"There’s another new rooftop bar and restaurant landing in the East Bay: Called Study Hall, the self-described lounge will debut atop the new Residence Inn in downtown Berkeley in March and will be the highest rooftop bar and restaurant in the city. The new dining and drinking destination and will offer not only views of the Bay, but also a perch with unobstructed views of the University of California Berkeley campus." - Lauren Saria

Positive: Great location, very large room, breakfast was the usual microwaved stuff but they had nice options like tofu scramble with gochujang sauce. Oatmeal bar had nice selection of toppings, and nice to have oat milk. Negative: Poor lighting in rooms especially kitchen/living area, fitness center had room for more equipment like weight machines, parking much too expensive with valet only which with tip and taxes is over $60/day.

The hotel its self is amazing and in a place surrounded by shops and restaurants. The elevators didn’t always work. To have on site parking it would cost $54 a night which it advertised as free. The breakfast was the second best I’ve ever had! My bathroom door was hard to lock but the shower was really nice. The pullout sofa bed was honestly more comfortable than the real beds (I prefer to not sink into the bed). Really accommodating service!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with the valet services at The Residence Inn – Berkeley during our stay in late October when we came to watch the Cal football game. While the hotel itself was fine, the valet service was a nightmare. When we picked up our car upon departure, the valet had parked it haphazardly and rushed us off without any care or professionalism. Two hours later, we stopped to charge the car and noticed two massive gouges on the passenger-side rim, still coated with cement residue. It was obvious the damage happened under their care. I immediately called the hotel but was told the valet manager wasn’t available. Over the next several weeks, I called repeatedly, leaving messages for the valet manager, the front desk, and even the general manager. No one bothered to call me back until mid-November, when the valet manager left a single voicemail saying they would open a claim. Despite this, I heard nothing else. After being ignored for weeks, I had to escalate the issue to Marriott customer service, who finally pushed the valet service, Towne Park, to open a formal claim. But even after all this effort, Towne Park denied my claim, claiming their valets weren’t at fault. This is completely unacceptable, as the damage occurred while the car was in their possession, and the cement residue was clear evidence. This is a brand-new car that had been spotless before our trip. Adding to my frustration, the rim they damaged costs over $1,000 to replace—this isn’t a minor issue, and I wouldn’t be nearly as upset if it were. The lack of accountability and abysmal communication made this experience infuriating. Besides that single voicemail, no one returned my calls despite my repeated requests for a phone conversation. This was by far the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. I will never stay at this hotel again, and I’ll make sure to warn anyone who is thinking of staying there. If you care about your vehicle, avoid this valet service at all costs.

Google
More like an expensive dorm hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean. Beds are nice. Loud HVAC system though so not ideal for light sleepers. Great views from the higher floors. If you’re visiting UC Berkeley then you can’t beat the proximity as it’s just a block from the campus. Kitchenette is separate from the bedroom. Bathroom is robust. Parking is $55 and only valet. Breakfast is included and it’s good quality and lots of options.

Google
The design of the rooms was odd if you had guests staying on the sofa bed. Access to the bathroom was in the middle of the hotel space with no door separating the sink area from the master bedroom. The layout in the Oakland Marriott was better for privacy. The bathroom sliding doors also did not close all the way

Google
Wonderful visit to the area and this hotel experience was perfect! Valet team, front desk, housekeeping, breakfast team and rooftop bar staff all were wonderful. We upgraded to a corner room on 14th floor with another room close by with other family members and it was perfect. Our view of the Bay area was incredible. Looking forward to visiting again!

Google
Pricey but a good location for what I needed and for the most part nice rooms, except it was pretty gross to open the cabinet and take down plates to use and find they all had crusted food on them. Disgusting. Called the front desk to inform them and they didn't seem to care. No trash can in the bathroom, only garbage in the room under the kitchen sink. Gym is nice, location is good, breakfast edible but nothing special, but for what I paid per night I'd expect someone to care about a cleanliness issue like nasty plates.

Google
The service for check-in is atrocious. We are long-term Marriott members and the staff were incredibly rude and unable to find us our room. We attempted to check-in for hours and got the excuse of being "overbooked" from the staff which is not at all an excuse. This experience is upsetting and horrible. We traveled all night to be met with horrible service and a lack of empathy or attempts to make the situation right. Incredible upsetting, this is going to lead us to loyalty to a different hotel chain. It is such a shame.

Yelp
We have been Marriott Bonvoy members for a very long time. We recently spent 2 nights at Residence Inn by Marriott, Berkeley for our New Years celebration. Pros: Location is on Center Street downtown within walking distance of UC Berkeley, stores, restaurants, and public transit. The hotel is only a few years old and is an all-suite property. Our suite (#623) was a double queen with a sofa bed. The suite consists of a separate living room containing the sofa bed, and a full mini kitchen including an apartment sized refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and 2-burner electric induction stove. There was a table for dining and 4 counter height stools. The bathroom and furnishings were clean and modern. The room and hotel were well appointed. The linen smelled amazingly clean! Cons: There is no parking lot or on-street parking (for more than an hour I believe). Parking for the hotel is valet only at $54 per night, plus tax. The mattresses were so hard it felt like sleeping on 2 box springs. The HVAC in our room did not work properly either day of our stay. The heater didn't work, and the air conditioner fans blew cold air from all vents the entire duration of our stay. The bathroom ceiling fan ran non-stop, had no separate operational control, and was loud. We had to keep the bathroom door closed in order to sleep. Two maintenance staff checked the in-room HVAC controls, and made adjustments to no avail. Outdoor temperatures were in the low 40's during our stay so we were really cold. Front desk staff seemed aloof about our problem. Their response time was extremely slow and sometimes non-existent (not answering the front desk phone, and forgetting to request maintenance come back the next morning as promised). According to Maintenance there were other rooms experiencing HVAC problems. On day 1 there were no portable heaters available for our use but we were given a $25 gift certificate for food/beverage and 1 extra blanket (even though we asked for a couple). On day 2 later in the afternoon we received 2 more blankets and 2 heaters. Perhaps the hotel should contract with an external, on-call HVAC repair service that could be called when Maintenance can't resolve issues. At check out Front Desk Assistant Manager Lilly comped our parking. In my opinion the problems experienced during this stay should have resulted in a future comped stay (since we prepaid for this one). I'm a bit disappointed that did not occur.

Yelp
This hotel is great if you're looking for a place that is exactly like an apartment. Great kitchen, room, bathroom and a TON of space. The corner larger room suite was amazing. We'll equip with all cooking supplies and stuff. However, the whole time I visited- the hotels lounge, rooftop bar and restaurant were all closed due to private events so that is why they get 4 stars. The front desk did not even know it was closed- I even called the weekend before & they stated the website had wrong information and they would be open.... For as much of the price they should have another eating place inside the hotel and another bar- couldn't even enjoy that. I hope to be back to the area and to visit the restaurant and rooftop bar.

Yelp
We usually stay in other parts of the East Bay when visiting Berkeley for concerts and football games, but this time we chose to stay in downtown Berkeley. Being old grads at Cal we had not explored downtown Berkeley for many years and we were elated to find so many places to dine. The hotel was very good and our room was excellent. It was a very busy football weekend so the hotel seemed very full and there were big crowds at the breakfast buffet. The selection of food was good and we decided to bring our meals back to our room on the 11th floor. Service at the front desk was excellent given the number of guests and the valets were very busy moving cars to and from their garage. The valet guy were very friendly and accommodating. The public areas were very large for a Res Inn and they seemed to handle the large crowds quite well. We only ate breakfast at the hotel and had our other meals around the downtown area. We will definitely come back the next time we visit Berkeley.

Christine T.

Yelp
They upgraded us to the Presidential Suite! It was so awesome and comfortable. We had a great view of the Cal campus. The service and location can't be beat and it was definitely an amazing, fun night. Thank you!!

Yelp
I am currently staying at this hotel and have many good things to say about our stay so far! They have excellent service all around, especially during breakfast service with Maria and Anna. Maria and Anna are always there to greet us and help us. I just want to say thank you for your excellent service and attentiveness!

John D.

Yelp
Kelly at the front desk is awesome. She is friendly, helpful, has an amazing personality and great customer service! Yuki at the rooftop restaurant is also very friendly, very efficient in service, good customer-oriented service! Overall, it was a lovely and pleasant stay and highly recommended for anyone seeking a convenient location.

Yelp
I haven't actually had the opportunity to stay overnight in the hotel itself, but I got to visit and experience the hotel as an event venue since my workplace had booked this hotel's space for a holiday party. Given the actual banquet/conference rooms they booked and the patio were on a different floor, I did need to be redirected by hotel staff in order to get to the correct floor. The food was decent, I didn't find the main course dishes to be particularly remarkable in terms of taste, was mostly carb-heavy dishes with some of the options being vegetarian. They did provide various drinks such as a nice selection of teas, and later on we enjoyed some sweets and desserts. They had round tables for us to sit around, and I really liked the outdoor patio space connected to the rooms that we used since it allowed us to go outside and get some fresh air and a view of Berkeley. They did have wifi that I was able to use as a visitor as well.

Noel T.

Yelp
Thank you so much to Khalid and Jair for the awesome service! They were on point with everything from beginning to end! Swift and great vibes!!! I am an Uber driver and I appreciate the fact that they were humble enough to let me use the restroom because I really don't like peeing out in the public. So I commend them for knowing what I needed and now I am feeling refreshed! And ready to take the people that need a ride, A fun ride! I will definitely come back and recommend guests here for sure!!! Thank you so much guys and God bless!!!

Yelp
If I can give negative star, I would. I will never stay at this hotel again. Extremely rude front desk staff. I stayed on the 8th floor and decide to find ice machine. I could not find any ice on my floor so I use the phone by the elevator to call front desk. They answered "Marriott, how can I help you?" I said " do you know where I can find ice machine?" the person hang up. I thought something wrong with the phone, called again. Same, they hang up as soon as I asked "where is ice machine". I was so confused, call back again " please do not hang up on me, where is ice machine?" Hang up again. I try to call house keeping, same, hang up on me as soon as I ask "where is ice machine." I could not believe what I heard. I went back the room, my husband called instead, they then said "Ice machine is on the 1, 4 7 floor." Why can't they told me that instead hang up one me 5-6 times?

Yelp
Great location near BART, amazing hospitality by all staff members. I just flew in from Japan was jet lagged so asked about early checkin. Lady at front desk was welcoming, and exceeded expectations. Only problem was a glitch in their smoke detector system as I got a phone call about needing to inspect my room while I was sleeping. They knocked on door again later but realized it was an error as no beeping alarm had been activated. I was also impressed with the selection at breakfast in morning. Much better quality food than most other similar properties. Would definitely stay again when in Bay Area.

Makaiwa K.

Yelp
I would like to give a shoutout to Jessica & Marco at the front desk. They were so so helpful and kind and patient with me as I was checking in and in the moments I needed extra assistance. The Residence Inn is blessed to have them. Also I want to say how lovely Mario was when I would go to eat breakfast each morning. He was so kind to me, and I was so grateful for his service, and his warm smile as I started my day. Uncle Angel, I believe he helps with maintenance. He was so sweet, and every time he saw us he would say hello. Im so impressed by these individuals that made my time here feel like home, and that I was a part of a greater family.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of staying here while attending an institute in their conference rooms and this place is just beautiful! I heard it was controversial to build here so I acknowledge that most of everything is built on stolen land from the Indigenous communities who founded the land. The service was wonderful both on the hotel and catering. It is off of Shattuck and a block from the east end of campus. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance and the Target and local shops are a short walk as well. The rooms are spacious, modern, and comfortable. The only downside is $50 for overnight parking. They also have a stunning roof top bar with gorgeous views!

Yvonne W.

Yelp
I will reiterate this location is not in line with the hospitality of other bay area Marriott hotels. Our team has wonderful experiences everywhere except Berkeley. A colleague was waiting for me in the lobby so we could go to the rooftop dining for a business meeting. Mgmt sent a guard to ask her to leave. She had visited the restaurant earlier and was assured that waiting in the hotel lobby was permitted. APPARENTLY NOT. She was embarrassed that she was treated like a vagrant. She returned another day and left her business card for the mgr. and also sent an email. She has been rudely ignored. She wont leave a negative review but I will. Our tean meets at another hotel now. We also meet at Marriott on 4th San Francisco. Such a difference. Berkeley mgmt is uppity . Who needs this?,? Btw. I left a similar review months ago and it has been removed. Wow!! Such thin skin

Yelp
Very impressed with this hotel. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed with a welcoming atmosphere and very pleasing to the eye. It was very modern but yet comfortable. I would have loved tp have had the chance to sit in the lobby by the beautiful fireplace, but it was a quick stay due to graduation weekend. Rooms were beautiful and CLEAN with a wonderful view of the bay The service staff was great inside the hotel. The only drawback was the valet service, very slow. But when we voiced our concern the hotel was very understandable. If the opportunity arises we will surely stay here again

Yelp
It was Cal (Berkeley) Homecoming weekend, and my friends and I (about 8 of us) came here around 8-ish pm on a Saturday night, for some after-dinner drinks and to enjoy the view on the rooftop. Go Bears! We ordered drinks at the bar for faster service because the wait staff looked very busy due to UC Berkeley Homecoming. I ordered a Fieldworks IPA, and pricing was reasonable (less than $10), given it was a hotel bar and it was past happy hour. My friends seemed to like their cocktails. The highlight of the night was being helped by Natalie at the host/hostess desk! She was able to get us seated almost right away in some great seats. We were able to get two sofas with coffee tables, located outside on the perimeter of the rooftop, which had a beautiful unobstructed view! This was a pleasant surprise to be seated so quickly with such great seats because it was Cal Homecoming and when our friends were here earlier, the wait was 30-45 minutes. Thank you Natalie for being so friendly and welcoming, and for helping to make our yearly homecoming/reunion a great experience!

Yelp
Pros: + Nice staff + Very spacious rooms + Close to Berkeley campus and art museum + The restaurant, Study Hall is good. + The fitness room is spacious & they have pelotons. + Laundry rooms Cons: - The hardware in our room was loose (the sink faucet moved out of its post and the toilet roll holder kept falling down) - Food couldn't be brought to the door, so we had to pick it upstairs (small thing, but still inconvenient) - The "free" breakfast is easily missed, run of the mill hotel food. So we went once and never woke up for that again. Overall it's a great stay for anyone coming to Berkeley for the university. I'll most likely be back.

Sharon W.

Yelp
I had a reception there. The staff, food and venue were amazing!! The chef was amazing. The view off of the room was great!

Yelp
While traveling overseas, my wallet was stolen along with my credit cards. Since this hotel does NOT accept Google or Apple wallet, the clerk told me that I could not check in. (Clerk just doing what he's been trained to do.) When I showed him my Bonvoy app with the reservation and the first night paid, he said that I needed to take it up directly with Marriott. Not really run by Marriott, per the hotel clerk - whom I understand is just following directions. But Anyway, I understand that this situation was unique, but after two very long flight delays, I was just looking forward to the quality I typically get from Marriott Residence Inn and a good night's rest.

Yelp
This place is made special by the kind, thoughtful, and professional employees throughout the hotel. We were recently traveling from Hawaii to Berkeley for the Bioneers conference and somehow landed at the one hotel that was filled with aloha! Jessica and Marco at the front desk were helpful every time we spoke to them and gave us awesome recommendations too! They were kind, warm, and welcomed us like family. We met Uncle Angel and a very kind head chef in the elevators and it was like we were long time friends! Cannot recommend this place enough to feel at home amongst people who truly actually care about your humanity. And of course the accommodations are wonderful and the location cannot be beat. But again, it's the people who make it a special experience Need to make a special mention for Mario who we saw at breakfast. He was so attentive to the whole breakfast area. This young man is unique in a harsh world. It feels like he was raised by grandmothers, because the immediate safety one feels in his presence. He is going places and residence inn would be wise to recognize these qualities that money cannot buy. I would trust him around my children, elders, and those most precious in my world. Mahalo and Aloha

Yelp
First time here and I'm glad we chose to stay here. The room is spacious and has a nice view of the city. The room is modern and clean, except for a cloth left by housekeeping. What really impressed me was the breakfast. They have a hot bar with scrambled eggs, applewood bacon, sausages, a hot breakfast sandwich and potatoes. There's also a waffle maker and a toaster for bagels, toast and English muffins. Also a coffee/tea area with a nice assortment. It was much nicer than I expected for a free breakfast. The staff were really pleasant and efficient. Regina made you feel welcome with her warm smile and Brooke and Araya kept the dining area clean and orderly. Whoever hired the staff did a great job. The parking is over $50/night which was a little painful but overall we had a nice stay and I'd definitely come again.

Kuulei F.

Yelp
This hotel was outstanding in all the ways. The front desk staff were so welcoming and helpful. Jessica and Marco both gave great recommendations for food and shopping (for myself and the kids) and knew the surrounding area well. The room was spacious and clean. The bed and pillows were just what my sore back needed and I slept well for the nights we were here. We didn't park a car but all the valet guys were nice and welcoming too. And if that wasn't enough, their continental breakfast was so much more then I expected with lots of choices so I could change it up but Mario made each morning so bright, he was helpful and so sweet, showing up to help us before we could move to do it ourselves. Consider giving them raises or higher positions because they MADE our stay, without them our time wouldn't have been as enjoyable. Will definitely consider this hotel when we come back next year.

Gat T.

Yelp
This is the second time I've been staying here. I love this place. Why 4 stars? Because of the loud music in the upper bar. I mean, after a long day you want to relax and enjoy a drink or two. The music is sooooooooo loud. C''mon guys, you can do better. You literally have to yell the bartenders your order. Amazing breakfast, WiFi, and front staff. Let's not forget the housekeeping staff. Everyone is so amazing, but the loud f&$en music!

Raffy T.

Yelp
Soft uncomfortable beds. Quirky Internet connection Unhelpful front desk. During my 5 day stay my room was cleaned only once, that after many appeals.

Betsy O.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful time visiting our kids in Berkeley and staying at the Residence inn there. Every employee at that hotel had a can do attitude of customer service. From the wonderful manager to the incredible maid, Ti, to our amazing Nepalese server at breakfast, they were always a yes to whatever we needed. As a professor who teaches customer service I was blown away. Also, the breakfast was great, delicious and healthy oatmeal, gluten free when requested and full big breakfast for my husband. The beds as usual per Marriott were comfortable and we got extra pillows and blankets when needed. It was located so centrally that my husband could take long morning walks on the beautiful UC Berkeley campus, and we had access to tons of restaurants and stores. Thanks to all who made our stay so wonderful.

Yelp
I was troubled by the lax security as I drove up to my initial hotel (which I foolishly chose at random. =X). After searching for local Berkeley alternatives on my mobile-phone map, I was relieved to see the Marriot brand had recently moved to elevate the area with superior hôtelier services. The building is majestic. I noticed it from miles out and the thrill of realizing the prominent, glistening sky-scraper would be my temporary mansion is an ecstasy I'm still riding. Then, the representation outshined the building! You can tell Marriot leadership has assembled an elite team to capture a battleground sector. Berkeley isn't a market were you can let things slip. Astounding ambition. You just want to set down a stool and watch them dance their magic! If only I could find co-workers like these... It looks like the hotel is going to slowly open up is 16 floors, but the facilities are all brand new and begging to be appreciated. Try to book in the next six months and you'll get the facilities of an international ritz and the exclusivity of an island spa. Be sure to drop by the corner cafe in the alcove behind the glass fireplace. Marriot master-chef Ana and macro-nutritionist Yuki got me started every morning with a complimentary breakfast that would sustain me well past lunch. I'd like distinguished cliental who can both appreciate the luxury of new facilities and the ambition of talented associates while complimenting those conditions with polite and appreciative habitation to book this opportunity and sample this luxury. I'm no King, but I was able to grab a King Suite complete with unlimited popcorn, kitchenette, glass shower, 3/4 living room, and sky-scraper views for only $199. Gesturing upwards to my window-lit suite while participating in the sensual patio conversation of the surrounding Berkeley bar scene was... Priceless! The Residency Inn is off to a great start. I call on all responsible hoteling enthusiasts to reinforce this momentum. P.S. Those looking to celebrate a special occasion should should take care to reserve the corner suites well in advance.

Rachel B.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for the High on Fire concert last Saturday and I must say, what a nice experience. Super clean, neat, fully stocked room with a great view and just a short 5 minute walk to the venue. Fast efficient valet parking and all the staff was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast the next morning was phenomenal as well I would 10/10 stay here again.

Katherine L.

Yelp
For the past one year, we enjoy the Residence Inn at Berkeley since it is so close to UC Berkley. Both the location and the staff member are pretty nice and the hotel is pretty new. But for the past two month, I have such a nightmare trying to get the refund from a room I booked (called graduation package) in May. The policy said if I cancel within 24 hours after booking I could get a refund. We booked the hotel, but later decided to live in SF instead. I cancelled the nights I booked for $1911.28, and booked another few nights with the Marriott at a different location. During the last two month time, both myself and the America express contacted hotel many times, they simply ignored the 24 hours rule, refusing to provide the refund. Today, American express company charged me for the amount, saying they will still making the effort to contact the hotel.... This is the first time I had such a bad experience with Marriott as a whole, I felt like it is just this location's management too profit driving to care the customer service, as I emailed the support and never heard from anyone... it is hard to believe that you have to worry about this type of bully now days. one thing is for sure, the hotel can not get away with things like this!

Precious G.

Yelp
Stayed here for a (almost) week-long trip Nice. Spacious room. Stayed in an ADA room, nice big shower but shower chair could be better placed Parking in downtown Berkeley Fortunately a handicap placard eliminates green curb time restrictions

Quan D.

Yelp
Stayed here a few times for my work assignment. I gotta tell you, this hotel is one of the best Marriott I've stayed at. Not sure if it's because I always get a king suite with a mini kitchenette but I always enjoy staying here. The place is very centrally located in Berkeley and it's near by food galore if you're a foodie. I didn't have much time to explore on food due to my work schedule but yelping around the hotel you'll find all sorts of foods. Check in is always a breeze. What makes the stay even more enjoyable is the valet service. The guys there are very attentive and polite and respectful. Breakfast served daily, complementary of the hotel and it's pretty damn good! This is definitely my go to if I ever come back to Berkeley for an assignment or leisure.

Kahea A.

Yelp
mahalo to Jessica and Marco at the front desk. Their warm smiles and professionalism made my stay awesome. I loved their food suggestions and the time they took to explain. I'm impressed with these individuals and will differently return. aloha

Yelp
Cool buffet.Awesome place and rooms The food was insanely good I would recommend coming here it's on the cal campus

Paul M.

Yelp
Way too many problems for a single visit. Stayed two days. On arrival, great valet service. Lady at check in removed the corporate card from reservation and we had to pay for the room personally. No apologies and couldn't figure it out. Since we were here for another night they said they were going to resolve. The following day the fire alarm went off at 8pm, we stayed outside for an hour and then they turned off the alarm. Throughout the night, the fire alarm went off probably 9 times waking me and the rest of the building up. Because this isn't enough, my TV in the room updated and turned on around 4am. The room upstairs updated and turned on at 5am and started playing super loud. I called it in, an hour later. Still super loud. Honestly, worst stay I've had. So bad, I've considered sleeping in the car. Don't stay here- they don't know what's going on.

Brian C.

Yelp
Central location, super clean, nice rooms tastefully decorated & a good breakfast buffet. Gym is pretty well equipped. Everything seems brand new. The 1 BR suite was perfect for our family of four. Only downside is parking cost of $49 (!)

Victor C.

Yelp
Excellent location right outside of Cal. Weekend rate is high as there are so many college events. The laundry is expensive. Street side is noisy as the city clean the streets do early in the morning.

Linda K.

Yelp
Finding new hotels around Berkeley isn't an easy thing. I mean, I'm all for charm and character, but when that translates to old, dank, low-tech and small bathrooms, I'll pass. We've tried a couple of other places-The Graduate Berkeley and the Berkeley Marina Hilton on previous visits to the area. Once was enough at those places. Enter the Residence Inn Berkeley. The location was literally a block off of the west side of UC Berkeley and right in the heart of downtown Berkeley. Right across the street are a variety of dining options from Middle Eastern to Chinese to a bagel shop to Ben n Jerry's. The BART station is less than a block away and Target is one block away. How super convenient. Now to the hotel itself. Brand spanking new with a beautiful lobby, friendly staff and a full hot breakfast that's complimentary! Due to COVID, the breakfast sandwiches are pre-heated and pre-wrapped but they had a variety of maybe 6 different kinds over a few days--ranging from breakfast burritos to bagel or croissant sandwiches. Also available was oatmeal with a full toppings bar, yogurts, pastries, fruit, and juice, chocolate and regular milk and coffee or tea. My daughter would've loved pancakes or waffles but still, there were many choices of other items! Rooms are all suites, modern and very clean and new, with kitchenettes that are fully stocked with dishes, cookware and a good size fridge, stovetop and microwave. The sofa beds are pretty decent as well and a full set of extra bedding was already in the room. TVs in bedroom and in sitting area. Bathrooms are very spacious and have refillable large pump bottles of body wash, shampoo and conditioner. One thing I would like them to improve is their water pressure--it definitely was on the weaker side and resulted in me needing to shower longer just to wash my hair properly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Parking is pricey at $49 per day, but that's to be expected in the Bay Area and valet was pretty quick and would let us keep our car nearby if we were coming and going. Highly recommend the Residence Inn Berkeley!

Robin L.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed in a corner room with a bay view. The room was lovely, as was the view. I'm told the hotel is fairly new, and it showed. With that said, there are a couple of things that I did not like. One is that the room, even on the 10th floor, was noisy due to the traffic running over manhole covers on the street throughout the day and night. The second is that the parking cost is $54 per night with TAX added on. We didn't have a chance to eat at the restaurant. The location is great. Right near BART, which we did take advantage of, and many restaurants. The breakfast each morning had many choices.

Yelp
This hotel is a short block from the entrance to UC Berkeley, and a quick walk to many restaurants - a great location. It just opened a month ago, so they may be working out some kinks. However, we experienced an aggravating number of issues. NO ELECTRICAL OUTLET in the bathroom. Took multiple requests to get an extension cord. An electronic beep in our room every 60 seconds all night. Big pile of trash next to the door of our room for hours. Trash in the hotel not cleaned up. Someone left a used drink cup on the table next to the elevator. We could have tossed it but we thought we would wait and see how long it would stay there. 20 hours later when we checked out - cup still there! No maid service at our room - maybe this was intentional because of COVID, but I didn't see it posted. Weird layout in our room with a wall in the middle, large bathroom with no shelves for toiletries. We were told there was a dine-in hot breakfast and we were looking forward to that. Until we found out that the breakfast was Jimmy Dean sandwiches in plastic wrap, served from the buffet warmer. Yuck! The second morning we went out to breakfast. Some of the front desk staff seemed very inexperienced, but others were nice and tried to be helpful. The engineering staff that came to our room to resolve issues was very personable and helpful. The ladies who worked the breakfast were also very nice. They can't help the awful food! Everything in the hotel was brand new, which was nice, but you could also see the poor quality of everything in the room, like the kitchen appliances. The floor of our room was a Pergo-like hard material. We used the sofa bed, probably the first time it had been used. After one night, the feet of the bed had dented the floor!

Yelp
This is an excellent place to stay. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. We had a one bedroom suite with two queen beds on the top floor with amazing city views of the Bay Bridge, Salesforce Tower, Emeryville, Oakland, and the Campenilli. The room was modern, clean, spacious, and well thought-out. The location is steps away from Bart and the UC Berkeley Campus and amazing restaurants. Breakfast was delicious and fun for my toddler. Staff was friendly and resourceful. Highly recommend! We will stay here every time we come back to visit the Bay Area.

Yelp
If it wasn't for the $60 parking, this would be a 5 star rating. That's extortion. Well located right in the heart of downtown Berkeley and across from campus. This hotel is very clean, modern, and large. Easy check in and out. Really nice outdoor rooftop deck overlooking The City, the bay, and Berkeley. Breakfast was really good but incredibly crowded. The staff did an amazing job at keeping all the food filled and hot and clearing tables as they became empty. Really impressive staff who worked very hard. If the outrageously despicable parking costs were not part of the stay, it would be flawless. I just can't get the bad taste out of my mouth spending $60 to hand a key to a teenager once. I won't return because of this only reason. And paying over $300 a night, and STILL had to pay that rate...disgusting. Shame on Marriott.

Yelp
If you are making reservations for graduation weekend, it's PRE-PAID and no cancellation, even 9 months out. The wording on the reservation is misleading (says you can cancel up until May but you can't). When I was making my second reservation, I noticed it was non-refundable and called to confirm. The lovely agent on the phone was not able to help out.

Yelp
Having to park in Berkeley is always tough it's nice to have a smooth in and out of my stay with Valet! Gio (the person who was at Valet) helped me out a lot on unloading and getting my stuff in smoothly. Shout out to them and the rest of the Residence inn Berkeley team!

Yelp
So impressed with EVERYTHING! The hotel is beautiful, clean, well appointed. They have everything you could want and more. The location is perfectly centered in town and close to campus. Daily breakfast is actually good. Tasty, great quality offerings and they keep them replenished and fresh. The rooms are clean and have every convenience you could want. Most of all the staff if exceptional!! I wish I would have gotten everyone's name to mention each person we interacted with, but we were a large party(about 12 of us altogether) in multiple rooms across different floors. Each and every one of my family memes raved about the front desk staff, cleaning staff, the food staff at breakfast, the management and most of all our server at the rooftop bar, Yuki! There were a lot of us there celebrating a graduation. She handled our table on her own seamlessly and with a huge smile on her face. By the end of the night we felt like she was a part of the family. I work in the travel industry and stay frequently in many different hotels and locations. The Residence Inn, Berkeley has far exceeded any experience I've had so far.

Yelp
We booked a 1 bedroom suite for Aug 15 to Sept 1. the first week we had some difficulties with the room. We spoke to Assistant Front Office Manager Brittany Wilson regarding our issues with the room. She was very professional, listened to our complaints and resolved our problem within 20 minutes by relocating us to another suite...which made the rest of our stay most enjoyable. The suite(s) were clean & the view of the bay was beautiful. When we needed anything for the room, we wrote a list and gave it to room service or the front desk. We did eat at the Study Hall Rooftop Lounge and the food was delicious. It was a bit cold & windy so we ate inside. The hotel staff were pleasant & always greeting us as well as the parking valet. We loved the fact that the hotel is in walking distance to the University as well as eateries & stores. We will be coming back in October.

Yelp
Pros: beautiful modern rooms, great location, front desk and valet staff are wonderful, and decent pricing for this area. Sophie was fantastic! The free breakfast is also very good for a hotel. Cons: I booked this hotel specifically because of the beautiful rooftop lounge, but it's highly disappointing in ambiance, quality of food, and service. The only good thing about it is the view - but good luck getting a table where you can enjoy it from. Then there's the valet-only parking, very expensive before tipping, and you'll also pay $9/day for internet if you want bandwidth capable of joining a Zoom for work. I booked a pet-friendly room because I brought my (non-shedding) dog, but there were short white hairs all over my clothes, so it seems that another dog was here recently and the linens/furniture may not have been cleaned thoroughly. One last issue; on the second night when I got back to my room housekeeping had clearly been through even though I specifically asked for no service...At least they wear surgical masks (or so I'm told).

Yelp
What a beautiful addition to the area! The manager and front desk staff were lovely upon our arrival. Our room was spacious, clean and had beautiful views. I've only ever stayed at the Claremont but since my entire family was coming, I felt a kitchenette would be nice for us. I'm so happy we made this choice. I definitely would stay here again!

Yelp
My son and I recently visited Berkeley. As we are Marriott Bonvoy members, we stayed here at the Residence Inn Downtown Berkeley. What an experience! Beyond courteous and helpful staff, we enjoyed gorgeous views from our super clean, comfy, well stocked suite. Also, The Study Hall Rooftop Lounge was POPPIN!! Killer cocktails and, no joke, the best Brussel sprouts and burger I've ever had. Can't wait to go back

Yelp
I'm giving a 5 Star review based on two people. Their names were Charlene and Lee and they worked in food service (Breakfast Staff). Before I go into why I singled them out, let me go into the review of the Hotel itself. My job had a team of us come here from all over the country for a 3 day training at UC Berkeley. The rooms are very nice. A more upscale Extended Stay. I was grateful to have "lived" here for 3 days. I also enjoyed the local food spots directly across the street. My only issue was my first day at breakfast. It was a busy Thursday morning. As I was getting my food, I asked a staff member where the plasticware was at, and he was a bit rude when he gave me the answer..."There it is on the side!" I took issue with it, but then I just didn't pay it no mind. Fast Forward to Saturday morning. Breakfast is over at 10am. I go down to get breakfast at 9:45am. When I get there, it appeared staff was already cleaning up. I asked the "rude" worker would they be bringing anymore eggs or turkey sausage out. He told me, all that's left is it, and nothing else is coming. I then spoke to Lee and he told me more items would be coming out. Charlene was also very helpful in getting some more items out. Yes I understand that it was 15min til breakfast was over, but we, the company I work for had like 10 rooms here at $350 a night for three days, that's like $10,050 we spent here on out stay. Thats not even including the $54 a night Valet parking. So with all this money spent, how can you NOT want to give us some simple turkey sausage and scrambled eggs?! Thank You once again CHARLENE (like the Anthony Hamilton song) and Lee. You two are the BEST.

Yelp
Nice facilities and the location is great. However, I was on the 11th floor and the noise from the bar on the 12th floor was horrific. All evening I had to listen to bad jazz guitar and people talking. I was unable to focus on work in the evening and couldn't get any sleep until the ruckus quieted down. If you are looking for a restful stay this is not the place to check into. The rooms definitely need more soundproofing.
