The Best Thai Restaurants in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"This just-off-the-5 Norwalk restaurant, formally owned by the family behind Lotus of Siam, specializes in Northern Thai delicacies. Stop by for a great version of nam kao tod, a crispy rice salad with plenty of fermented pork sausage and red cotton flower noodle soup known as kanom jeen nam ngiao. The kang hung lay, or Northern-style curry, is mild in terms of heat but boasts fall-apart pork stewed in a garlic-forward curry paste that’s balanced with shrimp paste, galangal, shallots, lemongrass, and turmeric." - Kat Thompson

Amazing, authentic and fresh Thai food. The service is always great as well. We loved the seafood coconut soup and the red curry was our favorite dish. It’s also great that every dish comes with the option of protein for vegetarians.

Chicken Pad see ew is one of my most favorite dishes which I always get but this time I was a bit disappointed. The flavor was off and I couldn't enjoy it. Everything else was good and the service was good. I've been coming here for a long time and I'll probably still keep coming. But I was was disappointed that they changed their recipe for the Pad see ew.

Google
The service here is great and the staff is super friendly! We walked in and noticed the place was a quiet and relaxing atmosphere which is nice for a place located in a strip mall. I ordered the Red Curry (#125) with chicken and asked for extra spicy. The thin strips of chicken were paired with slices of bell peppers and had a hint of mint as well. It was simmering in a coconut milk broth and was decently spicy without compromising flavor. My wife ordered the Kai Koowah (#106) and hers was equally as delicious. I sampled hers and the beef was tender, delicious and the thick cut noodles were fantastic. Mi Ama ordered the pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp. Hers was also very tasty and came as a large enough portion to share with the family. We highly recommend this place if you are craving some great Thai Food! We will definitely come back for more!

I was nearby and just wanted a quick soup. I found the perfect place! The Tom Kah Kai bowl is absolutely delicious and really hit the spot! Friendly, helpful, fast service. Super clean and new. Kind of pricey for a bowl of soup but it was really good!

Nice Northern Thai food in US! Don’t expect to find one 😋 Foods are decent. Dish is rather small comparing to American restaurant. Good thing is you can try more different type.

Google
Pad se ew was so good but the soups were delicious. Soups in attached photos : glass noodles with minced chicken, black mushroom, and onion and beef noodle soup with green onion and meatballs. Thai tea was like any other, but non-refill.

Google
I happened to work near and it’s been on my list. I had the following items on the menus: Wontons soup Pad Thai Egg rolls Thai tea Fried Rice The food was ok, the soup had no flavor whatsoever. But the rest of the stuff was decent. Paid $75.00 plus $15.00 tip. It gets pretty busy around lunch time but if you want some Thai food and you happen to be on the area this is the place to go. I’ve had better Thai food.

Google
Came here close to closing time and despite that the generous waiter told us we can order still. A real one. We ordered the yellow chicken curry, water and a Thai tea … all delicious . The waiter suggested a Thai lemon ice tea due to my lactose tolerance and I have to say , it was the greatest thing ever. This shows you how customer service can go a long way.

Yelp
Looking for a top-notch Thai restaurant? Norwalk's got the best one in town! Renu Thai Cuisine!! 13019 Rosecrans Ave # 105. Tom Kah Seafood, Red Curry, Ginger, Pineapple Rice, tofu Pad Thai. All very tasty the service was excellent.

Yelp
My review per UrbanSpoon/Zomato from July 10 2015: Got take out (FAST!) and anytime I try a new Thai place, my standard is the Pad Thai. If they get that right, they're alright! This place got it right and complemented it with fried rice & 3 fried dumplings w/duck sauce. Apparently, it comes without a standard or varying heat levels -- they include the spice on the side to add to your preferential liking. Would return! Colorful and well made Pad Thai, not greasy like other places. Hope to try more dishes next time! Be aware no credit cards accepted for purchases less than $10.

Yelp
I am not sure why this place doesn't have a five star! Everything was amazing! I had the coconut seafood soup. Most delicious balance and perfect portion. Super friendly workers and owners. Nice quiet vibe with relaxing Asian instrumental music. Amazing experience! The owner is so sweet and followed up with me and asked how I liked the food! I felt like at home

Yelp
Met up with some friends for lunch. Was welcomed upon entering and quicky seated. Opted for the Pad Thai and substituted the chicken and shrimp for tofu. To drink, I had a Thai iced coffee. All of our food came out extremely fast! The pad Thai was so flavorful, saucy, and savory, the raw bean sprouts gave the dish a nice crunch and freshness. The Thai iced coffee was ok, it didn't have much of a coffee flavor at all. It tasted like watered down condensed milk IMO. (Don't think I'd get it again) Service was great, we waited for a couple people to arrive and placed their orders for them prior to them coming. They (the restaurant) kept their meals warm for them awaiting their arrival. There is an ample amount of seating, several booths as well as tables throughout the restaurant. Also, they offer lunch and dinner specials Monday through Friday! Definitely recommend even just for a quick bite!

Yelp
The new management of this Thai is terrible. I asked for bigger portion and I'll pay for it, but they only charged me for if not giving me bigger portion. This is my usual Thai place unfortunately will be my last.

Yelp
My friend and I came to Reno Nakorn for an early dinner although in the past when we would come to this restaurant it was during lunch and always busy but luckily at dinner it wasn't busy at all... The food was okay but I felt it was lacking flavor in compare to previous times..Although we did enjoy the sticky rice and mango for dessert.. We will be back and give them one more chance!!

Yelp
Another fantastic meal at Renu Nakorn. This service is always excellent and the food is always fresh and delicious. It's all great: Nam Kao Tod, Steamed Chicken Dumplings, Tom Kah Kai Soup, Panang Curry, Khao Soi, and Mint and Green Chili, Sauteed with chili, garlic and sweet basil La Mirada is not known for their restaurants, but Renu Nakorn is a hidden gem. If you ever make it down this way, this is the place for Thai food.

Yelp
I really can't Believe I just paid 16.99 for Shrimp fried rice that ONLY HAD 3 shrimp!!!! And one of them still had the poop line in tact ! This is a nice look restaurant but the food is very bland I also got the garlic beef and it's like soup yuck ! And the Kung pow chicken it was ok still not much flavor I'm really disappointed so mad I spend almost 60 bucks and the food tastes like it came from a hospital cafeteria ..... never going back

Yelp
It was a party of two when I visited. We ordered the mixed pad Thai and egg rolls pineapple curry chicken with two fountain drinks. Every thing was fresh and hot and ready to enjoy. I would recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
Service was great , friendly staff ! I tried the #39 seafood mix extra spicy for the new years hangover and it was amazing. One of the best soups i ever tried . I am very picky when it comes to food and believe me this is my new soup spot . Definitely recommend this place .

Yelp
My friend and I swung by for a quick lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and it was good! We were greeted immediately, and our server promptly greeted us. We ordered their papaya salad to share, which was absolutely delicious, along with their combination beef noodle soup. I enjoyed the beef noodle soup, especially after a late night of drinking. Their noodles were cooked perfectly, and went well with their broth; however, despite requesting no vegetables in one of our dishes, we discovered quite a few green onions and bean sprouts. Our server was incredible thoughtful and helped to pack our leftovers for us. The restaurant itself seemed very simple inside, and seemed like their servers were working on tidying up several tables after a smidge of a lunch rush. Plenty of parking available in the plaza.

Yelp
This is by far the skimpiest serving I've had here. This is such a rip off. $15.99 for fried rice served in a meal prep containers? I paid $85 for 4 meal prep containers that weren't even filled. They loaded my pad Thai with more bean sprouts than noodles. I get everything is expensive, but at least give customers the same serving as before. They cut your serving in half and raised the prices. Definitely not coming here. I ordered shrimp fried rice, and got 3 shrimps. smh. Food was not hot, just warm.

Eee V.

Yelp
It was my first time trying them out few friends recommended it. Its location isnt too bad, parking can be limited during peak hours it is surrounded by other food places but plenty when it's calmed down. It is spacious inside, clean, plenty of seating, fair pricing and the staff is very kind and provide excellent service. It was my first time trying out Thai food as well, I was used to chinese food so this healthier alternative could strike the taste buds a bit different but doesn't disappoint. I tried the pad Thqai shrimp plate and I would definitely get it again. I still have plenty of dishes to try out as I'm getting more familiar with their style. I recommend them

Yelp
a gem with secret vegan options! the customer service here always goes above and beyond. i am in love with the vegan papaya salad, vegan vegetable pad thai, and vegan thai tea! these options are not on their menu (although they totally should be!) but as long as you let the waiter/waitress know you want it vegan/vegetarian, they can easily accommodate! it is my go-to order and i haven't found another thai restaurant that even compares to the peaceful ambiance of this family friendly place. the workers literally treat their customers like family; they're so nice. it's a small intimate restaurant with plenty of parking spots! overall, highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here for lunch, and the flavor of my curry was awesome. The servers were great. Thai Ice Tea and Thai Ice Coffee were just the right amount of sweet.

Yelp
Service is spectacular, food is amazingly good, flavorful, and fresh. Seating is quick and the ambiance of so calming, chill and a great place for a conversation over food. Our favorite Thai spot!

Yelp
I use to l love this restaurant and was my favorite for the longest. My coworker's and I would usually eat there for lunch when we had meetings at the court house in Norwalk for years. However, one day I walked in casually with my kids (without my professional attire). We arrived first and were standing there to be seated. However, I began observing that others after us began getting seating first. Initially, I thought that it was because there were 4 of us and needed a bigger table, but that was not the case. I began that all that were being seated were Caucasian or in suits accompanied by caucasians. When my family and I were finally seated, everyone ese was being tended to and served leaving us until the end. From the time we got seated to taking our order 2 hours had passed. Yes, we were discriminated for being Latino. I was so sad and disappointed I never returned. This did not happen recently with all this political turmoil by the way. It around 12 years ago. But, this goes to show you how you lost a client of 7 years with the family in one day!

Yelp
Renu Nakorn is a renowned thai restaurant in the Los Angeles area. You may not assume this based on its location tucked away in a strip mall, but this place never disappoints. The servers take time to remember regulars by name and what they like to eat. As a vegan, many thai restaurants are unable to adapt dishes to my diet, but they take time to explain which dishes they can make and are transparent about the ingredients. Every meal has been consistently excellent and there is never a lapse of quality or freshness. So far I've had, Pad Thai, Papaya Salad, Pad See Ew, Tom Kha Kai, Spring Rolls and a Thai Tea that the sever makes with lemon which tastes very fresh. Come here to sit comfortably in a nice booth and enjoy great thai food, they can likely accommodate to your needs.

Yelp
Good food, service is friendly and fast!! We will definitely be back soon! Great place, clean!

Yelp
This is the best Thai place in town! Not only do they have delicious traditional flavors they also have 6 out of 5 star service! They always treat me like family and promptly answer any questions I have. So glad I found Renu! I go so often they know my name before I even tell them.

Yelp
horrible!!!!!!!! the shrimp friend rice is literally half of the tray & its 15.99 for rice & 4 pcs of shrimp. The papaya salad is a joke haha ha forgot to laugh. They give you a slice of cabbage & again the salad half of half of the tray. Been to other Thai locations and this has to be the skimpiest food I have ever seen in my entire life...& im asian lol. i do not recommend this place!!! in & out taste better than this & is way cheaper & much more filling & fresh than this ish. good luck to you buying this mediocre food. Called back & lady hung up on me...mediocre food mediocre service. What more can you expect? Nothing. Save gas going here.

Yelp
Food is authentic Thai! Most pad Thai I had tend to be Americanized, too sweet, this place brought me back to the original pad Thai taste. The menu is extensive! It has more Northern Thai flavor, which I don't mind. If I was hungrier I would have ordered more.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Ordered the tofu pad thai dinner special. The dumplings were nice and crispy with good flavor, and both the soup and salad were decent! As for the pad thai, taste was good, possibly a bit light on flavor, but the noodles were cooked well. There were SO many bean sprouts in the dish though, like almost as many sprouts as there were noodles, and the portions are pretty small which is why I took a star off. Overall would probably eat here again since it's close to home and food was served relatively quickly.
google avatar

Yesenia H.

Yelp
This place is horrible! My dad went here after work, and they literally profiled him. They attended other people first (that got there after him) the server throw the menu on the table. After they were rushing him to get out. (Only him) Never coming back here! Besides the food was not good at all.
google avatar

Danny S.

Yelp
Was introduced to this place by a friend of mine. I loved the food and the service. I am lao and the flavor of there regional cuisine hit the spot. I believe they specialize in Northern Thai and Isaan style. Will be coming back for sure.

Yelp
Good Service Good Food Love It Here Even Chicken Teriyaki Is Delicious ..........................................
google avatar

Itzel G.

Yelp
Service was great they're really nice. I wasn't impressed food wise! This was $35 the pad see needed flavor super oily. And the soup flavor wise was ok pretty accurate got the large and it only had 3 shrimps and the mushrooms were mushy they also sliced a tomato in half and threw it in there idk if that's there thing lol. I only had the broth I couldn't eat it I wouldn't come here again to be honest. If you want flavorful authentic Thai food you must try "bowl Thai" in Gardena they give you the rise for your soup for free and it has a lot of shrimp and cleaned and the pad se has so much flavor still don't do dine in but pick up is available and it's boiling hot so will be hot by the time you get home !!! Next time I'll stick to this place and do the drive ! It's 100% worth it

Ricky Q.

Yelp
Been going here for years and the portions and flavors haven't seemed to change. Really good food and customer service. Obsessed with the jasmine tea.

Yelp
It's been a while, Northern Thai food craving. Hung lay- northern style ginger stewed pork curry Tum Ka noon- pounded flavorful jackfruit salad with veggies Chinese broccoli topped with fresh crispy pork belly! And of course, side of sticky rice. Finished with mango and sticky rice with coconut milk ice cream! This by far is the best combination of dishes ordered and flavors. Solid friendly service, food was quick, and delicious authentic Northern Thai flavors. Get your mango sticky rice, the season is in earlier than expected! Hope this mango season last until end of summer.

Yelp
Walked in for a table at 7:41 and said he closes at 8 and I cannot be seated.... haha wow. If you close at 8, changed your time on Yelp please.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming to this little gem for over 5 years and we absolutely love it. The food is always good, tasty. They bring it out fast. We love the service, Chris is super friendly. They attend you so well. We have no complaints here. We come often and never get tired. We always recommend people to give it a try. So if you are ever in town, stop by and give it a try. It can be pricey, but we love it.

Yelp
One of the best Thai food restaurants around. Great food and wonderful service. Ordered chicken satay, pineapple fried rice and pad thai, all 10/10. Highly recommended trying this establishment.

Yelp

Yelp
The Tum Yum Kung is out of this world. A perfect soup for cold days. I ordered a side of Fried Won Tons to go with my soup and I was in heaven. This place is gem, give it a try it is so worth it!

Megan F.

Yelp
I have been a customer of theirs for years! The food is absolutely delicious, the staff is so kind and welcoming and I highly recommend their food to anyone that wants a consistently good experience.
google avatar

Citlalic R.

Yelp
The egg rolls stuffed with veggies were so warm and crispy accompanied by their homemade sweet and sour sauce and their beef and shrimp pad Thai is tasty. The noodles did not stick together and the shrimp was cooked to perfection and not over cooked. The Seafood Tom Kha soup includes scallops, shrimp, crab, fish and mussels; the broth is citrusy.
google avatar

Glorifyhim316 ..

Yelp
Warning... very small portions. Paid $28 for two dishes, not really worth it due to portion size. pad se ew: nothing special, a little bland. Red curry with shrimp: very little shrimp, good taste, no rice included. It costs extra $2 just for rice, which is pretty expensive.
google avatar

Drew S.

Yelp
$13.99+ tax for a "sampler size" chicken curry. I know it's inflation but come on! really disappointed

Molly R.

Yelp
Always great service and stellar food, my little sister said to me, "I hope this place is in heaven"

K L.

Yelp
Soooooooo good!!!! I will come back for the kao soi! However, I was thinking about minus one star bc I thought we were in thailand-- it was so hot in the restaurant!
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Definitely a family favorite! We come here at least twice a month. Love the chicken satay, pad thai, shrimp fried rice, mongolian beef, tom yum seafood soup to name a few. Staff is always welcoming and attentive.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Seriously the best Pad Thai dinner special. I've been to many Thai restaurants where pad thai is dried out and the noodles are all stuck together, this IS NOT the case here! I'm in love! Flavors and portions are amazing! I highly recommend.

Yelp
Was driving home from work through this part of town and wanted some Thai food. Saw the high number of reviews and high ratings so decided to give this place a shot. I called in and ordered a yellow curry with chicken. I also had to add a side of rice with the curry, it doesn't come with it. At the end of the call, the lady on the other side of the phone tells me nonchalantly that it'll be 17.18. I couldn't believe my ears, and she confirms that the chicken curry is 12.99 and rice is 2.5. It was late so I went ahead with it anyways, hoping that the portions were huge. Unfortunately, the portions are average. I got home, ate it. Overall, food wasn't bad, but also did not blow me away. For 17 dollars, I would expect a lot more. I most likely will not be returning to this establishment. 17 dollars for a yellow curry chicken seems like highway robbery.

Tanya N.

Yelp
Foods are very tasty and prices are reasonable. The service is very nice and time is perfect.
