Rendes-vous Creole Brings Haitian Cuisine to the West Bank - Eater New Orleans

"A family-owned and operated restaurant that opened recently on the West Bank is serving up beloved Haitian specialties like braised goat, conch, and pikliz (a condiment of pickled vegetables). Rendes-Vous Creole is from New Orleans’s Jolly family, and offers a welcome addition to a city that, despite its many Haitian influences and connections, has a limited number of establishments dedicated to the cuisine. Barthelemy and Yolande Jolly, the restaurant’s Haitian-born founders and co-owners, also help run Radio Gonbo Kreyol, a New Orleans internet radio station that serves Creole speakers. Barthelemy is also vice president of the Haitian Community center of Louisiana. With Rendes-Vous, the family has added to that list of citywide contributions, creating a warm, celebratory space for Haitian food and art. It joins only Fritai, located in St. Roch Market, and Gretna’s Belle Fourchette, among local options for the cuisine. The small menu focuses on traditional offerings of tasso (fried beef or goat), griot (marinated pork shoulder braised then fried), lambi (conch), and stews featuring fish, turkey, or vegetables. All are served alongside rice and pikliz, usually a mixture of pickled cabbage, carrots, shallots, peppers." - Clair Lorell

I had a great experience at Rendez-Vous Creole Haitian Restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was great. We had fritaille tassot, bouillon and chicken with white rice and sauce pois. We will definitely be back.

I love my people but that's some bs . Not only they up selling food . And I happen to order turkey I couldn't eat it . It definitely tasted old as and they apologized for making my food wrong I couldn't enjoy. Maybe that's how Haitians in Louisiana do it. I was highly disappointed couldn't eat the food. But very nice folks

side with the Billards table and bar. The area looked a little cleaner, but there were still flies over there as well. Not the first restaurant I’ve been to with flies, but I don’t want to see fly paper hanging from all over the dining room floor either. Fried plantain came out pretty quickly, good taste. My legume was burnt and the waitress acknowledged it but yet you’re still serving it to people. I will say the black rice was on point! My husband had the conch, decent. AFTER the food came, the waitress asked if we wanted something to drink. We had the fresh squeezed juice, that was good. My husband went to the bathroom no tissue or soap. My husband asked the waitress to remove the legume from the bill, she said OK, but never did it. We were waiting for her to finish talking to the owner about removing it but 15 minutes later our Uber was there and we just had to leave. Everything about the service was slow, even though we were the only paying customers in there. I never leave essays like this but It was just such a bad experience, I have to let the next person know.

Paid $70 for mediocre Haitian food in Nola. Shameful experience! Disclaimer: My girl is Haitian, so I know just how good Haitian food is ( It’s my Favorite food to be precise). This was by far the worse Haitian restaurant experience. The positive reviews here are either paid for or must be from a time of different management. We were looking forward to this restaurant because of the reviews and pictures, but left immensely disappointed. The place was dirty!! Our table cloth looked like it hadn’t been washed in a while. There were old wilted flowers on the table. The water in the vase was murky, smelly and attracted flying bugs which was an immediate turn off. Many of the online menu items are no longer available, so call before you go. Ordered the fish plate. Waited an hour for the food—-fine cause it was stewed red snapper cooked to order. The food was not awful, but missing the good spices and flavors that I’ve come to associate with Haitian food. As we were about to finish our meal, the herd of rodents crawling across the ceiling above directly above our heads had us throw down our utensils and request the check so quickly. We were so done. Our ride couldn’t get us fast enough. Won’t say don’t waste your money like we did, but go at your own risk.

If you want to try REAL Haitian food, come here! Food is delicious and giving my mother in law a run for her money! We had the Griot and Tasso, and I’m ready for a nap! Rice was delicious, griot has so much flavor in each bite, Tasso was cooked to perfection, and the Bannan? Omg I wish I could take everything home. The serving portions are amazing for the cost.

I am all for supporting black owned businesses, especially Haitian owned businesses, but this was the worst restaurant experience of my life. We waited by the door for 10 minutes before someone who was on their phone waited on us. We asked for beverages from 3 different staff members on 4 separate occasions and it never came. My turkey meal was mostly bones, the rice came out cold, they forgot the plantains that came with the meal, and only my husband was graced with salad dressing… The entire meal didn’t have a true Haitian taste or enough seasoning 🤢🤮 The cook and the staff were arguing loudly in the kitchen, making everyone uncomfortable. The staff was angry and one of them was crying. There was another table there that was waiting for over an hour just to find out that the staff never put in their order and they had to order again. Apparently they had to place their order 3 times. Honestly, after catching a $40+ Uber and the long wait, paired with the reviews, I thought the food would be OUT OF THIS WORLD but it wasn’t. As a Haitian from South FL… Don’t do it!!!

The restaurant was cozy when we arrived. We were seated quickly and an order came out in a timely manner. The food was delicious. The music was up to date and went with the venue. The Accra was really Delicious. This is true Haitian Creole cooking. They had the native drinks and dishes.

Google
I was excited to try this place after reading the reviews but I must say I'm deeply disappointed. We walk in since we had a out for lunch break even more excited because the place was empty so we expected to get our food at least within 30 minutes. Sad to say It took over an hour pass out break just to receive the food. We originally wanted three medium pan but they heard three large pans which came up to $65 it was horrible! The pork and chicken was hockey puck hard. To be honest after waiting an hour I was expecting better quality.

Yelp
The food was DELICIOUS! Don't let the exterior fool you. It looks like a Chinese restaurant, which it probably was at some point. And looked closed. But when we went in, we were transported. Very authentic Haitian food. We sat for 2 hours enjoying acra ( malanga fritters), goat, conch, black rice that is boiled with a mushroom broth, and more. Huge servings. Some Yelp reviewers complained about the staff not speaking enough English. I say, "lighten up." That's part of the experience.

Yelp
Always past this restaurant up, I'm glad I stop yesterday. Try this for first time yesterday, it was delicious! I will try the red snapper next.

Yelp
The worst restaurant in New Orleans and perhaps the entire STATE. Customer service was non-existent. Language barrier...no effort and basically told us what we were eating. Dirty floor...I mean food and beer bottle caps on the floor. Food was edible but was clearly reheated. Asked for water with lemon and got a bottle of water...still waiting on the lemon. 2 plates of goat, 2 vodka and cranberry cost 100. AVOID AT ALL COST.

Yelp
Don't even bother coming here. I came due to finding it on Groupon. The manager said it's only for turkey and I didn't come in to eat turkey, and the Groupon has no limitations. So save your Groupon and your time and go elsewhere.

Yelp
First time eating Haitian food and i don't regret picking this place as my first. This restaurant gives that home cooked feeling. The goat, conch and akra are to die for! The staff was very nice, well dressed, knowledgeable about the menu items and very friendly. Will definitely be going back everytime im in New Orleans! (Insider tip: mix the sauce with the rice)

Yelp
My friend & I tried this place and it was incredible. The atmosphere was warm & inviting. The food was delicious, and the portions are great. You can tell that everything is prepared fresh to order. This is the type of restaurant that you'll want to choose to dine in when you aren't in a rush.

Yelp
On entry the hostess was also the only waitress. So she greeted us at the door as she took the order of the only other couple in there. The laminated menus where dirty w/ food stains. It took her 15 min to come take our order. Everything we requested on the menu wasn't available right down to white rice and juice. Once we finally ordered she came back 10 min later to tell us one of the entrees was no longer available. So we settled for just one entree. 45 minutes into our arrival no water on our table no silverware and no food. There is literally only 4 ppl in here 2 tables to serve. Service shouldn't be this terrible. When we finally got the food it came in to go plates she said the cook thought it was to go. So we took it to go! I wouldn't come back here the food wasn't that good and the service was terrible!!

Yelp
Saw this place online and decided to try the food here. Food was great, atmosphere was great. Really good spot! Will be coming back.

Yelp
First off, I was ignored upon entry; no body acknowledged me to even take my order. I guess a event was being held which is fine but a customer is a customer who deserves great service at all time and especially given bomb ass food if I'm paying about 100$. If you didn't want to serve other customers while catering an event, you should've closed for the day instead of giving subpar service. The fish had no seasoning I basically bought plain, not fresh fish and the salad was terrible. The griot was dry as well. At least the tomato was okay high-key.at least saved me a trip to Walmart. The piklez smelt terrible and taste terrible. The bannan fri was oily and soggy. Most of the party couldn't even finish their food. God bless lol

Yelp
Food was amazing! Authentic Haitian food and something for everyone even if you aren't Haitian! Did I mention the amazing limeade?
