The Best Restaurants in the Laurentian Mountains, Quebec | Eater Montreal

"Cabin or no cabin, Val-David’s Au Petit Poucet is a destination in and of itself for Montrealers. Come for the eggs, bacon and Québécois fixings — house-made cretons, baked beans, maple-smoked ham — and stay for the not-so-Québécois French onion soup." - Ashley Joseph

It’s definitely a place to visit. Amazing ambiance, great food, and excellent service. Our waitress, Claudia, was very pleasant and attentive, making the experience top-notch. The wait time can be long, but their cozy space and complimentary hot chocolate and coffee make it hard to complain 😉

Amaaazing!! Excellent food and warm ambiance, very busy that we had to wait for 45 minutes, but the hot chocolate and coffee with the fire place in the waiting room area make it so enjoyable! Portions are huge. I had salmon with pouched egg; heavenly and melts in your mouth! Their Crepes are to die for , so huge and fresh made strawberry jam, with home made bread!!! Sourdough huge portions with tasty butter! I’ll definitely go back with my family..!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Super friendly, happy staff. The environment and food was amazing. We love this place. Super charming. You have to eat here at least once, if not twice :)

Great place. We ordered a Full Rack of Ribs 🍖 & Sweet Potato Fries 🍠 **IMPORTANT TO NOTE: I indicated we spent 50-60 Bux per person because we drank. A lot. The food was VERY FAIRLY PRICED. and the drinks we're perfect. The Waitress/ BarGirl was professional & kind: She worked with us- we tried to be respectful and order in French (which we always do) but she was kind enough to see when we were struggling & continued in English. She made notes to ensure that she ordered what we asked for. And she was very attentive, But not overbearing. We were thrilled with the live music: A gentleman guitarist & singer who has wonderfully harmonic- It was a great lunch. And very cool signage in the women's washroom.

Google
Amazing iconic long standing restaurant in the Laurentians featuring breakfast and lunch meals. The quality of the food is amazing including the homemade smoked bacon, ham, cretons and baked beans. The decor is spectacular too with an authentic log cabin feel down to the real wood fireplace. They don't accept reservations and first come first serve. Expect lots of people especially on weekends but they have an indoor and outdoor waiting area in season with chairs and fireplaces. You can also buy many of their homemade products to take home.

Of course! Here is a review written in the first person, focusing on the experience and ambiance. *** We had family visiting from Brazil and wanted to give them a true taste of a classic Canadian morning. We chose **Beauty's Luncheonette** in Mile End for its legendary status and authentic vibe. The moment we stepped inside, we felt like we’d traveled back in time. The retro diner ambiance was exactly the authentic experience we were hoping for. Our visitors were charmed by the cozy, historic feel—it was a world away from the cafes back home in Brazil. The service was warm and made us all feel right at home. While we enjoyed our classic breakfast plates, the real star was the famous bread and actually purchased the popular meat pie. It was such a fun and uniquely Canadian dish that everyone loved. It was the perfect introduction to Montreal’s food culture for our family. The combination of genuine and the timeless atmosphere gave them a memorable taste of a real Canadian breakfast.

Wanted to go on a drive so came here to eat all the way from montreal! This was my second visit and both times, the restaurant was completely full. The food tastes like homemade and I think they even make their own strawberry jam which tasted amazing. The pie was not really for me cuz it was extremely sweet but overall it was a great experience. The omelet is very airy (idk how go decribe it but it's not your regular omelet. It tastes like korean steamed eggs if you know that one) so if you don't like it don't order that one like my mom who was a bit disappointed. But I liked my tourtière personally :)

Yelp
They have this on their website, but just for clarity... They do not take reservations and wait times can be about 1.5 hours!!! The said, they really do make waiting comfortable. Free coffee and hot chocolate. Nice seating areas inside and out, a little store to buy their home made products. Lots to take pictures of. Ambiance: 10/10 The service was so friendly. Even with a packed restaurant the whole day, the servers were quick but so nice. We had The Ogre and The Trappeur. With the exception of the bacon, which was a little like jerky, everything was amazing. Fresh, real food. The country bread was to die for! I would revisit if I knew I was going to be in the area again.

Yelp
Every time we passed by here, the parking lot was beyond full - regardless of season, so we tried it and enjoyed it. It's traditional quebecois cuisine

Yelp
Quaint little restaurant with log cabin vibes. Good Friday of classical breakfast staple items, and sugar shack Quebec inspired foods. Portion sizes are quite generous. This place can get quite busy however staff are very professional and efficient at getting you served quickly.

Yelp
One of the host wasn't having a good day. My boyfriend ask if he could be seated close to the fireplace. She acted like that was a big deal. She started to seat everyone that was walking in the fireplace seat. We saw them one by one sit down. We were left waiting in the front. We had an appointment so eventually we asked just to be seated. Now that this is out of the way. This is the second time trying the breakfast food. I took eggs and bacon this time. Food was serve warm and quickly. I really like there strawberry jam it's delicious. We bought one at the store on the way out. $7.50 they offer a lot of different food that you can bring. Again I love the decoration for the holidays, It is very festive.

Yelp
The hype is so real! My dad went to this place when he was growing up and has always talked about, and we finally were able to try it! First of all, this place is popping! There was a line out the door, even in the freezing cold weather. The line went quickly thank gosh, and we were seated within 10 minutes. The interior is SO BEYOND cozy! I felt like we were in a ski lodge with the fire roaring. It was also decorated for the holidays, so that added some charm. Our waitress was fantastic and super helpful. We ordered the Omelette cabane a sucre and the french toast with fruit and berries, with a side of country bread. Every single item was to die for. The eggs were SO fluffy and tasty, the breakfast potatoes were perfectly seasoned, the bacon was delicious, the country bread and the jam were BOMBBBB, and the french toast was literally insane, the maple cream on top was sinfully sweet, and the fruit was so fresh. The only thing we were CRAZY about were the baked beans and ham, but we also don't like that dish to begin with, but apparently people go crazy for it. Oh well, we would still come back again and again for the other things we had. Cannot wait to return!

Yelp
The ambiance and service were good. Our waitress was sweet and tried to accommodate our preferences. However, unless you want to totally block an artery, I suggest you look elsewhere. The food may be traditionally Quebecois - but if you are trying to be health conscious, beware - no veggie egg-white omelets here! The coffee was good as were the home fries. LOTS of meats! Seriously? "Pig's knuckles with meat balls!!!" LOL

Vanessa S.

Yelp
Amazing food and staff are incredible. The ambiance is very nice as well with both indoors wood fireplaces

Yelp
Really glad I stopped here! The wait was a bit long (no reservations, sorry friends) but we waited it out and were rewarded. First up we sat at the bar which I thought I wouldn't like but the staff are super friendly and the food is so good I didn't mind at all. Had a mimosa with breakfast bc of course I did. Then I had one of the best fluffy omelets EVER! Such great flavor + all the other really good sides, including the sweet beans, which apparently is totally a Quebec thing and I am HERE FOR IT! Overall the food was really good... everything from the eggs to the potatoes... all great comfort food that I really enjoyed! Add to that the affordable price point and the cozy ambiance and this place is a WINNER for me! Stay Cheerful ;)

Yelp
Nothing like a true Quebec countryside experience. And not just for us south of the border types looking for something hokey and touristy. This place is an institution. Perhaps my favorite item is the crepes, but what i love even more than the ambiance and the delicious warm drinks, is that you can take a little piece of poucet with you in the form of their undeniably best-in-class strawberry jam and their baked beans. Both are by the cash register. Both actually traveled well. And everyone I gifted them to has begged for more. Even more so than the ice cider and ice wine.

Yelp
Great spot. Has a warm cozy feeling, lots of staff who are quick and friendly. Food was great! Ham is defs there specialty so whatever you do pick something with it. Club sandwich with the ham is good it's mostly ham and just one piece of bacon, you'll be full from just half. The Ham Sandwich with Swiss u must try it's really good, the ham is smoked and very flavourful with the bun and Swiss cheese it melts in your mouth. They have breakfast that are big portions as well you have your classic combos as well as pancakes with different creations. And after all of that if you're still Hungry there's a store that has sweets and jams caramel and pies that is made by them right at the front. Awesome location

Yelp
A friend recommended this spot and it did not dissapoint! it was a 15 min wait that turned out to be 25 min wait, which was okay because theres hot chocolate and coffee while you wait along with their little gift shop filled with maple syrup and cookies and other cute gifts. Loved looking... we bought two things of maple syrup and maple syrup candy. Sylvie was our waitress and she was a delight... soo sweet and nice it made our meal that much better. The orange juice tasted so fresh. We ordered the ogre (Fresh orange juice, 2 eggs, maple-smoked ham, smoked bacon, beans with diced ham, home fried potatoes, regular toast, jam, tea or coffee), the authentic quebec meal (Petit Poucet meat pie, maple-smoked ham, beans with diced ham, home fried potatoes, homemade fruit ketchup), and french onion soup. I've never had meat pie and it was so good and different. The french onion soup was the best i've ever had! its a must!! even at 10am! The country bread was also amazing. everything was perfect about this meal. Will definitely come back next time we are in the area.

Yelp
Such a cute & cozy restaurant. The outside looks kind of like a cabin the inside is pretty big with a nice fireplace right in the middle. Our server offered us mimosas before anything which was awesome! Their mimosas are made with freshly squeezed oranges and you can definitely tell, they are yummy. The food is delicious. We had the croque-monsieur which was amazing and their breakfast potatoes and an order of French toast (it's HUGE) which is made with their country bread and is absolutely delicious. Not to mention how great out server was. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This place has charm and the breakfast is wonderful. Those Canadian beans for breakfast sure hit the spot. Be willing to wait as there is usually a wait, but they have free coffee while you're waiting.

Yelp
Hospitality is superb! Very delicious food and amazing service. Definitely returning here

Yelp
Location: Up in the Laurentians - you'll have to map it and make sure you've got a car handy because transit doesn't exist up here. Private parking lot on site. The place: Quite big and totally country meets chalet. It's very cozy with lots of wood and a big fireplace in the center. Take note: if you're lucky enough to score a table by the fireplace, you're going to roast like a little piglet. The food: Poucet is known for its ham, so stopping in and not ordering this will make you seem a little silly. The ham is awesome - and this is coming from someone who generally doesn't eat meat. So is the maple smoked bacon. They serve up great breakfasts - the potatoes are amazing, they know how to scramble eggs, and they can make a mean allongé. No complaints from me! All pork items are made in-house. Oh, and the home-made jam and country-style bread rock. Service: Good. These guys are always busy so the servers don't have too much time to chit chat, but they're always polite and pleasant. Price point: On par with breakfast places in Montreal. It will all depend on what you're ordering. This is definitely one of my favorite places to get breakfast in the Laurentians.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere, good food. Not sure what else to say, this is my first yelp review and apparently I need to have more words to post... there, did it!

Yelp
This place is the jam--I mean, confiture. Service is warm, vibe is alive and family-oriented, and food is wholesome, authentic, memorable. They've got a great thing going in an area that will be loyal for years to come. Don't miss if you're on your way to Tremblant! Croque madame and eggs benny are the breakfast way to go.

Yelp
Perfect Quebec breakfast and lunch, their homemade smoked ham is out of this world, their prices are fair and the food is homemade. The place has been there since 1945 and is always busy - that alone should tell you they know what they are doing!

Jill M.

Yelp
I love this little place. Been going since I was a kid with my family. Just recently stopped with some friends and everyone loved it. The ham sandwich with swiss cheese is the best.

Yelp
What's not to love about this place? It was recommended by someone from our hotel in Montreal when my hubby was looking for places to drive to in the area. It was a Saturday and we came in for brunch. It was busy but we were seated immediately. The service here is phenomenal - even though they're busy, they take the time to explain the menu and the woman who served us even took the time to answer our questions about the area. The food...! It's simple but oh so good. Take a bite and feel the love that's been put into your meal. They sell a lot of their foods in a small shop by the entrance (their ham, delicious baked beans, maple syrup). Bought a bottle of maple syrup on my way out. I'm ready to make pancakes over the weekend!

Yelp
Came here over the summer break. The food is authentic Québécois fair. The decor is cabin style, with locally source artisanale accents. Took the Ogre breakfast, a great sample of a typical breakfast. Out of this world!

Yelp
Delicious. Love this place for breakfast. Halfway between bfast joint and sugar shack. Love the big fireplace and wooden furniture. Super cozy. Lots of people around 9-10 am, but we always go early with the kids so all good. This place is a legend in the area, never fails to satisfied.

Yelp
You must stop here!! So delicious & the atmosphere is wonderful!! Great stop off for a delicious meal en route to or from Mont Tremblant. And our kids were thrilled they serve breakfast all day!

Yelp
This place has been around since the mid fourties and feels like an old lodge. There are two large dining areas, one has a large fireplace in the center. The service is quick and friendly. The menu is mainly Québécois cuisine and they are opened for breakfast and lunch. Excellent quality and good sized portions. I'd check it out if I were you!
