Review for Render Coffee ☕🌿 Address: 563 Columbus Ave APT 2, Boston, MA 02118 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - “Great” Nestled in the bustling heart of Boston, Render Coffee is a hidden gem that marries the art of coffee with the warmth of community. Service 🙋‍♂️ A delightful encounter with Day, our barista, set the tone for our visit. Their genuine laughter at my attempts at humor was the cream to my coffee - an unexpected and welcome layer of joy. It’s this kind of personal touch that transforms a standard coffee run into a memorable morning ritual. The service here isn’t just about pouring a drink; it’s about crafting an experience, one smile, one cup at a time. Decor 🎨🪴 Stepping into Render Coffee feels like entering a secret garden. The elongated interior unfolds like a storybook, each chapter more enchanting than the last, culminating in a plant-adorned alcove that opens to a patio cradled by the arms of weathered brick. It’s an urban oasis that invites you to sit, sip, and savor. Here, the world outside falls away, leaving room for whispered secrets and shared glances - a true sanctuary for the soul. Food 🍽️☕ Though we didn’t partake in their food offerings, the coffee itself was an adventure. My black coffee was a dark, brooding concoction, steeped in the rich bitterness that true aficionados cherish. On the other hand, my girlfriend’s vanilla almond milk latte was a sweet ballet in a cup - perhaps a touch too sugary for her taste, but a dance well-performed nonetheless. Each sip was a silent ode to the craft of coffee making. In Retrospect 🤔 Render Coffee stands as a testament to the simple pleasures that life affords - a pleasant chat, a robust cup of coffee, and a tranquil spot to watch the world by. It’s a place where the coffee is strong, the ambiance stronger, and the moments spent there are the strongest memories of all. Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - “Great” “A Serendipitous Brew of Charm, Laughter, and Coffee Alchemy.” Render Coffee isn’t just a place to grab a caffeine fix; it’s where moments are savored, and the bustle of city life is sweetened with every sip. It’s where the coffee is as rich as the conversations, and the setting as inviting as the aroma that greets you at the door. ☕🌸🌟

Google
Great little coffee shop! My pourover was great, and the vibe was real. I had heard that the atrium seats were highly coveted, and this proved to be true, as they were all taken. So get there early and enjoy it. I want to come back during warmer months and relax on the patio.

Google
My husband and I enjoyed breakfast here. They had delicious dairy free vanilla syrup and oat milk for a latte. Also, I really enjoyed the vegan breakfast sandwich with impossible sausage. I recommend it to anyone with a dairy allergy.

Google
A nice coffeeshop with a decent range of pastry and bagels. My medium roast was delicious, but I’d rather drink a light roast. Apparently they do make pour over but they did not do it for me today. I’d go again if I’d be in the area.

Google
Good classic Boston coffee shop. They have great breakfast sandwiches & outdoor seating when it’s warm enough. As most coffee shops that NEU & south end residents both know about, it can be difficult to get a place to sit down, but that is not fault of Render itself — Boston spaces are Boston spaces.

Google
Lovely local coffee shop with unique flavors and one of the top breakfast sandwiches in the city. My go-to is an iced salted maple latte and a breakfast sandwich on a marble rye bagel.

Google
Got the turkey club with ciabatta bread and an Iced Americano. Iced Americano was nothing special (which is fine). Sandwich was not very good, the ciabatta bread was really hard and dry, turkey was really salty as well. I can see why they were recommending the sourdough over the ciabatta. We came here a couple years ago and remembered it to be better than it was now.

Google
Came here a few years back and remembered it to be really good. I ordered the same thing and unfortunately wasnt as good as i remembered. The hazelnut latte tasted gritty and the turkey club was really salty and hard. The sandwich literally cut my mouth lol, i think the ciabatta was overtoasted since the tops were black.

Yelp
dont listen to the poor reviews! definitely just high maintenance customers with nuthin better to do than complain :0 lattes are incredibly done. staff is real AF get chatting with them and dont be a d*** and you'll quickly become a beloved regular. third wave coffee is expensive so youre gonna have to get over the high prices. anyway love this place and so do the regulars. i take it as a coolness litmus test whether or not someone likes this place

Hursuong V.

Yelp
Cozy and not distracting work spot with a great little nook area under a sky light and outdoor seating in the back! Drinks were good but ... expensive. $6.15 for some of the iced lattes. Food also good but not anything out of this world. I would come back again for the lox bagel. I also ordered the "chicken salad" and it turned out to be the sandwich version.

Yelp
After seeing all of the positive reviews for Render Coffee and their Malted Cold Brew, a friend and I decided to stop by and finally give it a try. We anticipated that we were going to love it, so we both ordered large Malted Cold Brews, only to find out that we are not Malted Cold Brew people. It was a little too "sour" for our liking, as it had a flavor that somewhat resembled apple cider vinegar to us. We were both sad to see those drinks get tossed, but we both decided that they were worth the try. If you've never tried Malted Cold Brew before, I'd definitely recommend getting the smallest size possible to test it out at first. The real star of the show for us at Render Coffee was the back deck, which is shaded and enclosed for Render customers. There's an additional seating area inside as well, but the ambiance of the back deck was super nice. It'd be a great spot to get some work done, to read a book, or to catch up with friends over coffee.

Yelp
Easily the most delicious mocha in the area. Super trendy and ambiance space inside. Great for work, chats, and chilling. I'm so happy I visited. Highly recommend both the menu items I tried. The hummus wrap was crisp and fresh. Loved the service, and the place was clean. Great experience Render!

Woo K.

Yelp
Honestly. The only thing that bothered me about this place was that parking is impossible. The bagel was good. The salmon was good. The coffee was good. Honestly I would love to come back.

Rovingaile P.

Yelp
Ambiance is great! Love the design of this building. As for drinks, I got an iced salted maple latte. I could definitely taste the maple without being too sweet. Couldn't really taste the salty contrast though. Overall would come back here again for drinks and to study!

Randy B.

Yelp
Loved this place. Amazing coffee and staff! Visited Boston for the weekend and had a wonderful cafe experience here at Render! Got the Peppermint Mocha and the Oat Mocha, and both tasted amazing. Rich coffee flavor with just the right amount of sweetness in both. Wonderful latter art too. Vibes of the cafe was great. Small, quaint, and quiet. Accidentally got a wrong drink due to miscommunication, but the staff was happy to offer to fix and make another drink for me with no complaint. There were super willing to help! Shout out to the baristas.

Annabelle G.

Yelp
LOVE this place, beautiful outdoor and indoor seating areas plus the bagel and chai latte were delicious. Chai latte was just a bit on the sweeter side but I enjoy it that way. Would definitely go back!

Josh C.

Yelp
Lovely local coffee shop with unique flavors and one of the top breakfast sandwiches in the city. My go-to is an iced salted maple latte and a breakfast sandwich on a marble rye bagel. The one pitfall is that it can get crowded in terms of seating, but usually moves fast!

Karina P.

Yelp
OMG, cutest coffee shop!! Came here to work for a few hours while in Boston for the week. My cousin lives nearby and suggested I come grab a breakfast sando from here. I went with the rosemary potato egg sandwich with bacon on an everything bagel. Found a spot (luckily, it was so busy!) and planted my stuff. I loved the little indoor outdoor terrace because it was super lush. My food came out pretty quick and I devoured my sandwich. Definitely doused it in hot sauce and felt it could have had more salt, which is saying something since I am so salt sensitive but better to be less than more! Loved every bit of it and would definitely come back to try a coffee next time. Price was a bit steep for an egg sando -- 1 star off for that.

Jenni F.

Yelp
The food at this place was really, really good. However, we got there in the morning so selection was very limited. The woman waiting on us was very sweet, yet because they were out of so many things, ordering was really stressful! The cold brew coffee was good, but not great. The little patio out behind the restaurant is cute and pleasant...a nice little oasis in the city.

Lanita P.

Yelp
Pretty good coffee here. I'm visiting from California and came here to get a cold brew and I enjoyed the flavor. I was coming in to grab a coffee and go but I decided to take a seat inside. I thought the seating was charming on the patio and inside. Nice atmosphere. My only complaint is that I was told a cold brew is the same as regular brewed coffee, I think everyone knows that is not true.

Linda Y.

Yelp
I live nearby and have been to this place many times in hopes to have a better experience. None of the staff are friendly, weekdays or weekends it doesn't matter none of them are friendly and then expect a 25% tip. They also offer the worlds smallest coffees, I have gotten a hot coffee and lattes from there and they only have one size... EXTREMELY SMALL. For over 6 dollars you can get two sips of coffee!! Don't get the salted maple latte either, it tastes like liquid salt. They also got rid of all of their gluten free options on the menu so seriously don't bother. Instead of going here, I would save your money and go to this awesome place next door called Dunkin' Donuts.

Lena G.

Yelp
We are visiting from California and came across Render and it did not disappoint! I love that they have a build your own breakfast sandwich option. My husband and I both ordered custom sandwiches and they were very delicious! To drink, my husband picked the iced malted cold brew which he really enjoyed. He said it had a nice malty flavor, but it wasn't overpowering. I ordered a chai latte with oat milk and it was nice and light! This place has quite a few dairy options/alternatives and they also have some vegan/vegetarian/gluten free food choices! Definitely check this place out!

Julia M.

Yelp
Heard great things about this place & it's always recommended on Instagram but I could not recommend. The barista taking my order was rude to start with, but I overlooked that at first. The coffee itself was awful. The coffee flavor was weak and I got one of the fall flavors and it was not good at all. Definitely would not recommend. Inside is also a bit dirty and not really cute like advertised. So many amazing coffee spots in Boston I'd recommend over Render

Alisa G.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday for brunch and to get some work done. Super cute spot to chill, hangout, and work. Table space is limited but you just have to get lucky. They have a super cute sunroom area in the back and my boyfriend and I were able to snag a table there eventually. For food I ordered the turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread. Pretty typical cafe food, nothing crazy. I also ordered an almond croissant and that was absolutely delicious! The iced matcha green tea latte was also nothing special, it tasted like the ones I make at home honestly. Overall this is a great place to come if you're looking to get some work done and want a change of scenery from your own place! Food is pretty average but the pastries, at least from what I had, were great!

S D.

Yelp
I went back to Render after many months & was deeply disappointed with the absolutely undrinkable cortado that I got. It simply tasted off - and wasn't even the right proportions for the drink that it claimed to be. I am not aide what the issues were - it could be that the beans were old, or they the person pulling the espresso did not know what they were doing, or that they did not know what a cortado was, or all of the above. But I threw my coffee into the trash after one sip. I would not write this sort of review normally but really at essentially $5 a coffee it needs to at least be drinkable.

Shane D.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, horrible attitude/customer service from employees (Monday 4/1 1-4 PM)

Andrea C.

Yelp
Hands down the best pumpkin latte I've had. Not overly sweet, and great latte art! Would have loved to try the vegan breakfast sandwich but already had lunch plans.

Sonam S.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast options, with a cute sunroom to sit in. Great staff! Crowded by the line moves very fast. 4 starts instead of the 5 as the coffee was average. Not bad but not great.

Ava C.

Yelp
Visited Render coffee on a Saturday morning and was shocked at the lack of a wait. I went with 2 of my friends and we only had to wait to order for about 4 minutes. I ordered the lox bagel and a matcha, my friends ordered a matcha and a bagel with cream cheese. I really enjoyed my lox bagel as did my friend with her bagel. However, the matcha was interesting. I did not get much of a matcha flavor and thought the latte was lacking in taste. We were able to find a place to sit and enjoy our food and drink. If the matcha had been better I would have loved to give this place five stars.

Nick K.

Yelp
Food: ***** Coffee: ***** Service: ** Love this place, BUT.... The weekend staff needs to learn how to TOAST THE BAGEL, especially when one asks for EXTRA TOASTED.

Holly R.

Yelp
The food is fine though overpriced in my opinion, but the biggest reason for my 1 star review is if you offer curbside pickup it's helpful to actually have someone picking up the phone when people let you know they're there. I couldn't leave my car and did curbside pickup and called for nearly 20 minutes trying to get someone to pick up to let them know I was here (which is what they had told me to do when I got here). If you cant handle curbside just don't offer it. When they finally brought it out (after never answering the phone except once without saying anything and hanging up before I could even speak), someone brought it out to me looking annoyed

Emma E.

Yelp
I go to this coffee shop quite a bit and it's one of my favorites. It's located not too far from the Mass Ave stop and it's locally owned. I like that they're open til 5pm (a Boston rarity) and the sunroom is really cute, especially in the fall. There is also some outdoor seating connected to the sunroom. I enjoy most of the drinks I get from here, which is usually just an iced vanilla latte. I haven't tried any of the food yet, but other customers seem to enjoy it a lot. Customer service is good most of the time and the music slaps. I do have a few gripes. With the sun setting at 4pm these days, it gets really dark in the sunroom for the last couple of hours that they're open. There is an overhead light but it's dim so I wish there were some other stronger source of light in there. There is also only one outlet in the sunroom that I know of. The bathroom is a bit off sometimes too. I went in once and there was no toilet paper and no soap whatsoever. Overall I still enjoy this place more than most other coffee shops in the area.

Bailey L.

Yelp
Cute little place. Food was great. i got the chicken salad sandwich and it was amazing!!! my friend got the breakfast sandwich (not pictured) but was also very good.

Jaitri J.

Yelp
Beautiful interior at the South End location of Render Coffee. Before sunset, the back room has enough lighting to enjoy working but it gets a little dark in there with the smaller light bulbs. There's only 2 medium and 3 small tables in the back lounge with a few more near the front so it feels packed. Back lounge doesn't have good access to outlets so not a great spot to settle down for too long but if a table near the front clears up, you can plug in your device quick. Feels laptop-friendly and has fast free wifi. Very overpriced in my opinion and the baked goods don't seem as fresh as other cafes in the south end but Hazelnut Latte is definitely a great nutty flavor. Overall a good spot to study/work at once in a while!

Grace Y.

Yelp
The first place I've been to with legit hazelnut lattes! The only other ones I've gotten are like those artificial Starbucks ones. You can really taste the difference with Render though. There's actual little bits of hazelnut in your latte, and the flavor overall complements the taste of coffee really well. The place is pretty popping overall - when my friend and I arrived, all the seats were filled! So if you're coming trying to get work done, be prepared that it may be busy. If it's a nice day outside, though, they have a nice courtyard out back with a good amount of tables. Their indoor seating options are really nice though, with the majority of seats in this glass, indoor veranda-looking thing that lets in a lot of natural sunlight. Overall a really cute venue! Would recommend giving it a shot :)

Matt V.

Yelp
Honestly. I don't understand how this place gets such high regards. It's definitely not for the coffee, which isn't bad but rather meh. Bitter is the overwhelming notes of the coffee, which isn't a good thing. Atmosphere is that of a college town coffee shop where people are sitting around at uncomfortable tables working on their laptops. Music is non intrusive but good. Staff are equivalent to the coffee notes (see above).

Sadie C.

Yelp
I am coming out of my Yelp hiatus solely to write this review. The cortado I just received was shockingly bad -- so acidic it actually burned my throat. Will I ever be able to get the taste out of my mouth? This is the question I am forced to spend my Sunday thinking about. That said, very kind employees.

Rob J.

Yelp
Stumbled in here for our morning coffee and a bit of breakfast. Coffee shops these days mostly seem like they're all the same. Overpriced, cups of strangely mixed coffee concoctions, combined with microwaved bagels or muffins. Render Coffee is that great exception and the reason why it's important to always try something new. The wife had a mix of veggies on an everything bagel. I had an egg and sausage biscuit that had this amazing spread that was sweet and hot. I'm looking forward to trying Render again soon.

John R.

Yelp
I already have a favorite local place for bagels and lox. I cheated on them with Render bc of a GrubHub coupon Yeah this place is fine. Not bad by any means. But for a couple dollars more you can get a much better bagel with a much bigger portion of much better lox at Kupel's. Would not go again, but if you have GrubHub it's definitely worth at least trying once with the coupon.

Michael B.

Yelp
I live in the south end and this is the closest coffee shop location. The food can be decent...sandwich, bagel, pastries are all very good. the problem is the staff is incredibly rude. They almost take pride in being a-holes. Bad attitude is an understatement. they act as though they are doing you a favor. Keep in mind this is not a one time experience but many times...I am hoping someone moves into the former Cafe Madelyn and sells better coffee and gelato just so I don't have to deal with Render's crappy staff.

Randy L.

Yelp
I have to go back to try it again, but the vanilla latte I got ended tasting a bit too sour! The bagels, however, were amazing! I had the everything bagel with regular cream cheese and it was very filling!

Erin W.

Yelp
Went for a quick breakfast on a Sunday morning - the line was long so it seemed promising! However, my breakfast sandwich (rosemary frittata with impossible sausage on sourdough) was cold in the middle - the egg was watery and made the bread soggy. The cold brew unfortunately wasn't good either - a bit too weak for my liking. Only redeeming item was the almond croissant.

Emily R.

Yelp
Wow wow wow was this place delicious! Both oat milk latte and custom made bagel were so good. The coffee milk was frothed very well and the bagel was big, filling, flavorful, fresh, and warm. Our cashier, Sophia, was super friendly and helpful. She was very patient with me changing my order last minute and taking some time to decide--much appreciated. Sophia was truly lovely! She also seemed very passionate about the place and being in the coffee realm. There are a lot of food choices. You can make you're own yummy breakfast sandwich or choose from their lunch menu with many healthy options. I was really pleased with what they offer. However, I did notice there were no bakery items, not sure if they sold out or if it's a sanitary measure. The place was a bit crowded and we were asked to wait outside for our orders. They did nicely pack out bagels and brought them out to us--a nice gesture. They brought our coffee out earlier which was cool because then we had them while we briefly waited. Parking is very difficult since almost all the streets around are resident permit only. There is no dining due to COVID-19, though I believe they normally do from what I could see in the back. For an oat milk latte, mocha latte, and two bagels we paid around $25.

Mina S.

Yelp
The staff is very rude. They ignore you unless you keep pestering them. Also why do they stop serving food so early? Every time I stop in for lunch they tell me they don't have anything besides drinks. Incredibly frustrating because their food and drinks are actually quite good.

Rochelle A.

Yelp
I went yesterday morning 11/7 around 8:30 am. I had placed my order online and selected curbside pick up. I called three times when I arrived and did not get an answer. I figured they must be busy and/or understaffed. So I parked and walked up the stairs. It was steady but not crowded and several employees were behind the counter. I picked this place as it has curbside option and I have mobility problems that cause me pain. Very disappointed that I had to get out of the car. Needless to say, it did aggravate my condition and I was in pain at work. If you have curbside orders that you accepted and filled. You have to answer the phone and let people know it will be a few minutes and. It just ignore the phone ringing.

Good E.

Yelp
Pretty cute neighborhood coffee shop but needs more seating. Bagel & lox and coffee were legit.

Luke M.

Yelp
Good coffee and the vegan breakfast sandwich was great! Staff was very friendly. Not a real big space so it may be tough to get a seat. Will be back the next time I'm in Boston.

Masha S.

Yelp
Love the location, company logo, and the inside of this place! Their small little bagels are also very solid. I did a deep-dive review on them if you want to watch! https://youtu.be/HWEVXA-E1z4

Bailee P.

Yelp
I feel terrible for the workers who had to take some of the orders I was hearing. I just got a latte. It was really good but was it worth $7? Mmmmm not too sure about that. Happy I got to try this cute little coffee shop though!

Kevin M.

Yelp
This is labeled as one of the best coffee shops in Boston. If this is one of the best, I would hate to see one of the worst because this place is horrible. We ordered a malted cold brew that was one of the nastiest drinks I've had in my life. Nothing like a malted cold brew I've had before. I ordered a "fresh" blueberry muffin that was so hard and dried out that it could have been a week old. I am no chef, but it's kinda hard to mess up coffee and muffins that bad. Will never go back.

Tess H.

Yelp
Came here because I saw the reviews about the hazelnut lattes and they were absolutely right. This place is so pretty, there is a very cool seating area that gets tons of natural light

Mindy L.

Yelp
We stopped here to get a cup of coffee and breakfast and everything was delicious. I got an almond latte and the coffee was solid. They have a good selection of pastries and breakfast/lunch items. There is seating inside and outside in the back. The back is cute and there are trees that provide shade. Great place to hang out and read a book.

Emily M.

Yelp
Decent food and drinks, but very overpriced. The vibe is also a bit snobby and off-putting.

Rithi C.

Yelp
A nice place to relax and work on your laptop. Free wi-fi, but I believe you have a limit of up to two hours. Makes sense--they have a decent amount of space, but they're still a small/medium-sized coffee shop and can't have everyone camping out here all at once. The bathroom was clean, though there's often a line. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant, a large black coffee, and an orange juice. I enjoyed their coffee more than the orange juice, though I tend to be picky with my OJ as a Florida native--besides, most people come to coffee shops for coffee, anyways. The croissant was nice and flaky, perfect for a hearty snack. If you need to plug in your device, there aren't too many outlets.

Melanie H.

Yelp
I recently moved into the area and was excited to try out the local coffee shops as I am an avid coffee drinker. The hazelnut latte and pain au chocolat I ordered were tasty, but unfortunately, like i've noticed a couple of other reviewers mention, the service was less than satisfactory and very off-putting. When I asked if they had outdoor seating (which based off pictures they do and has been open during covid) I was met with a rude response which included "That's why there's a massive barricade." Not only was it likely clear I was a new customer who wouldn't know you can't access the outdoor seating from inside the shop, but it was also very condescending. I also heard the same barista mock an online order who had mistakenly ordered a bagel they were out of. When calling the customer, the barista rudely remarked "the ones I just said" after the customer presumably asked for the available options. When the call ended the barista continued the mockery by saying to her coworker "She said 'Thank you for calling me,' like uhhh.... what was i supposed to do?" to which both girls laughed and were easily overheard by the line of people waiting for the orders. All in all, my order was satisfying (though I don't understand why they couldn't warm my pastry - a personal big pet peeve for me at cafes), but the service put a really large dent in the whole experience. I may be back for study space when their seating opens, but not because they've left a great impression on me. It's really easy to be kind and welcoming.

Grace C.

Yelp
Pretty good coffee. I got their regular latte and hazelnut latte. The hazelnut latte is definitely for someone who really likes hazelnut. It has bits of hazelnut in addition to the hazelnut syrup. It's not super sweet but very nutty.

Vicki L.

Yelp
Never tried their coffee but all of their bagels are very solid. I especially liked the whole wheat one and the garlic one.

Jen J.

Yelp
Before checking into our airbnb, we stopped by for Render's coffee and goat cheese quiche. Good start to our first Boston trip. Cozy interior. Friendly barista.
