"The imposing 1920s city post office is now a hotel, and this glamorous restaurant sits within what was the central hall – the listed cashier booths still on display. A Nordic-Japanese approach sees fine Scandinavian produce meet Asian techniques, and there’s an impressive range of sake by the glass." - Michelin Inspector

What Does Food Look Like when Sustainability is the Main Ingredient?

"Sofia Olsson, the chef of vRÅ in Gothenburg. Her sushi and raw food restaurant implements urban farming practices on the rooftops of her establishment, pulling 'city-grown' wasabi leaf for her Swedish-Japanese cuisine." - Marisel Salazar

We found the restaurant via Guide Michelin as a recommendation (not a Michelin star) and what can I say: a previous post office stars as a fantastic location for beautiful food and a typical swedish, customer-oriented and super nice service! We ordered a la carte and were super happy with the style, taste and quality of food. The taste of the local ingredients was outstanding! If you are up for deep fried, the okifries, we ordered twice! The sashimi moriwaze were highest quality and tasteful. The main course, ling with buttermilk was rich in taste and full of flavors. Guide Michelin pointed out the good list of sake: we went for wine by the glass but would go for sake next time.

Great food and atmosphere but a company of 14 was too much for the staff to handle given the slow service time. Very simple orders like a beer or coffee took forever to get. We wanted to have coffee together with our dessert but we got the coffee 10-15 minutes after the dessert. Some of us ordered coffee baileys, we got the coffee and Baileys separately, 5-10 minutes apart.

Absolutely incredible fine dining experience. I hadn't personally heard of this place, so was completely unaware of its reputation as a seafood restaurant. My wife took me here as a surprise so I had no expectations at all. We had the vegan tasting menu and if you told me this had a reputation as a vegan restaurant, I would not have been surprised. These people know their way around a vegetable. We have 7 courses, plus desert, with the alcohol-free drink package. There were definitely some courses that were highlights, but that's just because they were even better than others. None were even close to bad, and I would gladly eat all of them again. A particular highlight was the mushroom soup with tofu and soy, I could eat that every day. The old trope about tasting menus is that there's not enough food, but this definitely doesn't apply here. Specifically the final course before the desert was almost a full-size portion. Having a waiter who was clearly passionate about the food elevated the whole experience to the next level. He was informative and knowledgeable and displayed a deep understanding of the flavour pairings and choices made. He seemed to be particularly enthusiastic about the drink package we chose, telling us the background of some of the ingredients and the reason for the specific blends. I have zero reluctance in recommending this place to others, but this is fine dining and so the prices reflect this. Can't wait to go back.

Truly great dinner experience. Each bite was complimenting the other, each dish was prepared to perfection and made to compose an harmony from starter to dessert. Service was friendly, discreet but attentive. Restaurant atmosphere and decoration are there to valorize the dishes. Higly recommand.

In a beautiful building which use to be the old post office. The interior is very cozy and comfortable and the service was great. The food was presented very nicely and the combination of Nordic and Japanese came together in the ingredients and textures very well. Worth a try for sure! We had the 7 course chef menu

Google
Great place. We had the chef's choice menu and it was an excellent mix between different dishes, wine, sake and beer. Unfortunately I'll only give three stars because of the mixed music from restaurants, hotel and the night club under the restaurant was a big drawdown. It's was an everlasting dunk-dunk-dunk noise who totally killed the otherwise great atmosphere.

Asian fusion inspired restaurant right next to the train station. The inside dining space is beautifully decorated and gives you a high end feel, as does the great service. The food is delicious, as are the drinks, though portions are small. Maybe to be expected at a fancy place, but beware that a three course meal might leave you still hungry.

Really nice & fancy restaurant! They use fresh & delightful Swedish ingredients prepared with Japanese methods. All food is delicious with unique flavours that have a hint of playfulness to them - each bite just makes you want to smile! Vegetarian options available, and the staff make a point of asking if you have amy allergies or food limitations. Both waiters and chefs will gladly adjust your meal to suit you. Good drink selection, excellent Japanese beverages. Service is really good and attentive, available both in English and Swedish (even if the menu seemingly was only in Swedish). Only "problem" is that it is very popular and it is nearly impossible to get a table without booking one in advance - and the service is rather slow. So prepare to take your time if you're planning on eating at vRå! :)

Yelp
This top end restaurant is seriously good. The oysters are on another level, it makes all other oysters I have had look slimy whereas theirs were full and meaty. Apparently they come from a source where the people that make them only get a relatively small amount per year. The sushi was also superb as well as many of the other dishes. The service really is first class where they explain what is in the dishes and bring everything out at the most opportune time. They really do watch the tables and are very attentive. The ice cream was loved by other customers of the restaurant who thought it is fantastic. For myself it could have been amazing, but for my taste it felt a bit too salty, almost a bit like I was being slowly poisoned. Others probably completely disagree with me and they love the level salt, as the contrast with the sweet is what made it special. The stuff underneath it I found superb. This is a seriously good restaurant and a highly recommended upper end experience.

Yelp
Shouldn't take 1.5 hours from being seated to being served mediocre, ridiculously bland and overpriced food. They started strong with the fries and two dumplings and the fell off with service and the main entrees. Disappointed.

Yelp
The food was so expertly and lovingly prepared, it was stunning. It iss clear there was an amazing reverence for the ingredients. I had the grilled fish meal with arctic char, rice and grilled vegetables. So delicious. We looked into the open kitchen to watch things being prepared and it was so relaxed and Zen in that kitchen it was very much unlike how you may know or imagine a commercial kitchen to be. The wine was great. Our service was great. The only thing that made it not a 5 star experience: It was cold in the restaurant and my wooden chair was uncomfortable. Super spendy...but I'm on travel expenses for work.

Yelp
Wow! This is the best sushi I've ever had. The service was very good from the moment I walked in to the restaurant. The staff is very professional and has great knowledge about the food and the producers. Yet they are very relaxed and friendly, just the way I like it. The decor and atmosphere feels very international and like a fusion of west/east. The menu offers lots of dishes that seem delicious and there is a tasting menu available. I was just there for a quick stop to try the sushi so I ordered 9 pieces of sushi and let the chef decide what pieces. Every single piece was a tasting experience from above. The accompanying soy and ginger was also great. The staff told me that they mix the soy with water and rice vinegar in order to make it perfect. The best piece was a nigiri with bonito (which is caught in the sea outside Blekinge). The Bonito litteraly melts in your mouth. I have never tasted any fish that can compare to this. I have a new favourite sushi place - vRÅ.

Yelp
Dinner tasted great, but it was small even by Swedish standards. We had three courses with drink pairing and we left both hungry and sober and much much poorer. They also served us food that was not on the menu they gave us. Apparently they gave us old menus. Very very disappointing dinner. We didn't even get an apology for giving us the wrong menu and were expected to pay for something we didn't order and wouldn't have ordered if we were given the right menus. The drink pairing was a huge rip off. I've had sake pairings before and they usually bring larger glasses than a Normal sake glass. We regretted not ordering a normal bottle to share.
