The Best Yemeni Restaurants in Metro Detroit | Eater Detroit

"This spot, which debuted in the former Clock Restaurant along Joseph Campau Avenue in late 2017, serves a mix of Yemeni food and other Middle Eastern dishes. Choose from options like lamb ghallaba (a mix of sliced meat and chopped vegetables sautéed in spices), mandi (an Eastern Yemeni dish featuring tender meat and rice), and masoob (a banana-based pudding made from a mixture of dairy, bread, dates, and honey) for dessert. Place takeout orders online or give the restaurant a call." - Danny Palumbo

Where to Dine and Drink in Hamtramck

"Remas brings a wonderful Yemeni dining option to Hamtramck. The restaurant serves many dishes in a sleek, efficient space. The fasolia (white beans) and saltah (a popular Yemeni stew) are excellent. There’s also no going wrong with the haneeth — slow-roasted chicken or lamb." - Serena Maria Daniels

✨Google Guide Review 🤤: The Chicken Shawarma plate was amazing. Tons of food for a great price. I visited two years ago for a business lunch with a colleague and I will definitely be visiting again.

Google
The sultah not fresh smell bad , rice too too salty why !The bread burned , and this last time to come to this business I spent few hundreds dollars to be disappointed, this is my final time to buy from restaurant, bc I cook away better home .

Google
If I could give more than a 5 Star review I would. We used there private hall for my nephews 1st birthday and everything was amazing. The food was excellent. The owner and staff were very accommodating. They allowed us to come in before hand to set up and even allowed us to stay a bit after closing so we can take everything down. I highly recommend Remus Restaurant for any events any one is hosting. Fabulous place!!!

Google
I've never sat down an ate in here but I've carried out multiple times and it has ALWAYS BEEN DELICIOUS! Had some today 9/19/24 Thursday, 7pm. Here's a plate I made enjoy you would too, try it.

Google
Don't let the exterior deceive you, Remas has excellent food. If you love lamb, Remas needs to be on your short list. The staff is super #DetroitFriendly that is typical across the city. I can't wait to take some friends or colleagues.

I am highly disappointed that I found a black stone in my food. I ordered pick up and I have enjoyed many many and I do mean many orders from this company. But last night around 9pm when I pick up me and my husband’s order . We both enjoy so much ,that we could not eat it all so I saved my fish and rice for after work snack. Then I decided to heat it in the oven and share it with my granddaughter. When I took a bite of the rice I had no ideal a stone was also on the fork. Glad it was me and not my granddaughter, however I bite down and all I heard and felt was a crunch, I instantly spit it out of my mouth. And here is a picture of it… Why and how could something like this be inside of my food. I lucky I did not lose a tooth. But now I nervous on going back to my favorite restaurant. Me and my husband Rick spends a lot of money here. And I hate to have to leave.

Google
I would like to start by saying we drove 27 minutes (with no traffic) to get here. Going in... the entrance that leads to the reception was filled with trash... like we literally had to walk around peices of scattered trash on the floor. I had reserved thru Google and went up to tell them my name for the reservation but instead were quickly handed 2 menus and were told to sit where ever we want. We tried to find a clean table since most of them had used Napkins or fresh food stains on them, so we sat at one of the only tables that had plates and silverware... indicating it was ready to be used. We sat, looked thru the menu... and waited a good while for a server to come and greet us. No one came... we started looking around and realized how disgusting everything was... the floors, wall had food drippings all over it, Napkins holder and table number stand... the walls... it was disgusting. I was legit afraid of how dirty it must be... inside the kitchen... as it is not in the publics view... I could only imagine how bad it is... after nearly ten minutes of us waiting and not being met by a server I told my husband I'm afraid to eat from the food, and that it seems no one is going to serve us anytime soon... so we picked up our belongings and left. That place needs to be shut down that's how unkept it is. No place serving food to people has any right to be this dirty... it's all in the pictures posted.

Yelp
This place is so good it's hard to explain in words. I was in Michigan visiting family, and we made the trek to Hamtramck to go to Remas. I hadn't had Yemeni food before, but being from the SF Bay Area I had assumed that the middle eastern food I've had back home would be comparable. I was very wrong - I didn't know what I was missing until I came here, and now I crave Yemeni food. The restaurant itself is pretty big and was packed with families and friends eating dinner. We ordered a bunch of food including some chicken, hummus, a salad, and bread. Everything was so fresh and delicious, but the thing I was not prepared for is this garlic sauce. I think it's just whipped raw garlic or something to that effect. It's definitely not for the faint of heart if you're not a fan of garlic, but I am and I honestly could have eaten it straight. We demolished a relatively large plate of it and I would have asked for more, but the portions of the entrees we got were so big we couldn't eat anymore. Also there's a dispenser of hot chai by the register and you shouldn't bypass it. I love chai and theirs is great with or without milk in it. Next time I'm in Michigan I'll definitely be back, potentially more than once just to get that garlic sauce.

Yelp
I passed by Remas several times when visiting my parents and finally decided to order take out from here, which entailed the Mediterranean tray for 4, six pieces of falafel, hummus, and fattoush salad. The rice to meat ratio in the tray was 3:1. We had way too much rice left over and barely enough meat for everyone. The salad, kabobs, and hummus were decent, but the falafels were too hard and bland. Unfortunately, we didn't find the meal to be worth the price (over $100).

Yelp
This food is SO GOOD. I highly recommend a platter/tray if you have a few people to feed. It's a very generous amount of food for a great price. Shawarma are also wonderful. Plenty of parking, and the staff is very nice.

Yelp
Excellent food excellent service a great experience. Preparation and presentation were flawless

Yelp
Review pertains only to the chicken schwama. It was very salty and dry. It felt like I was possibly eating chicken bones due to the hardness. I was hungry due to a few beers at the Hamtramck Labor Day fest.. That said, likely would not order again..
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
Some things, like the decor, have changed a bit at Remas. They do still offer complimentary tea and coffee. We got to pick up order that included a five-piece deboned chicken, one beef kabob skewer and one chicken shawarma. As in the past, the beef kebab was very well seasoned and tender. However, unlike before, there was not bread and garlic sauce. It was served on a few leaves of chopped Romaine with a couple of pieces of grilled onion and carrot tossed in. The deboned chicken came with two sides. We selected rice and salad with house dressing. Both of the sides were nice. The chicken was good, but it was a bit stringy. It did not come with pita either. This is where things took a turn. The chicken shawarma was horrible. It was more bread than chicken with two very thin pieces of pickle. The garlic sauce was potent but used sparingly. Unfortunately, because the chicken was overcooked, the lack of sauce was no help. What you ended up with was a dry chewy mess . Even considering that everything may be freshly prepared, there was no excuse for the ridiculous wait time we had of a bit more than 30 minutes. Even though we received it as soon as it was done, somehow the shawarma was room temperature, at best. This will be my last time ordering the shawarma, but I will continue to return for the beef kabob and lentil soup.

Yelp
Excellent Yemeni spot in Hamtramck. I went once before the restaurants went on indoor dinning pause and it was fantastic and just ordered delivery today. The Mediterranean tray for two is actually big enough to feed 4 to 6. My friend and I both had leftovers for days and everything was so good. All the meats are very high quality and cooked perfectly, the hummus, grape leaves, rice, etc. But hold the phone, the lamb soup is the best soup I've ever had in my life. No joke. It's a lamb consomme, just the most delicious broth ever. When I was there in person, I wanted the lentil soup but they were out so that one is great as well I'm sure. The only thing I don't like here are the fries, I don't know what this cooking technique is that makes the fries orange and bumpy (some kind of seasoning I guess), but they are good for that method: hot and crisp. I just prefer plain fries with a little salt. The restaurant itself was very bright and clean, staff was very nice and they have Mexican coke and really good hot tea for ending the meal. I look forward to visiting again when it's open indoors but definitely a good order in place in the meantime.

Yelp
Probably the best lentil soup I've ever had. Mildly spicy, with lots of other warming spices such as cumin and coriander.

Brab S.

Yelp
The food here was phenomenal. I ordered the burger and the lamb chops and they were both A1. I would highly recommend they gave me a bunch of rice and a bunch of food for a very low price 10 out of 10 five stars best Arabic restaurant in the area would definitely travel out to go get some.

Yelp
I think they just recently renovated. Looks very nice. They have the best soup & Fahsa. Everything else is good. Plenty of parking. They have a side for families & women separate to your right when you enter, if you would like the privacy. Staff is kind, never had an issue here before.

Tony W.

Yelp
Consistently good food and service. Complimentary tea is a nice touch. They don't have as many sandwich choices as they did a couple of years ago but the sides and salads are excellent.

Yelp
walking into remas i was hit with a smell. the type of smell that is mouth watering. it's always a good sign when you enter a restaurant and the aroma pulls you in. we ordered the lamb fahsa (spicy) and based off of my good friend Yunus Al Somairis recommendation ordered remas zestly gallaba the food came out fairly quickly. the service was definitely up there and the food did not miss. the bread was fresh the fahsa was hot, i just wish the fahsa was a little spicier. overall i would highly recommend this place for authentic yemeni cuisine. it's currently tied as my favorite place to get fahsa in the metro detroit area
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Ordered a spicy Fahsa with chicken, a mixed white beans and fava beans, a large fatoosh with no pita and a large hummus. It's been here for a couple of years, still looks new. It's a decent size place inside, there's a private room for a party. Smells of a very potent air freshener. My bill total was $33.88. I assume it's the beans and the fahsa that takes so long to make. The Mixed mean is not bad, flavorful. The spicy chicken fahsa is very comfort food like. Has a ton of flavor and good spice to it. They gave me signs of jalapeño sauce and that kicks up the Fahsa to an even higher level for me. It tastes delicious. The pita packets came piping hot and are still warm after the drive home. They have actual pockets and were nice and fluffy. The salad tastes as expected. The hummus was not bad, slightly bland, but tasted good. The rest of the food made my meal. The food here is on point and everything tastes really good. I have only been to a handful of Yemeni restaurants, but it's my favorite so far. I found my favorite middle eastern in the metropolitan area. Will definitely be back for more of this good stuff.

SM B.

Yelp
We stopped by Remas on a Sunday. We had only had Yemenis food once before. We ordered a few traditional items and also ordered what one would consider typical Lebanese food. Everything was very good. Their salad dressing was amazing and we enjoyed the hummus even more than most middle eastern places we've been. We really like the spices they use and the bread is amazing! We had wonderful service and even got to try some tea and dessert on the house. The tea was so good. Has a clove flavor to it. As we were leaving there was two separate large parties coming in so this place must be well known in town.

Joy M.

Yelp
Very authentic Yemani food, considering the three times I've been there my group were the only white folks eating there. The bread is delicious as is all the entrees we've tried.

Komal F.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was quick . Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Will definitely come again.

Faiza C.

Yelp
We got the the tray for two that included the lamb haneeth, lamb masloug, and beef gallaba with rice and fries. For starters, they served us with yellow colored lamb soup without lamb in it and salad. The soup was really good to help build up the anticipation for what is to come next. However, it's just disappointing to not find lamb in your soup. Salad was just average as well with lettuce and a few cucumber and tomatoes here and there. The meat platter was really good. Meat was tender and juicy with spices hitting all the right notes. They need to improve their soup and salad game but it could be just the Yemeni way of serving the soup. But salad needs improvement big time though. Could it be because it was late at night and they were about to close? but that still shouldn't impact the quality of sides served with the food. Sides are as important as the main course. Will definitely come back to try more items on the menu.

Ahmd B.

Yelp
It's the best restaurant in Hamtramck. Delicious Mediterranean food. It tastes like original Arabic food. The workers in there always be nice.

Ammar G.

Yelp
Food and drinks are so good. Very clean and nice staff. Thank you again! I will return for another meal and highly recommend to family and friends. I got chicken and rice with a mango drink.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to stop by Remas today with some friends. There are a couple great Yemeni places in town already, but I'm always happy to give a new place a chance. The new owners did a great remodel with the former L. George's space, it looks classy and clean inside. The manager (and wife?) were very incredibly welcoming as well, they provided great service and explained things to us when we had questions. All of us are familiar with yemeni food, so we were eager to try a new take on it. We had a big group, so we split the "Remas try for 6" which includes Haneeth, Masloug, Meat & Chicken Gallaba, and is served with Rice, Soup, or Salad (and a big smattering of super crispy french fries!) We also got a bowl of Remas Fahsah and tuna fahsah (a first for all of us) as well as some saltah, and plenty of bread. The hosts were gracious enough to provide us with some free soft breads and hummus (delicious and smooth) when they brought out the salad - covered with good fresh vegetables and a delightful thick ginger and carrot dressing. The soups and bread came out next. The tuna fahsah was hearty, the flavor wasn't fishy, and the spices blended perfectly. The lamb in the Remas fahsah was well spiced, falling apart, and would be a great food for when you need something to make you feel loved. The saltah was similarly well made, extra hearty and chock full of vegetables. The gigantic platter came out and wowed all of us. Tons of rice, fantastic haneeth and masloug, falling off the bone with tons of flavor. The haneeth is a type of roasted lamb, while the masloug is simmered in broth. Both were very good, I preferred the haneeth with its flavorful outside layer, but both were excellent. The gallabah was mixed in with the rice and very tender. I would not hesitate to come back here and order anything on their menu (on top of yemeni food they have plenty of mediterranean dishes, breakfast, and a kids menu), with a side of a sweet and fruity smoothie or a spiced sweet tea. The staff and owners did a great job and I'd love to see them succeed in this space!

Yelp
Went with 2 friends to try out the former Clock Restaurant that is now a Yemenese dining spot. Lots of choices, but we ordered the Mediterranean plate for two and a fattoush salad along with mango smoothies as our beverages. There was enough food for six and it was all great! Along with an assortment of chicken, beef, and lamb there was a delicious long grain rice and green peppers and onions sauteed and seasoned wonderfully. Along with the main dish, there was a tasty hummus, and a subtle garlic sauce along with a unique Yemeni flat bread. Service was great and we were there for a late lunch so only two other booths occupied. Highly recommend.

Iqbal A.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Nice level of spicy. Also great for Yemeni breakfast. Mint tea great. Very efficient service Nice environment. Ask the server for recommendations if going for the first time

Jonathon M.

Yelp
Best lamb in Hamtramack. Their Lamb Haneeth is so tender and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yvonne M.

Yelp
The food was exceptionally good. The customer service was outstanding. This has become my favorite Mediterranean spot to eat.

Yelp
Amazing! I like Yemeni food, but these guys made me fell in love with it. I know I'll visit Remas every time I visit Detroit area. Extra friendly. I want more of the addictive Adani tea to go in my mug they took it, washed it and filled up with no charge.
google avatar

Max G.

Yelp
Good food, clean restaurant, professional and courteous staff. Parking lot could use some improvements but otherwise a good lunch spot.
google avatar

I D.

Yelp
Very modern looking eating area. Definite eye appeal. The food was amazing. Had the Remas special plate for 2...the lamb...oh my goodness! Juicy and melted in my mouth...I could feel my taste buds do a little dance in excitement. The jalepeno salsa type mixture is pretty amazing too, very fresh palate cleanser...just enough spice to enhance the bite. Garlic dip is top notch! Will definitely be coming here again! Thank you Remas!!
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is very good! Faisa, ful, lamb Mandi, lamb soup, adeni chai, yemeni bread, lentil soup, garlic sauce. All are my favorites. Very nice staff as well.
google avatar

Roland C.

Yelp
Great food, great portions, and great price. Their zestly gallaba, haneeth chicken, and fahsah lamb are our favorites.
google avatar

Jaleelah A.

Yelp
Remas offers a great selection, great service, and an amazing menu to satisfy all taste buds. The price is very reasonable considering the large portions!
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
Great first visit. I can't wait to come back and explore the menu more. I had the chicken aghda, with rice and Yemeni bread. The portions are HUGE! I ate it for two additional meals at home. The place is clean, our server was very friendly and patient. He helped walk us through some of the Yemeni items. On a random note, the coffee here is also delicious.

Willie A.

Yelp
Delicious and best customer service Special thanks to the chef. Best restaurant in hamtramck and surrounding area for Mediterranean food.
google avatar

Frank G.

Yelp
Lamb mandi was delicious. A bit pricey but good. Also. Service a bit slow but delicious
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
I've been thinking about how strange it is that more restaurants don't do the little things that Remas did, like ask how the food and service was, genuinely ask "Is there anything we can do better?", and offer a cup of spiced Yemeni tea after the meal. Despite requiring minimal effort and resources on the part of the restaurant, these are the things that create repeat customers. I'm a newly minted repeat customer of Remas. I enjoyed the slow-roasted lamb dish recommended by the server, and the crushed lentil soup was excellent. The lamb came with rice, what looked like stewed, spiced vegetables, and warm bread with garlic sauce. The food was satisfying, but at least in my case, it's the experience that determines whether I return. Remas is easy to get to, there's plenty of free parking, there was a salutary lack of blaring top-40 music, the people were friendly, and those little booths are perfect for this solo diner. I told the owner that I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Razu C.

Yelp
Remas is remolded of old Clocks. Decoration of the place is nice and clean with plenty of parking spaces. Food was delicious, can't go wrong with Fahsa, or Ghalaba. I also tried their lamb chops, actually came out perfect medium rare and juicy. Server was great wish he was more knowledgeable about the menu. Most Arabic restaurant lack in great servers but overall great place.
google avatar

Siobhan J.

Yelp
We found a new gem in Hamtramack! Look at this platter of heaven..... they call it the "Mediterranean Platter for 2" more like 6! Dan and I will get at least 2 lunches each out of the leftovers. Oh .... and the pita bread, out of this world. Note the 3rd picture, that is what we took home! That is an 12X8X2 inch pan of all platter ingredients, plus a bag of hummus, garlic sauce, yogurt sauce and pita bread.
google avatar

Ahmed A.

Yelp
The best restaurant around Michigan. Very clean and friendly service. The food was really really amazing ,I went their so many times with friends, families. They also take care of all occasions. I recommend this place for everyone.
google avatar

Nasser S.

Yelp
Nice restaurant and very good Yemeni food everyone should try it out.
google avatar

Emad A.

Yelp
I eat a lot of different food but this yemeni food has a special taste to it the way the food is cooked is very delicious. The lamb haneeth was awesome. They also have the best lamb chop i ever had.
google avatar

Mohamad F.

Yelp
Amazing food here! Had the Fahsah for the first time and it was amazing! Its was a lamb stew that sits in a really hot stone bowl. So much flavor and so good. We also got a platter for 4 and it was so good. The haneeth lamb and mangoul lamb (boiled) was so tasty and just so good. You can tell everything was so fresh. Make sure you guys check in on Yelp as there is a 20% off coupon. Amazing good. We will be back
google avatar

Areej H.

Yelp
You're in a city with so many amazing arabic(Yemeni) restaurants- don't settle for less! This place is nice and clean but the food is horribly made! Not authentic at all!

Younis H.

Yelp
Down grade in service and food quality. Waitresses are not aware whats in the menu we had to place the order twice with two different waitresses.
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Thank God there are no pictures of the food in neon hanging over the counter! Finally an Arab restaurant in this area that's not a kebob take out joint! A real sit down restaurant with great food and helpful service! What a concept! And The food Is delightful! I had a hummus plate with just-baked bread and a Plate Of falafel as well with pickled Vegetables. Enjoy it!

Chedly B.

Yelp
my first time in Remas it's very clean restaurant,we had 2 lamb haneeth with my friend the taste of the food was delicious and freshly The waitress greeting as with beautiful smile And by the way I'm a sever and I will go back

Maha A.

Yelp
First time here and it was a great experience. Very nice service and complimentary soup. I had the Remas Zestly Gallaba. It was good! We also had the fahsa with their fresh warm bread and spicy sauce. That was really good.
