"Bala Cynwyd’s Lark is the opposite of a sports bar. With glowing mirrors, fireplaces, and a balcony showing off a view of the Schuylkill River, the Mediterranean restaurant is the perfect spot to forget that you live in a city where the sun rises and sets with its teams. There are standout dishes like rigatoni with Maryland blue crab in a sweet tomato sauce, a 14 oz roasted strip steak coated in a tangy salsa verde, and one of our favorite branzinos in the city. You’re more likely to catch a surprise proposal on the patio than someone crying over a missed field goal. " - candis mclean
"Trying to set the mood and take in show stopping views? Lark in Bala Cynwyd is the spot. In the colder months we love the candlelit dining room and Mediterranean mains (especially the bucatini puttanesca with mussels). But as soon as light jacket weather hits, it’s all about the patio overlooking the Schuylkill. They have an excellent by-the-glass list, gorgeous cocktails, and fire pits in case it’s chilly. Just keep in mind that you'll have to sit inside to enjoy the full dinner menu." - candis mclean, alison kessler
"You know how after you see an incredible movie, you have to let everyone in your contacts know about it? It’s because truly great things are rare and exciting. And no place has us more excited for a date night than Lark. From the balcony overlooking the Schuylkill to the fireplaces, candlelight, and glowing mirrors, the Mediterranean restaurant from the team behind Laurel feels like the most romantic place on earth. The plates of roasted beet mezzalune with brown butter, citrusy grilled trout with a harissa-pine nut sauce, and perfectly seared steak make us feel especially warm and fuzzy inside. Before you’re seated, sip on a gorgeous cocktail by the patio fire pits, and get ready for a meal you won’t be able to keep to yourself. " - alison kessler, candis mclean
"Lark is Philly's best date night spot. The cozy booths, chandeliers, and candle light make this Bala restaurant perfect for a special evening, but the balcony elevates it to the most romantic place in the city. There’s a great view of the Schuylkill River, and while you can't have a full meal out there, you can still lounge at one of their outdoor fire pits and enjoy a cocktail. The Mediterranean menu changes often, but all of the bigger plates work well for two. Make sure to order things from every section of the menu, including a few plates of pasta and definitely a large entree—the grilled trout and strip steak are favorites. The next time your anniversary rolls around, ditch the lame Hallmark card and just book a table at Lark instead." - Candis Mclean, Alison Kessler
