Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais (Siena, Tuscany) 9 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not the newest idea under the sun, but when done with even a modicum of skill, a Tuscan country estate hotel is unlikely to raise many complaints. And at Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais there’s much more than a modicum of skill on display. This 14th-century villa, on a hillside overlooking the city of Siena, has held tight to its many historical charms, even as it’s modernized in all the areas that count — while the rooms show the signs of a keen contemporary decorator’s eye, as you roam the hallways and the grounds it’s just about possible to imagine yourself a fourteenth-century nobleman (or noblewoman, who are we to say?)." - Tablet Hotels

Amazing, unique location. Service to match. Excellent from start to finish. We were rained out of southern Italy, and made a spontaneous dash to Tuscany. Fortunately this hotel was the only one with a room available. Everything about it exceeded our expectations. The buildings, the food and bar service, the concierge assistance, and very helpful front desk - frankly blew us away with how wonderful everything was! Highly recommend!

Beautiful hotel in a great location overlooking Siena. It doesn't have a particularly lively vibe but other than that, it's wonderful. It has a grown-up feel to it, but the waiting staff at dinner were great with our toddler. The family pool is really good and was mostly empty when we were there. The grounds are also really lovely. We stayed two nights and could have stayed for a lot longer.

My unforgettable days of travel in Italy are connected to Borgo Scopeto! I never imagined I would feel and utter "Dolce Far Niente" in my life, but in this magical environment, time stands still, and every person, from the reception to the sommelier, genuinely cares about your happiness. I will return many times; the chef's unforgettable flavors, amazing wine, beautiful surroundings, and the autumn sun will bring me back. Special thanks to everyone for providing an unparalleled service experience. However, the most special thanks go to the hotel's General Manager, Simone Marigliani, who guaranteed the quality of every minute we spent there. Immense respect to the entire team; I am so impressed, I honestly find it hard to find the right words to describe my feelings. Despite my extensive travel experience, this was the only place where I was in a continuous euphoria of pleasure. Thank you.

Spent part of our honeymoon at this resort. It was gorgeous and the staff was very warm and kind. Food and wine were exceptional. Spa was OK. One note is that there are limited food options, which are very expensive, and it is 50 Euro to take a cab into town. If you're looking for dining variety and don't have your own transportation, this might not be for you. If you want a high quality, luxury experience, you'll have a wonderful time.

My husband and myself have stayed at this beautiful hotel over several years before lockdown. I visited last week for lunch with my daughter, when we were driving through, and I was very excited to introduce her to this amazing hotel, which I used to call “my little peace of paradise”.||What a change! Whilst the actual hotel/grounds remain exceptional, what has deteriorated is the staff. We were not made welcome by the reception staff, nor the restaurant staff. It felt like we were just a transaction - no warmth or real welcome. They looked miserable and we were made to feel like we weren’t welcome. When I asked if we could have a table for lunch, I was advised by reception of course and what was my room number. When I said we weren’t staying, just passing through and wanted to enjoy the delicious food previously encountered, the response was that they would need to check if a table was free. As it turned out there were only 3 tables occupied, including ourselves.||Whilst the food was average, the restaurant manager spoke down to me about a dessert I sent back and made me feel uncomfortable.||When I enquired about purchasing their beautiful face cream which I have used many times before, I was advised I couldn’t purchase this from the hotel reception (as previous) and instead I was directed to the spa. But when we arrived it was locked. We waited and eventually a man did open the spa, but it was very hard work trying to purchase some face cream as the man did not appear to have knowledge of the products.||In the end I purchased wine, face cream, olive oil and balsamic vinegar to take home as these have previously been outstanding and I am sure they still will be.||However, the Borgo Scopeto was nothing like I remember from previous years. It has made me sad. I am not sure what has happened.

There should be a higher rating than 5 stars for experiences like this. This exquisite Hotel (that word seems inadequate) sparks great joy, relaxation, exuberance and fondness. We came for our 37th wedding anniversary and fell in absolute love with the place. Situated in their own vineyards and olive groves, with the garden of herbs and vegetables supplying the phenomenal kitchen there cannot be a better place in all of Tuscany. The sommelier was particularly stand out for his knowledge, style and grace in recommending wine pairings and educating us to the local wines, mostly featuring the San Giovese grape. But don't let me tell you, come and experience the calm and joy of Borgo Scopeto yourself. You will be transformed like we were.

Our family’s this trip this past summer culminated in the Tuscan countryside at this absolutely amazing resort. The food, wine, location and service were perfect. In the few days we were there, we became familiar with some of the staff. Luca and Nicolette and Virginia to name a couple made our trip that match better. They were so helpful in coordinating transportation, selecting the best bottle of wine, and connecting with the Italian culture. We are already talking about when we are heading back.

A charming resort hotel that offers wide grounds to explore, every turn is a photo- opportunity. We came for a wedding that closed off the whole hotel for the event - most impressive was the abundant staff at hand to cater to our every need, including obtaining the iron and board and Handling Luggage quickly. Well -appointed breakfast with good variety . Easily could have stayed 2-3 nights without getting bored. The Banquet dinner service was a bit slow exasperated by the chilly nighttime temperature. Only suggestion is to provide heat lamps in those situations 😚

Yelp
My niece and I went to Borgo for a massage and we loved it. The pool, grounds, decor and massage was all top notch. Shout out to "Nicoletta" who was so gracious and knowledgeable, she gave us a tour of the property and shared some restaurant ideas for us to consider in Siena. We were happy with our spa selection! relaxing and enjoyed a cocktail poolside before our treatments!

Yelp
Everything is top notch. If you are looking for the quintessential Tuscan villa - stop looking and call Borgo Scopeto Relais. Located just a few minutes from Sienna, Borgo Scopeto Relais is the ultimate Tuscan villa. It expertly blends hundreds of years of Tuscan history with five-star, state-of-the-art resort treatment. You will feel like Italian royalty from the moment you check in. Walk around and soak in hundreds of years of history - on your way to the top-end resort pool!! We stayed in one of the standard two-bedroom villas and were blown away by the spacious accommodations and mind-blowing views. Anyone who has travelled through Europe over the summer knows that air conditioning is hard to find. At Borgo Scopeta, we blasted ice cold AC like stereotypical Americans. La Tinaia is the resort's feature restaurant and seats guests both inside the villa's historic wine cellar and outside under the villa's largest tower. Breakfast is included and provides a delicious assortment of cold pastries and warm dishes. As delicious as breakfast is, dinner is where La Tinaia shines. The restaurant's finest dish is the Cinta Senese, a classic pork dish borrowed from neighboring Siena and dating back hundreds of years. Finally, don't miss the regular evening wine tastings in the villa's cellar. The curated tasting of local wines was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Yelp
AVOID at ALL COSTS There is way too much goodness and kindness in Italy to tolerate the poor service, bad wine and terrible food How Borgo Scopeto Disgraced & Humiliated me, my family, Friends & Relatives at My Son's Wedding The disrespectful, unprofessional and verbal abuse that the Hotel Borgeto staff (specifically, GM Francesco Ferruzzi) consistently exerted over multiple days ruined a wedding celebration that is impossible to correct in my eyes, and that of my family and of all the wedding guests who had to observe the scene. The lack of sympathy, empathy and general business acumen of providing a high level of service to a person and family whose son was being married is astonishing. I (and many family members and wedding guests who travel from the U.S. and Europe) will forever have a tarnished image of the wedding. This vulgar experience from GM Francesco Ferruzzi will taunt me for the rest of my life and it is irreversible. Due to character limitation I will skip to checkout day - Monday June 5 At Approximately 1PM I "Checked Out' of the hotel with this clerk. The clerk in the photo provided me with the following receipts below. I offered my AMEX card and she responded that it was taken care of. I asked if I needed to sign any thing and she replied no. I took back my AMEX card and the receipts and assumed I was checked out of the hotel. Note, I sat in the lobby, across from reception for 1 hour and no hotel approached me about the checkout process. My Possessions Were Taken Without Permission My Room (125) Cleared Without Checking Out or My Permission - Thousands of Euro's of wine thrown out and a portable speaker - Staff denies and suggests I am "lying Contacted Front desk at 11AM abut 6 bottles of missing wine and a missing portable speaker I alerted the hotel staff at the desk that I was checking out (with my wife, adult children and grand children) and my vans were arriving at 2PM to take my family, children and grand children and to resolve the issue BEFORE departure Incompetent GM Francesco Ferruzzi Intervened and alleged that I was lying about the missing wine even thought the staff recovered some empty and full bottles and FOUND the "missing" speaker. At Approximately 12PM, I approached the front desk (after speaking with them earlier on the phone about my other room (Room 125) being completed cleaned and all contents removed without my approval and without me "checking out of the room". At Approximately 12:30PM, I approached the front desk for the 4th time (after speaking with them earlier on the phone (twice) about my other room (Room 125) being completed cleaned and all contents removed without my approval and without me "checking out of the room". At Approximately 1:30PM the GM Francesco Ferruzi of the hotel approaches me at reception. Mind you this is a public location and many wedding guests are checking out. The GM Francesco Ferruzi asks me, "what's your side of the story". I explained the chronology of events outlined in the previous slides to which he replies, how do I know you are telling the truth? Never once does he apologize. The GM Francesco Ferruzzi never once apologized to me but embarrassed, humiliated and degraded me in-front of wedding guests in main reception area. The GM Francesco Ferruzi does not acknowledge that the staff entered my room before I checked out and removed all of my personal contents (wine and speaker) Nor does the GM Francesco Ferruzi acknowledge that the hotel staff said they did not take my portable speaker but it later appeared. Nor does the GM Francesco Ferruzi acknowledge that the hotel staff said they did not take my wine but some empty bottles and 2 unopened bottles magically appeared. Nor does the GM Francesco Ferruzi acknowledge that I had, in my possession, hotel documents that the front desk gave me when I attempted to check out but the staff failed to follow proper procedure and run my AMEX card. Instead, the GM waited until the 2 transportation vans arrived (which I informed the hotel staff would be arriving at 2PM) for our departure but GM Francesco Ferruzi called the police and locked the front gate and delayed our departure -- for all the wedding party in the hotel lobby to observe. He's a real class act. I am have dual citizenship (US & Italian) and GM Francesco Ferruzi embarrasses me as an Italian

Yelp
The Borgo Scopeto is a tail of two experiences... customer service that is excellent and customer service that is complete crap. On the positive side the restaurant stage especially Andrea mare exceptional as well as the concierge staff. The director of the rooms however is completely customary service tone deaf starting with no empathy for those of us (at least half a dozen rooms) who were baking in our rooms and the refused to consider switching on the air conditioning system. They claimed they didn't know there would be a heatwave even though news gave at least 5 days notice. Yes it would take 5 hours of work but well worth the making a numerous guests comfortable. Just pure laziness and definitely not what a premium hotel should be offering. I certainly don't accept the "it's just the way the do things) since we were in an older hotel that had AC already available!

Yelp
Excellent remote oasis. High-quality service. Suggestion for the wine tasting: offer preferred wine selection from Vineyard and ways to purchase. Olive oil was fantastic, but there no clear way to purchase and ship to the US.

Yelp
I brought a group of 40 travelers here and in short, the grounds and scenery are lovely, but the bedrooms feel like a pensione. Way too expensive for a hard mattress, cheap towels, and ants in your room. The staff isn't lovely or accommodating. There were a few standout staff members (Andre from the wait staff), but overall they were haphazard and cared little about patronage. The worst staff member was the bar tender who was annoyed by serving customers and incompetent in service. I will not bring any friends back here.

Yelp
This is a wonderful hotel. We stayed in a separate villa with our children and they were very accommodating and helpful. The grounds and hotel are immaculate, the staff was helpful and kind, the food was superb. We ate in the restaurant on the grounds for every meal. The tables are outside with sweeping views of Tuscany. Our children enjoyed bowls of pasta, ham, veggies, but particularly loved the morning buffet. We swam in the pools, went to Florence and Siena for the walking tours and took a trip to the go-cart track (the track was not a highlight for us, cars were not very good and had hours different then in their site) We will definitely be visiting the Scopeto again! Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation!
