"Occupying a boutique hotel tucked away in the city’s Gothic Quarter, the Contraban boasts a plush, somewhat secretive ambience. Its contemporary-style cooking, which it describes as being inspired by emotions and feelings (freedom, surprise, longing etc), is based around classical French cuisine. Make sure you visit the panoramic rooftop for its impressive views and its extensive array of tapas and cocktails." - Michelin Inspector

Speakeasy atmosphere with delicious food and attentive service. The draw of Contraban is the atmosphere: wow, what a space! Dark, moody, blissfully comfortable: the restaurant evokes ideas of a godfather-esque scene with reds and blacks, velvet, and an in-space wetbar. I feel like I could just sit and chat for hours and listen to rotating jazz musicians. When I wasn't soaking in the surroundings I was eating delicious food. The octopus is wonderful, some of the most tender and flavorful I have had. The suction cups were crispy and the accompaniments were complimentary. My friends meals were similarly delicious. The desserts were also good, though not quite as good. Cheesecake was lacking something (salt?). The drinks were also good, but too expensive in my opinion. €16 for a non-alcoholic mixed drink? 🤷‍♂️ Overall I would definitely return and try something else, possibly the tasting menu!

Warm and fuzzy atmosphere, perfect for Christmas dinner. Staff is very attentive, food delicious, the only remark I have that both main courses from tasting menu were not hot enough. Other than that all was great!

Contraban is one of those rare restaurants in Barcelona where the atmosphere alone sets the tone for the night. Hidden inside the Wittmore Hotel in the Gothic Quarter, the space is intimate, dimly lit and beautifully designed — velvet textures, warm lamps, and a quiet, almost secretive mood that makes dinner feel like an experience rather than a stop. The menu is creative but not pretentious. Dishes lean Mediterranean with modern touches, and everything arrives with precision — thoughtful combinations, balanced flavours, and a clear focus on quality ingredients. Portions are refined, not oversized, which fits the style of the place perfectly. Service is polished and discreet, the kind that gives you space but never disappears when you need something. It matches the tone of the restaurant well. If you’re looking for a dinner that feels intimate, elegant, and slightly hidden from the noise of the city, Contraban is one of the best choices in the Gothic Quarter.

Food is delicious, staff & service is excellent and lovely atmosphere. I stayed in Wittmore Hotel and had all of my breakfasts here! I loved the golden crystal Avocado and their scrambled eggs with veggie was good. The fruit salad was the queen. I had dinner once, tried the veal with baked potatoes and ginger carrots with crispy rice. Both were extraordinary delicious! The staff were very attentive, positive and friendly. You guys were amazing! The atmosphere is very relaxing, chill and elegant. There’s an outdoor area that I really enjoyed and had all my food at. The restaurant is on Michelin Guide and highly recommended for lunch or dinner!!

Lovely dinner with my wife and daughter. As my rating reflects, everything was very good, highly recommend. We had the hummus & vegetable, duck croquette, flatbread with vegetables and autumn mushrooms, rice casserole with pigeon and macaroni with iberian pork. Pict is rice with pigeon

Har an excellent meal here with my husband! It was a bit difficult to find at first - but when we did…wow! The whole atmosphere is just amazing and you get drawn in immediately. The waiters were very sweet and nice, and the food INCREDIBLE! The star of the show for us was this brioche with spider crab - and we highly recommend it even though the whole meal was fantastic!

I came here for my birthday. The service was amazing from the very start. They assisted us with our coats at the entrance. We were allowed to choose a table of our choice. The restaurant is super cozy. They have a chimney and nice soft music. The room is a bit dark which is so relaxing. They explain every dish to you which is so nice. I really enjoyed and l highly recommend.

A beautiful experience enjoying drinks in the lounge during our stay—exquisite decor and great music created a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant food wasn’t spectacular, but still worth a visit even if you're not staying at the hotel.
