First-Time Visit This was my first time visiting Restaurant Depot, and unfortunately, it left a very negative impression. I was there completing an Instacart order as part of my part-time job and was genuinely interested in returning in the future. However, my experience quickly changed after interacting with an employee named Gloria. From the start, she was extremely rude and unprofessional. As a first-time customer, I was not familiar with how larger, bulk items are handled. Instead of explaining the process clearly and respectfully, she became impatient, spoke to me rudely, and began yelling when I didn’t immediately understand. No one deserves to be talked to that way especially not a customer who is new and simply asking questions. Her behavior was embarrassing and unnecessary. She assumed I should already know how everything worked, even though I had only one item and was unfamiliar with the store’s bulk purchasing process. I also waited in a long line without being informed properly, which added to the frustration. Customer service should involve patience, professionalism, and respect. Unfortunately, Gloria showed none of those qualities. With her nasty attitude, I do not believe she should be working in a customer-facing role. This experience completely overshadowed what could have been a positive first visit.

Excellent selection and prices! DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE LITTLE PATIENCE! You may have to wait in a line. The carts are sometimes wonky. There are fork lifts speeding around everywhere so you gotta watch out! Only wear one ear bud so you don’t get kilt by one. Otherwise I love this place 😇 it’s part of the charm / embrace and appreciate the chaos of it !!!!

This was my third Restaurant Depot stop today. I only had three pallets left. I checked in at 11:50 AM — two doors were wide open, plenty of staff inside doing nothing, just standing around and talking while drivers waited. They asked me when my appointment was. I showed the broker’s info: 8 AM – 2 PM. They said the broker “lied,” checked their own system, first claimed I wasn’t on the list at all, then — after looking again — suddenly decided it was 3 PM. If they themselves can’t understand their own schedule, how is a driver supposed to? The manager wouldn’t even speak to me — rude, dismissive, zero respect. These are some of the worst people I’ve dealt with at a warehouse. Basic courtesy and professionalism don’t exist here. They seriously need to optimize their internal process and make simple respect and communication a rule, not an exception. One of the worst experiences in my entire driving career.

Had 10am appointment. I arrived at 9am. I spent 25 hours here waiting to get unloaded. Yes. You read that correctly. I did not get out of here until the next morning! The line for trucks was backed up all the way around the back of the building, all the way down the side of the building, all the way down the front of the building and all the way down the street and even to the intersection. IF YOU ARE IN LINE, DO NOT JUST SIT THERE, GET OUT, AND TAKE YOUR PAPERWORK INSIDE AND CHECK IN WHILE WAITING IN LINE!!!! The receiving department DOES NOT, I REPEAT, DOES NOT GO IN ORDER OF WHO IS IN LINE!!!! GET OUT, GO WALK AND CHECK IN, THEY WILL CALL YOU AND YOU CAN SKIP THE LINE AND GO TO A DOOR. If you can get here the night before, do it. So many trucks coming in and out that the line gets blocked up with trucks trying to come in and trucks trying to get out. All while 4 wheelers zooming through the parking lot around you. Call your dispatch or broker and tell them to cancel the next load. You won't be going to get that any time soon. May God or whoever or whatever you believe in, help you. Good luck.

Google
I have a half a load of onions for their Alexandria store and half a load of onions for their Baltimore store. Though, I’ve been here since 2am I won’t be able to make both stops today. That’s jumping over dollars to pick up pennies. They’re expanding this place and they can’t handle their current deliveries. When Tyson is three hours past their appt I don’t feel so bad. They can’t even treat one the biggest suppliers of protein right. Might as well Uber down and be a tourist for a day in DC.

Giovanny R.

Google
Worst Restaurant Depot location for deliveries I arrived at 9:00 a.m. for a 12:00 p.m. appointment, trying to be early and respectful of the schedule. Unfortunately, this turned into one of the worst delivery experiences I’ve had. 5 pm and still waiting for a door. The receiving department is extremely disorganized, slow, and unprofessional. There is no clear communication, no respect for drivers’ time, and no proper system to manage appointments. Drivers wait for hours with no updates or explanations. After reading many other reviews, it’s clear this is not an isolated issue. A lot of drivers are reporting the same problems over and over again. Management seriously needs to review and improve the receiving department. Truck drivers are essential to your operation, and the lack of respect and poor service is unacceptable. Very disappointing experience. I do not recommend this location for truck deliveries.

R E.

Google
My dispatch didn’t give me the appointment time. I got here the night before. Stay to parking on the right, I had to move. That’s my fault for parking wrong. But it’s a good thing they woke me up because I thought check in was when they opened at 6, turns out, deliveries can check in at 5am. They were nice to me, so anything after this point is up to fate. Lol if I have to wait to get in a door 🤷‍♀️. No reason to get upset about it. I did all I could to get here. As long as ppl are nice when u get to where you’re going, what else can u do?

Munir N.

Google
Worst restaurant Depot location ever for trucks delivery for real. No respect for drivers time

Yelp
So..... I slid in here today with a 1-day membership pass to check the joint out for the first time in...well... forever. It's everything I expected from food, to cleaning supplies, to culinary wear to you name it. I saw roasts the size of a small car's backseat. Just ginormous! It's a culinary and food prep paradise. All SUPER BULK sizes and prices to match. Turns out you can get in here with any kind of business and a tax ID number that's current... Or just the 1-day pass like I had. Could be roofing, non-profit, medical or whatever kind of business you have. I came by to check out some gyro meat, some desserts and a few other perishables. Spent about 20 minutes inside and enjoyed myself exploring real quick. I'll definitely be back to get that giant box of gyro meat lol. Parking is modest on- site. Cold as hell in the freezer department for sure.

Yelp
Months ago I went to RD and bought 2lbs of provolone. It said it was some price that I can't remember now but when I went to the register, the lady charged me around $60 which was a lot over whatever price I saw on the sign. Now I found that I could get it on Instacart and the price was $64 for 10 pounds. There was another option for the same brand but the packaging looks different and the price is less per pound so I figured that must be something completely different. I ordered the 10 pounds for $64 and received four blocks. so basically the lady charged me for four even though I only purchased one block. I don't know why she didn't tell me that I can go get three more or if there's a minimum amount she could have explained that to me. I'm just really upset right now that I got a quarter of what I paid for last time. I don't understand how she just let that happen.

Alec M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this location for years, and I understand it's a working warehouse where not everyone may be the friendliest. However, the cashier, Glenda, on March 15 at 12:50 PM, treated me very unprofessionally. By far the worst cashier experience I've had.

Yelp
Bottom Line: A cluttered and chaotic store selling restaurant supplies and wholesale ingredients to its members. My husband and I were curious about the Restaurant Depot so we stopped in on a Saturday morning. The store is 1/2 restaurant supplies and 1/2 wholesale ingredients including produce, meats, spices, condiments, etc. On a Saturday morning the store was very busy with hurried shoppers and lots of forklifts. The aisles felt kind of cramped and especially when passing someone with another cart. My husband and I pursued the aisles but not wanting to be in the way of small business owners trying to get their business done we didn't linger too long. We did stay long enough to check out some of the prices and the items we looked at were more than we currently play at our BJs and Costco clubs. Overall, I didn't find the prices to be very competitive. But, unlike BJs and Costco there is not a membership fee. Membership is only open to businesses and you must present your business license to get My barometer for restaurant supply stores is The Restaurant Store in Baltimore which is pristinely organized so I was surprised by state of the Restaurant Depot. My husband and I felt lucky that we successfully dodged all of the fork lifts and survived the parking lot.

Yelp
They have product everywhere you can barely get down the isles. Then it's isles closed cause they restocking in the middle of the day so if you need something from that isle you can't even get it. the people that work there running people over on the forklifts and rushing customers to shop so they can finish stocking. like why stock during business hours when the store is full of customers!?
google avatar

Rebecca F.

Yelp
This is a membership only wholesale warehouse for restaurants and we came to pick up a few items today. It is a decent size and has a good selection of equipment, supplies, dry goods, canned/jarred goods, and fresh & frozen food products such as meats, produce etc. The two gentleman working in the refrigerated produce section today were very helpful and gracious & that is not always the case. The lines today, a Thursday afternoon, were long as they did not have enough registers open. Our cashier was very nice today as well, which is also not always the case. So today was great but like Forrest Gump says " you never know what you're gonna get" lol.

Critic O.

Yelp
Extremely rude staff. One lady at the front spoke to me as I was a thief trying to steal $72. Worst part is I was humiliated in front of my daughter. Been coming to this place for years and the only one time I had to return an item, it escalated to a very unpleasant experience. And this could easily be avoided if the business has a better return process. It is very clear that the employees are very unhappy and they pass on their misery to the customers.

Yelp
This is a chef's or bakers Disneyland . . . or Ikea . . . or umm . . happy place (insert desired metaphor). One tip - you need a membership to shop. The process seemed long (watching others bring in mountains of paperwork and filling out documents) but if you own a restaurant/small business, or like to cook it will be worth it. You should visit their website for membership details. I was able to shop because, for a limited time, they're open to the public. Go to the desk and show your driver's license to get your one-day pass. Back to the shopping experience - what can you NOT get from here? In one trip I purchased raw croissant dough, 2 pizza sheets, 100 ct snickers creamer packets, bartending supplies, mixing bowl scrapers, texas toast, pastry hooks, more bread, eggs, and fancy condiments and I barely spent $50!

Yelp
I prefer the Alexandria brand way better. It had more variety of products and customer service is great. They never fail to help when I need it. Highly recommend

Yelp
12 bars of kind bars for $18.88! You have to be kidding! It's cheaper to buy at Target! LOL

Yelp
I came in town to help my uncle out with inventory for his shop and he sent me to this Restaurant depot. I am very familiar with the one in my town but my god have I never seen a wreck of a supply store. It smells horrible the moment I walked in. Says a lot about a place if the onions were 4 isles down and you could still smell it. As I am walking down the isle looking for the items I need, I thought I was Cinderella for a second because I kid you not there was a f****** bird that flew next to me. We made eye contact and for a brief second I thought I was at the park. Even if I was at the park it would be easier to find a bench or a playground right? Well unfortunately everything was so disorganized I couldn't find anything I needed. Most supply stores have examples of containers of different sizes on display to know what I am getting but of course all i saw was that bird again. When I asked for help from the attendants they did not navigate me anywhere but just point directions left and right. I couldn't tell if I was just blind or they were out of stock of the items I was looking for. Do better. This is a restaurant supply store not a wet market.

Yelp
This company are millionaires because they overcharged everything the oil for frying on cosco $37 on here $47 The foil on cosco $25 on here $48 They take benefit from restaurant if you don't want to be on bankruptcy Buying on this company fine other please to buy

Vincent C.

Yelp
Even with the day pass, you can save a ton of money! Quality is excellent and you can't beat the prices. We formed a buying group with 4 (four) families and we buy and share.

Yelp
VA (Eisenhower Ave) RD is the best one in the DMV area. Attentive, responsive, knowledgeable and helpful employees in all departments from the managers to stock people. I recommend this above all other stores in DC area!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Had an opportunity to utilize restaurant depot and grab some meat in bulk. The store is set up in a warehouse style (Costco, Sam's club etc). The most interesting, and the whole reason I was there was the meat section. It is, literally, a huge cooler that you can walk into. Deli meat, eggs, bulk beef, while chickens, you name it. The pricing on the shelves is a little disorganized (or was) where the prices were not on the meat, and instead, the per pound price was listed on the wall next to or behind the meat. Check out was easy and quick. Variety, clarity of pricing (and store organization) lead to a lower score. If you need bulk meat, it's an alternative or Wal Mart or LA Mart, however I would likely opt with Costco over resturtant depot.
google avatar

Se C.

Yelp
Messy place, things are just everywhere and not organized well. The price for some things are better at Costco. However, most of the items here are cheaper and more in bulk. It isn't clean here at all. This place just doesn't look or smell sanitary. The carts are loud, but they still roll. Business owners can make an account and have two cards.

Mare A.

Yelp
This store needs some serious work. There isn't any carts, parking and lines for the cashier takes at least 30 minutes. I wait in line longer than I shop, no matter what time it is it will take you at least 30-45 minutes. I hope they get more cashiers because this isn't acceptable
google avatar

Khalid K.

Yelp
The place is huge whatever need is there I like the seafood very fresh never been disappointed The halal meat also very good plus very good prices The parking is big enough for every body You need to have a business so you can shop in there.

Karina U.

Yelp
Worst customer service on the phone! I called to ask the time, and it was like asking for a favor. We are open the same time. I said what is that! And the attitude on her voice! The worst! Why do you pick up the phone if you cant be kind.
google avatar

Miriam W.

Yelp
Restaurant Depot is not open to the public so you'll have to wrangle someone in the industry to take you on a visit here. In a way Restaurant Depot is like Costco, but without the pizza, hot dogs and cheap fountain drinks for sale up front. You also won't find any DVDs or flat screen TVs here. However, if you're on the hunt for half a cow (seriously), enough ricotta cheese to feed 1,000 or a modular cube ice maker, this is your spot. A luxurious shopping experience this is not, but for a behind the scenes look at the food service industry, it's pretty eye-opening!
google avatar

Rich G.

Yelp
Phrase of the day: "You'll just have to get used to where things are." Think of Restaurant Depot this way- it's like Costco or SAMs Club designed for restaurant owners, chefs and other folks who want to walk through aisles of products without a map and few employees to ask for help. Now while that might seem harsh or disconcerting- it isn't. There are maps available to show you where the 40lb box of frozen chicken is located (and at a great price I might add) and where you can find that 25lb block of Belgian milk chocolate (or you could just ask me- that was a choice find!) My suggestion is to walk through and price things out. If you need 1000 8oz paper coffee cups- this is your place. If you're more of the 3 kilo barrel of kalamata olives guy- they have you covered there too. And with many different varieties of each kind of product you can choose a generic brand of anything or something in a name brand you recognize. There is also a discounted goods section over near the restrooms sign at the right of the check out registers. I got a case of 24oz cans of Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng & Honey there for $13.50. One can had been damaged- but the price was great for 23 intact cans. if you venture into the freezer section they have coats available to wear on pegs right outside the entrances of the freezer rooms. Just replace them when you exit. Walk in and check it out- ask for a map or throw caution to the wind and walk the aisles. It works for me!
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
This place was really interesting to check out - any business owners can apply for a free membership and you can purchase food, equipment, and supplies. You can buy single items or supplies for dinner, or bulk and tableware for parties and events. I especially love going into the freezer section (during the summer months) as it is cold cold cold :D There are industry-quality mixers, gas ranges, natural gas fryers, menu boards, janitorial supplies, cutlery, and even condiment holders. It's cool to wander around and such. It's surprising that they have locations in 27 states, and they're considered one of the largest online restaurant suppliers. +membership required

Katie N.

Yelp
I came here to open the purchase card, the Spanish woman is very teaching, the director must review her service. I didn't understand and I asked for guidance why cursed me
google avatar

Jorge S.

Yelp
Placed an order which was confirmed for delivery 2 (!) weeks later. After 2 weeks exactly at the time of delivery it was cancelled. Terrible service, never again !

Joanne Y.

Yelp
I contacted the customer service today because they charged me retail sales tax although I have a membership and business license. None of my business friends got charged for MD tax from Restaurant Depot. I, as small business runner for 5 years, never had been charged for sales tax from Sams club or Cash carry . I can't believe why your employees charged me taxes for so many years. I checked Maryland comptroller tax department website, then I found that I shouldn't get charged for sales tax. Please clear this issue for me. Thanks

Lucy C.

Yelp
Price is ok I know everything goin up!! But a like to buy some of my groceries in they

Heidi C.

Yelp

Yelp
For the Truckers this is the not Good place to come for delivery coz workers are not friendly and they don't take a load on time at least after appointment time trucker have to wait 6 to 7 hrs for delivery specially for the single owner operator i will not preferred to take a load for this Alexander,VA location. I will never come back again
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
The people who frequent Restaurant Depot are mostly from restaurants or chefs or some sort hospitality business, people who work in the industry and require a business tax ID to qualify for membership. It's a no fuss place not meant for enjoyment. I would not say it is as spectacular as Rungis but it's the place to buy supplies for food business with the incentive of tax-free sale. The depot is based out of a warehouse everything is stored in warehouse type racks some requiring the forklift. Food and kitchen supplies are sold in wholesale quantity and price. For the higher end like buying 100 scallops in a tin can, a whole mortadella or even a whole lamb. Wholesale ranges from vegetables to eggs to dairy products. The industrial grade equipments are not the highest quality but are probably more affordable for small businesses.
google avatar

Mlle B.

Yelp
The walk-in cooler is the size of Delaware. Bring a coat if you plan to spend more than a few minutes staring at cheeses as big as bus tires. Restaurant Depot has two kinds of customers: Fast and Slow. The Fast ones have to hustle back to restaurants and stores. They know precisely what to buy and where to find it. I look for them and step aside as a courtesy, and I also watch out for forklifts. As a Slow customer, I love gawking at the huge variety of foods, supplies, and equipment. Where else can you find palletized Nutella or something labeled "whole half goat"? A lot of Restaurant Depot merchandise is packaged in mass quantities, but I find many items in sizes for a small gathering or family. We buy for a concession stand, sporting and school events, and home (family meals and entertaining). Most prices are a true bargain, although it pays to know prices in the other stores you frequent. Some items are sold only by the case, but others by the partial case--read the label. To join Restaurant Depot, you must have a business license. You must check in with a Restaurant Depot card and also use it when checking out. To my knowledge, this place does not offer boxes or bags. They do not accept coupons. The "carts" are big U-boats--not desperately clean--so bring a box if you will be buying lightly packaged foods (the cognoscenti hang their bagged bread or wrapped-up goat from the top bar of the U-boat). When we get back to our vehicle, we transfer items to inexpensive stackable restaurant busing tubs, which we bought at Restaurant Depot. (These containers are fabulous for toting everything everywhere, and I suspect that a preschooler could use one as a sled.) Pots and pans, knives, cutting boards, and many other equipment items here are far less expensive than retail, and often of better quality. If you're buying pots and pans for home, do some research first to make sure they will work on your range and in your oven. Restaurant Depot advertising circulars will help you find bargains and spot merchandise from Laffy Taffy to lobsters. Many items are visible on shelves, but some are on loading pallets overhead. I've had good luck asking employees to help me find things and tell me, say, how many minutes it takes an electric urn to boil 100 cups of water for hot chocolate. And finally: if you worry about earthquakes, do not look up and think about the amount of stuff on the shelves.

Patricia P.

Yelp
Love this place found the staff to be very helpful. Prices were great and the selection fantastic. I did not find any of the complaints that I saw in other reviews to be true. Yes it is a little messy but you have to look at the size of the operation. You can get in and out quickly and love the opportunity buys.
google avatar

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
This place is a large warehouse with food, cleaning supplies, and kitchen supplies to purchase. However, you must have a membership to purchase. Similar to a Costco or BJ's but the quantity is a lot more. The carts were big and bulky to push around. Especially when the employees were constantly moving the items on the crates around with the fork lifter. The warehouse is big but I kept feeling like I was in the way of everyone. It was a cool place!

Jenny S.

Yelp
This may be my first review ever on yelp but have to do it. Horrible horrible customer service. It's almost as if they want to discourage people from coming here. Poor customer service ranged from rudeness to apathy to misrepresentation by phone as to how much they had of what I needed. Use Sysco or any other place that actually cares whether you purchase from them. Restaurant business is stressful enough. Don't add to that stress by trying to buy ingredients here.

Donald D.

Yelp
Restaurant Depot is a great place to shop for businesses staff is always been great especially Lamont in the refrigerator section and Jessica on the register never better anywhere

Yelp

Yelp
Beautiful new facility, twice the selection. Same crappy, befuddled slow employees.
google avatar

Dean G.

Yelp
When it comes to price, it is a great spot and essential to my restaurant. When it comes to customer service and being in stock on essential items like parsley, garlic, coke etc, they are a miserable pain in the butt.

Edwin C.

Yelp
Bad collaboration of employees, mainly in the frozen area. zero collaboration and bad character. They don't know anything about customer service.

Paolo C.

Yelp
Very bad service the manager Lisa she's very rude she don't care about costumers service , actually she laugh behind my back when I tell her about the bad service I have received from her.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Made our biannual trip to stock freezer. 1) found only 1 person who spoke English to look for a couple list items 2) cashier made it clear she would rather be anywhere else but there 3) prices are haphazardly placed. Good luck on finding the one you need! 4) tags are vague. Prosciutto sign said 19.99 and package said 6.87#. Register showed over $70!! Didn't say per pound or unit 5) employees whizzed around frozen section and came close to clipping customers 6) half opened packages everywhere 7) the employees not driving maniacally on fork lifts stood talking blocking aisles and cursing you in their language when you move their blocking trolleys 8) parking lot is full of trolleys blocking spaces with none by door for use 9) I won't even go into the inconsideratness of other customers leaving the trolleys blocking aisles, doors and one left trolley blocking main aisle while he shopped down each row! 10) need more than 2 check stands open at 11am!! But good deals if you look but the hassle!
google avatar

Kelvin O.

Yelp
I'm a regular costumer here for long time . The general manger here is not good . He don't know how to take care the regular costumer I spending more than 50.000 dollars here at a month but he tried me really bad not good I not caming back here

Hung P.

Yelp
this cashier was so worsted she did not know how to make price wait too too long so bad
google avatar

Omar A.

Yelp
Convenient, close, better prices than any other food vendor. BUT, you have to pick it up yourself. I'm there 2-3 times a week for my business, besides the occasional non-buisness owners shopping for their home and moving slow motion - you're in and out within a hour. Nice staff if you are friendly

Athena S.

Yelp
Restaurant Depot's ridiculous prices take advantage of small family/minority owned businesses. The facility itself is disorganized and chaotic and the employees are unfriendly and unhelpful, contributing to a lackluster shopping experience. Would not recommend.
google avatar

May F.

Yelp
This is the terrible place to do business, we called for order almost 200 boxes the fresh product, they said they was coming the day after, so they took our credit card information, but the next day they knew that product was going up price, and then they didn't give us. The branch manager was so rude and yelled at us when we asked him why he didn't keep his promises. Wish every body don't have any problem the same us. We will tell all our friend and our family never go there to buy the product from them. It's really bad business.
google avatar

Antoine B.

Yelp
Hey I cant help the fact Im privilege enough to buy in bulk. I'm talking about Louisiana wild caught shrimp for 7.99 lb or whole Lobsters for 6.99lb. These are some of the many benefits you get by being a member of RD. This location is brand spanking new. So everything is fresh and easy to find. RD is like Costco on steroids. There is nothing this places doesn't have trust.

Mark B.

Yelp
This is a good place for bulk food/supplies for your restaurant, business, or community group. The parking lot needs more space and the store is always manic as shoppers with big carts dodge forklifts. But the prices are great, the staff are friendly/helpful and when I needed customer service they were friendly and efficient. We buy a lot of meat here and the quality has always been good.
google avatar

Steven F.

Yelp
I always come here to shop for supplies for the restaurant. Its always stocked up and good quality products!!!
google avatar

AJ W.

Yelp
I voluntarily go here for my business, but rarely buy anything I actually need for work. BULK portions. BBQ sauce in 5 gallon drums, frozen everything, kitchen supplies, pudding by the gallon. The parking lot stinks and I fear for my car and assume I will leave with a new dent/speed hole on my truck somewhere. Could also go without 50 forklifts that seem to follow me around or get in front of me. Like Miriam said, it is closed to the public. You could pull the "my SO/parent/business partner etc already went in" but you need a card to check out.
