Relais Louis XIII

"This edifice, steeped in history, stands on the cellars of the former Grands-Augustins convent and it was here on 14 May 1610, an hour after his father King Henry IV had been assassinated, that Louis XIII learned that he was the next king of France… The memory of this rich heritage lingers on in the ornate dining room which sports half-timbers, bare stone, wainscoting, stained-glass and wall hangings, although the profusion of heirlooms is set off by a few cutting-edge details (glazed cellar, modern sculptures). The setting with a sense of occasion is the perfect foil to the food of chef Manuel Martinez, an ardent champion of Gallic culinary classicism. After training at Ledoyen, the Crillon and the Tour d’Argent, the Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman of France) decided to settle in this prestigious establishment to pursue high-flying French culinary traditions. Enduringly popular with regulars, in particular for the excellent eater-friendly lunchtime prices!" - Michelin Inspector

Just amazing!! We loved it . Absolutely delicious food and very warm experienced service . The chef came out couple of times to make sure we were happy with the food. We had the 3 course menu which actually ends up being 5 courses as the chef adds couple of small complimentary dishes. Must have is the ravioli foiegras as entree, and millefuille for dessert. We had cordon blue and steak for main. Both were delicious. Wine was great and fairly priced. I would go again.

We just had a lunch here to celebrate our anniversary but were hugely disappointed by the service mainly due to the lady manager (saw other reviews saying she’s the chef’s wife). She gave us an embarrassing look when we decided not to have wine for lunch, whispering as she left our table. When I was having the second dish, she came and advised me that I should use a spoon instead of a fork to eat, hinting that I lack the knowledge of dining etiquette at a Michelin-starred restaurant. She also randomly opened another bottle of sparkling water without consulting us, and did it not long after my French husband told another waiter that we will wait and see if we want another one. Not sure if she also does this to other clients. Overall the food was good, the rest of the waiters were fine. But I would not go back and would not recommend this place to anyone. I’m not someone who’s extremely picky about the service, especially here in Paris, and my husband also works in the hospitality industry, he too was appalled by the service. I would never come here again. If you want Michelin stars level service, go somewhere else.

We ordered the 8 course dinner menu. Food was ok but not sure if it's worthy of 1 Michelin star. Service could be better for a fine dining. We had 1 good waiter that tried his best to explain all the dishes but others seemed too cool to serve us. Worst thing was, we were cramped into this small corner with a big cracked-looking wall next to us. We had minimal leg room and the chair of the person sitting on the next table was basically touching our table which made it hard for us to get in and out of our seats.

Edit: my flight back to sf was delayed so I decided to eat here and give it a second chance. (Changed from 3 to 4 stars) Food Presentation was very fancy and I can see that the chef certainly put a lot of mind to it, but the actual taste of food was maybe better than average at best. They had a very large selection of wines and champagne though. They gave us a few starters (soup and something like eggplants on crackers) and complimentary bread. I had the fried foie Gras, beef filet (steak?), and cheese plate while my daughter had the sea bass, lamb shoulder, and mango tartlet. Foie gras was pretty good, a little surprised they didn't devein it. Beef filet was definitely above my expectations, very juicy and cooked through evenly. But it's  too salty for my personal tatste, so salty that it overshadowed any aromas from the meat and the shallots, which are supposed to carry a really strong aroma. Supposedly hanger steak is a very flavorful cut, plus the veggies on the side, somehow I didn't feel any aromas.  At first i thought it was tenderloin because the texture looks like it, though it had way more tendons, so i asked waiter what cut it was. Due to language barrier he pointed to his waist and vertebrae,  so i thought he meant surloin. But after checking a google translation of the menu i learnt it was hanger steak. So the waiter does not seem 100% knowledgeable about steaks. (I'm kind of a steak fanatic) Cheese was honestly very average, the cheese at my company's  salad  bar might be better 🤔. Sea bass was really salty, came with a lot of olive oil, but otherwise fine. Lamb shoulder was good but nothing remarkable, could have found one in the states for way less and better quality and taste. Mango tartlet was interesting - had gin jelly and biscuit was crunchy. Service Waiters were nice, explained some info about the food, recommended good wine. For some reason I was seated right next to the entrance when there were a bunch of other tables available... Atmosphere Dimly lit, 19th or 18th century building, gives date night vibes. Restaurant is essentially a small room with maybe 10-15 tables max + kitchen, wine cellars, upstairs Overall very solid, very affordable Michelin restaurant, good food but not extraordinary, definitely paying for the experience. Bill came out to 310 euros for two people. [note that the last photo was PS'ed, I changed the red source to yellow, apparently Google image model considers that as blood and says it's "not compliant to policy" :) stupid robot]

This review was in 2017. I went here with my friend for lunch. Excellent everything!!! Everyone was very friendly and the food is perfect. wine pairing was fantastic. I came back in 2023. This time for dinner. We had the suprise menu with 6 dishes. We ordered wine separately and didn't ask for pairing. We had a great experience. Everyone was very attentive and nice and the chef came out to greet us. We had such a lovely time. The food was of course amazing as usual. The staff recommended wines that paired really well with the dishes. We are glad we were able to get in a last minute reservation for dinner.

This place was awesome; highly recommended. The Lunch menu is very good value for money. I recommend the millefeuille and the duck. ------------ Update: March 2025. I went again to the Relais of Louis XIII and the result was the same: fantastic. Unfortunately they don't offer the duck anymore, but the food and service was outstanding again. Starters: ravioli with foie gras and lobster. Fantastic. Second: beef with pomme Dauphine. Great, perfectly cooked Dessert: millefeuille. Well, potentially the best in Paris? Probably. Bread, butter and aperitif. Very good. Looking forward to going back again.

Our whole experience was excellent! We were right 20 minutes late for our reservation due to a traffic accident (not us), but the staff was happy to accommodate us. All the staff was very friendly and welcoming, even the head waiter who teased me when I tried to order a prosecco - "Madam! This is France, we have champagne here!" My friend and I did the 6 plate tasting menu and enjoyed everything. Personally I thought the star of the meal was the seabass quenelle - I never would have chosen it on my own, but I'm so glad it was included because it was delicious! (Like a super fluffy rich gefilte fish) While other Michelin started restaurants are more modern and artsy I really enjoyed the classic feel of this place and the history in the decor. It was refined but felt relaxed. 10/10 would recommend 👍

Google
Such a top level experience from start to finish. Each dish was cooked and seasoned to perfection and I was very happy to experience some classic French dishes in this place. The interior is soothing and intimate, and the service is attentive and polite. The wine recommendations by the staff were extraordinary, they played perfectly with the food.

Yelp
Oh. My. Goodness. I honestly don't know how this places doesn't have more stars (Michelin and Yelp). Last I checked, this had 1 Michelin star in the latest guide, but I think it deserves at least two. We did the tasting menu and had absolutely phenomenal dishes. The chef truly knew how to use strong umami flavors and his specialty was clearly super savory dishes. This was definitely a feel good meal, with foies gras and lobster ravioli, or the fish mousse quenelle. The food is extremely delicious. Now, I will say it wasn't necessarily as creative as say Le Cinq or Arpege was, and due to the small nature of the restaurant, the service and the ambience isn't as grand as a few other restaurants around town, but it's a great, cozy place with feel good food.

Yelp
Really mixed feelings here, and this is a Michelin-starred restaurant so that complicated it a bit for me. Let's start with the good news: The food is outstanding. From the amuses-bouches to start to the pates-a-chous served at the end, the food delivers. The chef even came out when we arrived to welcome us, despite it just being a regular Thursday service. The service timing and plate delivery is superb, and the staff can be all smiles. Bad news: We were made to feel guilty that our party had mixed desires. Some of us wanted a single a la carte dish, as they could not stay very long, while some of us wanted a different tasting menu (the very reasonably priced five course "surprise" lunch service, in which you just get whatever the chef sends). While it's understandable to have a general policy that the entire party will be on courses or a la carte, it's not nice to be rude about it or make us feel like complete imbeciles for daring to think we could eat what we want, as opposed to being told what we can and cannot order at lunch :-) The Asian lady who waited on us made us feel like trash, despite the fact that as a party of 7, we were their single largest lunch group of the day, and not a single one of us had been there before: chance to impress. The problem with established places like this is they don't care about your opinion, they care about driving revenue, and to have such dissonance between front of house service - in particular the head waitress, as the other waitstaff were great, and the maitre de restaurant was excellent - and back of house care and craftsmanship was jarring. I'll very likely be back, because the food is good enough, and because I want to give it a second chance. If the FOH service doesn't match the food the second time however, I won't be back.

Yelp
Went here mainly to try the famous Mille feuille. We choose the chef signature dish where you get to choose a started, a main dish and a dessert. We also ordered the caviar to start with. Maybe I'll just not a caviar person but I don't recommend ordering the caviar given for the same amount of money you can try two new dishes from the menu which I believe would provide me with more joy. My wife and I ordered the lobster and the shrimp salad dish and shared both. The lobster was the better choice mainly because it was a hot dish. For the main dish we ordered the rib eye and the sweetbread veal. The veal was the better dish given it was very tender. Finally for desserts both ordered the Mille feuille given we didn't want to share (who shares dessert!) it was good but maybe we had very high expectations that it didn't meet them due to the reviews we read about it. Overall a good restaurant to try while in Paris.

Yelp
We got very lucky and got last minute reservations. The service was fantastic the wine was amazing the staff was friendly, even the chef came out several times to greet and converse with the guests. But the food was WOW and yes it deserves the capital letters. The potato salad, the lobster foie gras dumpling, the sea bass (best one I have had to date) the lamb and so much more. All the dishes were just WOW! If you can get reservations do yourself a favor and go. Mercy to the whole team for a amazing night!!!

Yelp
Best dining experience I had during my 4 day vacation in Paris. I made a reservation online the day before for lunch. When I arrived to the restaurant, I had my laptop and my luggage with me. I had just gotten in from Luxembourg via TGV. The hostess took my things and seated me at a table. I was dining alone which could have be an awkward experience but the wait staff was very nice and checked up on me constantly. I had the carte blanche for €65 and a bottle of sparkling water for €10. The chef made the selection so everything was a surprise! He also came out to greet the diners. It was so nice and personal. Fois Gras & beets in wine sauce 5/5 Cauliflower soup 5/5 Fish entrée 4/5 Steak with summer vegetables 5/5 Chocolate cake with fruit filling and whiskey ice cream 5/5

Yelp
If you are looking for stereotypical old French asshole experience, this is the spot for you. Upon arriving, they basically tried to shoo us away, but after ordering an expensive bottle of wine they tolerated us. Very cool building that looks several hundred years old, which table cloth experience. The chef was extremely nice and its cool to eat a place that has a hard a star since the 60's. The food was ok, just not my style. Foie terrine lacked much of a punch of flavor. The lobster foie gras spinach raviola also lacked flavor and didn't work together despite adding truffles and having a nice huge piece of foie gras. The chicken entree while cooked to juicy perfection again lacked flavor. I can't hate the place but there has to be better stuffy French spots to visit.

Yelp
Beware: Service fee scam, high pressure sales tactics, acceptable food Of all the restaurants I've been to in Paris from 3 stars to none, this is the only one that added an additional 10% service charge to our bill. The Asian lady ordering our food repeatedly tried to push wine and truffle add on even after I told her politely no many times. My friend ordered black truffles and they added in white truffles which was 10 euros additional without telling us of the switch.

Yelp
Exceptional food, but horrible service. Based on the food alone, this restaurant deserves 4 to 5 stars. It's definitely worthy of its one star Michelin rating: refined, well balanced tastes, and great presentation to top it all off. The wine selection was also great. Problem was, the service was bad from start to finish. Upon entering, they took our coats and placed them on the waiting area chairs and took us to our seats at a corner of the restaurant. Once we sat down, the waiters rarely approached our corner, and we had to get out our seats to get their attention before they took our order. When ordering, the waitress also seemed very impatient, and left rather swiftly. However, she took her time explaining every item of the menu to another gentleman across from our table, either because he was French or because he wasn't a tourist. Upon leaving, we found our coats still placed on the chairs in the waiting area, which was very insulting considering everyone else's coats were put away neatly on the coat hanger. If not for the good food, I would've given this place one star just for the horrendous service, service that I would be unhappy with even at a lower-end restaurant. If you don't mind bad service, or happen to come across a better waitress, then this is a great place to experience fine-French cuisine with a Michelin star. However, if like me, you value good service as much as good food, go somewhere else.

Yelp
Wow! Amazing food! 9 course tasting menu, each plate was fabulous especially the sea bass that was prepared in a way I've never seen before. It melted in your mouth like butter! Aside from the food, the restaurant is very small and cozy. The wait staff was so attentive and the sommelier chose the perfect wine for us and was very pleasant and accommodating. Not to mention, the chef came out to say hello which I always love and think it adds a nice touch to the experience. I highly highly recommend!

Yelp
My family made it a point to try a Michelin star restaurant on our recent trip to Paris, and after a lot of research I concluded that Relais Louis XIII is definitely the best value in terms of Michelin stars (two) and price. For lunch, we each paid 55 euros, but keep in mind that other items like water and tea are added to the bill! The meal started with an amuse bouche of tomato and basil gazpacho with sliced radish on top. The refreshing bowl was a great way to both cleanse your palate and pique your appetite. The flavors were simple, and I appreciated the thought to make the meal something complete. For appetizers, I chose the lobster ravioli with foie gras and mushroom sauce. It was honestly one of the best bites of food I've ever put in my mouth, with all negative thoughts about eating liver aside. The single ravioli had foie gras on one side and extremely tender lobster on the other. When combined with the fragrant mushroom sauce, it was the perfect bite. For my entree, I chose the pork chop. This dish was a little simplistic and heavy in my opinion. Although the meat was perfectly cooked to a medium rare, the sauce wasn't as complex in terms of flavor as I would have expected after the lobster ravioli. The garnish that was given included vegetables and fried potatoes that were a little too buttery for my taste. Their signature dessert is the millefieulle, which I highly recommend! It is essentially a napoleon with vanilla custard cream inside, and it's beautifully crafted to a tall tower of flaky pastry and cream. It may seem like a heavy dessert, but they make it surprisingly light. Dessert also came with some house made cookies, but these weren't particularly memorable to me. In terms of portion size, the meal exceeded my expectations, especially with the size of the pork chop. Two Michelin stars is a lot to live up to, and I think the lobster ravioli really did that for me. In addition, I got the true Parisian Michelin star experience, complete with slightly snobby waiters with extreme pride in the institution where they're working in!

Yelp
Most enjoyable lunch, a stark contrast to the restaurant we ate at last night, both of which are Michelin hatted establishments. Service was efficient and not rushed and the waiter kindly and patiently went through each item on the menu in English, but in great detail so we knew exactly what we were ordering. Very tasty and complimenting flavours through every course without too much of the pretentiousness you come to see at fine dining restaurants. Highly recommended and book well in advance!

Yelp
The first time I dined there (2014) we shared duck and we had like five different versions of small plates with duck. It was amazing. The second time I dined there (2018) we ordered the tasting menu which was basically anything that the chef sent us. I liked most of the small dishes except for the veal or venison (can't remember but it was red meat) which was raw (I know some will say that this is high end taste but I like my meat to be medium well at least). I would go again but stick to the duck order we had the first time. Also chef Martinez is very friendly and the restaurant has amazing service staff

Min C.

Yelp
Came here for a dinner tasting menu and the food was FAN-TASTIC. Service was very professional, the décor was antique like with stones and wood beams, and we had a small area all to ourselves. Things that stood out for me was the lobster ravioli with some incredible sauce, the perfectly cooked veal and the roasted sweet fig dessert. I LOVE figs and I wish that they served me a whole bowl of just the roasted figs! There was a fish that was very interesting. It was almost like a fish soufflé with an incredibly light and fluffy texture. I didn't particularly enjoy it, but it's always nice to have something besides the norm at a Michelin star restaurant.

Yelp
Terrible experience. We made the reservation to celebrate our anniversary. Even notes and told the staff. We walked in at 9pm (last seating) and there was two empty table on main floor but hostess walked us up to an empty room. Our server showed up 6 minutes later and when we asked if we can be moved down he was all angry and tried to explain to us why the main floor is for "regular customers who asked for those tables" (this is an hour before closing). We asked him a few simple question and he seemed so irritated and angry with us for asking simple questions like "is there a wine you recommend" "can the bar make a cocktail" "what's in this dish" it was so bad that we stopped asking and didn't even care. They sent us more servers who periodically showed up to our table and brought food. Not one server ever ever asked how the food was. Middle of dinner they asked us if we want to move down to main floor and finally moved us to the same empty table we saw an hour earlier when we walked in:) during the main course my wife's glass slipped on the table cover and wine poured al over and the glass broke in half. The rude server rushed (not to help or asked if we are ok) but to pick up the glass and run. He never brought a new glass or offered anything or was worried about little glasses on the table. . We just shared wine from the same glass for the rest of it:) at some point the executive chef was walking around and asking if things were ok at the tables which was nice to see someone cares. Hope you don't get this angry man when you go there.

Yelp
This is what memories are made of. Ambiance: A quiet relaxing, large room with classical furnishings. Only about 4 tables but plenty of space so you won't hear other conversations. Service: What you'd expect from a 1-star place. Everything you might want is either anticipated or delivered before you know you want it. You won't be rushed in the slightest so take your time and savor the experience. Food: Second to none. I came here for lunch and it was a 3-course prix-fixe. Having said that we got 3 amuse-bouches which were all superb and not simply a case of guilding the lilly - the chef clearly put thought into them. I had a lobster and foie gras ravioli for starters (see photo). Doesn't look like much in the photo but this is the best bite I've had anywhere in over a year. I could eat a half-dozen of these and die a happy man. For main course I had a two-part duck dish: one of duck breast the other of a warm duck and foie gras pie. The first disappeared in an instant and the second was a revelation as cooked foie is almost never good, but in this case it was melt in the mouth goodness. The only slight disappointment was the dessert (I had the mille-feuille) which was a little dry and ordinary. My friend had a tarte souffle (yes, it was indeed a combination of both) which she said was devine and wouldn't let us verify this by sharing, so it must have been. I wasn't drinking but the wine selection seemed pretty good to me and some choices were offered by the glass which again is a nice touch. Price: Yes, it's a pricey meal, but I'd say it's more than value for money given the quality. Guys, if you wanted a memorable place in Paris to propose this might be a good choice. The best meal I've had in Paris.

Yelp
We are foodies and let me tell you this is one not to be missed! This restaurant is beyond amazing from the food to the staff and the Chef is a pure genius. We have been to Paris several times and I have never had a better meal, and can't wait to go back. Special credit to the sommelier Matthew, Chef Martinez, and our server Vincent was a delight. I have one word of advice if you are considering this restaurant: GO!

Trisa L.

Yelp
Very bad service, push you to order drinks without menu. When you order the set meal, they will try to revert to the expensive one. Very bad Asia lady waitress, shame on all of you!! Go to the hell!!

Yelp
I ate here with my partner two Fridays ago and was extremely disappointed. We have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world. This one did not qualify as one. We chose the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course lack flavor development. The fish and the duck were cooked completely appropriately - fish was tender with a crispy skin and duck was seared and medium rare. Both these meat dishes left me feeling unsatisfied and at times were almost tasteless. Typically, when I am at restaurants like these I cannot stop raving about the food and have a lot to say about the quality of the produce and meat. Not here. Left me pretty upset with a $700 bill for a meal we did not enjoy. I would recommend this place to no one and I question the Michelin star process at this point. This was the most disappointing meal I have ever had and not even the wine stood out. Yes, it may seem like a romantic place, but there are far more less expensive and better tasting food menus in Paris. The only thing this place got right was presentation. I believe to the untrained palate this place might be considered good if you are not used to fine dining, but I was seriously disappointed.

Yelp
I have never written a bad review over social media but this time I just couldn't stop myself. I am SO DISAPPOINTED with this restaurant's service! They claim to be a Michelin star restaurant but they didn't honor their promise over the phone that I have a table for my parents' 40th anniversary. What was supposed to be a fabulous dinner at a highly rated restaurant turned into a restaurant hanging up the phone in my face (!!!!!). THAT IS NOT SERVICE. And definitely not worth paying ~500 Euros for a meal at this place. I spoke with Celia (Maitre D') over the phone last week and she confirmed my reservation and asked me to send additional details over email, which I did right after the call. A few days later they tell me the restaurant is fully booked. That is very very poor service. I was happy to provide Celia the credit card information last week over the phone and she didn't want to take it - she told me "don't worry, you have a table". A great restaurant with great service would honor that promise. I sent them all the information via email last week and they never told they needed the credit card information in order to complete the booking. I provided the credit card information just for the payment of the bill but was happy to provide it last week over the phone to Celia and also via email. I would never set foot in this restaurant and would rather find another restaurant to have the honor of serving my parents on their special occasion.

Yelp
This place was an absolute gem on every level. The location, the courses, the attention to detail among the staff. We will definitely dine here again for a special occasion!

Yelp
Gentleman, if you are looking for a place to take your lady for an authentic and romantic Parisian meal then this is the place. Inside is very warm and dimly lit with candles, adorning dark wood throughout. It has a very historic feel; you will essentially feel as though you stepped back in time. The service is impeccable - from the attentive wait staff to the knowledgeable Sommelier. Their wine list is quite lengthy, but the Sommelier will assist you in picking the perfect wine to suit your palate. Before your entree, they bring around a cart with various fromages for you to try. The meat is cooked to absolute perfection and the deserts are decadent. This rates as one of the top 5 most amazing meals I've had in my life to date.

Yelp
A lovely restaurant in a gallery district. Outside and the interior sort of rustic and non descriptive, but service was excellent. We went for the a la carte menu- it was plenty. They gave us a starter of an extremely light type of cheese puffed bread plus country rustic homemade bread and complementary pumpkin soup so it was a lot for me with a appetizer and main course as well. The appetizer we choose was their specialty- a spinach ravioli filled with foie gras and lobster- melts in your mouth. I was adventurous and had the pigeon with seasonal fall roasted vegetables. My husband had the duck in two courses- first was the breast portion and the second (his his favorite) was the leg meat pared with foie gras inside pastry. Very rich. We skipped dessert, but they completed the meal with complementary cream puffs. The Sommelier helped us with the many wine options and the wait staff helped us through the French menu. Very nice evening..more for a special occasion.

Yelp
An expensive meal, but absolutely worth every euro. The food quality is out of the roof - the textures are insane, the dishes themselves are incredibly creative, and the flavors are phenomenal. There was a carrot soup for the first course when I went, and while the name made the dish sound underwhelming, the flavor blew our minds. It was single-handledly, without a doubt, the best soup I'd ever had. The rest of the entrees were amazingly delicious as well. With the 6 course meal, all of the entrees are slightly small, but combined with the little snacks and appetizers they give you inbetween, the experience is very filling. The only negative was that we (me and 3 other friends, all college students) had to purchase a wine that was practically pressured onto us, but with the atmosphere of the restaurant it was something we should have expected. Were I ever to go to Paris again and have something to celebrate, I would definitely revisit. Relais Louis was an amazing culinary experience!
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
I found Relais Louis via a Timeout article outlining some of Paris's best, yet "affordable", Michelin-starred restaurants. I was able to make a reservation via their website and the reservation was confirmed via email shortly thereafter. My husband and I had a reservation for an early, by Paris standards, dinner. The restaurant itself has a very rustic old world feel--the ambiance is great to set you up for a lingering dining experience. Note--it was quite cold, so bring a sweater if you're prone to being chilly. My husband and I chose the chef's choice 6 course selection. Our waiter kindly asked if we had any aversions or food allergies to take note of during the process. We also had the sommelier choose our wines for us (thankfully they were reasonably priced at about 20€ a glass). The courses were good, but really not what I was expecting to receive from a Michelin-starred establishment. Nothing was inherently bad by any means, but the 250€ bill didn't match the "meh" feelings towards the food I left with. I'm glad I dined at at least one Michelin-starred restaurant during my stay in Paris, but it definitely wasn't all it was cracked up to be!

Superb everything. .. pre-fix menu. Service. Quality and taste of food. Unbelievable napoleon... We will return some day... Matthew was great.. thank you.

Yelp
This place is exquisite. My girlfriend and I had dinner here and had a very nice time. Service was good and the food was excellent.

Yelp
As we endured this experience, I kept thinking of the story of the Emperor's New Clothes. I like good food and a great atmosphere, whether that's an outdoor BBQ or fine dining. Thus far, my experiences with the higher end of fine dining are increasingly moving me to the BBQ realm. I'd done my research in advance, and we'd had other very good meals in Paris, but this was our one Michelin-starred restaurant. We decided to go all-in on our investment and go for the chef's selection. Sadly, as the meal progressed, It got so bad, we started hoping no more courses were coming. The food was unremarkable, even bland in its taste. The only dish that was remotely memorable was a Napoleon which was one of the desserts. The presentations were novel, but not particularly attractive. To my way of thinking, presentations follow flavor and texture on the rating scale anyway. Attractively presented cardboard doesn't do much for me. I will say that the wine was excellent (though I'm not much of a judge). The service was similarly unimpressive. While the wait staff were attentive, there were glaring failures. The waiter bonked my GF in the forehead with the handle of a knife as he removed it from the table. She hadn't leaned in, he just wasn't being sufficiently careful. Maybe if they didn't gratuitously change out the silverware between every course, they wouldn't have problems like that. Later, I was taking a little longer on a course than my GF. A waitress leaned in to take my plate and was stopped only upon seeing my fork going for the plate (or was it her hand? It was an unconscious movement on my part). I hate when waiters do that. In both cases the wait staff were embarrassed and apologetic, but it simply shouldn't have happened. Lastly, the number of times they contacted me to confirm the reservation was annoying, and a little insulting. As we sat through the meal, I felt my sense of embarrassment growing. The word "sucker" kept coming to mind. Perhaps like the Emperor's courtesans of old, I simply lack the culture and discernment to appreciate the quality with which we were presented. If you think that's the case, have at it my friend.

Yelp
What an amazing dining experience. Our concierge from our hotel( David from the crown plaza republique) recommended this place for his favorite fine dining in the Latin quarter. We arrived late but they were gracious enough to keep the restaurant open longer. We had an amazing sommelier named Cho from Japan. He was so nice and gave some excellent wine recommendations. 1st we were given a delightfull amuse Bouche of carrots in a champagne Demi glace just to wet our appetites. This was followed by an assortment of fresh baked rolls. My favorite was the brioche. My companion had the vegetable soup while I greatly enjoyed a generous lobster filled ravioli in foie gras sauce just bursting with butter. Totally decedent. This place has a very peaceful ambiance and is hidden away on a quiet street. The decor is very sophisticated and you need to dress accordingly( no jeans). I had this delicious milk fed veal with wild mushrooms and truffles. My friend had the even better duck prepared two ways. 1st the breast is cooked medium rare. 2nd the leg was confited in it's own natural fat( oh so good). After our main courses we had a tiny bit of cheese. For dessert I had a Napoleon with some of the best puff pastry I've ever consumed. My friend had the totally indulgent raspberry tart accompanied by vanilla gelato and violet petals. This was a once in a lifetime meal. The restaurant seemed to be packed with locals instead of tourists which is always a good thing. Can't wait to go back next yr for my annual trip to Paris

Yelp
I recently celebrated my one year anniversary of moving to Paris and wanted something unique to commemorate that. Making an online reservation was simple and you receive an SMS the day before to confirm the reservation. We ordered champagne and were brought 4 little cheese stuffed entrees (appetizers in English) which were just perfect and set the tone for the evening. The lobster ravioli melted in my mouth and I could easily have made a meal of those. I ordered the steak and requested it be done medium rare as steaks here usually are too rare for me. Some places will not accommodate that, however, it was no problem and it was done to perfection. The sommelier suggested an appropriate red wine which was perfect. Choices by the glass are limited and I cannot drink a bottle by myself. The bread basket was never empty and it was I who consumed it continuously along with the fabulously salted Normandy butter on the table. A nice melange of vegetables accompanied my steak. Finally, the piece de resistance was the millefeuille, which was huge as well as delicious. Also interestingly one can order decaf coffee. You also get an additional dessert, more like petit fours, but not exactly. All in all a wonderful meal, and considering the quality of the food one would expect to pay more as this is a Michelin star restaurant. Both food and service worth every penny.

Yelp
Very wonderful experience. We were the first diners to arrive just after seven and left three and a half hours later. The intervening interlude was sheer dining bliss. The service was impeccable in that special sense you get when you know whatever you request will be accomplished immediately and with a subtle flair. The choice of courses is not overwhelming but covers all the bases. My wife is pescatarian and she had all the choices she desired. Standouts: pumpkin soup, duck, the lobster with stuffed foie gras and the sole done soufflé style. Greeted twice by Chef Martinez and encouraged to stay as long as we liked. My wife took an immense liking to the wooden bird that decorated the table. They happily added it the bill and it went home in her purse. Now Petite Canard is a member of the family.

Yelp
Over Christmas week my wife and I took my wife's first trip to Paris and we desperately wanted to have at least one Michelin-starred meal. Despite the holiday crush and closures (combined with a definite lack of foresight on our part), we were fortunate enough to get a lunch reservation at Relais on New Years Day for their fixed menu. It was absolutely wonderful and quite reasonably priced. In addition, the sommelier made a great wine recommendation, again quite reasonable (a 2014 Faugeres). In doing some research afterwards, I discovered that the chef, Manuel Martinez, had been named "Un Des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France", which is apparently a personal achievement award given to the chef himself (I'd never heard of it before). We had none of the service-related issues mentioned in several other reviews, and the staff that attended us was so gracious that it's difficult to imagine them acting that way. As I mentioned to my wife afterwards, if this is what a Michelin one-star meal is like, with respect to a two or three star I confess "Domine, non sum dignus." A very satisfying finale to our trip.

Yelp
The whole evening was truly a great experience. The staff was caring, polite and professional, they made sure the orders and what our tastes were. The rooms are quiet. Loved that there is a stool for the purse. Offering to call a taxi for us was a lovely touch.

Yelp
Great food, not so great experience. They took 30min to bring us bread, an hour to get our order and about 30 min between each dish. We did the 5 courses. Everything was great, except for the crab risotto with chunks of pineapple, not a fan, and a not so good risotto.

Yelp
This is an exceptional restaurant serving real French food with a valuable wine list which includes rare and expensive wines to those reasonable but very good in quality for price. Food is quite conservative but much very well with very good wines although you can ask for appropriate suggestion for the matching with some reasonable wines in the list. These days, this kind of traditional restaurants receive less popularity in Paris because of the change of taste of the people to lighter and more Asian-like food, but this restaurant's value is still held to be worth visiting especially for special dates such as anniversaries.

Yelp
We tried to make a reservation last year but the restaurant was closed for a few months. We were only in Paris for a few days this year and they were either not opened or full. Luckily, they were nice enough to offer us a special table!! So glad we had the chance to eat here because it was amazing! Environment- It's a very cute, family style french restaurant. We were seated at the top floor where there was a painting of Louis Xiii. The service is super good-- we were in a hurry and had to finish eating in an hour when most French meals require 2+ hours to enjoy the food. After we explained the situation, the server and the chef tried their best to speed up. I can tell the waiter was very stressed the whole time. He was also very good at explaining the menu. Food-amazing! It was our first time there so the waiter suggested us to try their traditional menu. since we had 4 people, we got to try many dishes. All were delicious! my favorite were the lobster ravioli, duck and the Napoleon. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Louis Xiii. The chef came out to greet us at the end and we got to take a pic with him! so lucky! I will try to come back next time when I'm in Paris to try their daily menu.

Yelp
We just had dinner here this evening. The food was incredible. The service was outstanding. We had the Signature Menu so we could have the lobster ravioli I have read so much about. They respected our wine selection... a delightful Sancerre. Dinner began with a special offering of 3 delightful cheese based hors d'oeuvres and and additional starter, a light quenelle. Followed by the lobster (with foie gras) ravioli which was better than the reviews. We selected the duck plat with vegetables and a lovely citrusy sauce. I am not generally a duck fan...but I am now! Then followed the "rest" of the duck dish a delicious offering with duck and figs. Next to arrive was was the cheese course which was offered with a very nice Sauternes. Dessert was the magnificent Mille-feuille which was incredibly flaky with divine vanilla cream. We passed on coffee but they still delivered a small plate of petit fours including a marvelous petite cream puff. If I am ever I. Paris again we will be back. The food and experience was worth every euro and not the amount I had budgeted for. Merci Relais Louis XIII for a wonderful meal!

Yelp
Relais Louis XIII is worth all of the hype. The food was superb, and the service was great, too. Definitely a stark contrast to the brisk and almost-inattentive service at most Parisian bistros (as it should be for the price). I tried to make a reservation about 5 months in advance via their website. I received an email reply the next day (in English) saying that they don't make reservations until 30 days out. I ended up using the website again about 2 weeks out to make the reservation successfully. I then confirmed via email with them on two separate occasions before the meal. I was impressed with their communication, and that they reached out in English (I wrote to them in French and English). When we showed up, they were clearly just opening. We received a lot of attention as we were the first ones seated. By the time we left, the main floor was full (their are only 6-7 tables), and we were still being waiting on as though it were just us. The chef came out to greet everyone-albeit quickly- and then returned to the kitchen to make us a truly memorable meal. We knew it would be good after the first bite of he tasty and warm "cheesy puff" they presented us with when we sat down! We chose the "Inspiration" menu, and were rewarded with 5 (or was it 6?) courses plus an amuse bouche. The first course was "green peas three ways" and was a very tasty and delicate experiment in molecular gastronomy, complete with pea foam and gel. The second was my favorite of the night- white asparagus perfectly cooked and bathed in a bacon based Parmesan sauce, topped with an even-more-perfectly-cooked poached(?) egg. That was followed by a delicious and beautifully presented fish course, a "gin and tonic" palette cleanser, and a tasty (although least favorite) beef dish. Lastly, we were presented with no fewer than 3 dessert plates (light and perfectly plated strawberry dish, plate of gelées and pastry, and profiteroles with warm chocolate sauce). It was all absurdly delicious, and superbly presented. The wait staff was attentive without being annoying, and spoke English as we wished. The sommelier often doubled as waiter, and he paired our meal with a few different (and surprisingly affordable 15Euro) glasses of red wine. Overall, we were very pleased despite the hefty bill. Our only wish was that we went when it was more crowded at the start. We were hesitant to have "loud"/normal volume conversation at first, since we were the only ones in there. The next two couples (also both seemingly American) are clearly feeling the same discomfort. Once a (local?) French couple settled in and the place started bustling, everyone felt more at home and we chatted freely. I would definitely return to Le Relais Louis XIII, although I am more inclined to try something new next time I'm in Paris. It was our first two-starred meal, and it did not disappoint us. You don't celebrate your 10 year anniversary every day-so it was worth the splurge! If you can afford it, we highly recommend Relais Louis XII!

Yelp
I am very reluctant to award 5 stars and rarely feel it is appropriate. This was an easy decision - quality ingredients, thoughtfully conceived dishes, and professionally served. The rooms aside from their historic value are simply elegant. We were served attentively and the meal was paced perfectly. The wine list is impressive for its breadth and quality. The three course prix fixe "dejeuner" option is actually four plus courses and started with a small bowl of warm vegetable veloute.. We opted for the lobster ravioli and a seasonal cepes gratin with foie gras. If nothing else was served we would have left happy. The plats we chose included the chefs speciality - a two course duck offering that started with a melt in your mouth slab of magret. That was followed by what I can only describe as a small foie gras and duck buttery pie with a salad. My wife's beef dish was one of the best quality and tasting beef dishes we have enjoyed in Europe. Dessert was the signature millle feuille, and it doesn't disappoint. Wonderful, absolutely great.

Yelp
It was 75 Euro or $83 US Dollar (including a glass of wine) per person for lunch for the Sampler Option. There were 6 courses, each with minimal quantity. We were just half full when we were done with the meal. The restaurant has iron bars around all the windows for security reason. The place is in a desserted alley with pee smell on the street. The inside looked fine, but definitely not a fancy place to dine overall. We didn't have a dedicated Wait/Waitress. 3 of them served us. The French Waiter and Waitress were good. The Asian male Waiter appeared to be having a bad day. He appeared mad at something the whole time. The Michelin rating for this restaurant is over-rated. Unless money grows on tree for you and unless you prepare to be hungry when you are done with a meal there for $83, this place is not for you. It is definitely not for us. We were quite stupid to have dined there. Please note that the price of the food includes tax and 15% tip. You pay only the price of the food listed in the menu only. Hope this review helps. Cheers.
