Bistro Royal

Let’s star with positive: ambience of reversed Bistro Royal is simply wonderful. You are positively transported into streets of Paris. Now the bad: Food Unfortunately this has to be the worst Tartar I probably have ever had. The texture of pate is unappealing and it was completely overseasoned. You could not taste anything past vinegary acidity. Mostly tasted like you took a mouthful of mustard. Being my first meal of the day I could not bring myself to finish. Service was wonderful but I did not bring up the issue (didn’t want to spoil a wonderful Sunday afternoon) so do not know what the outcome would have been. Advice: come for ambience but avoid tartar at all cost.

The sauce and the servers was good. My fries and salad was great… but my meat was chewy.

Promises lots with great decor and views over the square in Kongens Nytorv but delivers far less than expected... for a relatively small restaurant the service process is overly complicated which delays everything and no common standard for the level of service you receive. The front of house also needs to change. Customers should be welcomed not whatever passes for this here...

The food was delicious and the service was great. If we were in Copenhagen again, we would definitely visit. Sometimes I do wonder what people see to complain about, when they have given low ratings. A big plus from us.

Good location - we sat outside watching the world go by Pricey, but that's the location and the food and drink were of good quality The bistro was very quiet but my cheese and ham Croissant still took 20 minutes to arrive. The coffee was nice but warm not hot Food and drink very good though

Highly recommended for breakfast! Good portions of exceptional quality food. If you like truffle, definitely try the truffle scrambled egg! Avocado toast was also excellent

I came relatively late for dinner because my plane was late, rushed to the scandic nordic hotel and the lovely concierge gave me this tip. It was great food at every turn and good price. For 450 DKK I got a full 3 course menu.

We were here on a Tuesday and the place was quite busy. Waiters were nice but forgetful (cutlery, drinks, not making a dish gluten-free as requested) and service was slow. Food was generally good but the portions were smalll in relation to price. Can’t beat the location though!

We happen to eat here because it is close to our hotel. The place is very hip and their dishes are reasonably priced. The staff speaks English pretty well. Our server was very friendly. Since the place was very crowded, it took a little bit of time to get our order in. I had a yellow fin tuna and a local beer. The tuna was excellent but the beer was average. My friend had Manhattan clam chowder and a Caesar salad with a Raspberry Martini. Music is a bit loud so conversation was tedious. The restrooms are very clean.

Absolutely fantastic service and great food! The environment is pleasing and entertaining right next to the square. The service is friendly and inviting! We tried the cod croute, fries, garlic bread and some green salads. Wow the food was amazing!! I highly recommend this place to everyone. Cheers

THE BEEF TARTAR GAVE US FOOD POISONING. Service was also HORRIBLE. Food was LACKLUSTER. I like snails and I like beef tartar but this place is not the place for them. The snails I had to dig so much to get the meat out. The beef tartar had so much vinegar that i didn't even finish it. Only picked the fries but no one came to ask me about my meal to even return it...all servers kept avoiding us. Never got our water when we reminded our server many times about it. Never got our receipt and had to remind them over and over too. We all ended up with food poisoning from the beef tartar and wrote an email which was ignored...to all international travelers I wouldn't recommend eating here, not worth your time and money in CPH

We had a late lunch here the other day and it was decent. I had the avocado salad which was fine although could have had more greens. (I also asked to add chicken but the server must have missed it, no chicken.) My boyfriend had a burger and fries. We also ordered a side of onion rings. The fries and onion rings were both delicious, really hot and flavourful. Everything else was just ok. Service was a little slow and we seemed to have multiple servers which was confusing. Interior of the restaurant is really nice. I liked the colours (white walls with hunter green chairs and dark brown accents) and there were lots of candles around. This seems to be a huge restaurant, with the front room (visible from the street) and a back room down the hallway with the bathrooms. Overall an okay meal but a little expensive considering the food and service wasn't great. You'll probably get better value by going a little further north away from the metro station and tourist areas.

typical Copenhagen. they think they are smart and chique, but forget to service the clients who are actually there and who is paying. they open the doors when it's freezing outside. we came to eat and sit a nice warm place. we told them what's going on , and the answer was, oh we are doing deliveries so you guys just have to freeze. honestly thats not how you treat paying clients ! wake up !!! But food was amazing, i feel bad for the chef who is actually making a decent product

This was not a pleasant experience. When first asking one waiter for a food menu we were told that they were not serving food. We found this interesting as everyone around us had food. When asking another waiter she was confused, didn't bring us a menu after asking. Had to go inside and find someone else. After ordering we waited 45 minutes for a Caesar salad and a piece of cheese, which we only revived after checking in after waiting for the food for 40 minutes. I could have run to the nearest grocery store and cooked the same meal in less time. Food was ok. Incredibly over priced for a basic experience with horrible service.

I've been here numerous time, and I love this place ! This is a really good place to go either for a intimate dinner or for a big group. In big groups we usually get the Grilled beef cuvette which is 200kr each, cut our own meat with a side of fries and salad. When the meat is finished they'll bring you more, (the sides you'll have to buy extra on the side once finishing the first that's included) This is on my Top list of steak places to go in Copenhagen. Highly recommend!

If you are visiting Denmark from Sweden - don't be confused that the Swedish word for breakfast is Frukost, which is lunch in Danish. Whether that is because Danes snooze until noon or if Swedes eat lunch for breakfast remains to be discovered. Anyway, if you're going for an early bite of food (morgenmad) - try the regular breakfast for 100DKK and upgrade with truffle flavored eggs and a cup of coffee/tea. Delicious and good size of the portions. You get two slices of rye bread with tasty cheese & butter (they look a bit dull but don't be fooled). The granola with the skyr was great, delicious with interesting flavors marrying each other, in a happy way (might have been some sugar in it - forgot to ask - but didn't care so much this morning). It took some time before I got my food but since I arrived just after the opening and a few customers were already there - that might have explained it. Calm and soothing background music. Worthy a visit!

I will admit that since living in Copenhagen I have avoided Bistro Royal afraid of price gouging for fair fare due to its prime location in the center of the tourist thoroughfare in town. Convinced to step in with friends for lunch, I am happy to stand corrected. Delicious dishes with drinks under 150dkk each. I had the fjord shrimp and egg on rye bread with greens - fresh, yummy and not over dressed. My husband enjoyed the tartare with the most tasty aioli and fries. Our friend was happy with her burger. The location is prime for people watching out the window. Grab a booth on the Gothersgade side and enjoy the view. Classy but modern interior made for a lovely atmosphere inside. Service attentive and helpful. Check out the blue tiles in the bathrooms - I'm in love!

I was there yesterday for dinner. My absolute favorite dinner place is Madklubben, and this is one of their restaurants. The service was excellent! Your table is booked for 2 hours, and the service is so fast that you have time to eat the appetizer, main course & the dessert before you leave. The music is a little bit loud and the sound is not so good. The room gets very noise when people talk but it dosen't matter cause everything else is perfect :-) Remember to book 3-4 days before if you're planning on eating there Friday or Saturday night, cause it's almost always booked. The prices are very nice :-)

Had a couple of appetizer and beers. Both are wonderful. We had white asparagus with a light cream sauce on top. Very well done. Also had the crab roll. Very nice. Not heavy at all. Nice presentation. Very friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Location is fantastic. Right at the end of the canal that comes in on the Baltic Sea. Beautiful.

It was our last night backpacking in Copenhagen so my friends and I figured that we mind as well have a nice dinner out. Bistro Royal was quite close to our hostel and walking distance. I had the FILET OF MONKFISH which was served with winter cabbage, a potato puree and mussel sauce. Very well put together dish that paired wonderfully with a glass of white wine. ENJOY!

I'm neither pro or con 'Madklubben' - I've had good and bad experiences at their restaurants... But this one seems to be one of the better. I went there with my colleagues and we were 32 (as in freaking THIRTY-TWO) people who had to get our food at the same time and this usually causes a lot of trouble and waiting time, but let me say - it worked out pretty good. We got the food quick and everything was correct! I chose the cheeseburger and it was quite tasty. Only negative thing is that I really hate mustard and there was a lot of it in my burger. Really tasty fries!! Had the coupe royal for dessert and it was so yummy. Wish I had an excuse for eating two. Service was quick, efficient and super friendly - it's a discountplace but it didn't fell discount at all.

Me and a friend came here on their second day being open since we were very curious to try the new restaurant 100 meters from our job! And we definitely were not disappointed! We were able to walk in, and only wait about 5 mins, and were seated. The service was a bit slow at first, but they were completely packed, so understandable. We had a great view of Kongens Nytorv, and once we were greeted, it went really smoothly. A bottle of the house white was only 200 kr. Great value for money. Yes, the menu is simple, but that's the concept.Our first course is a great salad which we devoured. He had the steak, and I had the mussels. The portions are ridiculous! (Reminded me of American portions!) And each main dish comes with a LARGE BUCKET of french fries! We definitely only needed one bucket between the two of us! I thought the mussels were good, but a little too salty. He loved the steak. Sadly we didn't have room for dessert because we were stuffed. That will be for next time. I must say, being able to have a dinner for 2 with wine for 600 kr in the middle of town and leave completely stuffed and satisfied is a small feat, as most people living in Copenhagen realize. If you like a simple menu with good value for money and a great atmosphere and locations, this is the place for you. I will definitely be recommending it to friends looking for a spot in the middle of town!

Good service. Decent food. Two things I mainly look for in a restaurant. The ambiance comes next. They have 100 dkk lunch meals - which I think cheap by Denmark standards Dinner meals cost more. And since this is a Danish-French bistro, I'm a regular fan of the huge portion of blue mussels in white wine (moules mariniere), fries served with mayo (not ketchup, mind you ) and the salty caramel sundae just yum Overall, I would say this restaurant is easy on the pocket and one can get to taste a piece of France.

I've only been here once, for the recent Super Bowl Sunday; Falcons should've won! I didn't have an entree, nor dessert. But thier ribeye with red wine sauce and fries was an absolute delight. So was the onion rings I ordered on the side, which was a much bigger portion than I anticipated. And the Bourbon Sour I had was quite good too. And all for decent prices, so I can easily recommend the place as one of the better in Copenhagen, especially if you get to sit in the back room, instead of the front room. Go there, I doubt you'll regret it :)

Went here last Saturday with 5 other friends. 4 of us arrived first and is meet by a nice waiter who guides us to our table. We sit for 2 min. and she comes back to ask if we want to start with some buble water and we say we haven´t looked at the menu yet. 2 min. pass and she is back asking the same question and we give the same answer. After a couple of minutes our two other friends arrives and after a couple of minutes, because we are hungry we agree on the steak and a bottle of wine. The waiter is back and I order for all of us, where she comment on if we didn´t want the buble water anyway (no, we did not want it, and you are a little to eager to sell it, read the crowd). We wait for the food which had a salad as a starter, but instead the sides for the maincourse come in? The waiter then see that we haven´t gotten our starter and quickly goes into the kicthen to get the salads and comes back and makes a very claerly lie of their mistake, that they just changed it last minute and now the saled (the starter) is now also a side. Not a problem but a little wird instead of just admitting that they made a mistake. But we get the steak and the smallest bowl of sause for 6 people, ask for more and 20 min. after they bring in a very big bowl (were was that to begin with) The meat was really bad I think all of us had to do the trick with spitting the meat out again because we we unable to chew it. Good thing was the fries, the salad was a little to rustic (it´s okay to cut it out a little bit. The price was normally an okay price but the experience all together it was not a place I would recommend or go back to. I normally really like Madklubben and all of their branches, but the food is not worth returning to.

Steak at he bar without reservation made this touristy place seem just right for a rainy night. The prices are commensurate with the location but the staff (high), and the menus is classic Copenhagen cafe.

Really liked this place. Wife and I had the beef and it was great. Very relaxed place with good food and desert. Not many choices, but they do it well.

Loved the food and the service, delicious dishes. We had lunch there and the salmon salad was excellent , my friends had the cheeseburger and they loved it

Excellent food, not a huge menu so the food is done correctly. The best french fries I've had in Copenhagen so far. Service was slow to start but very friendly and increased as the night went on. Skip the more pretenscious restaurants near by

Great food great price ok service. Now this is a restaurant I was very very impressed by. There was a line to come in of people waiting to be seated the whole time I was having lunch so from 12.30 to 14.30 on a Tuesday the place was absolutely packed. That for me it is very impressive for a city like Copenhagen. The food is very nice for the price, the wine list is amazing we had the Sauvignon Blanc from Loire they have from Domaine Sauvion it is really nice fresh and citrusy. I tried their goat cheese salad for me it was missing an extra goat cheese it was a little too little for the salads ratio. It was a business lunch so for me it was not the best location as it is way too noisy for a business lunch and too crammed. My partner had a burger, they didn't get it right at first because he asked with no dressing and it came with a lot for dressing he returned it and it took them 45 min to bring a new one on the upper side we got his meal for free.

Possibly the best meal I've ever had. Ever. My wife and I ordered the classic menu--great value, huge steak, and an ENTIRE POT of mashed potatoes! As I took my first bites I was aware that these flavours had never entered my mouth before, and was overcome with gratitude. Great service that was super flexible with our wine preferences too.
