their first day in business)! The eggs are so fluffy and it was a great portion. I would love to see them offer sides of salsa as well or hot sauce packets by the milk, sugar, etc. Iced coffee is a bit pricy, but it is cold brew. They have tons of the Reid's classic prepared items in the fridge, as well as their signature gift baskets. I am really looking forward to coming back to try a sandwich or build your own salad as a few of my coworkers got them for lunch and they looked great. They also added quite a few tables outside which is a great bc they are also shaded (plus umbrellas). Overall, awesome breakfast and lunch spot and even better for you last minute people who forget to get a nice gift for your lovely Admins!

Yelp
I love this Reid's!! Such a perfect week day lunch spot, with great soup, salad, and sandwich options. Plus, they have a great take home refrigerated section (chicken salad, soup, pimento cheese, casseroles) that are perfect to grab at lunch and take home to make an easy dinner after work. I will definitely be a regular!

Ellie J.

Yelp
Reid's is my new go to spot in uptown for breakfast and lunch!! Huge variety with the menu, something for everyone to enjoy! I've been for breakfast, lunch and even used Reid's to cater a lunch event! My favorite is the balsamic chicken caprese sandwich (pictured)! They also have great homemade dips that I will definitely try next time! Also the management and all the staff were AWESOME!! makes the experience better every time

Tim A.

Yelp
First off I would like to say the staff is some of the friendliest people you will encounter in your workday. They are the only reason why this rating isn't a 1. I have ordered a simple bagel with cream cheese several times with absolutely the same result. The Bagel isn't toasted and there is a very light dusting of cream cheese. I have started ordering my bagel "WELL DONE" and cream cheese on the side to get a normally toasted bagel and more than a knife tip of cream cheese. Even this doesn't really get the job done. I have also tried other breakfast options, and have experienced the same results. Undercooked food. Biscuits that are chalky and fall apart. Cold chicken... the list goes on and on. My suggestion is, find somewhere else to eat in the morning that can handle the simplist bit of instructions.

Yelp
Love Rieds! Awesome salads and sandwiches. Always have excellent service. We recently had them cater a corporate lunch. 5 star!!!

Aaron S.

Yelp
Breakfast is always cold (I've tried the burrito and chicken biscuit.) Chicken biscuit size and taste vairy each time product just very inconsistent. Burrito was wet, sloppy and fell apart after a couple bites.
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
I was really excited for this location because I love their other stores. I ordered a sandwich which without specific items due to dairy intolerance. I was one of just a few people in there, and my sandwich came with everything I requested to exclude. I pulled off the stuff that I can't eat, and the turkey tasted bad. I ended up throwing the sandwich out, and ate chips for lunch. At least the chips were good! I would try it again, but won't be ordering a sandwich again.
google avatar

Yelp
Reid's sell the most amazing cakes for any occasion! The caramel cake has been a winner for me. They always provide great service and have a very friendly staff! Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

CeCi H.

Yelp
I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon. While the sandwich was tastey, it was cold as can be. I think they make the fried eggs and breakfast meats ahead of time and I guess they just sit because they were cold. For a $6 breakfast sandwich, I would expect it to be fresh and hot and include much more bacon.

Yelp
One of my most reliable caterer's.... I met Nikki the Store Manager when she worked at Dean and Deluca and Once i found out Nikki was managing the Reid's location Uptown Charlotte i added their location to the firms list of approved caterer's. Our clients and customers love the food and the options, the catering is always on time, the food is always fresh and the customer service is impeccable. I can't say enough about the staff as well, the young ladies that deliver are always professional, polite and the setup always Impresses our customers and client. I'm looking forward to utilizing Reid's for many, many, more event.... 10 Stars to Nikki and the staff :)

A L.

Yelp
I love that we have a Reid's in uptown now for work lunches. They have really high quality food and the sandwiches are the best from this place

Yelp
I've been trying to find a real solid lunch spot for the days that I just refuse to go grocery shopping (sometimes days turn to weeks) and I've had several people tell me I had to check out Reid's Fine Foods (it's also a hop, skip and a boogie away from my office). So after refusing to buy some groceries in anticipation for an upcoming weekend trip I decided it was time to take the dive and rip some of this Fine Food of Reid's. A few tips and tricks if ordering for your first time, 1) Order Online (You get 20% off your first order which I whole heartedly took advantage of) 2) Order about 10-15 minutes before you're expecting to pick it up 3) Order the pressed cajun turkey wrap because it was GD phenomenal. This wrap didn't make my mouth stop watering until 24 hours later after I had to utilize several towels to clean up all the drool that I had produced. The service was great and I plan on boogieing my way down the block for some more of that delicious cajun turkey.

Abbey D.

Yelp
I put a large last minute order in for Christmas desserts that needed to be ready for me by the next day and Nikki from catering was exceptional. Not only did she work with me and my time frame, she also made sure everything was perfect! Her customer service was phenomenal. It's always a pleasure to meet people like Nikki that make me want to come back!

Meeza D.

Yelp
So I work quite close to Reid's and have tried a few items from the menu, many of which didn't meet my expectations. My first sammich was the Salmon BLT, very, very messy and not too much flavor. Next I tried the bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon, apparently I enjoy salmon!!. The bagel was hardish, more so then a bagel should be, the cream cheese had what I guess was dill in it and the Salmon was cut into sticks!!! WTH is that about!!! Geez, even the bits and pieces I pick up at the grocery store are not mangled like that. There were no onions or capers that came with the bagel, so I most likely won't be getting that again. I've also tried 2 of the lunch specials. The lobster roll, not worth the price by any stretch of the imagination, had overcooked lobster with the spindly lower claw section in it, sadly it lacked flavor and house made kettle chips. The burger special has very tasty meat and truffle fries, the fries are more hard then crisp. I'll go back for the burger but the rest, nah.

Tara F.

Yelp
Way overpriced! I got a$10 salad that didn't even have any protein in it and it was ALL lettuce. The other ingredients I chose were hard to find. Spend your lunch money and time elsewhere.

D H.

Yelp
Quality ingredients and I realize you pay more while uptown but you shouldn't be prompted to tip at checkout. WTH?

Lauren S.

Yelp
Reid's is my new favorite Uptown lunch spot! The outside tables are so perfect for quick break from work, plus they are shaded. I tried the Chicken Caprese sandwich and it was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu! Definitely recommend!

Conor F.

Yelp
Reid's has great food with multiple options for breakfast and lunch. The workers were so friendly in helping make a decision. Great place highly recommend and will be going back!

Eleanor W.

Yelp
Wow!!! Not only is their food incredible, but the decor in this new location is stunning! I love this quick little spot to grab anything from avocado toast to an iced coffee or sandwich, salad, you name it! Definitely THE new lunch spot in uptown. You won't be disappointed!
