At the Allison Inn & Spa, Siletz Chef Jack Strong Explores Native Food | Eater Portland

"In downtown Phoenix I noted that Strong spent two years as the chef at the Renaissance, part of a stretch of resort and hotel roles he took while moving between the Southwest and the Pacific Northwest." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

we experienced an emergency power outage during our recent stay (planned 1-2 days in advance of the outage). staff did not inform us about this at check-in, there was a piece of paper under our door to tell us about it. we were part of a wedding party and not everyone in our group received the notification. there was no email or communication otherwise. we spoke with several staff members before finally connecting to cody, who was awesome and helped us get a night comped -- thanks cody! before we reached cody, we spoke with several staff members who didn't know about it and during the outage, we could not get into our room and a staff member told us "there was really not much else they could do." for the price of this hotel, communication should be top notch, especially in an emergency situation and especially in the middle of the night. was pretty disappointed by that and grateful we were able to get comped. location was good and all housekeeping staff was really friendly and helpful. art and decor was impressive and local to the region.

Rooms were clean, service was kind, location was great for the conference. I didn’t love the construction I wasn’t informed of happening next door, the non natural fiber sheets had me sweating, and my AC stopped working on my last night. The lobby Reno is super nice, but the rooms feel a little dated especially the bathroom.

Google
It was a pleasant place to stay. The lobby and staff were excellent. The rooms were lack luster. It was nice, but there were a few quirks. It's a long term hotel, with no microwave or decent sized fridges. The "desk" for doing office work had no plug ins nearby. The desk and chair worked but was very uncomfortable for a few hours of sitting. The room was clean and comfortable though.

I attended a conference here recently. This hotel's best assets are the staff - just wonderful! Ken at the front desk was especially helpful, along with a couple of other ladies (didn't get their names)! Our room was clean and comfortable, however, the bathroom needs work. Whenever we took a shower water leaked out onto the floor. Fortunately, the housekeeping staff was amazing and helped us to keep plenty of large towels in our room to soak up all of the water. Very poor shower design. I heard other conference attendees say their bathroom had the exact same problem. The bed was very comfortable, and it was really nice to have a fridge that maintained an ice cold temp. The very large TV was also a plus. We made good use of the swimming pool - it's not large, but it was clean and especially nice to go to at night. There are a lot of good restaurants within close walking distance in all price ranges, as well as a grocery store. Chase Field is also a super easy 10 minute walk.

This hotel was clean and very nice. The lobby bar is great with excellent service. The concierge lounge was open 7 days per week with great options. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The only disappointment was the rooftop pool. There’s no food or drink service and it’s very outdated versus the rest of the hotel. Overall, a great stay!

Google
The Renaissance is lovely. The only complaint I have is that the connecting doors to neighboring rooms are very thin and I could basically hear every word in the room next door. I don't know whether that's a widespread problem or not. Otherwise the hotel and room were beautiful.

Google
We came to Phoenix and stayed for a week. What a beautiful and pleasant day! The hotel is beautiful! Location is perfect to get to anywhere under 20 mins. The rooms were clean and spacious. What we really loved was the food!! We took advantage of the credit we get as Marriott Bonvoy Platinum and looooved the hummus and the wings! Everything we tried was very tasty! The service was excellent too! The lounge was sooo beautiful! We totally loved our stay! Will definitely pick this place again if we come to Phoenix.

Google
My room is literally amazing. The service was impeccable. I will definitely be back. The gym is pretty big for hotel standards. The pool was nice, except don’t expect to see the sun hit it in October. I sat in the courtyard to catch some rays. Service 10/10.

Yelp
We (the family) were in between flights to the west coast and needed a stopover spot that was nice, not too expensive and clean. This is the place to go near the airport and it was surprisingly nice! Super friendly at the desk for weary travelers and set us up with adjoining rooms and baggage handling. We grabbed a bite and some drinks nearby then returned to enjoy a four star quality room and comfy beds. In room fridge... Much more appealing than the adjacent Holiday Inn... You won't be disappointed!! Enjoy this tip for where to stay!! Ciao

Yelp
What an improvement in customer service from 5 months ago! We were greeted with a smile and KEN at the front desk is AMAZING! He gave information on the best restaurants around sights to see. Room was clean and quiet. We really enjoyed the view. Again, this is in the heart of downtown so there are many places to explore. If ever in the area, please give them a try!

Yelp
This is for the lackluster valet parking. I pulled up for an event and had them park my car. When the attendant gave me the ticket (a fellow maybe in his 40's who seemed to be "in charge") he said it was CASH ONLY. And proceeded to point me toward the ATM way down the hall inside the hotel. I just did what he said. However, I didn't have any cash, nor did I have my debit card. Only a credit card. Which I didn't have a PIN for. So I spent 15 minutes screwing around with my bank trying to set up a pin for my credit card so I could use the ATM. After the event, I see a ticket machine by the door. It gave the option to pay valet parking via credit card. As soon as I went over there, said attendant came running in to help me. When I grilled him on his earlier lies, he hemmed and hawed. He just lied his way out of that cash tip he was gunning for. I'll call his bosses now and complain.

Yelp
Renaissance Downtown Phoenix Hotel is located approximately 10 minutes away from Sky Harbor International Airport. Simple and contemporary design, this hotel was booked because of the amount of conventions Phoenix is encountering in the month of February. Fortunately, rooms were available while in Phoenix on business. This hotel is very clean and comfortable, the fragrant scent of the hotel lobby totally reminds me of the white tea scent in Westin Hotels. I didn't get to use all the facilities as this was a short 30 hour stay, my workout was more ideal by going to EOS Fitness nearby, and many food options in Downtown Phoenix. My room had a queen bed, mini fridge, large Smart TV, black out curtains, medium size bathroom with plenty of counter space, standup shower, extra towels, coffee maker, iron & ironing board, office desk, equipped with central air con and very secured elevator. Front desk was extremely warm and welcoming with assistance for my Marriot Bonvoy account to earn points for room charges and incidentals. Nearby eateries such as Chipotle, Nick The Greek, Seamus McCaffrey's, Five Guys Burger, and many more. At the time of check-out very early in the morning, Starbucks is also located downstairs which opens at 5:30am until 5pm. Everyone should make Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel your choice of stay in the heart of the CBD. Offering an ideal location near attractions, including the Phoenix Convention Center, Chase Field, Footprint Center Arena, Phoenix Art Museum. Theater District, and Rosevelt Row Arts District. When or if I'm back again, I'd love to discover the newly opened NATUROPATHICA Day Spa. Also would treat myself to Southwestern cuisine at Dust Cutter. Hotel is also equipped with high-speed WiFi access, self parking garage and valet service.

Yelp
What a cluster of a check-in process to not have rooms ready in time. Our company booked a bunch of rooms and some people arrived AFTER me and got rooms while I was still waiting in the lobby for mine. All the rooms were the same so their process needs fixed. Give rooms to the people that arrive first! The room layout was odd with weird angles to the bathroom with an armoire behind the sink giving the whole room a cramped feel. I was by myself so it wasn't terrible but there are more people in the room, then oh man, you'll be touching cheeks moving around. It's convenient to the convention center with about a block of outdoor walking, so that's a plus. The lobby was huge (so killing time there wasn't terrible) and the restaurant/bar in the lobby was pretty good and not overly crowded. Great Old Fashioned! I wouldn't stay here again unless I was forced to, mostly because of the unhelpful staff at the front desk (probably not their fault, but the system is terrible). The Kimpton a few blocks away was much nicer.

Yelp
Convenient location. Renovated rooms. Friendly staff. Tiny fitness center but hotel guests get free access to EoS Fitness a couple blocks away. On-site restaurant and Starbucks.

Yelp
We stayed at the Renaissance last year during the Fan Fusion convention, and it was an awesome stay. We decided to come back because we had such a positive experience - when you walk out the front doors of the hotel, you practically walk right into the security gates of the convention. So we booked again for this year for the Fan Fusion and had really high hopes and excitement because we like staying here. Same as last time... all of the staff are very friendly, the rooms are clean and nice. What I did not expect was for them to be renovating the hotel on the 18th floor and our room to be on the 14th floor and hearing it all day long. I had planned for some relaxing time in the room to nap, lounge, watch TV but the sound of the renovation coming from 4 floors above has given me a headache. I called the front desk and they said the renovation should be done at 5 PM. However, they did start again on Saturday at 9 AM and they seemed to have ended for the day around lunchtime. I am just really bummed out with this part of the experience for Friday especially because I was exhausted and was planning on a long, quiet nap. What I thought would be a nice weekend staycation in my room with plenty of naps... mixed with a couple hours here and there at the convention center has turned into a bit more of a stress and less relaxing than I had hoped for.

Yelp
Cleaning!!! They need to buy a vacuum, need to check the rooms and hold staff accountable . 5 day stay and NEVER saw or heard a vacuum anywhere. Our bathroom Sink was stopped up and body hairs were in our shower .Tub in our daughters room had body hairs in It too! They did come and clean shower and tub as well as getting the sink to drain after we reported it. Should have asked them to vacuum. I removed peanuts and some sort of dried up food before I took pictures. I am really unimpressed with Marriott. We asked for an hour extension and because we were bonvoy we could stay an extra hour. BUT DURING THAT hour "housekeeping " kept knocking on doors of both rooms every 10 minutes. I was a nervous wreck trying to pack . do not disturb was hanging on doors! So wonder what happens if you use your free nights stay!!!

Yelp
Came here for a week for work. It's very close to the convention center and there are walk ways through the middle of buildings and block to get from here to the convention center quickly. It's also central to all the downtown restaurants, making it walkable to any restaurant within a few blocks. The property is pretty big, with 19 floors. There's a lounge on the 19th floor for those with status. The lounge is decent, offering breakfast in the morning and snacks throughout the day. Checking in was decent. The guy who checked me in seemed to take a very long time to look for a room, but he was friendly and hit all the marks checking me in. My room was nice, interesting that the wardrobe and hangers are in the sink area of the bathroom, but it worked. TV channels and streaming was excellent. Bed was comfy. Shower worked and drained well. The valet staff were great. Staff I talked to were all friendly as well. There's a FedEx on the lower level, if you need to ship/receive anything. The FedEx location doesn't open until 9AM, but the front desk has the ability to get in to get your packages. The only issue was probably housekeeping, which was a mixed bag. They really do a crappy job keeping the room tidy and refreshing it daily. They forgot something each day (soap, more water, to make the bed, swapping all the towels, etc). Would I stay here again? Yes, definitely! Nice property!

Yelp
We dropped off some visiting friends at this hotel. This. Hotel is located in the heart of downtown Phoenix. The valet and staff members are outside assisting arriving and departing customers. They were very gracious and helpful. They have their own self and valet parking and WiFi.
google avatar

Yelp
The hotel itself wasn't bad at all. Very nice lobby. My main complaint is valet parking. The person was extremely rude and said "well I don't have space for your car!" Although cars after me were able to get valet parking. I found it absolutely uncalled for and not professional at all.

Sarah W.

Yelp
I wasn't staying at the hotel this trip but stopped by for breakfast and after a slight problem, Jonathan Miller stepped in to made everything right. My server Jada was also amazing. A+ customer service from the two of them. Thank you both for making my last morning in town so wonderful. P.S. The food was DELICIOUS !!!!!!

Yelp
The location is great in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Walking distance to all we needed. I didn't give 5 stars because I felt like our room needed a remodel and my daughter's necklace went missing after our room was cleaned. It was a busy weekend because we were there for a big volleyball tournament. There was also an international soccer tournament in the area and the Columbia players stayed at our hotel. So it was kind of loud with their fans outside the hotel. I would say the hotel was fine for what it was. The only thing I would note is that valet parking is $42. We were there for 4 nights and didn't need to use our car so we parked in self parking caddy corner, to the hotel for $30 a day. We ended up paying $120 total and saved a little. But if we planned on moving our car we would have used the valet as with self parking you're charged coming and going.

Yelp
A clean, well kept, with friendly staff hotel in the heart of downtown. In walkable distance to so many great options: food, bars, stadiums, and more. The room layout is nice, and the appliances are well kept, and details are noticed by housekeeping. As a note for those who may want pool time in the sun, you may only capture a glimpse of the sun so keep that in mind! (We didn't catch any when we checked the periodically around early afternoon and early evening). I would definitely stay here again when visiting downtown Phoenix.

Yelp
My 1st Cousin was in town checking up on me and was staying down here, so we decided to stop here for breakfast to get me outdoors. The first thing that I noticed was that they a great valet parking crew as all of the guys were really nice and fast. The hotel is at the end of downtown and easy to find. They also have parking meters surrounding the hotel. The front desk staff were nice and helpful. The lobby was great dimmed lighting, (not bright) thankfully, clean and spacious with lots of seating and has nice clean furniture. They also had a working area with charging ports. Noone was using em otherwise, I would've asked someone there for a charger. I will definitely stay here. The location is a bit pushed back in downtown, but, it's still within walking distance to restaurants and events. The bathroom kinda spooked me out when I went in to wash my hands as they have an owl sound effect, constantly going off. Creepy actually! My complaint, is regarding the gift shop located in this hotel. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE!!! I usually try to support all business owners but this experience was beyond disturbing! I was wearing a heart monitor the type that connects to a call center, and it was beeping since it needed the base to be charged to continue reading my heart regulation and in case 911 was needed. I ran into this gift shop to ask if they could borrow me a charger that perhaps one of the employees had, to fit the device (after checking the restaurant and hotel staff). I asked if they could plug it in for me for 5 min as I left my charger at home thinking I had it with me. I asked if they had one at a reasonable price after staff claimed to not have a charger with them. The staff in the store, including management, told me that they sold the charger, she opened the box to confirm it was the correct charger. I asked that since she broke the seal and opened it, if I could use it for 5 min only since I didn't need to purchase another charger and that $45 is steep. I would have purchased it, if it were reasonable but I honestly didn't need another charger and only needed a 5 min charge. The cost approx $45.... for a freaking cell phone charger. Sheesh ‍ I explained that, I only needed at least 5 min and nothing more, since the monitor charged fast and that 5 min would last, until I went home where my charger was. Remember: SHE ALREADY BROKE THE SEAL AND OPENED THE BOX..I literally BEGGED them for 5 min since they already opened the box and even offered to pay for 5 min( I was NOT PAYING $45 FOR A $12 CHARGER)! THAT'S CRAZY AS HXXX!!! THE STAFF HEARD MY HEART MONITOR BEEPING LIKE CRAZY and Iexplainedhaving to wear it and why it was beeping like crazy and loud... THEY DECLINED TO CHARGE IT FOR ME. I COULD'VE FALLEN DEAD ON THE FLOOR RIGHT IN THEIR PRESENCE, THEY DIDN'T CARE!!! ‍ ‍ I understand that, it's a business but, this was a health issue in which, I was begging for help related and they could've helped!!! Customer service and ETHICS, in some establishments, are GONE! The WORLD has gone mad, It's sickening!!! Thankfully... God was with me, and I was able to find a Angel who came into the restaurant and who just happened to have a charger and he allowed for me to use it even offering to wait until it was fully charged. Thanks to my ANGEL I was saved!!! ‍ In the meanwhile, this gift store should honestly seek training! I could see if she hadn't opened the box and not dingle it like a carrot in front of me, but she opened the merch. PATHETIC!!! I suggest getting a new STAFF to manage this store. If I had merchandise in this store I'd immediately remove it honestly!!! Saving a life cost you NOTHING!!! BEING A GOOD HUMAN COST YOU NOTHING!!! Hotel yes. I recommend staying here, gift shop ABSOLUTELY NOT... I RECOMMEND ...DO NOT SHOP, STOP, OR BOP into this store!!! The hotels restaurant was delicious and the staff were all so nice and extremely helpful. The menu special was great! 5 star hotel and restaurant...0 stars to cluttered gift store!!!

Yelp
Honestly, a really nice hotel. The lobby is super chill. Yes, they have a Starbucks. Yes, they have a bar and yes they play sports on the screens. They have this cute little rooftop with a pool. The pool closes early. The view is beautiful. They have cute little chairs. We can sit down in the middle of the night and stare at the stars! The rooms are clean. I stayed here three times. They are fully renovated. I wish the toilet wasn't so low though which says a lot cause I'm only 411. The front desk staff is very helpful. The only issue we had was getting into our room. Our keys wouldn't work because the port was dead or something, but they fixed it immediately without us having to go downstairs which off the rip let me know. They have great customer service.

Yelp
This place is a must see if you love being stuck in an elevator with several people. Called the office from the elevator. We were told that help is on the way the director of maintenance is working hard on it. After over half an hour. Of being stuck with no airflow and 9 people breathing it's hot and starting to feel suffocating people are becoming panicked. Called the office from the elevator again was they called the elevator company and they are on their way. Definitely not a very assuring tone in his voice. So we called 911 and 4 minutes later relief the fire department showed up they were able to get the door cracked for some fresh air to enter the elevator cab. Finally after 50 minutes of people panicking and breathing heavily. We were greeted once the elevator was on a floor to let us out we went back to the lobby to be greeted by the manager and was told that. It was overwatered is the issue. Are you kidding me it's rated for 2500 pounds. And there was not 10- 250 pound people in there. The staff did not manage the situation properly. And should have called 911 to get air to the people standing stuck in the death trap elevator. Signs in front of elevator were installed after they had us stuck in elevator.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay here, I've stayed at the Glendale location but definitely prefer the downtown Phoenix hotel. It's luxe has lovely decor and the restaurant is very nice. I especially like the hotel room bathroom vanity and mirror. It's so plans at to have a long full size vanity with lots of counter space. The lit mirror provides good light to apply makeup. My only wish is that there was a higher ceiling in the bathroom and better ventilation. The humidity and heat really build up and don't dissipate well after using the shower. The room is adequate but why oh why can't hotels have outlets on more walls so I can properly hang a a dress and steam it. The bed was comfortable and I love that the nightstands are generous and oversized. I do wish hotels would place the Telly directly facing the bed, yes angling the screen helps but why can't they just place it in front of the bed for optimum viewing. The hotel decor is stunning, I loved the huge crystals!! The harvest bowl and the breakfast omelette with fruit were delicious. I stayed here for the NYE party and it was nice with dancing drinks and fun people watching but the ballroom was stifling hot and I am usually cold at venues. I don't know if it was true that they sold 600 tickets as rumored but I paid for VIP and all night long people were constantly trying to sit at our table. Not sure if there wasn't adequate seating for number of tickets sold but it was super annoying constantly having people try to take our seats in the VIP area. People were certainly dancing but the DJ was just so so, he seemed like he was off in his own world playing a set playlist and not playing music that was based on the core age group. I prefer DJ's that interact and gauge the feel of the room and what the brings people out onto the dance floor and keeps them there. I will certainly stay at this hotel again but for the reasons mentioned I probably won't do the NYE party again

Yelp
I was here for a two night stay while on business. Staff are very friendly. Check in was a breeze. Hotel was very clean. In fact, it was one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed in. The lobby is beautiful and was decorated for Christmas. The room was spacious had a very large shower. The hotel is located right downtown so bars, restaurants, etc. are walkable. I would recommend if looking for a place to stay in downtown Phoenix

Yelp
Stayed here for a music event in town. Love the Halloween decor and the vibe! Checked in later towards 6pm. When we went to the suite room that they assigned to us, we heard music coming from. Not overthinking it, we scanned the key and entered. Upon doing so there was someone in the shower! we quickly left and went back to check-in. The staff apologized and said the room was displayed as "available" on the system- which I still don't understand how it did not register that it was assigned to someone else already! Yikes!!! Got another room assigned. While the room was nice, the building shows its age. The shower leaked and the toilet took a long time to stop running after flushing. The west side doors also won't open, even with a key card late at night. Would recommend a newer build hotel that could even save you some money.

Yelp
Booked a room 3 weeks in advance, king/high floor, $500 per night. Arrived, to park it's an additional $45, beautiful lobby, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable employees. Now the downside. The room was worn out, and dirty. Food from previous guests on the floor, sparked the thought of this room even being cleaned. TV has the minimum subscription on Pluto, maybe 30 channels of absolutely nothing. The bed is horrible, with 4 flat feather pillows. Then the fun begins, all night long there is a light rail next to the hotel that literary honks its horn and rings its bell non-stop. Unknowingly, the guests before had set the alarm to go off at 5:00 AM, that was fun. Then, construction on a high-rise across from the room began at 6:00 AM, and in the finale, some idiot opened a fire door in the hallway at 6:45 AM and that alarm went off for 20 min. At this price point, none of these points should have happened. Especially the cleanliness issue. There are far better options in downtown Phoenix, it's best to look at them.
google avatar

Jocelyn H.

Yelp
The executive king suite was very nice, clean and spacious. There is a sectional, chair and ottoman and tv in the seating area and also another tv in the sleeping area. Decorations were tasteful vases and coffee table books. The sink in the bathroom looks like it should've been two sinks but since it's only one, there's plenty of counter space. Check in was a little slow but the lobby area was nice to look at while waiting, as it's very elegantly decorated. There's an ATM right next to the gift shop and the microwave oven is in the ice area on the 19th floor - the floor with the lounge. The room door does not close shut so you have to make sure it's pulled up when you leave - I noticed that another room door was ajar with the same issue so that's something they need to look into. If you're not paying attention or in a hurry, you can inadvertently leave your room unsecured.

Yelp
Not what I was expecting of a Renaissance, and I'm glad I got a summer deal for the stay. I stayed here because I went to a concert downtown, and I didn't want to drive home after the concert. I had a basic king room which was nice. The bed was comfortable in general, BUT I couldn't get the room to cool below 69°. I set it to 67 after trying to get it to go to 68, but it never got cooler. If the hotel has a minimum temp allowed of 69, that is too warm for a Phoenix minimum especially on days over 110 when the low is in the 90s. Every other hotel I've stayed in has allowed me to put it to 68, and yes, it makes a big difference with the amount of blankets on the bed. The walls are thin. I heard doors opening/closing in the hallway even with my fan on. I heard someone's alarm from an iphone going off at 6:30am. Plus side, the lounge access for elite Bonvoy members. The dinner was ok. The breakfast was much better. I didn't check out other amenities since I was only there for one night. I wouldn't pay full price for this hotel, but I would do another summer deal.

Yelp
Team meting and activities related with the same got me to Marriott Renaissance in Phoenix, Arizona, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. The check-in process was seamless and efficient, and the staff greeted me with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. They were exceptionally accommodating, providing information about the hotel's amenities and local attractions, making me feel truly welcome. The room I stayed in was a haven of relaxation. It was spacious, elegantly furnished, and exquisitely clean. The comfortable bed, complete with plush linens, ensured a restful night's sleep. The room's windows allowed me to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Marriott Renaissance Phoenix boasts a wide range of amenities. The outdoor pool and patio area provide a serene oasis for unwinding under the Arizona sun. The fitness center was well-equipped and offered a great way to stay active during my stay (used it every single day of my stay). The on-site restaurant served delicious meals, with a blend of local and international flavors and i did end up ordering a couple of times , a post workout meal and the food was delicious. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring Phoenix and the surrounding attractions. It's conveniently situated near downtown, making it easy to access cultural sites, restaurants, and shops. I was told that its proximity to hiking trails and outdoor adventures make it an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts. The hotel staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure my stay was exceptional. Whether it was accommodating special requests or providing local tips, their dedication to guest satisfaction was evident throughout my visit. They had delivered my food once and i didn't get to pick it up and upon bringing this to their notice they had a fresh order prepared for me and it came to my room in a short turnaround time. Phenomenal!!! Considering the level of luxury and comfort provided by Marriott Renaissance Phoenix, the rates are more than reasonable. The value for money is excellent, especially for travelers seeking a high-end experience in the Phoenix area. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Nice location downtown, valet parking only. Our room was on the 17th floor & had a nice view of the city. The bathroom was fine, water was hot, but the room itself was a little blah. Just dated. AC worked well & interactions with staff were all friendly/helpful. There's a Starbucks located inside & a restaurant. I did not try either during my stay.

Yelp
1. Elevators way too crowded and no stairs which is insane! 2 No self parking and valet is 42.00/ day 3.) Rust coming out of holes in the bathroom rack. 4.) Workout room has Peloton stuff. Cant use without a password which you cant get without internet which does not come in in workout room, So you need to buy it. Then it takes 15 m to do that. Crazy to have peloton in public area

Yelp
We stayed for a dance convention Thursday- Sunday. We had to be up at 4:30am Friday for the convention and our little dancers 7 & 8 were exhausted and ready for bed by the time we got to our room at 8:30pm. It was a long day and the hotel had us right by the pool area where they were hosting a holiday party with blasting music and screaming people until 10pm. The kids were hysterically crying because they just wanted to go to sleep and couldn't because the room was literally bumping and shaking from the music. The front desk didn't care and literally just said speak to a manger in the morning. Then the elevators kept breaking all weekend causing us to be late to classes and impossible to access our room. And homeless people randomly would come into the hotel which is uncomfortable with so many little children around. It wasn't a good experience at all.

Yelp
I'm giving this place only one star simply because telling the people at the front desk about a problem goes nowhere so hopefully management will see this and the one star review will get their attention (and no management I won't contact you directly - I already did that with your staff and that went nowhere). I stayed here during the Phoenix Fan Fusion convention only because my usual hotel, the Hyatt Regency for some reason wasn't giving the convention discount for the Sunday night of the convention. While The Renaissance was and overall OK stay I did have a few issues. One is like all hotels their inhouse restaurant is way overpriced. While the quality of the food and service were good it wasn't worth the high prices. Since there are no convenient affordable restaurants in downtown Phoenix the Renaissance knows you're a captive audience. The only back up to the restaurant was Starbucks and every Starbucks on the planet sucks. The cost of WiFi is ridiculously high. Somebody needs to teach the valet guy how to answer his phone. When I was checking out I called ahead and the valet phone rang, and rang, and rang and rang until I simply gave up. This caused a delay in getting my car. Lastly, and this is what really lost them 4 stars, on check out I got the usual "how was your stay?" question. I told them there had been a problem with my room refrigerator. It was set too cold and there's no way for the customer to change the setting. It ruined a bunch of food I had in there due to the very low temperature. When I reported this I got the "Ooo, that's a shame." response and nothing else. No "I'll report it to maintenance so the next customer doesn't lose $40 of food." No "We'll put this information in your account and next time you stay with us we'll give you free Wifi (or something)." Nothing. Just a blank stare. So even though this was a small thing it deserves attention. I got more of a response from my local supermarket when I told the guy at check out that they didn't carry frozen chicken thighs that the highly paid desk clerk gave me here. Will I return? Maybe if the Hyatt does next year what they did this year, but this hotel isn't on the top of my list.

Yelp
Great location near the convention center but could be better. This might sound harsh but here are the pros and cons after our recent 4 night stay in June 2024. Pros: - Lobby is large and beautiful. Plenty of chairs, tables and sofas to lounge around. Lobby was very clean so we were excited that our room would reflect the same. - Valet staff were friendly, quick and helpful. Only downside was that there weren't any luggage carts available to unload which made it difficult for me to do with just myself and two kiddos. Did have to make two trips which the valet said would not be a problem. They could retrieve my vehicle as many times as I needed to unload. - The hotel is pet friendly which we very much appreciated however they didn't provide any information on best/safe places I could take my puppy to relieve himself. We ended up taking him out front and across the street which wasn't an issue during the day but became concerning at night when transients frequently stay in this shaded area overnight. The hotel has a large open deck area on level 5 which could easily be used to designate a small pet area. Unfortunately the hotel doesn't allow pets in this outdoor space :(. - Front desk staff were great and super friendly. Upon checking in we were upgraded to the same size suite we reserved but with club access to the Elevate Lounge on the 19th floor. This was super helpful for us as we could enjoy breakfast, snacks, beverages and dinner. They also had a water filling station so we could refill our water bottles as often as needed. Our suite was a Junior King Suite on the 10th floor which was large enough to accommodate our family of four and our pup. The only thing I found odd is that the description of the room said there would be a king bed and a sofa with a pullout bed. But when we entered, there was a sofa pushed up against a wall and two rollaway beds (to make up for a sofa that didn't pullout). This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it just looked out of place and like the room wasn't prepped. - One last thing to mention is we were in Phoenix for a 4 day volleyball festival and temps were in the 110+ digits. But our room AC worked wonderfully. We kept it at a chilly 60 degrees and enjoyed the room with sweaters on. Cons: The few things to mention include: - Valet parking only at a rate of $42 per day. This quickly adds up when staying for multiple days but then again we picked this location because of its walking distance to the convention center. The valet parking was worth the cost to not have to worry about battling parking downtown during the workweek and busy weekend. - Front desk was not reachable using the phone in the room. Ending up downloading the Marriott bonvoy app to communicate any needs we had during our stay. - Pool was less than appealing. For the size of the hotel, the pool was smaller than most apartment pools. I do appreciate that it was shaded most of the day but good luck finding a chair. The odd thing is the pool could be so much bigger if they utilized the rest of the open deck area. There is so much unused space that it just feels like hot pavement. Overall, would still choose to stay here again if we needed to be in that area of downtown. Lots of restaurants and walking distance to many venues.

Yelp
Super cute hotel, great location, especially if going to Chase field. Check in was easy and friendly, valet parking was great and we knew the cost and it was fair with in and out privileges however the room we booked had included valet parking. If it hadn't though, the price was super fair and the attendants great. One complaint is that due to booking through a 3rd party they don't give you information like that we had paid for free Internet and free parking plus a food credit. Luckily I looked at my reservation through Expedia and saw I had that (I have a brain injury and significant memory issues) and I am glad I did. I thought we had paid a lot to come here and it makes a little more sense now. So now you know if not booking directly through them. Valet parking attendants were fantastic. Breakfast service in the restaurant was great and my Benedict was great too. We ordered a burger through room service and it was delicious and the server who dropped it off was great. Super quick room service too. Overall great hotel and location. Loved the decor throughput the hotel. Clean and comfortable room. Everyone working here was nice. We did not use the gym or pool, but I did see they had a peloton which is cool. We have one at home and if here longer definitely would have used it.

Yelp
Stayed here for a conference for two nights and absolutely LOVED it! The hotel itself was absolutely stunning. The lobby was gorgeous and the vibes were immaculate. Then you get to the room and literally it's just as beautiful. The rooms were also so so clean and tidy. The beds were insanely comfortable too. I slept so well. The amenities were also fantastic. There's a Starbucks in the hotel (a real one, amazing!) and the gym was also fantastic! They was a peloton, treadmills, rowers, free weights, and exercise balls. And the conference rooms we had the conference in were great as well. The location was also perfect - walkable to really great things/restaurants. Overall an incredible experience and would come back here any time I stay in phoenix!

Yelp
One of my favorite Marriott. I enjoyed my stay here. Located in the center of downtown Phoenix, Renaissance is a huge building with great amenities with convenient proximity to all downtown activities (NFL, MLB, museums, restaurants). The Renaissance club wasn't open on Saturday, and we were able to get very good breakfast at the on-site restaurant. Decor - all the interesting decors attracted my attention. There are many cool pieces of furniture (tables, light fixtures, paintings, sculptures, wall hangings, etc), and I walked around the lobby and hallways with amazement. Restaurant - Servers and attendanta were very cordial. Cam, a restaurant server, was so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was tasty, especially the hash brown. Fruit bowl was fresh and tasty as well. Room - The suite 1738 is huge, and is big enough for a family of 5 to sleep. There are two beds ( one king, one queen), and a large sofa. The bathroom was large as well, so much so there was a large empty corner that could be converted into a big closet. (This is how Hawaiians would think about unused space.) The room decors were upscale and tastefully arranged. The only complaint I have was with a sink drain which was not working. When I lifted it to drain the water, I saw how nasty it was. I'm sure this is a simple oversight. Otherwise all is good here.

Yelp
I checked in one hour later than my scheduled arrival time, and my room still wasn't ready (700pm). Once I did get my room I noticed that the TV was cracked and unwatchable. I called the front desk, and their excuse was that several of the rooms had broken TV's. The front desk also indicated that there were no other rooms available. As a Platinum member I would expect more from a high end hotel. I have had better service from Fairfield's. I will not recommend this property to anyone traveling to Phoenix

Yelp
This is a classic bait and switch situation! For the amount of money spent to stay at this hotel I would expect the pictures to accurately represent what the rooms really are. I paid for a club studio suite multiple beds based on the pictures provided and all I can say is NOPE! The first room they gave me had a running toilet that would not stop and was nothing like what the pictures represented. So I went back down to the lobby and requested the nearly $800 a night room I paid for. The lady issued me a new room and all I can say is NOPE! Swing and a miss again friends. I went down a second time and spoke with a gentleman that was rather rude not wanting to even take a second to listen to me and his answer was "the room I was given was their nicest room in this catagory" and proceeded to offer me a downgrade! Seriously! I'd been traveling all day for business and all I wanted was what I paid nearly $2000 dollars for two nights and their answer was a downgrade! Ok I see you Downtown Renaissance Phoenix. Needless to say I will never stay at this chain again which is a shame because I've enjoyed their properties in the past.

Yelp
Someone was obviously hanging out in my room before I checked-in. Both water bottles were partly empty. The bed looked as though people had been laying on top. A towel in the bathroom looked used. The top of someone's cooler sat atop the dresser. The bedside drawer was open. I called the front desk and they insisted no one had been in there and that the cleaning person probably forgot something!

Yelp
This is a fabulous spot to stay if you are visiting Phoenix. The staff here is professional and polite. The hotel and furnishings give off a great modern vibe while keeping a cool Southwestern flare. Very centrally located and close to the Phoenix Convention Center.

Yelp
We got upgraded to a studio suite on the fifth floor. This is important because that's the floor that the pool is on. Our room had a sliding door out to a large deck by the pool. It had many groupings of chairs for lounging. That was a bonus as well as having a larger room. The main portions of the hotel are appointed very nicely. Our room was in good shape as well. One minor concern was how dark the room was. There were no ceiling lights and the room was murky unless you opened the curtains to the slider. But all things considered, this was a nice day at a nice hotel. We were able to access the Elevate lounge on the concierge level. For a while, these lounges weren't open but now this one is open for breakfast only. The rest of the day, it's open but no food is available, although there is a refrigerator with soft drinks, water and juice. Two things worth noting are that the downtown Phoenix area is in complete disarray. Streets are either closed or narrowed to one lane which made getting there a big issue. Also, there is no parking for the hotel other than valet parking. And that's $35 a day.

Yelp
We shared our bathroom with a HUGE cockroach so that was fun. My kid found it first and was terrified the rest of our trip to enter the room. Room service was awful. Not sure how we got duplicates of some items and missing other items all together when we placed the order via a QR code...but they managed to mess that up. I got a double order of burnt eggs for a ridiculously high price. Bought a purse at the gift shop...price tag said $48. Got to the room and looked at the receipt...they charged $68. Had to go back down for a refund...a handwritten sign was on the door notifying patrons they were closed. Eventually got them to refund the difference. Had to unplug the refrigerator due to an annoying high pitch buzzing sound. Just not a good experience at all.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Stayed here after a flight from Hawaii. Stayed in the suite with two full sized beds . Comfortable beds and nice spacious area with sectional couch that fit everyone nicely. Husband and I went to grab drinks at bar in the lobby . They were delicious. We Definitely will return to stay here maybe after catching baseball game this year.

Yelp
I'm really surprised to see this place only has on overall rating of 4. This place is FANTASTIC! We live in the valley and we stay here often when we attend concerts or want a staycation for a birthday or anniversary. The location is great and walkable to all the main areas downtown. We feel very safe outside around the hotel. The lobby and hotel is very clean and feels upscale. The manager at the dust cutter restaurant is really friendly.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Renaissance on an overnight for the Elton John show. Had a great high floor Executive Suite which was modern and spacious with a great view. Enjoyed Saturday post-show late night bites & drinks then lunch Sunday at Dust Cutter. The food was great as was the service. I really love when Bonvoy property restaurants up their food game. Makes for a great full service hotel, for sure. Valet was good, checkin / checkout was pleasant and smooth, and the location of the property is great with easy walking access to the downtown sports venues and lots of restaurants and bars. I would stay here again for sure.

Yelp
I came for a conference and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and conference facilities. The hotel is modern, elegant and for the most part, well maintained. The only glitches that I encountered were the broken Roman blind in my room. The cord gave out so there wasn't any way to lift the blind. Also, there was a dark water stain on the carpet. The stain wasn't massive or moldy, but it was there. Besides that, it was an awesome stay.

Yelp
Great hotel! Beds, sheets, and pillows are super comfortable. Everything in the room is really clean. Check and checkout was smooth. Rooms have a fridge but no microwave. There is a communal microwave located near the ice machine on every floor. They have a GREAT gym with tons of equipment that you won't find at other hotel gyms. (I was unable to take pictures of gym because there was people working out.) This hotel is definitely on my top 3 in Phoenix.

Yelp
I was unable to be with my loved one for his birthday and wanted to do something special to make sure he knew I was thinking about him and was there is spirit. Without going into too much detail, (literally this task took SEVEN phone calls! I'm surprised they didn't get a restraining order!) I wanted to give a shout out to Naima and Garret!! They were AWESOME!! I assume they work the front desk because they answered the phone when I called the main number. They went above and beyond to make sure my surprise was carried out. If I had been there in person I would have given both of them a huge tip! They deserve to be recognized for their attention to detail and helping me carry out a little something to make his birthday special.

Yelp
With an early morning flight on Saturday, we decided to stay closer to the airport on a Friday to make it easier on our selves. The hubby and I decided to treat ourselves to a night at He Renaissance and it was totally worth it! I am rounding up a bit here, but it was so lovely to experience something even close to full service in a hotel that I wanted to recognize it. I love travel but since the Pandemic, services and standards have eroded considerably (in general). at the Renaissance Downtown, it almost felt like 2019 again. Nearly all services were in full swing here (only the Concierge lounge remains closed). Any and all requests and questions were handled quickly. We even got to experience room service - albeit in take out containers, but still! Fabulous drinks and happy hour snacks at the Dust Cutter in the lobby! I will review it separately but if you go, I recommend the Manhattan :-) Nicely integrated technology for everything in the room and in the hotel. The rooms and pubic areas were all extremely clean and beautifully decorated. Everyone in service was pleasant and friendly. Though we are local I would return again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Been here since Thursday 02-16 and checking out tomorrow Tuesday 02-21. Great location near the convention center and well appointed rooms. Lobby bar has been lively each night and they do a great job handling the business. All interactions with staff/hosts has been great and I have made a couple of special requests which were filled quickly. Rooms are spacious - mine with a King bed, as requested. Enjoyed the lounge on the 19th floor several days for breakfast as well as for a few drinks and some desserts.

Yelp
First time in Phoenix for the Phoenix Fan Fusion at convention center. First the positives, hotel is super close to convention center, the lobby is nice and clean, the day staff were all nice, there's a Starbucks in the lobby, room was fine, bed was comfortable. Reason for my 3 star rating is based on things in my particular room, so your room may be much better. First I find a long strand of hair on the toilet seat, I don't know how they could miss that, but I flush it down the toilet and ignore it.. until I saw another strand of the same type of hair in the sink. So I took a pic of that. Also the mirror, you can see where it wasn't totally cleaned properly. My front door was hard to shut, almost slamming it to shut it all the way, then the security latch on door wouldn't lock, latch was stuck. I stayed 2 days, leaving at 4a to drive back home, the front desk guy wasn't very nice, and the valet seemed annoyed as well. It's early, so I get not being in the best of moods, trying to be understanding concerning that. Otherwise, my stay was fine, nothing extraordinary, it served its purpose, but I'll probably look at other hotels if I'm ever in the area again.

Yelp
This was the first year that Saboten Con featured events in the Renaissance, so I frequented the place to attend concerts, dance performances, sip a drink at the bar, and to relax in their huge lobby. Their event rooms (ballrooms?) are very spacious and well ventilated, I really enjoyed all the events I attended. Their bathroom on the third floor is one of the best ones I've ever been in, it was clean every time I used it and had great lighting and appliances. I went to the bar around 10:30-11pm. I'm not sure if they even have a happy hour because I'm not an adult that knows how hotel bars work, but the rum and coke I ordered was $10 and pretty strong so I'd say it was worth it. Lobby decor was giving Mojo Dojo Casa House, but it was comfortable. I'm sure that booking a room here is also nice because of everything I witnessed. Great location because it's right on Adams St and you can walk to many places north or south of it.

Yelp
This was a wonderful location downtown in walking distance to all the night life. My date and I came into town due to her company offering her a position in Phoenix. We flew in to the area Friday and checked in later in the afternoon. The check in staff was vey accommodating and provided us with $30 in vouchers to use anywhere in the hotel due to there being no room upgrades available. We ended up using them at the in house Starbucks for breakfast during our weekend stay. The room was nice, however, the air vent was worn out and clanked while the HVAC was running. We had to stuff a small towel into the vent to keep it quiet. For a hotel as prestigious as this, I would expect features as this to be inspected routinely and repaired when necessary. The other disappointment was there was no microwave in the room. If you wished to utilize a microwave you had to go to the ice machine area on your floor, where a community microwave was located. The bed was very comfortable, we slept very well and the black out curtains closed in an overlapping manner keeping all outside light out. This was wonderful being we slept in between 8-9am. The bathroom door for the toilet and shower was a modern barn door style glass slider, which I did not care for. It did not offer the privacy a solid closing door would. I know the hotel was going for a modern look, however in my opinion this style door for the toilet area is a poor choice due to privacy. All in all I would stay at this location again but I would entertain other locations depending on price and amenities. Parking was $20/day with in and out privileges, which was on the lower end than what other hotels in the area were charging. The parking fee was the deciding factor when we were comparing this location to another downtown.
