"This one-room wine bar requires a walk down a very long (and at night, scarily dark) passage, but the music, lively crowd, and simple but solid menu of French small plates justify the gauntlet. While Aux Deux Amis down the street may tempt with a similar wine bar concept, it gets way too packed: Au Passage, which also feels a bit more grown-up, easily wins out. "

This unassuming yet remarkable restaurant is a haven for food enthusiasts seeking an authentic taste of French cuisine with a contemporary twist. We enjoyed the innovative small plates and great wine menu. Fun casual atmosphere

A Memorable Meal at Au Passage – Our Favorite in Paris! My boyfriend and I decided to celebrate our 3rd anniversary in Paris, and as a big fan of Anthony Bourdain’s show, I immediately rewatched his Paris episode for inspiration. That’s how I discovered Au Passage. Although the episode is already several years old, I was happy to see that the restaurant is still very popular—and now I understand why! We were staying in Montmartre, but we made the trip to the Marais especially for this dinner, and it was absolutely worth it. I would say this was the best meal we had during our stay in Paris. We loved the shared plates concept, which is perfect for couples who enjoy tasting a variety of dishes. We ordered the oysters, yellowfin sashimi, tuna tartare, sweetbread, and mackerel. Each dish was beautifully presented (yes, I took photos of everything!) and absolutely delicious. The bread was also fantastic, and the wine paired perfectly with our meal. A small note about the service: we arrived about 10 minutes before opening time, and instead of being offered a table or a drink while waiting, we were asked to wait outside. Then, when the restaurant opened, other guests started to walk in, and we had to make our way in as well, even though the waiter knew we were the first to arrive. It also seemed like they were still doing some prep (cutting bread, filling water bottles) right as service was starting. That said, once we ordered, the food arrived fairly quickly—especially the cold dishes, which came out first. There was a small pause before the sweetbread and mackerel arrived, but nothing too long. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and while the staff is friendly, they might benefit from an extra team member to speed things up during busy hours. Some tables near us who arrived later waited about 30 minutes for their first dishes. Overall, though, we were super happy and will definitely return. The food is amazing, the vibe is cozy, and the prices are very fair for the quality. My tip: arrive early and enjoy the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere—and one of the best meals in Paris.

I want to give it higher marks because the dishes were very creative and there was clearly a lot of thought of into their conception, however the execution was lacking and a bit lackluster. When we arrived, we sat down and first noticed that there was no AC. This wasn't an issue at first, but as the restaurant got more crowded, there was a serious issue with heat and air circulation. It was also odd that they had no English menus considering most of the clientele, as far as I could tell, were English speakers. Gave off kind of a pretentious vibe, especially since the menu was 1 small page bound into a small booklet. We ended up ordering the tuna tartar, yellowtail sashimi, fried polenta, octopus, and duck breast. The tuna tartar was OK. A little too much mayonnaise for my taste. The sashimi and polenta dishes were great, but the octopus and duck were very tough. Also the chorizo sauce for the octopus was way too acidic, you couldn't taste the chorizo at all. For the duck, there was a cherry sauce, which was the best part of the dish, but the duck itself kind of felt only lukewarm. We then had to wait maybe 30 min before they brought our check, even though we asked twice. Overall, overpriced for what is was.

Google
The perfect restaurant for a night of technically immaculate and creative dining in a space that feels familiar and welcoming. Every dish was adventurous and comforting at the same time. We went here on vacation and this was our favorite dinner. It felt local, but the staff was very kind and helpful. This is a must-go!

We had a lovely dinner there. The flavours were thoughtfully curated. It is always nice to support local small shop.

For 135 euros we got a half bottle of wine, 4 starters, 1 “main”, 1 cheese, and 2 desserts split amongst three people. Very good but some portions were on the small side. In a an old house of sorts.

Great food, amazing service and atmosphere! The sashimi with mango sauce was the best dish we had the entire trip, wish I got the recipe!

Yelp
My Fiancé and I had a long weekend get away in Paris and this was probably our favorite meal of the whole trip. Every bite was full of flavor and texture. And we love a restaurant that clearly changes their menu to reflect fresh ingredients and the season.

Yelp
This was incredible. The parmesan chou, scallop blinis, celery, onion tart, mushroom confit, pumpkin, and duck were all basically perfect, to the point where I don't even know how to pick my favorites. The cheeses at the end were also amazing, including the best blue I've had in a long time.

Yelp
Outstanding meal and great service. We shared many different and amazing dishes. Unique, flavorful, and surprising - in the best way.Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place was a hit or miss. We ordered few items off the menu - some that were good, and some -- well really hit the mark. We first tried the oysters served with passion fruit, mandarins - and oh man.. it did not taste good. The passion fruit and mandarin were just heavy handed and overwhelming sweet that it really destroyed the taste of the oyster. I would stick to lime/lemon, maybe even a touch mango, and champagne sauce. OR i would serve the fruits on the side as a sauce one can choose to put a certain amount in rather than soaking the oyster within. We also had the beef tartare which tasted more warm, and not fresh. I had tartare elsewhere, but amouthful of this made me feel sick. I could not eat more after a spoonful. We also had oyster mushrooms - which tasted ok - more on the salty side. We had a fig/radish salad served with some slices of fish which probably was the best dish of the night. Overall, i think the food menu still needs some work - will probably not end up coming back here. Service was quick and place was packed but not overcrowded.

Yelp
Ambiance is tightly packed artsy folks and servers. Service is both brusque and friendly at the same time. Everyone is in a rush so order fast without asking nosy probing questions. The food is exceptional. Each composition was popping with flavors. I actually didn't want to love this place because of the slightly grungy vibe of the heavily tattooed waitstaff and tightly packed space. However, I found myself happily surprised by every dish and wanting to coax the secret ingredients out of the waitress so I can try to recreate them at home. I almost don't want to admit it, but I think this was the best meal I had during a week vacation in Paris despite dining at Michelin starred establishments.

Yelp
This was by far the worst experience of dining that I've ever had. I live in NYC and eat out often. I never write reviews. We had an 845 dinner and arrived at 840. We were told that we were wayyyyy too early even though we confirmed our 845 dinner earlier in the day. We then were told to wait wherever but there was no space. We asked for wine while we waited and they did not offer to give us wine for free or anything. We waited 45 minutes before 5 of us were sat at a 4-top and when I asked if we could push another table over or move to a place with more space, we were advised that those tables were reserved for other people (who were not there). We then sat for 15 minutes without any water or any drinks or any service or anything to accommodate our wait. When we got up to leave, saying this is unacceptable they just responded "goodbye". I would have loved to try this restaurant because it's listed everywhere but I don't enjoy terrible customer service. This restaurant defined terrible customer service and ruined my last night in Paris. I entered dinner loving Paris and left with excitement to head back to the land of customer service. If you value your time and being treated kindly, DO NOT EAT HERE.

Yelp
At the recommendation of our barista at Honor, the Mr & I were eager to try Au Passage & based on the protests, the normally booked restaurant had a table available - lucky us! There were 3 vegetarian dishes available that night (everything is prepared tapas style and we were recommended to choose 5 plates) and our server asked the chefs to prepare something special for us - ending with a cheese course, we had our 5 selections and were ready to go Spices and vegetables were fantastic combinations and expertly prepared. We enjoyed artichoke, celery root, beets and cabbage All paired with a wine recommended by our server that we never would have chosen for ourselves, I think she said it was a Gael or Galic or something like that but whatever the case, trust your server & you'll be well taken care of!

Yelp
My daughter made the reservations for Au passage and honestly I had no expectations going in. Our reservation was at 8:00 pm and we were immediately sat at a large table communal style. Our server explained in detail the menu in English. The food is served as they prepare it and is meant to be shared. I knew this restaurant experience was going to be a memorable one as soon as we tried our first dish, the Parmesan croquet with the chicken skin bits. Every bite of any dish explodes in your mouth with flavors you have not experienced before or never thought would go together. The mushroom dish was my favorite, the scallop blinis was my daughters and the cheese croquet was my wife's favorite. All of the personnel were hustling and bustling and looked like they were understaffed but service was on time with no issues. Restroom was standard and clean. There was an open bar but we only had wine. Overall great experience. After we left, I read that at one point this was a restaurant that Bourdain had recommended some time ago. I can say that the quality and originality of this place is still there and well worth of our time.

Yelp
Anthony Bourdain, if you've seen the Paris episode "The Layover" then you probably know of this small 40 seat or so restaurant in the 11th eme, Au Passage. I should learn by now that if Bourdain wrote about a restaurant, I might not enjoy it as much as he did. Not that a spot wasn't fantastic at the time, but most things do change with time. This place hot back in 2011 and has changed chefs a couple times, and the fresh creativity shows in the cooking and presentation. The small menu changes often and while I wasn't wild about items offered on my visit, I am looking forward to coming back and trying future offerings. Earlier in the day I had checked online for a reservation and all times were open, checked again around 5p and only 10p was available. We called the restaurant and were offered a tall table which was perfect. The place is small and seemed filled with mostly locals, which is always a good sign. English speaking friendly servers did a great job of explaining the menu. Out of the 6 tapas we had the standouts were the Tempura Fried Butternut Squash, and the Sweetbreads were perfectly prepared.
google avatar

Gabrielle L.

Yelp
I was really excited to go to this restaurant because it was on Anthony Bourdain's the Layover and also my friend recommended it. First of all it was not close to where we were staying or any of the attractions we wanted to see. We made reservations for 9:30 pm and they sat us as at a long table between one other couple and a group of three. Maybe because it was considered late they ran out of certain items on the menu. I really wanted the terrine and the lamb but they ran out of those. So we ordered a glass of wine and two plates to share and figured we would go eat somewhere else afterwards. We ordered the cucumber, melon, basil plate and the herb tarte with corn. It took one hour to get a simple cucumber, melon and basil dish! It was really good and fresh but that's a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a simple plate that I could have made at home! And also 30 min in they told us that they ran out of the tarte that we ordered and that we should order something else asap as all plates take a long time to make. ugh bad times. Also by the time we left there it was 11pm and a lot of restaurants were closed and we were so hungry! I'm sure the food is good but we were unlucky and had a bad experience there. So for this reason I gave it three stars.

Yelp
I'm normally really wary of tapas/small plates places (blame DC and their overzealousness to jump on the trend) but Au Passage was very close to where we were staying and I saw some good reviews for the spot. (How many Bourdain mentions are there here on Yelp alone...) We walked in after eating some crepes (crepes are not filling enough unless you eat maybe too many of them...) to round out our dinner and also try to get some vegetables after a carb-heavy day. The menu changes really frequently, so I can't remember exactly what we ordered but: + Salad with escargots: I was craving hot, garlicky, buttery escargots but this cold salad was really tasty and refreshing, despite not being drenched in hot garlic butter. + Pigeon dish: OKAY I HAVE TO TAKE ISSUE HERE. I ordered this dish in its original iteration as DUCK, craving duck this day. The server comes back and tells me they are out of duck breast, will I accept pigeon instead? I've never tried pigeon, so I say sure, and it comes out looking a bit gruesome (leaving the foot seemed unnecessary...) but it still tasted fine. AND THEN. About 10 minutes later, I see them bring out the duck breast to another party that arrived after us and ordered after us, and it is indeed the dish I ordered in its original, intended form. I got a little bit peeved about this. Why wouldn't they serve us the duck? The pigeon tasted fine but it's very different from duck and duck was why I ordered that dish. :( In any case, this place seemed a little too cool for us (we are not very cool) but people were having a great time eating here very late at night. Definitely worth checking out because they are doing super cool things with their small plates as far as innovating with ingredients, and that alone is really worth tasting. Just please don't hide duck from me again thank you :D

Yelp
Where to begin with this gem! If your a foodie and your in Paris let me help you make a decision where to dine.... Au Passage Tip - make reservations (they do offer walk-ins but be prepared to wait) This super chill place showcases one thing and that is the food! The restaurant is small, quaint and warm and the the menu change often for whatever is locally seasonal. We tired a pork mortadella, carrots, house mackerel, beef tongue, SALMON and a fig pie! Everything was good but that salmon.... ! It's a great place check to check out!
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Surprisingly mediocre. It's almost as if when Anthony Bourdain featured this spot on his show, all the idiots lined up. What was once clearly a locals hangout has become tourist central. It's horrid. This place is really not that good. Which is a shame, because this was intended to be the highlight of our trip. The whole setup felt phony. From the horrible and unthoughtful dishes served to the lack of thought given to wine pairings. Shrimp served in ketchup? Come on. It's incredibly rare for us to leave a bad review. In order for that to happen you have to miss almost every mark. That's unfortunately what we experienced. Avoid.

Yelp
Once again, we took Anthony Bourdain's restaurant recommendations in Paris and the dining experience turned out to be rather underwhelming. Service: Instead of helping us with the menu, the staff spent much time standing around and chitchatting with one another Ambiance: casual, dim Food: While the dishes were very innovative beautifully plated, they were either too tart or too salty. We might still visit the restaurant again though, considering we didn't get to sample a lot of dishes this time.

Yelp
For my first visit I would have given Au Passage 5 stars. For the second, only about 2. The first visit was such a great experience- inventive small courses, delicious flavours, only one course that wasn't really anything special, but all of the others were. My favourite course was the lobster arancini with lobster mayonnaise - seriously delicious. The second visit was just underwhelming. None of the dishes stood out as amazing, and things were generally a bit bland. We had a weird root vegetable thing, and some fried fish in guinness batter, and a scallop that we really had to force to come out of the shell. Based on this last experience I don't think I would go back, but maybe it depends on the night as they change the menu every day.

Yelp
I certainly couldn't resist all the buzz and stopped in here myself to see if it lived up to the hype. It's definitely fun, quirky casual. And, that goes beyond just the decor - the staff were laid-back and friendly as well. I had called ahead to see if I could still manage to get lunch if I arrived at 2pm. And, in fact, I apologetically, arrived at 2:20 pm. Rather than being fussy or sniffy about it, the waiter was very cool and sat me down with my girlfriend who was already waiting and explained the menu. As opposed to the evenings (which I think are just tapas) they have an entree, plat, dessert menu at lunch. 9.50 for just the plat, and 13.50 for two. We took the plat, dessert and set in on a carafe of rose. She had the fish & I had the bavette. Those who like their meat well-done, beware. I didn't even think about the fact that I wasn't asked how I liked my meat, and this was very rare. More rare than I usually take it - but, damn, was it good. and served with lovely, fresh, original veggies. This turned into a long, lingering, boozy lunch. And a few hours later, after devouring the mains, and gossiping over her dessert and my cheese plate (with a few more glasses of wine to go along with those) we cashed out with a bill of around 50 Euros. This was by far one of the best quality/price meals I've had in Paris for a very long time. I will definitely go back to check out the tapas selection in the evening.

Yelp
I literally wanna cry. Back in the states, with no au passage in sight. -_- Hubs and I stayed in an apartment above this restaurant and I had this place bookmarked way before our trip. Got there and they have crazy hours so they're only open from like 7pm to 130-2am. Every night, every single night we tried to go (6 days), line out the door. It was always PACKED! Always! The one night we actually got in, it was one of those nights where we said, "line out the door AGAIN, let's go grab a drink and come back for food." Came back at 12am, excited as hell, "woohoo- No line!" only to fail miserably. Miserably. They were done with dinner. I wanted to scream! Waitress said they still had a few desserts left so we ordered the only two we could. Tip: if you get in, order everything, don't hesitate because once they sell out - you're out of luck. And we got the last of one of the desserts to the disappointment of many other customers. One word - AMAZING. This review can only be for the desserts since we couldn't eat anything else but they were incredible. The flavors, the composure, I could go on and on. It was heaven in my mouth! I've tried to recreate the homemade maraschino cherry ice cream with fresh peach and yummy crumble and was so sad. I'm a great cook and it was not even close. The chefs are artists there!!! My monet of food. Crap, I know I'm rambling right now but it's just because this place was utterly heaven and I wish others could try the things we couldn't. Cannot wait to go back and have an entire meal there. Oh and the chefs, bartenders, waitress- all awesome and inviting. Ugh. I'll continue trolling ig at their food until I can be reunited again.

Yelp
You know how the hidden gem restaurants are usually the ones in the sketchy areas that looks pretty run down on the outside and one you wouldn't think twice of going in if you knew nothing about it? Well, this is pretty much that. This restaurant is hidden in a little back street inside rue saint Sebastian. We circled the area 3 times struggling to find this road because it's so hidden and found in an alleyway. The outside isn't anything fancy but this place is pretty legit. Their menu changes pretty much daily so you can't know what to expect. Being a wine & tapas bar, we pretty much tried 1/3 of the stuff on their menu. The waitress was nice enough to sit down with us to explain each item on the menu with us in English and when it came to choosing our wine, they had a sommelier in house to make pairing recommendations based on what we plan to order - really cool being that we know nothing about wine! Food was awesome and you can't really complain about the pricing. Staff is friendly and it gets really busy later at night. We made reservations pretty much when it opens (kitchen opens at 8pm) so were the first to arrive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to eat in Paris that isn't a tourist trap. Good value and great food!

Yelp
The staff was immediately welcoming, although we did not have a reservation and had to be seated at the bar. It turned out to be a bit of an advantage, because they were right there and patient with our many questions. Their menu is diverse (and always changing with what's fresh and seasonal), so we frustratingly went through a bit of it. The wine menu is also expansive - and bonus! They have some interesting scotch whiskies! We got the cheese plate, coques de escabeche, foie de veau, and fraise fraiche. Our server kindly explained all of the interesting cheeses, and let us sample a few wines before making our decision. The coques and foie were unlike anything I've ever tasted before, in the best way. It's quite far down the passageway, so don't worry and keep going. Make sure you call ahead to make a reservation. I'd like to come back for the lunch special, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area!

Yelp
I love their tomato carpaccio (tiny hints of dill and lemon grass), melon gazpacho (golden summertime fun), shiitake in bouillon (dark brown color but bright light flavor), lobster in a cloud of butter foam, and chicken breast morsels on a bed of transcendent eggplant-lemon-cilantro mash. The folks who work are adorable, and although the place gets packed, they never rush you. Thank you, Au Passage!

Yelp
Great little tapas place, which i had seen mentioned in Bon Appetit mag. It's almost divey, looking like it has been "decorated" from yard sale finds, but the food is fantastic. So off the beaten path, it's filled with locals only. Our English speaking server was very sweet and went out of his way to help me decipher the menu. Just read somewhere that the chef recently changed.

Yelp
My coworkers and I had an amazing FEAST here. No frills, just quality food. The wine selections are pretty diverse, so choose your bottle(s) wisely! If you have a big appetite or a solid group of gourmands, get the Côte de boeuf - it is meat perfection! #thankmelater

Yelp
First place I had dinner at in Paris - sooo good! They have a lot of great wines and beer. The food was great - I got 5 different small plates and split them with a friend. We didn't have a reservation but got a table quickly (arrived around 8 though) and then the place filled up. The staff was very friendly and explained the menu in English. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Ivan M.

Yelp
What an amazing little place. When we first got there, we didn't think too much of it because it didn't look too impressive. But then the kitchen opened and there was not a single place left to sit. The food was amazing too. They didn't have a menu in English, but the waiter translated everything into English, and we were able to to order few amazing dishes. That's what you may want to do - just order a few to share between everyone.
google avatar

Monty T.

Yelp
Came here thinking it was going to be a little French bistro. French yes....but half the tables are all from the U.S. Order a bottle of wine vs by glass. Tapas style dishes which are all very good. We ordered the calamari (4 stars), salmon, mackerel, and duck. Dishes seem small when they came out but we are stuffed. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Kay R.

Yelp
The star I'm able to give it is for the ambience only. Very cool location and decoration with a very nice and helpful staff. Also very good drink list. However, I go to restaurants for the food, not the decor, and the food did not deliver. For courses, we ordered (1) haricot verts with tuna mousse, (2) eggplant with goat cheese & peach, (3) and marlin and (4) squash with goat cheese and hazelnuts. Each dish was entirely uninspired, bland, and much too small. Queue the Annie Hall joke "The food was terrible.. and such small portions" I'm willing to believe that the menu changes constantly and we just hit it on a bad night, but I have trouble believing a chef with any integrity would ever let those terrible dishes out of a kitchen, much less charge patrons for them. I wish we could get our €70 back. Paris is too wonderful to waste a meal at a restaurant like this. If you're looking for tapas, I recommend L'avant Comptoir or Le Restaurant
google avatar

Jacqui M.

Yelp
This was our first "real" meal (sit down, etc) on our trip to paris. Very close to our apartment in the Marais, the space was very cool, rustic and inviting. The menu, written on chalk on the board behind us, very interesting and eclectic and all of the wait staff more than eager to explain it to us, in english. Our reservation was at 7:15, and the place was buzzing by 8. I thought the meal was a solid 8/10 (my boyfriend gave it a 6.5/10) but it wasn't until later in the evening where this place gets 1 star. You guess it: Food poisoning. The worst BOTH of us have EVER had. Our first night in Paris and we're both worried we have to go to the Hospital- that bad. Since it's small plates/Tapas we both ate everything, so its not like this was just a coincidence or could have been something else. I'll spare you the gory details, but needless to say we were in bed for 24 hours after that. in Paris. Cool. So if I could give it 0 stars I would, only because not only did it make us both violently ill, but we missed our reservation at Piroutte the next night.

Yelp
Ambiance is quite Brooklyn-esque, meant in the best possible sense (not the irony-epidemic sense). The temperature in there was Hellish. They either don't have an air conditioning unit or prefer to make their restaurant feel like a Viet Cong POW camp. Well, a POW camp in which delicious food is served to young trendsetter-types and banboo shoots are definitely not stuffed in your rectum.

Yelp
What can I say about this amazing place, it was perfection. We had a couple of plates to share with the table and every single item that was bought out to us was perfect. The taste was unforgettable, the presentation stunning and the service to die for. I would recommend this place to anybody visiting Paris.

Yelp
i checked out Au Passage recently after reading a glowing review by the gourmet galloping Meg Z, who, unsurprisingly, was seated at a central table at this new hotspot when we walked in.. We settled into a corner spot with a beat-up leather seat and a lop-sided table and unbuttoned our shirts since it was boiling and there was no air. Despite what your thinking, these observations are not complaints and the hands-off approach to the decor details is part of this place's nonchalant charm. In fact, I kind of felt like I was in some 60s Nouvelle Vague bohemian bar with bright lighting, faded fixtures and room full of floppy-headed locales all enjoying the great grub and laid back vibe. The attention to detail here is where it should be, however: in the plates. The dozen or so small plates on the chalk baord menu run the gamut from homemade rillettes and burrata mozzarella to cold cucumber and beef salad and seared tuna and mussels over sliced potatoes. The small servings are priced between 4-9E and are meant to be passed around the table. We sampled four savory and two sweet plates and loved every bite, especially the gooey burrata, tender tuna and the fabulous prune granita dessert. The Saint Chinian wine we chose was perfect and totally affordable as well. Will definitely be going back once this place reopens after a short summer hiatus!

Yelp
I think it's funny to read other reviews refer to the alley as sketchy. Come visit me in Los Angeles LOL! It's off the beaten path, possibly on the outskirts of the 11th but it's still a wonderful area. The restaurant isn't fancy, it looks like a swiss tavern but the food and the people are wonderful. The menu changes constantly, it's all small plates so bring friends so you can try everything. Or just be a pig like me and over-order :) It was this restaurant where I first noticed the difference between French dining and American dining. First of all, reservations are hard to get. The tables don't turn over as quickly as they do here in the US. The whole experience is more relaxed, there's no pressure to eat quick and get out. Good food takes time. And the extra time between courses is spent chatting, laughing, ordering more wine. Dining in Paris is on par with going to a museum, food is art. And just like art you may get something that isn't necessarily your taste but you're better for having had the opportunity to appreciate it.

Yelp
Gush!!! Swoon!!! Favorite meal in Paris. Don't miss this off the beaten path TREASURE. Location is perfectly safe even after 11 PM. First impression - hot staff - especially in the kitchen. Food was wonderful - Celery Root Soup, perfectly cooked rabbit, subtle fish dishes...table near us also ordered an entire piece of lamb (clavicle?) to share at the table family style. I was envious of that lamb and so wanted a taste. Maybe next time... Don't skip dessert nor wine. Enjoy it ALL you are in Paris!!!!

Yelp
I don't get the hype. Nothing spectacular, though there are bright spots, too. The online reservation system is frustrating. Make sure you wait for your official confirmation via email before showing up. These sometimes don't come until several hours after you try to schedule a reservation. We finally figured it out after showing up once and getting turned away, and headed there on a week night. The people working there are sweet and very helpful. The menu is written on a blackboard on the wall entirely in French, and while I do have a conversational-level knowledge of the language, they were kindly willing to translate portions of the menu I didn't know, as well as make excellent wine recommendations. The menu was a bit... boring for my taste. We had radishes with dip-- the dips were delicious but we only got about 5 tiny radishes to dip for 8 euros. The price didn't seem to match the portion. We also had the Osso Bucco of beef that was delicious, but it was 30 euros and literally came with just the meat. It was really incredible, but some other veggies or sides with it would have put it over the top. I can't quite remember the other small plate we had, so that tells me it wasn't so impressive. Perhaps we went on an off night regarding the menu, and I'd be willing to try it again. The people working there are lovely, and the locals seem to flock to it. Why not?

Yelp
My husband and I were lucky to even get a table at this super trendy restaurant. We had just arrived in Paris for the tail end of our trip and just googled somewhere to eat near our hotel. We saw they open at 7pm and my husband being the overly punctual person he is we arrived at 6:45 and waited for them to wave us in. They initially offered us a seat at the bar where they sat the other walk ins. But apparently even those seats get booked! So make a reservation! After we ordered our bottle of wine we were offered a actual table since someone else cancelled and we were the first to arrive, Score! Since their menu changes so much, I'm just going to say the food is amazing! It's all tapas style and although that means small plates the portions weren't small. We shared 5 plates including the dessert and two bottles of wine. The staff is super fun too. The only thing that I noticed was that almost all of their customers were tourists. My husband is French and he always said to watch out for the touristy places but he agreed this place was delicious and a neighborhood gem!

Yelp
Friendly albeit maniacal servers scurrying through the residual nooks in between the densely packed chairs in this wonder of a bistro. Only after I went over the menu, with my recently Paris initiated sister, chalked on the blackboard, did I understand that this place is a serious food place, hued in innovation, experimentation and gravity. The overarching theme of course is small sharable places (French tapas, if you can call it that) of meats, fish, cooked or not, vegetables, cheese, desserts. The shabby look of the place, accentuated by the worn out chairs, tables, the untouched flooring and cool period lighting provides it with much ground. With an extreme focus on the quality of ingredients, and the chef dishing out their culinary innovations, creating riots of flavour one after the other, this one is a must for any serious foodie. Great charcuterie, tender burrata, a taste of forgotten vegetables (can't remember the name of this one), there's too much going on at Au Passage!! You get to brush shoulders with the bobos of the district at a reasonable price with a choice of the most delectable wines. Au Passage is among the new 'not to be missed' food destinations of Paris.

Yelp
Location is interesting, interior cozy, food taste and price for plates does not match up to the fantastic other places in the area (i.e. Aux Duex Amis).. quite underwhelming and I would suggest not going out of your way to try this place. The plates are very small (even for tapas standards) and the octopus in the octopus salad tasted not fresh (fishy) and they were very minimal in the amount that they served us. I have heard about this place before and was looking forward to the visit, but was quite disappointed. Also, the waiter was very pleasant, but we had to remind him to bring our wine out and waited for a while (in France the service may be slow, but wine usually comes out pretty quickly).

Yelp
Fabulous locals spot. Tapas menu, with delicious combinations of flavors. Staff is casual and American-friendly. They were kind enough to translate the whole menu to us, literally dish by dish. Had a lamb shoulder special that was to die for! If you want an authentic Paris culinary experience, look no further.

Yelp
What more can be said, I had the best meal in Paris there. Each plate was better than the next, and the staff was amazing. We stopped by around 7 and were able to secure a table for about 45 minutes later. Every dish we had was better than the last, and came in at under 80€ with drinks. Fantastic!

Yelp
Server was awesome (wish I remembered her name, she spoke fluent French and was British. Short hair.). Food was delicious and it was a fun hidden gem. Make reservations before you go!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining at Au Passage for lunch last week at a friend's suggestion. I was very pleasantly surprised ! The restaurant is located on a small street (Passage St Sébastien) in the 11th and not one that you would stumble across by accident so make the effort to visit it. It was not very busy when we arrived but filled up in no time before we left. The lunch menu is limited to 1 appetizer and a choice between 2 main courses followed by either cheese or dessert. We started off with a wonderful trout that was done in a gravlax style followed by delectable fish with fresh vegetables and a touch of mint (nice addition). We finished with the perfect piece of cheese. The service was generally very prompt and pleasant. The restaurant had the charm of an old bar or diner with a combination of regular tables and chairs mixed with lower tables, sofas and comfy arm chairs. In the background, Elvis was playing which brought a smile to my face :) The evening has a larger choice and it is a tapas style menu (please note that there is not much if you are vegetarian) and I am looking forward to trying their evening fare. The price is extremely affordable and worth every Euro !! If it is anything like the delicious food served at night, it will definitely be my reason to visit the 11th more often !

Yelp
My husband and I, joined with our good friend, found this place based on good reviews and recommendations. We were not disappointed with this choice! I was able to get reservations by e-mailing them through their Facebook page. This place is a cute little wine bar/eatery in the Oberkampf/Marais Nord area that is filled with lively eclectic decor and tiny tables. The decor was minimal and definitely had the shabby look down, but thankfully the decor did not portend the masterpieces that were coming out of the kitchen that night. The service was a little slow as the restaurant was hopping, but they were helpful in explaining the menu (written on a giant chalkboard in French) and making wine recommendations based on the dishes we chose. The timing of the dishes was a bit off as well--mostly because my friend ordered a roasted chicken but didn't get it until after most of our small plates were cleared (and she was only going to be eating the chicken that night). So she didn't get her dish until the end. I think they were just a bit confused as to why she was going to eat a half roasted chicken by herself as her only dish...but oh well. Anyway, we were able to try lovely in-season vegetable dishes, gamey meats, roasted chicken, succulent fishes and tasty desserts. My favorites were the asparagus, egg and fromage blanc dish as well as the cod salad. We also really enjoyed the creatively named take on baked Alaska- Coconut "Bomb" Alaska. And was it a bomb...in my mouth! It was a toasty meringue outer shell that when cut into spilled out delicious creamy goodness that made my heart melt. It was perfectly paired with aged rhums (they had a large list of delicious digestifs). One of the other dishes we got that night was "Chevreau." The only explanation they could give us was that it was a type of forest animal. My husband thought that it could possibly be horse (Cheval), however we decided to go for it anyway. When we were eating it, it was really hard to tell what it was. All we knew was that it was delicious and gamey served along fresh shelled peas. (Later, back at our apartment we looked up Chevreau and it translated to "kid" as in baby goat...so we were not eating horse. Phew!!) We definitely left that place with all smiles and full bellies. I highly recommend this neighborhood spot for a local Parisian food experience where the new generation of chefs are cranking out exciting dishes. However, I do feel like they could do just a bit more with their decor (their tables were a bit run down and shabby and not a chic way)--their food and clientele deserve it!

Yelp
A lovely quaint French tapas place! The menu is written on a large chalkboard wall in the middle of the one room restaurant. There is a small bar with an extensive wine list. The food was wonderful and the staff was very on top of things (and they spoke English)!

Yelp
Mick B comment regarding the heat right on. While I have never spent time in Vietnam Cong POW camp I imagine the temps may be similar (LOL). We arrived at 10pm and it is beginning to cool down to very comfortable temperature. The atmosphere and vibe is total hipster. All ages dining and drinking. It is as loud and lively as a London Pub. The food was excellent. Scallop with crazy amazing citrus broth was the best. Brussel sprouts were perfect and carrots inspired. We arrived to late to order pork knuckle and crab salad. The couple next to us said it was amazing. Oh, well. There's always next time.

Yelp
Despite the fact that its hidden off this place gets packed! They take reservations however when we called they told us to come in and that there might be some wait. So we sat waiting at the bar area. My review is based on the bar only: Bartender was great and INCREDIBLY patient. After we ordered our drinks we watched on while some guy with his clunky Paris tour guide book laid out and was asking her to go through and translate EVERY single item listed on the menu to English and if it was "any good". I can tell he was really testing her patience but she maintained her composure. This guy was everything I did not want to be as a tourist in Paris. I couldn't stand this guy (he was too loud, too!) so we paid the bar tab and left. He sat right next to me so there was no way to ignore the guy. Too bad because their menu looked fantastic. I am bookmarking and will definitely come back. But if I see anyone with a clunky Paris tour book laid out on the bar counter I am turning around.

Yelp
One of my best gastro experiences ever. Honest and good french contemporary food. Very good wine menu as well. I spent a week in Paris and went there twice.

Yelp
Clean food. Simple preparation. It is not for everyone especially if you are looking for typical French food that is rich and lux. This is more of a hipster place with a healthier focus. Great service and amazing wine.

Yelp
Friends from London were here on a Monday night. All the places that were on their list to try were closed, and our 20th Arrondissement neighborhood jewels were as well. I checked my bookmarked Yelp list (of restaurants to try), and Au Passage popped up. I remembered all the incredibly positive food-people buzz, and we were able to make a 20:00 reservation. We were the only patrons when we arrived, but, by 20:15, the restaurant was becoming packed. Lots of tables of women but also men and women, possibly families. People of all ages and looks were enjoying the Au Passage experience. The staff was welcoming and super nice. That and the energy of the crowd made it exciting to be there. Not to mention... The food. Man, we were happy. At night, tapas make up the menu. We had oysters, sea urchins, a delicious salad, and I can't remember the 4th entry we tried, but let me just say it was all delightful. Then our magnificent shoulder of lamb was served with lentils, heavy on a wonderful mustard, and we oohed and ahed--also about the wine, first a good white and then a red (I don't remember what they were but we were pleased). The decor is fab funky, and the whole experience was delicious and fun. I'd be happy to come back any day. We were surprised to discover that chef James Henry was Australian, but he made our merely beautiful day meld into a perfect night. I highly recommend Au Passage.

Yelp
We had late dinners here twice and both times were great. The service, the quality of food and ingredients were superb. The oysters were fresh, the asparagus dish was unique, the chocolate ganache was to die for. You really can't go wrong with the menu items. This was a great local spot our Airbnb host suggested and it was so good we came back again a second night! It can be super busy and crowded but they were still very kind and accommodating. Thank you for an awesome dining experience in Paris.
