Love the clothes here but guess I should’ve read the review first. The bald guy with tattoo on his arm was straight out rude. Was in the fitting room with a vest and lift the curtain to ask my friend if I should adjust the belt of the vest. Dude just walked towards us and slashed open the curtain with arm waving over my head without saying anything(I am female). Then he started looking inside the fitting room to find an excuse to pick on us and questioning us where the hangers. After I pointed where it is exactly at he started saying “You need to put the hangers back with the clothes” as if I haven’t done that already to the dozens of clothes I took a look at. Dude should just leave me alone and I would have loved this place. Like the other reviewer said. Sorry for my patronage yeah?

I ALWAYS find something to wear for a themed night out. Weather it's mermaids, pirates, or a cool boho look, this store has it all. The parasols are great, jewelry is fashionable, harem pants are of a great quality, and they have tons of other accessories to complete your look. It's not a costume, it's a lifestyle.

The staff will make ANY excuse to open the changing room curtains on young female shoppers. When my friend and I reported this to the management, they assured us that the person (who had walked in on my friend naked) was a temporary worker and they would handle the situation. After checking the Google and yelp reviews, I see that this has been going on for YEARS. Very upsetting. Do not go here and don’t give them your money.

I had the worst shopping experience of my life! Do not go to that store!!!! I was trying a jacket on, and been walking in the store to try to match a pants or hat to the jacket, and the guy in the store says, if you’re not buying the jacket just put it down so other people can try it too, I’m like what?! However, I ended up buying this jacket and a hat, but the they was walking after me in the store and looking at me while I’m trying the clothes like I’m a thief! What a horrible shopping experience! To be honest, after leaving the store I regretted that I purchased the jacket from these people.

I love this store - and the fact that it has been a go-to-source for reasonably priced vintage since 1975. Every time I visit NYC, this is on my list of must-stop stores. The owners aren't particularly friendly, but the two sales people I have dealt with are delightful and helpful. I especially love their selection of sterling silver jewelry. I almost hate to divulge this, but their silver pieces are more reasonably priced than any other vintage store in NYC. They also sell quirky, inexpensive loose jewels that I have used in my collages. If you're looking for an adult size Halloween costume, Reminiscence won't disappoint.

the selection of clothes is ver cute. as someone who constantly likes to look for unique pieces and accessories this is the place i wish i could enjoy. unfortunately the Staff makes it really hard for you to enjoy the shopping experience. i think ill go one last time just to tell them off because its not fair to treat costumers like theives. the man is practically breathing down your neck, and the blonde woman looks like she hates the next person slightly more. No one asks if you need help or are looking for something. sorry to inconvenience you with my patronage

This store has such a great collection across clothes & accessories. Since the clothes are a bit costume-y, I wouldn’t go here for that (some leather pants looked chic though). Instead I loved their accessories like jewelry, hats, boots, scarfs, vest etc.

Honestly, the clothing is mediocre at best and everything the reviews say about the staff is true. As someone who works in nyc retail, I understand how exhausting dealing with people can be, but there is no excuse for the outright rudeness I’ve experienced the many many times I’ve been here.

I love this store but I had a creepy experience trying on an outfit the other day. The dressing rooms are small compartments with curtains for doors. There is usually an employee standing in front to count garments but I didn't see one, so I entered a dressing room with two items and pulled the curtain. Immediately a male voice said, "Excuse me!", flung open the curtain, stepped into the tiny cubicle with me, literally crowding me against the wall, took the garments from me and showed me how to hang them on the hooks, one on one hook, the other on the other hook. It was bizarre and it's been bothering me. I tried to call rather than leave a review but the number is out of order.

I started shopping at Reminiscence when I was in high school. I've always loved vintage and unique looks, although most events in my life have required "normal" clothes. The selection is...interesting. I was very excited by a pale pink leather jacket for $60, but when I tried it on, I looked like a linebacker. I did find some fun plastic necklaces for $5 each, and I'm wearing all three of them together. I also found a "gold" link necklace. I rarely wear costume jewelry, but when I do, it's obviously fake. Reminiscence has extremely civilized hours. They open late-ish and close late-ish. The cashier was friendly. They have a fun selection of new socks, old hats, and racks of clothes arranged by category (jackets, pants, dresses), but not by size. Most items seem to be either $30 or $60.

I really wanted to like this store, but the staff made me VERY uncomfortable. I was followed almost the entire time as I was looking around and just generally felt unwelcome. There are plenty of other stores in the area that have the exact same products without the attitude problem. I suggest you don't waste your time here!

I Loved the Overalls back in the 70's and 80's and love them now! The last time I spoke to Joan and purchased my 3rd pair as of December the phone number was working, but today, march 14, 2024, the phone was disconnected. I am trying to reach them to purchase another pair of overalls. anyone know how I can reach someone?

Pre-COVID: Wandering around looking for random costume pieces, someone recommended this place to me. It's like a consignment store, costume shop, and a Spencer's-esque novelty store combined. Wigs, hats, masquerade masks, monster makeup, fangs, scarves, belts, marching band hats, top hats, cheap plastic glitter hats, funky vintage sweaters, bangle bracelets, chunky statement necklaces, funny socks, platform shoes, trippy mens jackets, tutus, prom dresses, rave leggings, handheld video games, pins, evening gloves, thigh high fishnets in various colors, toys, tchotchkes, etc. I found a couple of things I was looking for but didn't stumble upon any new discoveries. It's an odds and ends mishmash in there, a fun store but nothing so striking that I couldn't leave without it. But they do have a gorgeous store cat who has silky soft fur. Pet her!

Aaah, I have been in twice in as many weeks during this visit to NYC because this place holds a special, nostalgic spot in my heart. The service was hit AND miss--the first time, the gentleman at the door made small talk with me as I shopped. The second time, today, he greeted me, but I got the aforementioned poor customer service from the blonde curmudgeon with the glasses. I got what I came for... not sure I'll be coming back though.

After looking through the comments section I don't think I'm alone in this problem with the blonde lady with glasses. When I checked out today she clearly didn't treat me like a customer. First she ignored my greetings, and then after I thanked her, she said okay in an extremely unremitting manner, and before I did she greeted the previous customers with enthusiasm. I don't want to accuse anyone of racism for no reason, but I would love for her to explain the look of disdain she gave me when she saw me considering she was just smiling at the privious customer.

The blonde glass lady has no idea how to treat a costumer and acts rudely during the whole checkout time.

"Meh. I've experienced better" in the words of Yelp. I've only been in here maybe 3 times in 3 years but every time I popped in (I LOVE Halloween and thrift stores) there is either a cat (yuck, super allergic), or just strange people from another planet working there with condescending attitudes who are simultaneously devoid of any social skills. The "meh" is enough to make me never set foot in there again. Also overpriced for what it is. Go to Goodwill or Beacon's Closet nearby.

Stumbled into this store while strolling and contemplating what I would do for a last minute Halloween outfit that I had in mind. Well, it was the best serendipitous 'last-minute-Halloween-shopping' experience I've ever had! The store had a plethora of options to choose from, the displays offered lots of suggestive outfits, the items were organized and in great shape, (They have a fitting room!) the staff was very helpful, and to top it all off, the prices were reasonable! With all of this, who cares if they don't offer refunds. The give you all of the accommodations you need to be sure that you want to make the purchase. Oh, My! if you need to assemble any type of outfit for a themed party or event, whether you're sure of what you want or not, this is the first stop you should make. Why? ...because the variety, quality and pricing is at the top of the competitive list of any other place you may have in mind to shop. If you don't believe me, stop in and see for yourself. Enjoy!

Long story short- GO TO MONK (williamsburg) instead. Could not be more upset and turned off by this store, and the staff is the main reason why. I stopped by yesterday, as I always do after I finish finding amazing things at all the other "cool" shops surrounding this shop and I will never be back. Im actually surprised it isn't closed, as I never see more than 3 people in here at a time. From the overpriced mardi gras accessories to the fake deceptive overpriced vintage pieces, I could almost blame myself for being attracted to the window display enough times to actually step foot in this next level dollar general . It doest help that although I could pass as a curious high-schooler, I wasn't taken serious from the minute I entered the store. Turned off immediately; I decided that moment that I wouldn't spend a rusted dime in this very cheesy establishment. The kicker was the older tall white/hispanic salesman literally parallel followed me the ENTIRE TIME peeking through the opposite racks at me, until I snapped at him and I mean SNAPPED. I told the older woman/owner how offended and uncomfortable I felt and she ignored me. Not worth anymore of my time I decided to just vent to yelp. bottom line: very cheesy, cheap costume dollar store with horrible customer service and overpriced claires accessories .

This is the best store to get all the bye gone days items...from collectibles...lunch boxes of super heroes , to candy dots on a long white paper.......plus gag gifts..........just make sure you will stop by and see for yourself.

This place is amazing for costumes, off the wall gifts, vintage - their prices are right, but when they have a sale, the savings will make you feel criminal. Just a quick rundown of what you might find here: corsets, hoop skirts and crimoline skirts formal gowns - wedding, prom, medieval, etc wigs, hats, boas, scarves, horse heads (I know, right?) military type attire awful Christmas sweaters crazy loud outfits bacon & mustache print bandaids cute and unique vintage shoes, clothing & accessories loads of gag gifts & adorable knick knacks - many of which I have never seen anywhere else but want to own them all I have other stuff to do so I have to cut this review short, but this place is great; my new favorite shop for all things theatrical and whimsical. And their staff is really kind, knowledgeable and helpful. There's a man that works there named Jewel and he truly lives up to his namesake. Enjoy!

This store has a wide selection of vintage clothes and collectibles. I like looking at vintage Western shirts.

Came in here again the other day because a friend wanted to look for a bday gift for her mom after checking beacons... middle aged guy who worked at the store was COMPLETELY wasted! Obviously drunk, talking to us and other customers. Crazy stuff. This place is wild.

I used to love shopping here, until I had an awful encounter with the older blonde woman with glasses. Before this encounter, I was a frequent shopper here, so after a month-long hiatus, I was excited to return to reminiscence to check out the new selection of things. However, my enthusiasm dwindled when I began being hovered and followed by the blonde woman, who, not only was dismissive towards me, when I had greeted her and asked her how she was doing (since she was staring very intensely and hatefully at me) but also shoved me in order to get into a utility closet. Honestly, I'm not sure if she is the owner of this business, but I certainly felt very unwelcomed and singled out. Normally, the staff is very smiley and inviting, but my experience today was enough for me to decide I will never return to this establishment. I don't need to be treated like a princess, but no one needs to be treated like dirt either. Don't waste your time here. You will easily find better options at No Relations and Beacon's closet for a much more affordable price. Also, rags-a-go go is a great spot to check out with a much more organized layout. Not to mention, you'll find that the owner at rags-a-Gogo is much more helpful and extremely friendly.

My favy store in the city, brings back retro times, great clothes reminds of teh 70's and I didn't even exist back then. Nice accessories and best of all eccentric. it's kinda like something small and sweet. Artistic is the w ord.Like a mama and papa place. Astinishing and astounding.

I agree with everyone else's reviews in terms of merchandise. I've found some real treasures here. HOWEVER, I went in last week and the woman working was a real joke. She was rude when I asked if there were any sale items ("You can't get vintage denim like THIS for THIS price anywhere else! What sales could you possibly be looking for?"), tried to sell me things I didn't want, and even insulted my intelligence (figuring out which train to take to Brooklyn, her telling me the J was the only train I could take.) Your retail establishment isn't the time or place to do any of those things. I was completely turned off, and I'm not going back.

Reminisce, reminisce, reminisce! (in my Mary J voice) I kind of forgot that this place closed from their 23rd street spot over a year ago until I stumbled upon their "new" spot this week. I was sooo happy to see they were a little further downtown and pretty close to Union Square! Unlike Beacon's, this place is pretty much all real vintage (you won't see Zara tops or H&M) and pretty affordable. When I shopped here at a college student in my early 20's I would get ponchos and funny knit dresses (which I still have!), these days I was looking for long vintage dresses and skirts. I must say most of the sizes are pretty small to "average", but a lot of things were either too narrow for my hips or too large. That didn't stop me from trying on about 5 dresses though. I ended up walking out with a great vintage top from the mid 80's that I've already worn twice and a fun tooled leather belt I really (really!) needed. They have a good selection of men's and women's clothing, shoes, hats and vintage accessories like bags and wallets too. I would suspect this place gets crazy during Halloween, because these pieces are pretty authentic. You won't really break the bank here, with most items costing about $35-70. They had great leather jackets for around $48, which isn't bad, considering it's like having someone shop for you, so it's worth the extra cost I think. I"ll be back when I don't have a backpack full of catfood and textbooks to weigh me down.

this place was awesome! i walked in not planning to shop, but i found 3 really cute skirts that made my afternoon. the staff was friendly, and there's a bunch of cool clothing options to browse! def check out this store

This place was like walking into a gold mine for me and unfortunately for my friend he may of been less than amused when I asked him "would you mind if I look around for a minute" Well, the minute turned into an hour almost... SO MUCH TOO LOOK AT and so well organized as well, by year, style etc etc.... Had I a larger suitcase I would have brought back so much more to California with me. This place is so fantastic! I love it.. Scored on some fringe poncho's and butterfly caftan like mini dresses. Staff is great and the cat though I am allergic was so adorable...

This place discriminated against a guy because he was I guess black. I was in the store shopping for items for a gig when I heard her tell him he had to leave for no apparent reason other than the fact he was black.. I can't say this is a good establishment..

I found the price ridiculously good for the product! Usually vintage styles and customs costs three four times more. Service are super friendly, u can try everything on and they never push u into buying anything. Thumb up and I'll def be a regular here!

I'd hate to open the flood gates on this one. Especially with Halloween right around the corner because, well, this place is the perfect place to scoop up your costume, if you're into being unique that is. The front is adorned with typical stuff you might find in Urban Outfitters; quirky books, inflatable unicorn heads and the oh-so-trendy at the moment animal masks but the back is where the real treasure lies. Lots of vintage and unique shoes, some recycled halloween costumes, lace table cloths and hankies, jewelry etc. Perhaps my fav finds are the vintage wedding dresses, beautiful long flowing dresses in almost perfect condition - vampire bride anyone? So there ya go, skip Ricky's go to Reminiscence.

This is a great place. For me it's a reminiscence of a reminiscence as the shop closed then reopened. Back in the day, I spotted none other than CLAIRE DANES. My friend bought the sweater she touched (I know, I know), but hey, I don't judge. They have some cool vintage clothes and the prices are unbeatable. It's really rare to find a FAIRLY priced (shocking!) vintage clothing store in NYC. And there's some real gems hidden in there.

This place had great selection of costumes. I found my Chinese dress here in great shape for a great price! I wore it to a Chinese New Year party!

This place is a little pricey but not compared to the area and the selection is amazing! The best place to browse and if you're a fan of gag gifts, you will definitely want to visit. Amazing costumes, vintage, and funky accessories.

Great for one-of-a-kind gifts, non-tacky costumes, and general fabulousness. Incredible deals on vintage/retro fashion without the snootiness. I miss the cat (RIP) who lived at the old location. Love, love.
