Remota

"The pretty Patagonian fishing village of Puerto Natales is isolated from the rest of Chile by remote fjords, canals and inlets that jut inland almost to the country’s eastern frontier. The port fronts Last Hope Sound, its skies whirl with skuas, petrels and albatrosses, while 75 miles inland lie the glacier-riven peaks of Torres del Paine national park. Amid this ode to nature, Remota hits the first-time visitor as a shock. Iconoclastic Chilean architect Germán del Sol set out to create a structure that provokes powerful reactions. Threading across the lush earth in a harsh, dark band, its blackened wood-and-felt exterior echoes the basalt strata that lace the Torres del Paine massif. Weight-bearing spars are skewed off-vertically, giant ventilation shafts protrude violently, windows are cut jagged like shards of broken glass. The 72 ample rooms, outfitted in slate, untreated wood, and vibrant sunflower yellow, zigzag downwards with the slope of the earth; between them, glacial boulders are strewn across an 80-yard grass courtyard. A factory-sized building houses lobby, reading rooms and restaurant (locally-caught seafood is a specialty), furnished with low-slung sofas, stone fugón fireplaces, and indigenous pottery and basketware. The impressive spa features two 10-person saunas (mirrored windows allow occupants an outside view), outdoor jacuzzis and a raised, 50-foot grey-slate infinity pool that reflects Patagonia’s constantly changing skies. When to Go: Patagonia’s weather is fickle, even in the December-February summer. Which room to book: All rooms are of equal size: opt between views of Last Hope Sound or distant Torres del Paine."

Overall a good experience. We opted for the all inclusive package which i am not sure i would do again. Lunch/dinner menu remained same all 4 days we were there. Bath tub was very hard to get in and out of. Otherwise rooms were nice and spacious. Location was reasonable to get to national park and great proximity to airport. Had great experience with guides used by the resort.

very pretty but not very practical. Extremely disappointed and overall not impressed. Restaurant was unavailable!! as the clue is in the name, the 'remoteness' of this hotel means you have to drive into town to get dinner. Staff were verging on rude in explaining this and generally not terribly helpful. Little things as well like no robes to go access the pool, the pool was not open until 10:00am and therefore the sauna and hot tub were not hot! As this was booked as a post trek treat, limited access to the sauna was also very disappointing. A single seat in the room clearly designed for 2 people (and an uncomfortable wooden cube at that). etc. wifi only in public areas - which were indeed quite comfortable. The breakfast was nice. But overall this was poor value for money.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience but feel it could be bettered. Not having internet access in the bedroom (when we wanted to keep in touch with family) was a downside for us. NoTV in the bedroom was not an issue but it would have been nice to have a comfortable chair with a suitable light for reading in the room. Lighting in the bathroom also could be improved. A covered walkway from the spa to the main area of the hotel is a must to make it accessible for all. Food and general service at the hotel was good.

An Experience That Left Much to Be Desired||We fell into a trap by choosing this hotel. At first glance, the magnificent view and harmonious architecture with nature are impressive. However, this exterior beauty hides a series of shortcomings that make the stay frustrating.||The hotel's distance from the city is a significant drawback. The transfer service, besides being charged at exorbitant prices, is operated by rude drivers, turning a simple trip into a true discomfort. Since this is a transfer offered by the hotel (albeit for a fee), one would expect the driver to have at least some information about the hotel, such as meal times. However, not only did he not know the schedules, but he also responded in a rude manner, which is unacceptable.||The tours offered are also scandalously overpriced, costing nearly double what is available in the city, leaving us feeling exploited.||The service at the reception is, at best, disappointing. The impression is that the staff are there merely out of obligation, with a blasé attitude suggesting they are doing us a favor by assisting us. This lack of cordiality is disheartening and does not align with what one expects from an establishment of this caliber.||Additionally, the absence of porters and an elevator is a significant oversight for guests, especially those with mobility issues or heavy luggage. The hotel structure, which could be a positive differentiator, ends up becoming a hindrance.||While the lunch and dinner menu is of good quality and reasonably priced, the lack of options for those who do not wish for a full meal or alcoholic beverages is an unacceptable limitation. Furthermore, the hotel claims to provide 24-hour service, but this information is misleading. The hours are strict: lunch is served from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, and when we arrived at 2:00 PM after a five-hour journey, there was nothing to eat. Snacks are served only from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and dinner occurs from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The breakfast, equally limited, is served from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Even after explaining that we hadn’t eaten since 5 AM, no exceptions were made.||Lastly, the internet connection is only reasonable, further compromising the experience for those who need to stay connected.||In summary, this hotel has potential, but the lack of attention to detail and disregard for guest comfort make it a difficult choice to recommend. The beauty of the location does not compensate for the numerous failures in the services provided. An experience that, instead of relaxing, left a bitter taste. For the price charged per night, there are much better and more interesting options available. I do not recommend this hotel!

The location and the views from this hotel are all great. The rooms are nice and clean as well. The restaurant staff and service is also wonderful. The reason for 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is really the front desk service. No one offered to help with luggage either checking in or checking out. Their front doors are heavy and with big luggages, coming through rain and that strong Patagonia wind from outside, you can clearly tell people struggle through those doors while the staff comfortably wait behind the desk and watch you struggle. Also the front desk staff is not very knowledgeable so asking them information about transfers and the town is not very helpful. Unfortunately front desk of a hotel is the first impression you get and last impression you leave with.

We stayed only one night here enroute to Torres del Paine in a standard room. The hotel is located outside of the township of Puerto Natales. Loved the architecture of this hotel. We had dinner here which was excellent and the breakfast buffet very good. Service from reception, bar and restaurant very good. Highly recommend.

I stayed at the Hotel Remota for several days before and after a trip to Torres del Paine National Park. The Hotel is located on a fjord that eventually feeds out to the Pacific Ocean and is roughly one mile from downtown Puerto Natales. The location at the top of a hill overlooking the fjord is perfect for viewing sunsets and looking north at mountains toward the Park. The room was comfortable although the lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim. The shower is a bathtub/shower combination so anyone having difficulty stepping over the edge of the tub would need to be careful. The fact that wi-fi is only available in the public areas of the hotel is a minor inconvenience. There are no TV's in the room. Since I was there to go hiking and take tours of glaciers there lack of TV was not really an issue. I enjoyed the restaurant but keep in mind that the Hotel does not have a snack bar, if you need food during hours the restaurant is not open you'll need to head into town (there was actually a restaurant within a couple hundred yards of the hotel). Taxi rates for running into town were pretty reasonable but you needed to build in at least ten minutes for a taxi to get to the Hotel.

Built in 2007, this is an architectural marvel. The interior design is fabulous and funky.||Still, it has downsides: |1) Wi-Fi is only available in the common areas, and the pool doesn't have Wi-Fi either.|They say they want guests to disconnect and get "in tune with nature." |That's fine for a yoga retreat or a cheap hotel. |They shouldn't impose digital detox values on international clients who must communicate with their loved ones (or business associates). |I wonder if they're trying to save money.||2) Many guests must traverse a long corridor open to the cold air to access the main building. And everyone has to go outside to access the pool. ||If they add Wi-Fi to all the rooms, you'll get a 5-star experience.
