Where Can You Get Cheap Kitchen Pantry Organizers? | Eater SF

"I consider Restaurant Depot a big chef warehouse that's now open to the public; it's mostly focused on food but does carry a few storage options, so it's worth checking if you're already buying in bulk." - Becky Duffett

When I had a ministry, Restaurant Depot was one of my go-to places. I used to buy a lot of products there because they offered great deals and high-quality goods that helped stretch every dollar. I especially loved the specials on chicken and meatballs, and their plantain chips and cucumbers quickly became favorites. I always made it a point to check for items that were 50% off or on clearance—you can find some amazing bargains that way. Whether for ministry needs or just stocking up, Restaurant Depot never disappointed!

I'd long been hearing good things about these stores and decided to drive 2 hours to check out one of the locations nearest me, but I was completely underwhelmed. Selection was far less than I'd expected, prices were often not posted or incorrect, the place was dirty and in disarray, and the staff was actively unfriendly. Since this was my first visit, I have no idea whether or not this is common for this location; it sure set a low bar for any future expectations of other locations, though.

Google
Horrible store they’re always out of everything. Everything is in disarray. Customer service is horrible. There’s only a couple of cashiers that have a good attitude. Lines are always long and they never know the prices. They will run you over with the forklifts. The shelves are never stocked. Only two cash registers open the week of Thanksgiving. As a business owner, I will never buy anything from them unless I’m in dire need.

Google
If I could give this place zero stars I would! EVERYBODY THAT WORKS HERE IS RUDE! Majority of the workers don't speak English. One of the workers pushed my cart out of the way twice while I was standing there! I know my review will not stop making people come here because this is the only Restaurant Depot in Jacksonville. I have never been treated so bad in a store in my life! When I went to ask someone who could speak English for help letting him know I couldn't reach something his response was if I had seen someone working over there and I said no. I then told him about how the employee pushed my stuff out the way then he said we'll was it in the way! Wow! Is that how we are treating customers now. This is crazy! I hope I never have to return to this place again!

Google
Horrible place , the store manager is rude and yells at employees like they are below him . There’s a few employees who actually care about customers needs and wants . There’s this one employee that really stood out and helped me out and made sure I was taken good care of her name was Dee the front end manager she was sweet , kind , and very caring. I hate that I don’t see her anymore she was what made that place wanting me to come back . She and I would talk and she would listen with any questions I had and went the extra mile . She needs to come back .

Google
A big warehouse stocked with bulk food items meant for wholesale sale to restaurants. The prices are very competitive. Most, but not all, items are way below the retail price. They also sell some accessories and commercial refrigerators. Dress warmly for the refrigerated section.

Gurkan C.

Google
They should have two separate lines at the register. One for people shopping for their homes, another for people that shop for their work. The people shopping for their house can wait in line all day

Niranya R.

Google
They don’t know how to refund me on a different in price. They charged my card $25.16 when they price they posted is $23.14. I talked to store manager and customer service they both said don’t know how to change prices and don’t know how to refund me on a different. So pretty much I didn’t get a refund. Bummer! Store #411 purchased 07/24/21 so be aware of your purchasing at restaurant depot on every items and on every single days.

Yelp
Wow! I knew this location was going to be special and it surely was! Tons of fresh fish and coastal items. They must do a large volume of business because there were pallets everywhere.
google avatar

Cheryl M.

Yelp
I went there today for the first time to consider joining and was appalled at the filth and complete lack of regard for safety. If the floors have been mopped with the past 2 years I'd be shocked. Absolutely disgustingly filthy! And employees driving forklifts as though no safety standards exist in the world. Run far far away from this place. Seriously. It's disgusting. Yelp does not allow you to write a zero so I had to give them one.

Yelp
This wholesaler is our go to for bulk items we buy every week for church dinners. My husband has a card for church and for his chain restaurants. While he can get delivery from wholesale distribution the depot is where you pick up just a few things on the double deck blue carts or flatbed. Many small restaurants walk around the aisles. If you go avoid the forklifts and wear a jacket in the walk in freezer and cooler.

Yelp
What I liked about this particular Restaurant Depot location is that it was significantly less busy than other Restaurant Depot locations that I have been to. It is in a industrial part of Jacksonville and I had passed by a countless times going to visit a few particular clients. Today I stopped in and found the staff friendly and very little lines. If you know anything about Restaurant Depot, I have found that the lines at the location in Orlando can get rather crazy. Here, there really were no lines. I would definitely recommend a visit to this particular location of Restaurant Depot.
google avatar

Jay G.

Yelp
Cluttered, unfriendly and uncaring employees who are more concerned about talking with each other. Products not properly labeled/missing prices.

Yelp
This one is significantly larger than the ones I've gone to in the past. The location has a very large selection of goods and for those who like to compare the store to a box store, well it isn't close show me the fresh seafood, the produce, everything here is for the restaurant industry. I gave 4 and not 5 stars because this location needs a few things, it could be cleaner, the isles less crowded. I don't imagine a fire marshal has been around here if they had the isles would be cleaner. The entrance isn't a very efficient entry point more of a choke point and when you ask for a replacement or new card it'd be nice if the person at the counter didn't grille you and tell you how many cards you currently have. Pardon me for expanding my business. Why does the person tasked with issuing cards give a hoot? I enjoy coming here for fill in provisions and to stock up as they do have some really good specials. I'd just like to see 3 things, please. 1) cleaner store overall 2) isles clear of stock and safe 3) administrative staff at the front desk that don't think you work for them.

John E.

Yelp
Had to pick 1 star because you cant post 0. Shopped at the Jacksonville store today Saturday. the place was filthy. After checking out the "manager" at the door had the line held up. She was researching something on the computer. After what seemed like 5 minutes I made a comment about moving the line. She exploded at me because she was the BOSS. I asked her if the customer had product issues shouldn't he be at customer service desk instead of the recipe checking station holding up customers trying to leave. She exploded again throwing F-bombs and I asked to see a manager because the way she spoke and cursed me out is no way to treat a customer. If she is going to be in a managerial position then she needs some Managerial training and maybe some anger consulting. Looking forward to the GM's response. Been A Jetro customer since the 70's in Jersey City.

Yelp
Think Costco but much bigger. It's free to sign up but you need the proper documents and license. I'd recommend wearing closed toe shoes and also a jacket because it's really cold in the refrigerated and freezer section, obviously. They use to have a coat box but due to Covid that's no longer available. You can either buy in bulk or just what you need. They have basically everything you would need here if you are running a restaurant from food, clothing, cleaning supplies and equipment. However, they did not have any seafood boil seasoning. They did have oysters(fresh), clams(fresh), shrimp(frozen), crawfish(frozen) and basically everything else. I would highly suggest you check the harvest date on any fresh seafood as half the oysters were open and a quart of the clams were. The ones that we could eat was delicious. The staff is somewhat helpful. We asked where something was and they directed us down the isle that it should be. It wasn't there but the category was correct. Three stars for the dead oysters/clams and mediocre service.

Yelp
This place is the worst. It sucks we don't have a better alternative, or at least one I know about yet. I can't buy enough bulk to get goods from Cisco or another delivery service, so I'm stuck with our Restaurant Depot for anything I can't get at Sam's or Costco. The facilities are horrible, no room, out of stock on the floor with plenty of stock in the racks above, but the biggest thing is the rudeness and bad attitudes of most of the employees and especially management or those at the customer service desk. Whoever the regional manager is of Restaurant Depot is should be fired along with the manager(s) of this location. But, to be honest, this store needs to be closed - ie they need to build a new, bigger location and close this one. Find out the staff that have good attitudes and bring those few with you, everyone else should be axed.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
It was a bit chaotic. But pretty cool to see. Bulk everything you can think of. Cheese, restaurant supplies you name it

Yelp
It's sad they only have one Restaurant Depot in the area and this one is always a Damn mess,Paleta if stuff all over the floors no one to walk around with your caught ,fork lift driving around like crazy trying to get stuff off the floors. They have almost every single idle blocked that it literally becomes amaze in here. You have to go here because you need most of the product. But you ask for help and most are helpful so have an attitude. They look items says it's in the stoa d it's not. Very unorganized. Spoke with a Mgr 3 times and one week for product they said they had we get there 3 days superbly and still no product. There system is a mess they needed to zero it out and start over. Safety issue in that place. Thank you to the one guy forklift driver that went above and Beyoncé us we finally got some product we were looking for that the Mgr said was there but still not all that we were looking for. Get it together Resturant Depot Team. Ps your parking lot has trash and carts everywhere.

Yelp
PROs: Cheap Fresh food and meat Open 7 Days A Week Membership is free. Able to buy items in mass quantities Huge selection of gourmet food to choose from No Minimum Purchase Requirements One- Stop shopping No crazy crowds or long lines CONS: Not open to all of the general public You need a Certificate of Authority (business license) or proof that you represent a non-profit organization to become a member and to purchase items at Restaurant Depot. Restaurant Depot was an interesting adventure. If you are a gourmet glutton, love to cook, or throw parties with great food, this is the place to go. It is also great for people, who love their food fresh and inexpensive. So many things I wanted to buy. My top food to buy was arugula, a peppery leafy green food used in salads. They didn't have it, but I split a large bag of romaine lettuce with a friend and paid $2 for what would have cost me about $5 or more at the grocery or open air market. I almost bought a half gallon of pistachios for $2 and a gigantic box of jalapeno poppers for $30, but I decided to be frugal. Their meat section was very impressive. Good roast beef is usually $8 to $10 a pound. I got it for about $2 a pound there. Turkey can be bought for about 88 cents a pound there too. The butchered whole lambs were delectable, but I have no idea on how to cook a lamb. Too many good things to say about this place. Yelp
actually dangerous. Forklift drivers zoom around forward and backward at high speed without looking. I'm surprised more people aren't squished. I've had many occasions to have to jump out of the way. I've seen ambulances there and wasn't surprised. Management is VERY rude Even saying "so what do you expect me to do about it? It's your problem. Not mine." I'm surprised corporate lets some of this go on.

Annora S.

Yelp
Unfortunately, it always seems like a chaotic mess when shopping here. What's makes it even harder is the fact that I l'y a small percentage of floor workers speak English so navigating is difficult especially if items aren't always in the same spot.
google avatar

Ellen M.

Yelp
Always frustrating to shop here. The aisles are blocked by pallets making it impossible to get around. The fork lift drivers race around at such a high speed its a wonder they don't run over more people. Cashiers are slow and not pleasant. There is no rhyme or reason to the Checkout line which is always long. And even management is rude. Today one told me not to put my car somewhere as he was stocking a shelf, even though the aisle was clearly blocked and I had no place else to go. Another customer had to help got put of the aisle (manager never offered to help), so I left without completing my shopping and will purchase elsewhere.

Nour K.

Yelp
The employees are horrible here. I brand my 9 year old child with me to this place, and he came out being cussed and yelled at by multiple employees for sitting on something. They told him, "get your a$$ off of that!" And called him a bit$$. The employee who yelled at him also told other employees and continued to embarrass him. The service here is horrible. It doesn't take money to be a nice and civilized human being. I am appalled by this. Don't bring your child here.

Yelp
Restaurant Depot is probably the #1 restaurant supplier. It offers great selection and variety of restaurant and catering supplies, food products, and restaurant equipments. It often competes with Sam's Club and Costco, but Restaurant Depot is specifically on foodservice products. This means NO appliances, electronics, toys and games, furniture, auto & tires, jewelry, and the list goes on. That doesn't mean Restaurant Depot is nothing. In fact, it offers fresh, high quality meat and seafood products for an affordable price. Most items are sold in bulk or cases for cheaper price. I'm not a restaurant owner, but I often go here for their fresh vegetables, meat, and seafood. This place has monthly specials for extra savings. Please note that this place is not open to the public. You must own or manage a restaurant, non-profit organization, distribute a foodservice, etc (check their website for more info on membership). If you shop here regularly, then getting a membership is worth it. The service at this place is great! The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is clean and organized. Although they have heavy coats for the cold room, always bring your jacket for the extra warmth! The longer you stay, the colder it gets! Honestly, some people give bad reviews about this place. I've been here many times and never had any problem. I really like how they leave some paper boxes and cartons at the exit. You can actually take some to box your products. Overall, this is a must to-go wholesale food store for not just restaurant owners, but also business owners and non-profit organizers. There are great prices weekly and nothing can beat this place!

Seara D.

Yelp
Good prices good products. Not much customer service!! You have to look for products urself. Prices are not marked properly. You have to go looking for people to give u prices. Needs to get more organized and hire more people to get good services.

Yelp
I know, I know these are rough times right now. BUT what you guys have done is not right for the loyal business customers who are required to have a business license to shop at you establishment is simply and plainly unfair. If you are going to allow non business license customers to shop in the store set aside a specific time i.e. 10am-12pm. Which I and other people I spoke with have no problem with. After the business customers get there shopping done. To have them in the store filling out temp cards, causing congestion , and placing them ahead of business customers is not right.

Gretchen D.

Yelp
The managers in the frontend that oversee the cashiers are so disrespectful it's ridiculous. I quit not to long ago and they were the reason why. Even if I wanted to put up with the lack of breaks, long hours and low pay ...working under them wasn't worth it. The sad part is the guy that runs the store isn't any better. While working there it was like he didn't want to be bothered. Back to the women in the front (not the cashiers) the managers especially the lead older lady is a bully. Those are the words that were told to me on my first day and that was the experience that I had everyday leading to me quitting. I showed nothing but respect and in return I was disrespected, bullied , picked on and filled with anxiety everyday while working there. To the CEO the reason that you have a high turnover rate in that department is not only the work conditions but the people you have overseeing the cashiers. The frontend supervisor-the older lady that checks the receipts and assigns schedules is disrespectful to the staff and the customers. I'm surprised she hasn't been fired yet or worse due to how she carry's on. But hey I guess it's cheaper to keep her until you get sued!!!!! Or worse! My voice didn't matter then so I know it won't matter now but to anyone looking for a job beware. Even the people in the other departments said they were glad that they dogged a bullet because they almost applied to work in the front.

Kathine C.

Yelp
I try to give this an zero star but it will not let me because I give this store an zero is because the cashier over charged us 2 pack of corn starch and we tried to say that but they will not let us talk and they have the worst customer service ever. The man in the front is very disrespectful to use well we tried to return the stuff and do the pay again. The people there can not even do simple math. We have to drive 2 hour to get to this place but this is an mistake coming here.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Worst place to shop on earth. They have one person at a time that can actually help you find what you're looking for. The cashiers are all rude. Do these people not realize customers pay their salaries? I've been to this location numerous times over the past three years and I have never left without being frustrated and annoyed. I try and avoid at all cost and recommend everyone else does the same unless they want their day ruined.

Jason B.

Yelp
This is where negative stars would come in handy. Probably the worst run business in Jacksonville. Always more than a few ailes closed or blocked, always out of inventory (and not just recently when everyone is having supply chain issues), not very clean, staff that doesn't know their inventory or placement, and rude cashiers. It's always a downer when a restaurant depot run is required.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Now I have been going to Restaurant Depot for a few years now. I always find what I want, Need or Desire. All at a good price to. From whole animal to cuts off that animal. I can't wait till I need a whole Lamb, Goat, and Pig. I swear by their whole hogs, they taste so good. I have cooked them many times and they always come out tasting great. I don't know why when I say I want the head nobody argues with me. Now I have gone into RD looking for some Jamaican spices or rubs and they have them. Anything from chef ware to pots an pans to a restaurant sign they have it all. So no matter what your after in the Restaurant world they have it pretty cheap.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
This place rivals that of Sams, Costco, or BJ's Wholesale, however, it is strictly food and food products. No big screen tv's here, only true restaurant quality items. You will be surprised to see the many owners/managers of local restaurants buying their supplies and food here. You can buy fresh seafood, meats, and cheeses as well as vegetables and of course all the dry goods. They sell everything needed to run a restaurant, from the mop buckets to the kitchen ware, to the garbage pails and take out food containers. As a consumer, you have the ability purchase in bulk for a really good rate, or individually for a much higher rate, comparable to the box stores. I mentioned in a tip previously that if you become a member of Kansas City BBQ Society for $25 a year, you will gain access to the Restaurant Depot. Without it, you will have to prove that you have a business license to obtain a pass to enter. I also know that those in the food industry such as school cafeteria workers are allowed to enter on a daily basis after showing identification. If eligible to enter, I'd recommend Restaurant Depot.
google avatar

Pedro S. M.

Yelp
I have been coming here for several years and never thought about checking in so i did recently and i will tell you about this place. I usually come here to buy groceries because we are a large family and when we all get together for dinners or lunch the head count is around 15 people. I buy tomatos for less than a dollar a pound. Roma or round tomatos makes no difference. While at the store at this time of year the price is min of2.50 a pound. Chicken quartes cost around $0.50 a pound. Eggs are very reasonable in price. The selection is very good. Some producys of higher quality than others but is worth the visit if you can use this place. Save between 30 to 80 % on your grocery bill. Staff is always very helpful and ready to help you with any items you need

Jeremy L.

Yelp
I was call to asked them the price of seafood. Customer service is horrible I mean it can't get any worst.

Layla R.

Yelp
We love going here. We love the food, the types they have, the options. But this place has the absolute worst customer service. The employees are so rude, they are not friendly. When we ask a question, they act like they don't know and just move on.

Anita H.

Yelp
This place is dangerous and I dread every trip I have to make there. It is a necessary evil and I wish there was a competitor locally. Most assuredly the food service community would take their business to the competitor. Every aisle is scattered with pallets of stuff and there is usually at least one speeding forklift (driven by an "international" ) on each aisle. The pricing on shelves is frequently out of whack or nowhere to be found. On several occasions I have called before making the drive from the beach to confirm stock. After being told items where in stock, however upon my arrival they were unable to locate said items because they have no clue where they are stored. It feels like I am an inconvenience not a valued customer. If anyone from RD is reading this: I recommend stocking at night and having someone who gives a rip verify that tags on the shelves concur with the items.
google avatar

Owen M.

Yelp
This is the most Unorganized and not cleaned Restaurant Depot that I've ever been to. I've been to Largo, Tampa, and Orlando and I had no problem looking for specific stuff but here in RD Jax it's pretty crazy here.
google avatar

Ryan A.

Yelp
I own a business in town and whenever I'm in between orders or run out of something this is a great backup. The prices are on par with what you can expect for a blk retailer. The food is always fresh and the service is okay. The selection isn't amazing but for the city it's a great go to.

Apple W.

Yelp
RD has a flawed system. They like to decline cards (I have plenty of money!)to rake in the cash. It's a pattern with them. I will not do business there ever again! Truthfully the savings are really not that much. The employees are rude and they don't seem to recognize the customers are why they have a job! Goodbye RD. Forever!
google avatar

Laurie T.

Yelp
If you have a food concession Business or restaurant this is a must go for the prices I have not seen any where come close. You need your Business license, and or EIN to shop here for businesses or if you are a non for profit you can bring in the papers for that to show them. You really can't beat the prices on some of the bulk items.
google avatar

Sum P.

Yelp
It's a great place to get everything you need. Supplies were easy to find. Was experiencing a great shopping until a Fat cashier named Elmin literary throw the receipt at me and turned around when the receipt dropped. Asked him to be more polite but all I got was a mocking smile. That place deserve better employee.

Lakeisha H.

Yelp
First off absolutely the worst customer service.... 90 % of the time they do not have what I need on the shelves... The freezer guys are the worst I've ever experience. I wish there was another company more competitive for business owners to go to. Somehow I don't think this place cares how customers feels because it's the only place like it in this part of Florida....But WebstaurantStore is online with even better prices... it you can wait a couple of days.

LifeOf K.

Yelp
horribly disgusted at witnessing the seafood department manager cursing at 2 women over shrimp! they only wanted to purchased pre packaged shrimp and clearly he had something personal going on at home! horrible man. other managers did nothing!

Joan A.

Yelp
We were there about two weeks ago. We were very disappointed. Their prices are definitely not discounted. The place is not clean. They have big forklifts moving items off very high places and if you are not careful you could be run over. Definitely not what I expected. And from what I was told the ones in New York only cater to restaurant owners. Did not look that way to me.

Stone J.

Yelp
Word of advice to all take somebody familiar with this place, bilingual, or to help you out. My first experience was horrible. Majority of the people working there don't speak English and the few I encountered were working as cashiers or front counter. Then the workers were driving the forklifts recklessly through the isles while people try to shop. I spoke with a manager, regretfully I didn't get his name. I told him I needed help finding product on the floor and he really didn't want to get off his lazy butt to help. He just sat there and told me they are really under staffed like that's my problem. He did allow a lady to help me but she spoke negatively of the person that normally shop there instead of me. She scanned my card and said "oh when he come here I try hard to dodge checking him out. When he shop he get a whole lot of stuff and it be everywhere" I was so thankful for her help I wanted to tip her because she helped me find everything. However, hearing how she talked about my friend wasn't nice considering people spending money there keeps them in business. Anyone expecting to shop here beware it's chaotic, under staffed, with foreigners working who can hardly understand English.
