Where to Stay and What to Do in Nine Rome Neighborhoods | Eater

"A small hotel set in a 900-year-old convent that retains rustic charm and a secluded-feeling interior courtyard while being conveniently close to central neighborhood attractions." - Natalie Kennedy

We loved our stay at Relais Le Clarisse! The location was perfect, right in the heart of the charming area in Trastevere, Rome. Easy to explore on foot and close to great restaurants. All of the staff were kind and helpful. Antonio and Sofia were very patient with my Italian, but fortunately their English was impeccable. The beautiful garden was such a peaceful spot to enjoy breakfast. Breakfast was very good and had a lot of healthy options. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the room was delightful. Knowing the hotel was once a convent made it all the more enchanting. We would definitely stay here again.

Having stayed here several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, we had high expectations. However, Le Clarisse a Trastevere has undergone a similar decline to the neighbourhood where it is located.||Trastevere has become a homogenized and mediocre area now and has lost much of its character. Similarly, Le Clarisse has lost much of its charm. The location is still good and the staff pleasant but before we even arrived, we were deluged with emails about their new electronic entry which quite frankly is a disaster. The way the emails are framed is also quite off-putting. The need for a smart phone to gain entry to the building and room is completely unnecessary and frustrating.||When we arrived we were greeted quite pleasantly by the staff, and the hotel is physically much like it was on our first visit: lovely courtyard, good breakfast nook, older rooms that have been updated and the convenient location. However, the rooms are not spacious and this time we kept bumping into things in the bathroom and the room itself because of a lack of space. Toweling off after a shower each day involved leaving the bathroom to use an alcove in the entryway. Little details like the TV not working (not a big deal as we were out enjoying Rome most of the time but still ...), no alternative to the tiny elevator to get to our room (no stairs?) and the lack of a presence at the front desk at night, did not make for the happy stay we had anticipated. To make matters worse, each day street vendors peddling various items now set up shop in front of the hotel. This is not what you'd expect of a good hotel. While not necessarily their fault, this really downgrades the experience. Finally, the reserved car to the airport which we had the front desk book in advance never showed as the reservation was somehow messed up.||Any one of these issues wouldn't be enough to both me, but when you add them all up, this is just disappointing. Sadly, we will probably not stay here again.

This is an interesting property with a lot of potential. The room we had on the street side was very noisy and we had to keep the window closed, even tho the weather was good outside. We could also hear everything in the hallway and even people speaking loudly inside nearby rooms came through loud and clear. The electronic app used to access rooms is awkward. It works fine, but its not intuitive and if your phone dies.... The wifi is very hard to access, as well. And it kicks you off a lot. We just used mobile data the entire time because the wifi was so difficult. Room was good otherwise. Interstellar and had everything we needed. Bed was comfortable. The little loo paper squares are awful but there is a bidet. The courtyard and breakfast are winners. Location is fab.

We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The location is great. We visited Rome during the day and returned to our rooms to shower. The location is full of great restaurants, shops, places to sit and people watch. The breakfast was enjoyable and even the pickiest eater in our family was sated. The courtyard was a treat and even prettier than the photos. The staff was friendly and professional. The rooms vary in size and some family members felt some rooms were too small for all the luggage they had for their upcoming cruise.

Our first night was spent in a room so small and dark it was horrible. We paid over €200 per night! We were told they could give us a different room for our next 2 nights. The gardens and balcony rooms which were advertised were in a different building. The room was booked 9 months in advance. The breakfast was inedible. Luckily we found a bakery down the road. They refunded €30 for 3 breakfasts.€700 for 3 nights! Not good enough. Zero care factor.

Hotel is walking distance from good restaurants. Two excellent cheese and bakery shops within a block of hotel. Breakfast is very basic. Rooms on outside of hotel, near street are not good and door system to enter these rooms is horrible

We booked here last minute after an air bnb ghosted us, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because this place was fantastic! We arrived a bit stressed and dishevelled and the guy manning the front desk could not have been kinder to us. The hotel itself is clean, tidy and perfectly appointed with a nice garden between the reception and the rooms. The location is in the heart of Trastevere and also excellent for exploring the sights of Rome. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience

This hotel is in an Historic building in a Great location with friendly helpful staff. ||We stayed in a courtyard suite, Rosa. It was spacious and oddly laid out ( historic building) accessed from the courtyard but there was no view into the courtyard. The room had a desk space and a couch/bed in a nook. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean and everything worked. The breakfast wasn’t great. There was choice but the quality was poor. The juice was out of a machine but the coffee was fine . ||Access to the hotel and your room after 8pm is via an app. An increasing trend that makes me nervous in case it doesn’t work and means you have to bring your phone everywhere with you. ||The hotel is in a good location and is a peaceful oasis out of the busy Roman streets. Trams stop close there is a taxi rank across the road| the

Yelp
Charming hotel in a great, central location in Trastevere. We booked a suite with a garden view which was located on the first floor. The hotel has a small but nice garden in the center portion of the building with lots of chairs and tables where you can sit and relax, have coffee or breakfast, etc. Our room was spacious and the bathroom had a shower and a jacuzzi tub. The bed was comfortable enough and they provided plenty of pillows. The pressure in the shower wasn't the greatest and the toiletries were minimal, I wish they provided hair conditioner and body lotion. Also no robes or slippers were provided which is unusual especially when booking a suite. There's a safe in the room and they provide a complimentary smart phone which you can use while going around the city for data as well as local calls. They don't have blinds on the windows and the curtains don't entirely block out light. The windows in the room aren't sound proof and since they're facing the garden, we could hear the noise and chatter of people congregating in the garden late at night. The breakfast was small but adequate providing eggs, ham, cheese, breads and some pastries, fruits, yogurt and cereals. The best part though was the coffee machine which made the best, really strong cappuccino with a nice thick creamy foam. This machine made much better espresso coffee drinks than did some attendants at other hotels. They also offered trays in case you want to take your breakfast to the room. There was a tram stop less than a block away from the hotel, as well as a taxi stand just across the main road. The hotel does arrange transportation if needed (a private car to the FCO airport is 50 euro, a taxi is a flat fee of 48 euro). The entire staff was very nice, friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This is a decent, clean hotel with a wonderful staff. OK breakfast, not memorable but Italians always know how to make a great coffee. Bathrooms small, sheets clean, comforters from another century. Good location. Good price.
