"For Katie Daly, who manages Renegade’s Pub in East Boston, Saturday is cause for anxiety. Renegade’s has been open for the vast majority of the pandemic, and Daly has had to play mask enforcer for most of that time. 'Customers had an air of anger because they’d been trapped inside for so long,' Daly says. 'I had to enforce [the mask mandate], and it pissed a lot of people off.' And that was when the mandate still existed. 'Now I can’t say much. Don’t get in someone else’s personal space, and don’t get mad at me for not wanting to take my mask off.' Daly thinks that the lifting of restrictions was abrupt and fears that once people are no longer mandated by the state to behave in a certain way with regard to masking, they’re going to do whatever they want. She’ll continue to wear a mask until she feels comfortable taking it off, whenever that may be." - Terrence Doyle

The waitress was so nice. There were no seats so she recommended other places across the street to eat at. We waited for a table anyway. The food was solid and good value. The beer selection was good but the whiskey selection was even better! My friend had a water spilled on him by another patron and the waitress brought him another beer on the house! Great people!

If you find yourself close by to this place it is worth your time. I was staying at a near by hotel and was told to check it out. It did not disappoint. The food was great and their whisky list was outstanding. The staff was great especially Chantel who was our bartender that night. If your looking a for a local bar that won’t disappoint, then this is the place. We will be back the next time we are in town.

Google
Great atmosphere! Good people, great drinks and the food is delicious. Sports are always on. Which is a plus for me. A home away from home. Step in, say hi to Knox and Val, and enjoy your evening.

Google
Great little neighborhood pub- awesome blue burger, local beers, wide range of whiskey and outstanding service! Wednesday trivia night fun be there early to get a seat!

Google
Such amazing food and great drinks! I had the renegade burger which was absolutely amazing and my wife had the 56 fries which were perfectly fried. The fried and battered jalapeños were incredible. The onion jam on the renegade burger made it easily one of the best burgers I've had in Boston. The bartender was amazing and the customers were also great to talk with. Highly recommend! I went in there as an outsider and was welcomed immediately.

Google
Valerie is amazing! We installed the sign lighting at Renegades Pub and she was so nice to work with—super communicative and even brought out food for our installers once we wrapped up. We love this pub!

Google
Best of all worlds: great food, beers on tap, awesome service. Came back for the food and beer selection, love it for the service. If you want to enjoy meal at a cool local spot, come here. Great place for a date or to meet friends.

Google
This is an outstanding little dive bar that was within walking distance from our hotel. The bartender (later I learned was the new owner) was very friendly upon our arrival. Our beverages never got below 1/3 empty before being asked if we wanted another. Valerie (I believe was her name) was very helpful with places to go visit on our short trip. She proved a list of bars/restaurants/clubs that she felt we would like (and she was spot on) in the downtown area. I got wings (forgot to snap a photo) on our lunch visit and then the Shroom Burger on Sundays dinner visit. Both very good food. Prices were amazing as well. The bourbon selection was amazing as well. I was very impressed to see this little bar with such a great selection of bourbon. If you are a dive bar person, this is your place. If you're not, instill believe you'll enjoy this little gem. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Give them a visit. I surely will the next time I'm up in Boston.

Carita D.

Yelp
This dive bar is so popular that it's often hard to get seated. However, the food is really cheap and the salads are surprisingly good.

DeAnna G.

Yelp
Stopped to grab a bite and for my son to get a drink before dropping off the rental car. We surprisingly found parking right in front. Came in, seat yourself. The waiter/bartender was handling the front himself and he was on top of it! He got us waters while we looked over the menu. My son ordered the DC which is a buttermilk chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings and he couldn't stop talking about how good the onion rings were. They were thin, red onions with a light coating. I had the Ladder 21 burger with onion rings. Delicious and juicy burger and the fried jalapeños knocked it out! Great prices, great food, great service!!!

Joe B.

Yelp
Not too shabby still with pub vibes and a-ok bites. Walk in friendly and ready to party!

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Amazingly good food and great service. Definitely a local bar. I think we found it while in the area by looking for "Dive bars." We were very pleasantly surprised by the food. Try to sit at the high top in front of the kitchen window to watch the magic in the kitchen! Bartender was awesome too (so sorry we forgot his name! It was on a Sunday afternoon.)

Steve J.

Yelp
Stuck in a hotel near Logan? Definitely go here. Good bar food, locals, and nice folks.

Gary D.

Yelp
Staying at a local hotel and wanted a local experience and a good martini. Ben at Renegades served up great service, conversation, and a great martini. The place was filled with locals which set up the exact ambiance I was looking for Thanks Ben !!

Yelp
After checking into my hotel after a very long and eventful flight, I had a craving for a blue cheese w/bacon cheeseburger, and I felt like that was so specific that I can only make it at home. Enter Renegades Pub. They had exactly what I wanted on their menu, they had a blue cheeseburger that you can modify any way you'd like. You can add onions, remove onion jam, or you can even add onion rings with white or red onions, ( which I thought was crazy). I got the red onion rings, some Cajun fries and my blue cheeseburger. I don't know what type of blue cheese they use or what they put in it, but it was absolutely amazing and the fact that they didn't use traditional lettuce on the burger, they used some sort of greens, amazing! My mouth was watering. I think I ate the food faster than I've ever eaten food in my life.

Anthony P.

Yelp
Atmosphere is perfect, great taps and the absolutely one of the best Rubens I've ever had! Gotta get the sweet potato fries with it, service is awesome! This spot is a great industry gather place for late bites or a local hangout to watch a game!

Jay F.

Yelp
Cool pub in East Boston. Varied rotating draft menu and really good food - available late evening when finding food can be a challenge. I had the namesake burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in years. Quality meat and cooked perfectly. Opted for a side of onion rings which were out of the ordinary- red onion rings very lightly battered so you could really taste the onion and not feel the guilt of mowing on fried decadence. They were perfect. Wish I would have taken some pics.

Tommy S.

Yelp
The coveted, invite only steak night is rumored to have the best del monicos that a charlie card can buy. The bar flys and their band of day drinkers are not only legends of Boston, they have embedded themselves deep into the annals of East Bostons legacy. A great place to get unsolicited keno advice while watching your best friend make out with a suspiciously masculine girl he met at the Lynn Auditorium. They recently fixed the bar, which looked like it was suffering from a bad case of peyronie's disease, but now it's straight as a board. But be careful, those back rests are wicked sharp!

Jason T.

Yelp
Cool little dive bar near Boston Logan where you can hear some good tunes and enjoy a tasty beverage. Chicken sandwich was on Point and bartender was very kind and accommodating. Only reason for 4 stars is they close at 1AM. Would be prefect if they went a little longer (2AM). Cheers!

Kelly C.

Yelp
Cozy atmosphere. Phenomenal bourbon selection. Sadly realized this after ordering a dirty gin martini; which was made perfectly. Not a total loss. Had the Reuben on gluten free bun with sweet potato fries. Delicious! Food was ready quickly. Bartender was the only wait staff I saw and she did an AWESOME job. Prices are fair for the portions. Highly recommend. East Boston Gem!

Nat A.

Yelp
Awesome hole in the wall pub. Crazy location on the corner (parking is tough!) but totally worth the pop in if you're in the area! Small bar area and a couple tables inside.Awesome staff (though understaffed) and the TVs always have sports on! Beers are cold (great local craft selection) and really cool almost dive atmosphere with killer pub food. Pop in, you won't be disappointed! We've been to their Londonderry location and it's been a fam fave for years so it was cool to stop in here. Londonderry's spot is a lot larger and has outdoor patio but same great food and experience. Thanks Renegade!

Igor R.

Yelp
Surprisingly great liquor and beer selection, excellent food, reasonable prices, pleasant staff and minimal frills. Renegade's is an absolute gem of East Boston. If it was slightly closer to my home, I would want it as my 'regular' spot. Will be looking forward to coming back!

Sarah W.

Yelp
Wow! This place treats you like family. Better - like a friend! Fantastic selection of taps and full bar. The pork lollipops were insanely good. Had the Ladder 21 burger. Cooked to perfection with fries that are worth indulging for. Food came out hot and quickly. Screens to watch your fav team too. Would be a regular if local. Highly recommend. Nothing fancy. Comfortable. Great prices. Did a mention great brews? And lovely selection of hot sauces with stellar bar service.

Michael K.

Yelp
Small place with appx 5 tables and a bar. Drinks were good and different. Try a brown butter bourbon cocktail! Food was decent but get the fried pork rinds!

Suzanne F.

Yelp
Great pub with good food and friendly service. Prices are fair and the atmosphere is friendly.

Greg K.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick burger and beer(s). Quality service even with a packed bar and only the bartender on duty. Would definitely go back.

Michael K.

Yelp
Probably top 3 in my burgers I have had. Cool spot.... Cool bartender. Great drinks and banging burger. I had the Renegade Burger and the Engine 56 fries. One of the best burgers In have had is at a spot called Mission in RI. This was not far behind that . Cool vibe in East Boston...great food ... Great service. It's a win win. #BuddhaReview

Yelp
I saw the good reviews and decided to pop in. I got the vegetarian burger, though they are not typically good in a pub. This one was excellent. The patty was good (bean based), but the toppings like the cucumber were also fresh. It had just enough dressing on it, too. I really wanted the tater tots, but the server thoughtfully told me they have meat in them. Obviously, I'm vegetarian ordering the veggie patty in a bar. I feel like most people wouldn't care enough to even mention it. I ordered the onion rings instead. There were tons. I am a bigger fan of the large white onion rings. They use red onions, and they're more like onion strings that happen to be in a circle :) Regardless, they were good. I would come back.

Yashaun M.

Yelp
Service was little slow but Atmosphere and food was awesome second time in Boston definitely would go back here!!!

Brendan S.

Yelp
Visiting from LA, awesome place with good eat and drink. Renegade burger was excellent, tots quite unique, prompt and kind service.

Krisha H.

Yelp
Loved the food and the hospitality. The music was another plus! I didn't snap a pic of my food but it was awesome!!I had the Ladder 21 with a side of onion rings.

Melissa L.

Yelp
Omg that fried chicken sandwich..... seriously was one of the best I have ever encountered. The rings that were fried on top were fresh and the fried pickles were a nice touch!! Flavor was great and it was not dry. I was so happy about it! It was so good I did not even share a bite with the hubby The hubby had the burger with chipotle sauce and peppers and he enjoyed his as well. The fries were also nice and fresh and not salty. Service was great as we walked in and told the bartender we just wanted to order to go. She was really sweet took our orders and we just sat down and relaxed. It is a very cute bar;small for big parties but a more cozier setting to it. If we did not have to wake up so early to catch a flight we would have partook in some beer. All in all, if it was in my area, I would be going often to check out more of the menu!

Derik N.

Yelp
Great local spot with a yummy burger. The staff was friendly and helpful I'll be back next time I'm in town.

Mark F.

Yelp
Recently moved back to Eastie and discovered this place almost by accident! Came in on a Sunday after a long bike ride, and their beer selection was just what the doctor ordered! But really, the food is a selling point here - both the Renegade Burger and the onion rings were first rate. You'll never starve in East Boston, and the food scene is very competitive. So what's nice about the Renegade is their total lack of pretentiousness. Good food, fine beer selection, and friendly service. I'll definitely be back!

Jen W.

Yelp
If you are in the area you absolutely must stop here! We were staying nearby flying in/out of Logan looking for food at 10:45pm on a Monday (which is late here). This place has great drinks, super friendly service and delicious food! We had the chicken sandwich and steak and cheese with onion rings; both were absolutely amazing! I know what you are thinking chicken sandwich eh, but this was hands down the best chicken sandwich I've ever had- perfectly toasted brioche bun, Renegade sauce (5 stars on that alone), red onion, pickles and perfectly melted cheese. This sandwich had more attention to detail than ones three times the price. The steak and cheese was fantastic with a soft warm roll, tender ribeye, mushrooms, onions and peppers.

Beth B.

Yelp
This is my neighborhood bar and it's never as busy as i think it should be! More people should come here! Great beer list, very good fries and burgers.

Kathleen B.

Yelp
I this a departure from my first review. I must admit the food was still good portions are small for prices. My biggest complaint is service! Todays bartender was more interest in speaking with his friend and giving them free shots at the bar than providing service. The first two times I was here it was a female today was a male. He was over the top rude and asking him a question about the food or beer caused home trouble, his attitude was like fuck off if you don't know already. So sad because really a great neighborhood place or at least I thought so before.

Meg K.

Yelp
Barman super rude, serves their friends sitting at the bar before making your drink when you've ordered 10 mins before that, no interest in other customers. Our food was left sitting on the window for ages, you could see the chef in the kitchen was frustrated at that! Unfriendly, more like a spot that someone owns for their friends to hang out in, don't care about other customers

Pedro-Lucas F.

Yelp
This thing is a work of art. I've been coming here since the place opened and I couldn't not share this burger I had recently . The entire menu is amazing, it's one of the top 3 burger joint in the city and its not 2 or 3. Boston Burger Company who?

William T.

Yelp
What a great spot. Every time we drive down from Maine for an early flight out of Logan the next morning, we drop in for beers and a burger the night before. The beer list is great and the burgers are terrific. Always a happy place, bartenders, servers are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Jake T.

Yelp
As someone who lives only 5 minutes from this place, I am so glad that it is here. The prices for the burgers are unbeatable and the section is big enough where you don't feel like you have to get the same thing all the time. I tried the Engine 56 fries and they were decent but I also didn't realize it came with jalapenos but still, the Renegades sauce made it worth it. The Pork Lollipops are a perfect snack to pair with a burger and they have Downeast Cider to drink. Renegades not going to win an award for the best burger but they will, for sure, give a solid burger at a great price. Perfect corner bar to watch the game on a Sunday afternoon.

Nina N.

Yelp
I like what they're doing here and I'm amazed at the transformation of this place from when I used to live in Eastie and it was Jimmy Mags and then the Victory pub. The times they are a-changin! Had lunch here and it was solid. Salad, sandwiches and fries. Nice pubby, dark atmosphere. Keep up the good work!

Juan L.

Yelp
I really want to give this place more then 3 stars because I really enjoy their burgers, their beer and bourbon selection. The location is great and the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. Things I recommend: Sesame ginger wings - so damn good Renegade burger Shroom burger - I love mushrooms Fried chicken - try this, thank me later The things that keeps me from rating this place higher, is the service. I consider myself a regular since I go at least twice a month with my girlfriend. We both enjoy burgers and bourbon. Every since we started coming here the service is slow, the employees are always talking among themselves on the corner of the bar and ignoring clients. I'm a reasonable person but I shouldn't have to chase the wait staff to order or to even pay. This has happened a couple times, I understand when the place is packed. However, it has happened when there are no more than 7 patrons at the restaurant. Seems like the wait staff gives priority to individuals they know. I noticed the service to us has improved over time as they recognizes us. It shouldn't be that way. Great food, atmosphere, drinks but this place seriously needs to improve their service.

Duane H.

Yelp
What a great little bar!! I come to Boston often for work, and stay right down the road, this place is very close to the "T" so I always stop in for a drink coming and going. DO NOT JUDGE this place by it's size until you have tried it. Yes it's a great place to go and get a drink with the locals, the atmosphere is everything I envisioned a Boston bar to be ... but once you have at least tried one of their burgers you will understand. The Bennington Burger is off the hook!! (See picture) I can't wait to go back to Boston so I can stop in again!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot, Katie is the bomb! Obsessed with their little burgers and the garlic sauce with the fries.

Chrissy N.

Yelp
We were staying at a Courtyard Marriott near the airport and was looking for someplace casual to drink a beer and get a bite to eat. This place was highly ranked on Yelp so we thought we would give it a try. The second we walked it, we knew it would be good. The menu is small but it is cooked to perfection. We started off with pork rinds and fried pickles and they were so good! The pork rinds were still crackling when the server brought them out. There was a great selection of beer and ciders. For our lunch my husband and I both got burgers. These did not disappoint. If you are looking for a hidden gem and with great service and food you need to visit.

Allie B.

Yelp
What a great spot all around. Cool, casual atmosphere, great food, awesome beer selection, and super friendly staff. We live right down the street and over the past year or so we've probably had more ladder 21 and veggie burgers than is considered acceptable...It's well worth it. :) the fries are great and I'm not sure exactly what is in renegade sauce but it's addicting. If you're in the area, or just looking for a great, well priced bite around town, this is the spot for you.

Chun T.

Yelp
I love the vibes it reminds me the old town school bar or hometown local bar. It's cozy, bartenders are nice and friendly. Love the drafts and drinks options. Only thing I think need to be improved is the food. It's a decent hangover or drinking food, but I'm not sure why my stomach was very upset when I'm home. However, I might give them a try again. After all, it's a very good bar!

David N.

Yelp
Fantastic burgers, fries, and onion rings. We were a leery at first, due to a very relaxed environment. But service was friendly and food was great. I had the bandit burger my wife had mushroom burger. Fresh and tasty.

William H.

Yelp
It's great. The burgers are underrated. The beer list is top notch. You wanna experience peak NE breweing, this is the place. Everything on the menu is good. I think the renegade burger is too sweet, maybe avoid that, but all the sides kick ass. I've got a weak stomach, so avoid the tater tots (chorizo) if you're like me... super tasty tho. Hog wings/pork lollipops fucking rule.

Tanner J.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place for a little neighborhood bar. The food is outstanding every single time. They've been making some changes lately though that have dropped down their score from me as well as their bartenders are very inconsistent. The guy who has been working lately has been very attentive and customer focused though which is nice. The bacon change on the Engine 56 fries is sad. Went from thick chunks to paper thin slices. This place bills itself as kind of a whiskey bar, but their bartenders can't make the basics without any consistency. They don't even make their listed cocktails on the menu correctly. NO ONE and I mean no one wants soda water in their Old Fashioned. Having a legit bartending class for the staff where they're taught to make the basic whiskey cocktails would go a really long way here. I know it sounds like I'm bitching, but I really do love this place. Great good, great beer selection, they've been great during COVID. Only downside is food prices have risen since opening (I get it, I truly do), but raising the prices and lowering the quality (The bacon!) shouldn't go together and their cocktail program could be a real cocktail program and not be dependent on who is working that night. Maybe this working class neighborhood doesn't want a good cocktail most nights, but a lot of people do.

Bo F.

Yelp
I can start by saying, it'll do. The night I arrived there were 2 employees A bar keep, and a cook. The bar was full, she was in the weeds. The cook was leaning on the counter watching the room, his end looked under control. We had a round of bottled beer, corona and down east An order of wings (far and away highest priced wings in the city) $1.60/ea and were only average in size and taste. This is a burger bar at its core. I won't be a burger snob and criticize a basic burger. There wasn't anything extraordinary or disappointing about these fairly simple burgers. The burgers were fine, the drinks were fine, and the appetizers was pricy, but fine. If the burgers were bigger, heavier, more unique I'd pay more happily, If the drinks were a bit cheaper, I'd have stayed for 3, If the wings were a better value I'd stop more often and repeat the order often. As a local, I couldn't afford to unseat my other stable of go-to burger joints. This restaurant is new, I'm sure they're well within the adjustment period. I'll be back for a follow up.

Robyn T.

Yelp
Renegades is starting to becoming our neighborhood favorite. So I ordered sushi next door, and decided to grab a whiskey at Renegades while I waited. What a mistake! I should have just stayed and eaten there! Well I brought my husband the next time and we grabbed burgers and beers. Everything was delicious. The burgers were juicy and tender, the toppings (I got the Shroom, hubs got the Bacon Cheeseburger) were super fresh and the fries we ordered with it were the perfect saltiness and consistency. Plus it's got a great bar selection. The prices are very reasonable which makes it easy to make it a regular spot. And the people that sit at the bar all seem to know each other which gives it that comfortable, neighborhood feel. I've been back a few times and although my waistline seems to keep growing, it's all been worth it.

C S.

Yelp
Fun, low key neighborhood bar full of locals. Food not so great, but service is friendly. Place is tiny but perfect to grab a beer or two.

Zachary C.

Yelp
Found this on a whim. Great atmosphere, only 1 bartender so I felt kinda bad as he was hustling the bar and tables. But other than that. The food kicked butt, gotta try a 33oz Narragansett and 56 fries. Great music. Would go back for a chill spot.

Suzanne B.

Yelp
When someone goes out to grab a burger they usually don't usually think their night will end in a trip to the emergency room for a tetanus shot, 3 inch gash on the back of their heel, and their shoes being destroyed by pools of blood streaming from an open wound. However, this is what waited for me when I visited the Renegade Pub. I didn't get to taste the food because upon entering the door slammed into the back of my heel with such violent force I fell to the ground. It didn't even give me enough time to walk through it. When I looked up a patron was helping me and I had blood covering my hands. The bartender and waitstaff did nothing to help and didn't even acknowledge me as I stood there bleeding until advised to do so by a patron who also exclaimed that the door had done something similar to her. This is serious safety issue. Your door is broken. But, worst of all was the service. The bartender wouldn't have helped unless prodded by a patron. He eventually gave me some bandaids. I asked that the they post a sign on the door to please alert visitors so that someone doesn't get similarly hurt. He promised he would. They didn't. I live right up the street. No sign. This place is disgusting and I have serious issue with the upkeep and general cleansliness. There was bloody napkins, blood on the floor, and blood on the table that people eat off of and I told him they need to clean it as I left to take myself to the hospital. The bartender just shrugged his shoulders. The owner called me this afternoon and informed me the injury was my fault. The door was not broken because it was windy. Not true. Not windy last night. Even if it was, it still doesn't account for the fact that you're okay with having a jagged piece of metal jutting out of the door or human dna fluid all over table tops and floors without properly cleaning it. Please do not go to this restaurant.

David D.

Yelp
Great little bar in E. Boston/Winthrop!! We drive by here all the time and always talk about stopping in. We finally did and I loved it. They didn't have a huge tap list, maybe 12 beers, bu it was solid and offered a good variety. They also have a good bourbon selection. Our bartender, Hannah, was really friendly and knowledge. She knew her beers and bourbons. She provided several good recommendations. The food looked really good. My friend ordered the pork cracklins and loved them. They come out hot and still popping. I can't wait to go back. If I could give 4.5 I would. ************************************* I really liked this place as you can tell from my initial review. I wish there was a way to post a second review instead of just updating. Anyway.... I had a chance to come back and was excited. I tried to order a Bulleit Bourbon and was told they don't carry it. I asked for a list and was told that they rotate their bourbons and therefore don't have a list. Funny! They also rotate their beers and have a list on the wall. I explained that I couldn't really read the bottles. The print isn't that big and so I think that's reasonable. The bartender didn't offer to make any recommendations so I just went with Makers. For my next drink I tried to order a double and she simply respond, "Single". OK then!! I'm hanging out and all of a sudden the bartender cranks up the music. The place is small and all the table and seats at the bar were full. The music could be heard just fine even over the buzz of the people. I'm not sure why you would turn up the music. What's funny about this move is that the couple next to me at the bar had ordered a salad and a chicken sandwich. They were delivered a salad and two chicken sandwiches. They were right in front of the bartender and she didn't get it right and this was before she turned up the music. As you would expect nobody could hear each other because of the music so everyone is talking louder aka yelling. I know they have good burgers. I ordered the Ladder 21. A burger with chipotle aoli, fried jalapeños, pepper jack, avocado, and Cajun seasoning with a side of onion rings. I love onion rings. I was looking forward to them. Guess what? She didn't hear me apparently and I got fries instead. I was let down. Turn down the music!! The bartender comes back about a minute later and asks how my burger is. I clearly hadn't taken a bite and she clearly didn't care because as soon as the question left her mouth she started talking to the people behind me. It really goes to show the difference a good bartender makes and I think the reviews from my two visits show that. This bartender, Katie, I believe, couldn't care less, especially if you weren't a regular. This visit was on 1/10/2020. I'll come back, but if I see this bartender and it's busy I'll likely leave. P.S. Then there's a twist. The bartender never took my card and didn't know what I ordered. I had to recap my night for her and for some reason she decided to comp a drink. It's a nice gesture yet unwarranted. Should it impact my review? That's your call.

Jay R.

First off, thank you for joining the Eastie neighborhood!!! Second, the beer list is awesome! Great local beers both on draft and can/bottle. So far I have only had the Panko chicken appetizer with honey barbecue sauce and it was delicious! I highly recommend this place!!!! Also had the Renegade Burger. I wanted another one half way through the first!
