The 20 Best Restaurants In Amsterdam 2024

"Because of the centuries-long Dutch occupation of the islands, it’s pretty easy to find Indonesian food in the Netherlands. Popular dishes include nasi rames, loempia, and spekkoek, but to get an expansive intro to the Dutch-Indonesian table, order a rijstafel at Restaurant Blauw. Originally a Sumatran meal, rijstafels can only really be found in the Netherlands and the one at Blauw comes with the requisite rice and multiple shareable dishes. Bring at least one friend, order the meat and fish version, and you’ll get 17 dishes that come out all at once, from beef rendang and spicy shrimp belado to refreshing acar and gado gado. " - paolo espanola

For a modern take on Indonesian food, head to this high-ceilinged room in the Oud-Zuid neighbourhood, just southwest of Vondelpark. It may be called ‘Blue’, but this peppy spot is done out in black, white and red, with a mural-sized family portrait dominating one wall. You can find traditional rijsttafels here (including a vegan option) or opt for the ‘Experience Menu’ to sample a selection of Indonesian street food

Google
A Taste of Authentic Indonesian Cuisine! We came to Restaurant Blauw with high expectations, having heard that Amsterdam boasts some of the best Indonesian food outside of Indonesia itself, a legacy of the Dutch East Indies Company and centuries of shared history. We opted for the rijsttafel (rice table), and it was a fantastic experience! While the individual dishes might appear small, the sheer variety and abundance meant there was more than enough to share. Every single dish was bursting with fresh flavors, clearly made with high-quality ingredients. From the fragrant spices to the perfectly cooked meats and vegetables, each bite was a delight. The service was also quick and courteous, adding to the enjoyable atmosphere. Overall, our dinner at Restaurant Blauw was absolutely delicious and a true highlight of our time in Amsterdam. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic and flavorful Indonesian culinary adventure!

Google
Excellent experience dining here. We chose the pre-set Indonesian menu. It came with approx 12-14 dishes meant for 2, and it was the right amount of food for two. Eggplant and shrimp were the highlights for us! Excellent food overall combined with quick/friendly service. Definitely recommended.

Google
We tried one of the rice plates. It was utterly amazing. A wonderful variety of small dishes, which leave you full and arguing over which one was the best. Desserts were incredible, with amazing flavors!

Google
rijsttafel was very good and drinks were good too especially the espresso martini and Bintao beer! Service was the best! Really helpful and food comes out quickly too

Super friendly manager. She was Indonesian and also a great service yesterday from the Philippino lady. The food was amazing. We had a full rice table with everything 😋 highly recommended. The cabernet from Chile is also super good.

My first time having Indonesian food and it was awesome. Cozy place in Amsterdam near renowned VondelPark. I look forward to go back there.

As someone passionate about Indonesian food, I can confidently say that Restaurant Blauw in Amsterdam offers one of the most authentic experiences I've encountered. I enjoy Indonesian cuisine regularly, and this restaurant truly stands out among all others I’ve tried across various countries. The atmosphere at Blauw is warm and inviting, making it the perfect setting for a meal. The menu features a wide range of traditional dishes, and the flavors are nothing short of incredible. Each dish showcase the rich culinary heritage of Indonesia. One of the highlights of my visit was when our waiter explained the food arrangement on our table, mentioning that the dishes are presented from mild to spicy. This thoughtful approach allowed us to gradually experience the heat and complexity of the flavors, enhancing our dining experience. I have ordered the Authentic Mix Meal, which includes Meat, Fish & Vegetables. This order combines all the dishes you need to try in small plates. It was delicious. While I found the portion sizes to be a bit small, they were still acceptable given the quality and authenticity of the dishes. Each bite was packed with incredible flavors that transported me back to Indonesia. The service was attentive and friendly, contributing to the overall fantastic experience. In summary, if you're looking for authentic Indonesian cuisine in Amsterdam, Restaurant Blauw is a must-visit. It has quickly become one of my favorite spots, and I can’t wait to return! Highly recommended for anyone who loves Indonesian food! Blauw Amsterdam, we recommend!

Google
I ate at restaurant blauw with my partner. Absolutely amazing food, very friendly staff and great wine/cocktails. We shared a few starters and then two main dishes. The photo reflects how much food you receive from just ordering two mains. You are immersed in flavour and do not know what to finish first. I can not wait to go back

Yelp
I've never had Indonesian food before and not sure if this would be a fair reference but I must say the flavor in this place was really good. I ordered the fried fish with coconut sauce and my daughter had beef. Super nice service, too. The atmosphere was nice. People were pleasant.

Yelp
When in Amsterdam, one should eat the food of the country's former colonial possessions, so off to Blauw we went, to experience an authentic Indonesian Rijstaffel dinner. Slight snag in our reservation; although the on-line system confirmed a 7:30 table, they serve by seatings at 6 and 8; not sure why the on-line system would take a 7:30 in that case, but it did. After a few minutes with the host staff, we were offered a bar high top; after about 10 mins they gave us a regular table. What they didn't mention was that we had to wait until 8 to order. Oh well, the food was worth waiting for. We ordered the authentic Rijstaffel, which includes meat, fish and vegetable options. We were not expecting the variety of dishes that were delivered to our table; the waiter brought about 7 plates, and then came back with about 8 more! The food was delicious; the chicken satay and the goat satay were both wonderful. We also enjoyed the beef rendang, chicken curry, and fried fish with sweet soy sauce. The shrimp in spicy sauce was also a winner; the shrimp were plump and juicy. Finally, the veggie dishes were pretty varied; crispy honeyed potato sticks, sweet and sour pickled cucumber slices, jackfruit in curry sauce, cabbage with a sour vinegar sauce, egg curry, and a super-delicious sautéed green bean dish. The food was served with white and fried rice. It was WAY too much for the two of us to finish. We ended with traditional Indonesian coffee which was served with complimentary slices of a ginger/honey cake. Recommended for an authentic Indonesian "Rice Table"/Rijstaffel meal in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Good indonesian food. Not as spicy as some others. Pleasant service. As expected, there are many, many dishes in the sample style. They barely fit on the table. It's nice because you get one skewer of this and a little taste of that. Clean pleasant bathroom.

Yelp
One of the best Indonesian restaurant and the only one I have been to. We ordered the meal for two but wow so much food came out. There were about 15 different items on the table and the service was good. Food came out fast and the environment had a cozy atmosphere. I would def visit again and would recommend this place!

Yelp
We ordered the rice table! I bet we had 15 small dishes from beef redang to redang jackfruit to fried rice. All amazing! We had a lovely server from Ireland that made the night perfect!

Yelp
Ordered: Menu Biru (~€53/person): selection of street food including meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, and dessert from the chef Gin-Tonic Blauw 7 Rempah (~€13): their homemade gin with 7 spices (Lemongrass, Juniper, Coriander, Cloves, Lime leaf, Pandan leaf, Rawit pepper) L'Autantique Chardonnay Languedoc (~€30/bottle) Aya's take: My first Rijsttafel! Rijsttafel translates into "rice table" which is an elaborate Indonesian meal adapted by the Dutch. Their downstairs section is semi-private although still very loud but it gave us all the opportunity to sit together and move freely. This kind of meal is perfect for our large party of 15 people as they bring out tons of dishes and plenty of food. You will absolutely not get up from the table hungry! Each dish was vibrant, insanely well-seasoned, and varied in flavor. I'm salivating just writing this. If you're in Amsterdam, I highly recommend having a Rijsttafel experience - Blauw is a great option for it.

Yelp
Amazing. Great food, great vibe, great service. Pretty good value too. The food was great, I recommend the "meals" where you get to try everything . It's a lot of food, you will be stuffed. I liked setting pretty much. I'll be back! Right by the park too which is a great walk or bike before and after the meal.(Amsterdam location)

Yelp
Service was solid, not amazing but not horrible. Server was super nice, but they pull the classic move of offering sparkling or still water and charging you for it, which is kind of frustrating. Food was at worst pretty average and at best super tasty. We had the buri menu/rice table, which had some huge highlights (lamb/chicken satay, tempeh, curry were all great) and just some super average dishes (hard boiled eggs with curry, warm vegetables with coconut milk). Super fun to get to have so many bites of mostly really good food, but not unskippable. Cute little spot with natural lighting and good, unique food

Yelp
Nice restaurant. Good service. Really fun eating all these different dishes and flavors. Everything was good but not gourmet. Had a good time. Would go back.

Yelp
We had a very fun and enjoyable time sampling a massive amount of Dutch Indonesian food with about 17 different dishes (I lost count) with that came with our meat and fish rice table. It was really ridiculous but I guess that's the point. I am not familiar with Indonesian food, but my understanding is that the rice table was invented by the Dutch to showcase the rich and diverse array of flavors and spices of their colony. I though the food was very good although was very much on the sweet side. The service was very friendly and it was a lot of fun trying so many small dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food! This was a great find and they had a full list of just about every kind of allergy on the menu and a number coding that matched their chart. We got the meat rice table and they brought like 16 mini dishes. Basically this was tapas. So fun !!!!!! Wow. We were blown away. Ranking all the dishes was all we ended up talking about and they were all good. There are not that many tables so a reservation is probably best but it was easy on their website.

Yelp
Unlike any culinary experience I've had before! This traditional Indonesian rice table was such a special meal on our trip. The flavors of each of the dishes were a poetry of their own. Each one distinctly different bite after bite. If you're going to give us 12+ dishes, they need to each carry their own or it's not a special spread. This was top notch eats and wish we could have one of these in NYC! You must get a table and try the riches of Indonesian flavors! They have meat and vegetarian varieties so all diets can be enjoyed fully without sacrifice! Great wine list and the service was on point as well!

Yelp
Blauw was recommended to me by a friend as a must eat place, and she was correct. It's a bit out of the way but 11 tram stops and 4 minute walk was worth it. We ordered the mixed rice table (2 meat, fish and vegan) and the flotilla of boats never seemed to stop. All were great and came in a variety of spice/heat levels so there was something for everyone. The service was incredibly fast and we were done before you knew it.
google avatar

Yelp
Your 4-stars do not sway me. This was recommended by my husband's boss, who raved about it. I do not impress that easily. We ordered the meat rice table and were shortly inundated with little ceramic boats of food. We asked the server what was what but it was hard to keep it straight and things were beginning to taste similar to me, the same sauces, same, spices, similar preparations. My husband, who eats most anything, raved about it, of course. I came away from the table wanting more, different textures, contrasts in flavors. Service was uneven.

Yelp
Lovely service, delish dinner and dessert. We had the meat sampler course. The crème brûlée was magical.

Yelp
You can include the Rice Table or Risjsttafel meal as part of your Dutch food tries while visiting Amsterdam. It has a three hundred years history with the Dutch through their influence with the Spice Islands and Dutch East Indies Company. Had to look it up on Wikipedia:). The meal was a great relief from nearly two weeks of Spanish and Italian delights. We had 16 different dishes from fish curry to satay and peanut sauce . There were other Indonesian restaurants that offer the Risjsttafel in Amsterdam closer to the tourist area but this one was just a 20 minute Uber or taxi ride from the Dam center .

Yelp
Food was just ok. Very sugary and sweet rather than savory. It is just marginal food that you can really get anywhere. Service was abysmal. We waited 20 minutes for water, and other 15 minutes to have our drink order taken and all the while, the tables around us that were larger parties, were being treated very well. Ambiance is chaotic and not very nice. It was our first visit and we will not be returning on future visits to Amsterdam. Just not worth the price. The waiter guy with the bad ponytail was rude and unprofessional unless you spoke Dutch. Too many other amazing places to go in the city, especially since this place is far out of the way. Don't waste your time or money.

Yelp
Nostalgic view of my family's gustatory adventure at Blauw. At the time, August 9, 2011, we were greeted by an enthusiastic and ambitious chef. The food was new, engaging, and absolutely delicious. A fantastic meal! We were given a container of Blauw proprietary spices, which we brought back to USA (don't tell the custom authorities) and used sparingly so as to relish for months thereafter. Unfortunately, we have not been back- our loss. I am glad that we were there at the beginning, when food was the primary goal and the naiveté of the restaurant business allowed for an intimate relationship between a visionary chef and his customer fans. What an evening to remember, which we have all these years! All of our best from Nashville, Tennessee USA. So glad for your deserved success. If you have maintained a modicum of the gustatory experience that we had on that lucky August 2011 night, I understand why!

Yelp
One of the best meals we have ever had! Loved the atmosphere too. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike. Fancy but not to the point that you might feel pressured or judged if you aren't dressed up enough. We spent about $50 a person.

Yelp
Was it mind blowing ? No. Was it good, yes. Service was ok. The lumpia and veggie dishes were our favorite, and the fried cod! Definitely plenty of food! I wanted my spouse to experience a rijsttaffel and the hotel recommended this one. We were seated promptly, got our app before our drinks. Asked for a couple condiments that never came. It was a Friday and they were very busy. If I could 3 1/2 stars I would. I wouldn't discourage anyone from coming here . I can't eat shrimp (it's not a deadly thing) and they brought us two different fried rice and my spouse a shrimp sate that he said was nice.

Yelp
Extremely disappointing experience, especially given all the glowing reviews online. Everything was incredibly sugary, and the food has definitely been adjusted for Western palates: it felt like a poorly executed version of the General Tso's chicken/orange chicken of Indonesian food. I don't like to give 1 star reviews (the only ones I've given so far are for food poisoning and a literal scam), but this was really an awful dinner. My friend and I ordered the Selera Blauw (meat and vegetables rijsttafel) and the Ikan Rasa (seafood and vegetables), which were each 33,50 €. Every single one of the 20 dishes (including the rice) we had was awful, except the shrimp in sambal sauce, which was overcooked but relatively ok. Everything except the rice, lamb curry, meatball, beef Rendang, and sambal shrimp was way too sugary. Their dishes aren't spicy either: the sambal was the only spicy thing that came to our table. Some notable dishes: -White rice: unevenly cooked with some dry parts. Worse than what an average rice cooker makes. -Nasi goreng: I would not call this fried rice. It had the same texture as the white rice, i.e. parts were soggy, and it wasn't crispy at all. -Sambal goreng kentang (sweet and spicy potatoes): potato shreds in the what felt like the sugariest wonton dipping sauce imaginable. -Satays: the sauce was incredibly sugary -Ikan kembung (mackerel in candelnuts sauce) - simultaneously salty, chewy, squishy, and tough. I couldn't cut through this with a fork. Service was normal. I booked a table online, and the reservation process went smoothly. They accept cards.

Yelp
I don't understand why this place has any decent reviews; the food was bland, flavorless, and greasy (and not in a good way!). And all the servings were really small and expensive. Definitely bring your own salt and spices - or better: try somewhere else! We ordered the vegan rice table for two. First we were brought meat dishes and were told they were vegan. We had to ask two more times before another server confirmed that they were meat. This broke my 12 year Vegetarian stretch. I was upset but our server didn't care and was super upset that we had taken bites and the food would now have to be thrown away. She was so mad at us! ! Ok! I emailed the restaurant but it's been weeks and they haven't responded.

Yelp
This is a fantastic restaurant. We were unable to get into "Ron" just down the street but this place did not disappoint. Highly recommend the Rijstttaffels authentic for the table. Such a great variety of so many amazing tastes on the menu. And get the green pancake dessert. Friendly knowledgeable staff and great drinks as well.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant offering amazing Indonesian food. It was my first ( but not last) dinner there! We booked this restaurant with my colleagues and ordered the menu which is composed of starters, mains dishes to share and dessert. It is served with a drink of your choice. We tried the Indonesian beer which was not too bad. The food was great, there is spicy and not too spicy options, meat, fish or veggies, well a large choice for everybody! You will feel overfill at the end for sure ! I totally recommend this place for Indonesian food in Amsterdam. ( even if it is not in the center)

Yelp
Outstanding. We came almost five years ago and made it a priority to come back on our next visit to Amsterdam. This trip, we did one meat & vegetable rice table, and one seafood and vegetable rice table, both of which were great, although we generally preferred the meats (which I actually wouldn't have guessed going in). Some of our favorites (in no particular order): - Goat satay - Codfish in soy sauce - Egg in coconut sauce - Sweet and spicy potatoes - Both shrimp dishes (spicy and satay) Overall, an outstanding meal that I'd highly recommend.

Yelp
Type of place with empty tables that is "fully booked" in a random rainy night. Would have been our second time eating here, but no worries... wont be coming back and spending my money where I'm not welcomed. Yes, the food is ok, but not the best (its just conveniently located close to my place). The wine's are expensive and mediocre. The waiter made fun of my husband request for ice and more water.

Yelp
This one I have to give credit to Rick Steves, travels through Europe series. Well at least the concept of a cultural diversion that connects the Dutch Masters who brought the flavors and spices of "the spice islands" to much of Europe during their dominance as sea trading merchants. Amsterdams location made it the perfect port to off load cargo from the various ocean going merchant ships with inland waterways to deliver these goods into the interior of Europe. I brushed up on his series knowing I'd be revisiting Amsterdam having come 20 years ago with work colleagues. I love Burmese, Vietnamese, Singaporean etc cuisine. I've never experienced Indonesian. Considering this was a meal not likely to be full of hung over tourists, a bit upscale for the hostel bistro crowd, I was very much looking forward to something non European in a less traveled, more residential part of Amsterdam. We picked based on highest ranking, farthest from center of town and most expensive. Reservations a must. We scored the last at 9 pm. A 12 minute über delivered us to this modern restaurant in a very lovely Hayes Valley or Greenwich village type of hood. We were warmly greeted and seated even though we were 10 minutes early. We started with Indonesian beer and the street food appetizers. This was a bowl of mostly fried items stuffed with savory seafood or ground meats. We ordered one seafood and one meat Rijsttafel. Rijsttafel translates to "rice table". This is the elaborate feast from the Padong area of West Sumatra. Consisting of various types of rice served with many "side" Or sampler dishes, seafood, meats, fruits and veggies served with a smashing array of delicious sambals, curries, satays. The combinations and variety warranted the 24 little boat shaped dishes we received. Some savory, some sweet, salty spicy. It was like a trip through Indonesian cuisine all on one table. Actually that was the idea. A way for Dutch Masters to sample variety's of special dishes from all parts of Indonesia in sampler size so they could discover all at once what they liked best. The beer was perfect for these diverse and potently clean palette popping Nasi Padongs. And we had many. We were pretty stuffed even though each had no more that a bite or two in each boat. The waiter did explain what's in each dish but buy the 10th you pretty much forget and are AMF-YOYO. So for us it was fun trying to determine what was what. My favorite item was the cucumber salad (perhaps because my first Live thing since being in Europe) and the braised beef dish. It had Star Anise, lemon grass a hint of coconut milk, soy and sugar that created a deep glaze coating each of the cubes of meat in crunchy shell. That one I'll have to try to recreate at home! And yep there is an elegant cook book available to purchase. Unfortunately at this point only in Dutch. English being worked on. This was certainly one of the highlights thus far in our 4 country beer influenced trek through Europe. And who knew we'd discover a new beer from Indonesia!

Yelp
Decided to order in with hopes of getting the full experience, and we did from the safety of our hotel overlooking the canals. Food arrived compliments of Uber eats and was tasty. It was flavorful and rich with spices and hints of heat. Paired with our own South African red and white wine, this dinner was wonderful. Hope to dine in and have the real experience. Would recommended ! Yum. We ordered Rijsttafel Vlees/Vis 2 personen.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
Sorry this was a major disappointment. With the reviews I read from multiple sources we were really excited to try this restaurant. We had a reservation. The service was curt at best. We had to ask for an explanation of the menu. We ordered the fish tasting menu. All the food comes at once. The rice was not hot. The flavors just weren't anything spectacular. Shrimp slightly over cooked. Maybe if you order off the regular menu it would be better. I will say that they do a really good job with the menu telling you what's in each dish so that you can avoid any allergies.
google avatar

LaKenya J.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant back in 2019 and the food was exceptional. I had the Rijsttafel and it was amazing and plenty to eat. I just went back to Amsterdam and wanted to eat here again but was unable to make reservations due to them being so busy. I do recommend.
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
If Indonesian Rijsttafel (rice table) is what you seek, then Blauw is the call. The only call. Don't waste your time on anything else. I could go on about the 25 dishes or so that we tried, but to be honest, there is no point, it's all great. The menu is broken down to order Rijsttafel or al la carte. Order the first one on the list of three, or the vegetarian one if you must. There is also a fish intensive, but it's pretty advanced. I don't recommend it for first timers. Many "exotic" flavors to challenge and delight your palate. You just got to trust them. I really loved the goat sate, gado gado, beef ten dang, chili rice, and if you like spicy, get the spicy fried rice. Also worth mentioning is the special super hot, made in house sambal which will rock you.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Went here with a friend to check out the rice table after reading so many great reviews about it--we opted for the meat version of the rice table. I can't even tell you how many dishes they brought out, but the whole table was covered. Even more impressive, I don't think that there was a single dish that we did not enjoy--everything was delicious! This is definitely a must if you are in Amsterdam and a great date night spot.

Yelp
Very nice experience, we had dinner in the gardens and it was really nice. The restaurant is quite expensive & they serve gourmet food. The wine selection its ok. Muy linda experiencia, cenamos en los jardines y fue hermoso. El restaurante es un poco caro y la comida es gourmet. La oferta de vinos esta ok.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Owner is a rude little twerp who scolded me the second we walked in the door because our reservation went from 6 to 4 last minute. It's also way out of the way and inconvenient. Not worth the hype. Mediocre food.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
We went here on a recommendation of a work friend. It was a little far outside of the town center but easily accessible by tram. Thank goodness they let you share a rice meal for an extra cost. We did the meats and if we weren't to full we were going to try the fish. So much food and a little taste of everything was yummy. We could only find room for the meats. Only downfall was the beef and pork were a little over cooked which made the meat tough.
google avatar

Gianguido G.

Yelp
Great place for a great Indonesian rice table. It is quite small so you'd better book in advance. Not really touristic, despite the position. Service is excellent and so is the food. Go for the full blast rice table lot of great different dishes in moderate portions. You will fill great!!

Judith B.

Yelp
Best Indonesian food I've ever had! It's definitely the place to go!

Yelp
Indonesian cuisine is a local specialty in Amsterdam, so if you're visiting, you definitely want to make sure you get some while you're here. It's off the beaten path a little to be sure, so if you're not venturing very far from Amsterdam Central, you might miss it, but if you find yourself near Vondelpark its right on the outskirts. They have a small and upscale space and you're going to want to make a reservation. We happened to be there right as the doors opened for the night at 6pm and were seated under the condition that we give up our table for another party coming in at 8pm. I definitely wouldn't advise rushing through your meal here, but that was more than enough time for us. The service was fine and the staff spoke English with us. I highly recommend ordering the rice table, which is the traditional way the food is served. You can order meat, fish, or vegetarian, but you must order at least one per person. Expect to be overwhelmed with small plates when they serve you. The flavors are all great and compliment each other well, but it was a lot to handle and our group of five had trouble finishing everything. This is probably the closest I've ever had to authentic Indonesian cuisine so I don't have any basis for comparison, but everything here was fantastic.

Yelp
Amsterdam is known for its Indonesian food... and let me tell you this, Restaurant Blauw does NOT disappoint! What I love about trying out new foods... you go with a whole group of people and share the food. Woohoo! Yelp
A great spot for Indonesian food, my friend has taken every visitor here. The restaurant is dark, smaller, and trendy. Recommend reservations here as people take quite awhile to finish their meal here. Greeted with some fried chip things with a sweet and sour sauce and a very spicy sambal type of sauce. For the rice table, you get a variety of dishes that are about 15 in total. Veggie dishes, salads, dried coconut, beef, pork, and fish dishes! A one person serving is more than plenty for 2, but they charge an additional 10 euros if you share, so we ordered the pork belly entree to share and eventually take home. In the middle of the table, there is a little heated area for the meats to stay warm. Just some of the things that were included was a fried rice, regular rice, spicy fish, goat, but my favorite was the gado gado (salad that almost reminded me of a spring roll without the shrimp and pork) and the boiled egg dish. Unfortunately the meat was really overcooked and dry. The goat was much better than I thought, especially since I don't care for it normally. The chicken skewers were nice as well. Was stuffed but we didn't even finish all the various dishes, and barely made a dent in the pork belly (cooked beautifully but the sauce was a little too salty). I love how they provide free still water, and drank way too much from the spiciness. Had a very nice helping of wine as well. For dessert, I had the fried mango with passion fruit ice cream, amazing!!!!! So different but two of my favorite things put together wonderfully. Service is very pleasant here too, although the server never got our jackets as we had requested so we got it ourselves. Prices are very fair as well. Overall a great experience and located very conveniently close to my friend's home.

Yelp
Before coming to Amsterdam for holiday, I researched many places to take my daughter for her birthday dinner and Blauw seemed like a great choice. We booked an on line reservation and noted that I was allergic to shellfish and broccoli. Our reservation was this evening, Monday, September 2nd at 6pm. When we arrived, I reminded the man who greeted us about the allergies. He showed us to our table upstairs and proceeded to tell the server of the allergies. The response the server gave back sounded sarcastic, however, I don't know what was said. So, we ordered the meat and vegetables, rice plates, and again I asked if there was any shellfish in any of the small dishes. Because of my Asian descent, I am aware that shellfish is sometimes used in sauces and broths. He did like a scoff/ laugh at me and said there was no shellfish. My daughter did not like his sarcasm he used and wanted to leave. Unfortunately, we stayed. Around five to ten minutes later, he walks on the side of our table and breaks a wine glass and it drops to the floor. His only comment was "that was weird". He left to get something to sweep the glass up and at that point he said "oh, don't eat the hot sauce because there is shrimp paste in it." Really?? The hot sauce was on the table when we sat down and now twenty minutes later you let me know??? We heard him downstairs talking with another person and my daughter and I felt like our server was talking about us and the guy he was talking to, told him, he was an a**hole. I don't know if they know, but we could hear conversations from downstairs because we were at the first table closest to the stairs. A different man helped bring up the plates and our server was behind him with the rest. I asked the other man if there was any shellfish (because I didn't trust my server). My server started to scoff/laugh at me behind my back, while the other man assured me there wasn't any shellfish. After they left the table, we had a very bad taste in our mouth because of the disrespectful, sarcastic server. My daughter cancelled her dessert order right after we took our first bites of our meal. All we could do was quickly eat our meal, almost all in silence, so we could pay and leave. I feel really bad because my daughters birthday dinner was completely ruined by a server that could've made a memorable experience for her here in Amsterdam. I have been apologizing to her left and right, saying I never should have taken her to Blauw. We never should have taken the trip down south of Amsterdams Center to be disrespected like this!

Yelp
The rice table is amazing. You can order different options to share with friends (eg meat, seafood, veggie). There were too many dishes for me to remember and comment on specific ones, but we were all stuffed and content that night. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
We came here around 8 on a Monday night after a lovely walk through the Vondelpark. We had to try a rice plate place (think Indonesian tapas), and this was appeared to be best-in-class. We got the chef's choice plate, which included a drink for each person (wine or beer), a starter, the full fleet of small plates (12-20 or so?), and a dessert plate, also of the chef's choice, for 47 Euro/person. The appetizer- amazing! The Sambal sauces here are S-tier, and if you can handle the spiciest variant, I recommend slathering most of your dishes in it- you won't regret it! The rice plate dishes- mostly good. There were a few outstanding ones, which were the rendang curry beef, and the fried rice. None were bad, but there were some that were just kinda "meh," but we just dipped them in the amazing Sambal sauce to kick it up a notch. Dessert- Dear lord, this is where this place really comes through. The Pandan Ice Cream was one of the best desserts/ice creams I've ever had, and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. The Mango ice cream was also the best Mango Ice Cream I've ever had. My wife loved the Durian parfait, although both that and the mango ice cream were a little on the sweet side. Overall if we came back, we would probably order the beef rendang, fried rice, and the desserts, but I certainly don't regret trying the variety platter! Would never have discovered Pandan ice cream without it! The only downside here was that service was a bit slow, and it took us nearly 2 hours to finish our meal here due to slow delivery of dishes, and the check, which we had to ask for twice.

Yelp
By far, the worst meal I had during my week in the Netherlands. After watching Anthony Bourdain hype Dutch-Indonesian food, I was excited to try this fusion cuisine. They seated us even though we didn't have a reservation. After a short wait, the waiter brings over the menu and asks us what we want to drink. Having literally been just given the menu, my husband responds, "We'll start with some tap water." The waiter then rudely says, "I need you to order a real drink, not just tap water. Otherwise I'll charge you for the water." Ok sir, perhaps if you had given us a minute to review the menu you just put in our hands, we could order something! Following everyone else's photos and other customers' orders, we went with the meat ricetable - a smorgasbord of small tapas-style dishes. It came within 2 minutes - faster than our wine and beer. The fact that it was that fast means none of it was likely made to order nor fresh, which could be legit, given a lot of the dishes were stewed. But everything was not legit nor was it good. At all. Even the rice was dry, stale - like they had made a huge pot days ago and were giving us the leftovers. All of the meats - from the chicken and goat satay to the beef - were so tough and dry. The meatball was dry and gristly. The fried fish was so salty I could barely even swallow a single bite. Everything was one note, with a liberal use of salt to cover up their mediocrity. Do not come here, you will be cheated and disappointed, unless over salted, dry and stale is what you're looking for.

Yelp
So so so much hype. Maybe I'll save some tourists some money and tell you not to buy into whatever travel shows or guides or reviews say. It seemed like the famous rice tables came with a lot of dishes. What we had were really a dishwasher's nightmare - many small shallow dishes of food: Dry meat in sauce Salty meat in sauce Shrimp in salty sauce Shrimp in spicy sauce Fried fish with sauce Dry chicken with sauce Dry burnt meatball Rice Different rice Pickled cucumbers Steamed veggies Some chopped string beans Fried bananas An egg in some sauce Potatoes Bean sprouts with tofu Coconut crumbs with sugar Curry over some fried dry meat or fish - couldn't tell The flavors were okay. The service was okay. It was something recommended by all the guides and reviews...but not nearly as satisfying as a simple chicken rice plate at a Chinese fast food place or a bowl of pho that's 1/3 of the price.

Yelp
Pictures says it all, I recommend the set menu, with appetizers, mixed rice table and dessert. I've been to Bali and this food is spot on similar to Bali. Gregory's culture in Amsterdam to have such fusion in foods.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our rice table meal for two. We loved the satay, especially the goat, as well as multiple other dishes. Flavor variety was great and we did not think the food was sugary as another reviewer stated. Service was good and very friendly. Accommodated allergies without a hitch.

Yelp
The food here is flavorful and the side dishes that you get with your meal are fun additions to the experience. The desserts are delicious, too. However, the service that we received from the waitress who took our order was incredibly rude and subpar. We've been greeted with such wonderful Dutch hospitality on our entire trip and this waitress treated us like we were second class citizens. "What do you want to order," she states and not questions. Our other servers were cheerful and helpful so I want to give credit where it is due. If you encounter the one with short, blond hair though, give 'er hell.

Yelp
Did a 3 week Europe trip and this was my favorite restaurant of the whole trip. I love having variety in my food so ordering the combo with 30 small dishes was like a dream come true. Everything tasted so amazing that I kept going even after I was full. I think I liked the fish one better than the meat one so I'd recommend seafood if you can eat it.
