52 Faubourg St-Denis

"Fans of neo-bistro aesthetics will love this place done out in bare concrete and exposed stone, where diners tuck into cuisine infused with Asian flavours, as well as time-honoured bistro classics such as pâté de campagne (rustic-style pâté) or leeks in vinaigrette. The food is nicely washed down with fine wines or craft beer, and you can round off your meal with coffee selected and roasted by the owner. Please note: no reservations." - Michelin Inspector

Enjoyed an amazing French dinner at 52. Great friendly service, nice relaxed atmosphere and delicious meals!

I'm from Japan. All the clerks were very kind. Thanks to the female clerk, I was able to spend a very comfortable time without feeling the language barrier at all. I had gnocchi and roast chicken for the meal, and it was very delicious. I had a wonderful time when the fatigue of sightseeing was gone in no time. It can be recommended for both locals and tourists. Thank you very much.

Every dish was beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The “ Tartare de bœuf coupé aux couteaux et moules marinières” as well as “ Cochon, purée de courgette et praliné de courge” and Tataki d’onglet de bœuf sauce vin rouge” was particularly memorable, with the perfect balance of textures and tastes. For deserts, “Clafoutis de mirabelle, glace au miel et romarin” Excellent.! What truly made this dining experience exceptional was when the chef Elias took the time to personally visit our table, answer my questions about the ingredients, and share insights into his culinary process. This thoughtful gesture added such a personal touch and elevated the entire experience. Thank you Restaurant 52!

Certain foods were great, but others were just not good. The Spare ribs was definitely worth the price; however, the crispy egg pasta and the mixed cheese platters were bland and too salty, respectively. Although the menu has what is in each dish, the menu is a bit misleading on whether a dish is an appetizer, entree, or a special, since those words aren't written/typed on the menu. The food came out all together as we asked, so that is a plus, but th8⁸e waiters did not pay attention to our table at all, maybe because we are younger than most tables. They took way too long taking the check even after calling them. The place itself is great, but the staff and food can inprove.

Google
Limited menu but the food was fresh seasonal & beautifully cooked. Huge wine list by the bottle, some by the glass options too! Ambience very chilled & relax, will defo be revisiting again.

Google
A gem of a restaurant. Everything we ate was unbelievably good. The braised beef was amazing; the roasted carrots were a rabbit’s dream, and the sauce it came with was delicious. The fish was very fresh; it came in a delicious fish stock along with fresh vegetables roasted with excellent butter. The starters were excellent. The ham was amazing, and it came with a little cube of butter. The melon appetizer with labneh was novel and perfect for a summer evening.

Google
I visited the restaurant when the kitchen was closed and had to order from the cold cut menu. Hence, I can't provide feedback on their food quality. However, the service was exceptional. They really tried to cater to our needs.

Google
Great spot with interesting, fresh dishes with interesting flavors. Really loved our fish entree with candied celery. Lovely, friendly staff. Great ambiance and wine selection as well - will come back!

Yelp
Cannot believe I've never reviewed it as it is one of the places my wife and I enjoy the most in all of Paris. Fresh ingredients superbly prepared in a really pleasant space. Really like the dark green color scheme and the service is always great too. Everything at all of Compagnon's places is delicious but we especially like the vegetarian and seafood dishes at Le 52 -- dishes as simple as roasted vegetables with house made ricotta are amazingly simple and super tasty. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
What a charming place! A simple, open decor, with great atmosphere and music and a helpful staff. We had one of the top meals of our stay in Paris here and at a reasonable price. They don't hide their cuisine behind salt and butter and oil! Everything is light and delicate, full flavored, well seasoned to allow the fresh taste of vegetables we ordered to come through. Great wine selection too!

Yelp
Great service, delicious food, ambiance is casual. Would go back. I recommend the espresso martinis, the burrata, and the fish.

Yelp
Stripped down cement walls with light wooden accents and post modern lighting provided a nice ambiance. The music was great; mainly 70's Soul. A very concise menu but everything was amazing. The wine list was extensive and the waitress was knowledgeable (and spoke English which made things easier). Overall a perfect experience.

Yelp
I couldn't say more about this place the food was excellent the service was great the ambience incredible.

Yelp
Will return. Their wine glasses caught my eyes. It's on a small street - St. Denis - that's filled with restaurants and cafes and bars. This one has both indoor and outdoor seatings. We sit inside - I can't take the smokers. French music. Great food, bread, and great wines. They let you taste the wine first - which is great. The mozzarella is just simply wonderful. The table next to us - threesome order two -:). Also they have teas from China - no I didn't try. The only down side is - they provide too much bread - I almost eat them all -:) of course it's their fault ha ha ha In general I find restaurants, acafes in that matter have less waiting staff and they work very efficiently. They don't come to chat. They serve and don't brother you unless you signal them. Well it's a profession in Europe ... working seamlessly is beautiful to watch.

Yelp
A bunch of us came here for dinner and it's such a great place with great ambiance and staff! Food was absolutely delicious. Appetizers: mushrooms and prosciutto Entrees: seabream, veal, cod Desserts: poached pear, rum baba Honestly, have nothing bad to say about this place. Loved everything About it and the cocktails were delicious.

Yelp
Should have known something was amiss when the last review for this place was over a year ago (Aug 2021). Apparently their menu is seasonal and changes weekly, so it's very likely that recent changes haven't been reflected in the reviews, or that we just happened to come at a particularly terrible week. Went here for dinner on our first night in Paris and cannot overstate how much of a disappointment this was, especially given all the glowing reviews and the number of "best restaurants in Paris" lists this place is on. Without question, this was top 5 worst meal experiences I've ever had in my life. And I don't think it was just us -- we overheard the table of 4 next to us also remarking that their meal was underwhelming. First, the service was incredibly slow, especially for a Tuesday night with the restaurant less than half full. We had the pig's cheek tacos and the mackerel to start. The tacos were flavorless; the mackerel was terrible. Could not cut or chew the steak main course. It was just too tough, too chewy, and lacked any flavor. Maybe we just had bad timing, but we were really disappointed with everything.

Yelp
Went with a good friend so the 2 of us shared 2 entrees, 1 main & we each got a dessert. It was just perfect. Highly recommend the seabass ceviche & the gnocchi! The service staff were so sweet and attentive. I would definitely return for the food & the service.

Yelp
I had a full 4 course dinner at this restaurant. Every dish was really great! The location is very lively. Service was quick and friendly. It was also great that we didn't have to reserve a seat, like at so much other Parisien restaurants. Expect a full five star experience when dining at le 52!

Yelp
Great local place for high end food at a great value. We went for lunch and both our main dishes were delicious. There was clearly a lot of time and thought put into each dish. Lunch * Pork Cheeks (Excellent) * Lentils (Excellent) * Aged Meat (Great)

Yelp
We didn't plan our dining arrangements for Sunday evening, and yes, the restaurants, in large part, do close on Sunday evening. So, we walked a bit, and then walked a bit more, and then came upon a restaurant, 52, which had been listed in Frommers. We had passed quite a few places that were closed, and as it happens, this spot - Le 52 - was fantastic! Worth the stroll. We had burrata, paté, veal, beef and pork, all of which were delicious. The servers were quite attentive and very courteous and friendly. We were lucky that we arrived when we did as the place really, really filled up quickly. The price, for appetizers, entrees, dessert, coffee and wine for two of us was 102 Euros. We thought it was a very reasonable price, and the dining experience was outstanding.

Yelp
One of the best meals in Paris. A Sunday lunch of Mackerel with pea purée. Phenomenal fresh fish and light vegetables. Service is spicy with charming waiters moving the plates with a smile. Sit, eat and enjoy of Paris best.

Yelp
Cool place. Cool people. Extraordinary food! Last meal of an awesome Christmas vacation. The vegetable soup was delicious and cod was amazing. My husband was equally as happy with his meal. We were so satisfied that we passed on dessert. Wine list was very good--we shared a 2013 Pinot noir burgundy. It was delicious. This was our first dining experience in the 10e. We will return on our next trip.

Yelp
Nom nom nom. Honestly everything was good. My sister and I stumbled upon this place after a 5 hour drive and stuck in shit traffic from Brittany. We walked in around 730pm and it was empty but for a few good looking waiters. Sat down and quickly ordered a bottle of rose and had our starters: She had a fried pork dumpling with pickled mushrooms so very good, while I had a cold gazpacho also very good on a freaking 41 degrees which translates to 90 degrees I think. Mains: she had a pork medallion which was amazing, flavorful and really good. I had a fish, with mushrooms and veggies on top and a slice of eggplant on a bed of lobster or shellfish sauce. Dessert: you've got to do this one. Deliciously light Strawberry crumble with a yogurt ice cream to cleanse your palate. Do it. By the time we finished dessert this place was popping literally only an hour later. Come here. You won't regret it.

Yelp
The overall experience here was good, and although I wasn't blown away by the menu, I would definitely try them again as it changes frequently. The servers here were very friendly and welcoming. They did not have an English menu, but were more than happy to translate the options for the day. I believe they had a 3 appetizer, 3 main course, and 3 dessert set up. The food was good, but for some reason I am not able to recall exactly what I had. The appetizer was a chilled melon soup which was different and nice. I believe I had chicken for the main course (which I was happy to see as not all places seemed to have a chicken option (lots of duck in Paris)). They do not take reservations, but we went first thing at about 7:30 and did not have a problem getting a table on the sidewalk. Later on it does seem to really get busy however so take note and go early if you don't want to wait.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I had a fantastic dining experience at Le 52. Their famous tartare was the best I had in Paris. One of the waiters recommended the Paris-Brest for dessert. It is a traditional French pastry with praline cream- the pastry and cream were so light, and not too sweet- we could not have ended our meal on a better note! Even though we do not speak a lick of French, and the entire menu is in French, there was a waitress that translated everything for us, and even gave us recommendations. The language barrier did not hinder the quality of service. It also seemed like many locals dine there. I would too if I lived there. Good eats at reasonable prices. All in all, a great lunch to fuel our shopping adventure that day!

Yelp
Outstanding, truly creative menu of authentic with a blend of contemporary French food. Couldn't be happier with meal and overall experience. Very comfortable ambiance. The staff were great. Most significant recommendation. Will return.

Yelp
52 is such a nice place! Deco is simple and modern. Beautiful. Speaking of beautiful, the staff, they are all good looking;) very professional waiters with an urge to help you. The food was delicious! So much love on the plate. We loved it!

Yelp
This place makes me smile. Wonderful food, great service, and unpretentious environment. I rarely give 5 stars - but this place deserves it. For a restaurant in Paris that dishes out service and food this good, we were surprised how reasonable our bill was at the end of a 3-course meal and a nice bottle of Champagne. You need to try them out before they get too busy and word has it (a Michellin star on it's way).

Yelp
Fantastic--was the food highlight of our trip. The seafood bouillabaisse especially was like nothing I've ever had, and was a dish I'll remember for a long time. For such thoughtful and creative cuisine the price was great too.

Yelp
One of the best meals I had in Paris. I wish I could go back right now. The best part is you don't need reservations. I highly suggest the beef carpaccio if on the menu.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Paris without knowing any Francais and we are still able to get great service at this place. The waitress is super nice and considerate and gave us really good opinions for wine selection. Personally I really like the starter veal tartar, it's one of the best thing I ever had for starter. The main course we got a steak and a filet of fish. The main courses are absolutely dilecious. If they have enough server, it can easily be rated on Michelin restaurant

Yelp
We loved this spot. No wait for a table for 2 at 9pm on New Year's Day was a nice treat but it only got better. Servers were lovely and attentive, and very helpful with the brief (French only) menu. We had a pork cheek main course that was our favorite, but everything was delicious. The menu seems like it must change a lot based on ingredients or the season. Only 7 or 8 items to choose from across starters and mains, but we had 4 of them and loved them all.

Yelp
Went for dinner, asked if I could sit outside, where there were plenty of tables and sat where they offered. I was shortly asked to move to accomadate a bigger party. I said sure , but the table they gestured me too was by someone smoking. I asked if I could sit at yet another empty table and was told no. So if you are single avoid!

Yelp
I really enjoyed eating at this spot. I'm on vacation and staying a hotel near this place. Food is great and staffs are very friendly and attentive. I ate ramen burger with beef and japanese green bean. I thought at first ramen burger would be weird, but it was not. It's like a fusion of oriental and western style. It would have been better if they have draft beer. This is the reason i didn't give 5 stars. Anyway, I really recommend this place.

Zoey F.

Yelp
Loved it! I had some delicious pork filet with veggies, as glass of red wine and an amazing dessert. Simply delicious. Food was craftily prepared and each bite was a tasteful combination of perfectly matched flavors. 40euros full dinner: worthy!

Yelp
This was amazing... Braised beef was to die for... The desserts looked serious and sweet but they were light and crafted to perfection. Truly a magnificent delight. Highly recommended and a wonderful Parisian ambiance.

Katie S.

Yelp
Loved this place!! The food was great and the service was amazing. The wait staff even tolerated my terrible French and made recommendations of what to order. Everything was so delicious - I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

Yelp
Had the best meal we've had in the month we've been in Paris. A delightful space--raw walls, simple tables and chairs--not too big. Most of the Yelp reviews have raved about the food but trashed the service. We found the food exquisite and the service was impeccable. Went on a Friday night at 7. It was about half full, and we got seated right away and the waiter was attentive immediately. It appeared that whatever waitperson was available did the job. A different person brought our food, took our dessert order and brought our check. There was no waiting for anything and everyone was pleasant. I'm not going to go on about the food because I think they change it often but I loved the simplicity of the menu. 3 appetizers, 3 mains, and 3 desserts. I believe that enabled them to really concentrate on each person's plate because every dish was excellent. There was a huge line when we left.

Yelp
We had a fantastic time ! The restaurant looks stunning and the food is just delicious. Though the menu may not be translated we had a friendly chat with the charming waitress who took care to guide us through the menu and the wine list. Such a relief. I personally had a great French cuisine experience starting by the revisited "pot au feu" ending by the incredible "bugnes" for dessert. We'll definitely come back!

Marilyn D.

Yelp
Had a late night dinner here and loved this local's eatery. Food was delicious and presentations and flavor blends amazing!! Easy to order as they provide a menu in English if you need. Our waiter, Clement, was so friendly, & attentive. He guided us towards some of his recommendations which we couldn't have been happier with! We shared a fried soft boiled egg appetizer that was on a bed of greens, caramelized onions, scattering of corn and flavor pleasing tastes...it was delicious!! Our main entrees were a veal dish and a whiting fish... so happy we shared and tried 2 different examples of what these chefs were able to highlight their talents of tasteful artistry!! Food was amazing!!! Of course you should not miss finishing with dessert... our waiter picked for us so I can't tell you what it was...an ice cream .. whipped ricotta cheese fluff, cookie crumbles, almonds, Carmel....yummmm! I will recommend to all my friends who plan to visit Paris soon! Loved the area this is located in as well!

Yelp
Excellent restaurant. The staff were very obliging. The food was divine and the atmosphere perfect. It is the best meal I have had in Europe for many years. I am a vegetarian, and although there was no vegetarian meal on the menu they presented me with a dish that was amazing. Definitely not just a toss together of vegetables. I felt like they had gone out of their way to spoil me. The meals were also very well presented and the waiter's wine recommendations were spot on. I am replete!
