Food is top notch, however expect to wait between courses. Staff are nice and helpful. Price is reasonable. But be aware there is no kid’s menu but it’s kid’s friendly.

The food is well cook but not cutting edge. The veal is seasoned properly. The beetroot soup is tasty. In general the taste is straightforward with not many layers. The meal is a bit too pricey. The service is ok but it can be on a slow side. Waiting between dishes can be very tedious and annoying. The atmosphere is a bit feminine side. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of ventilation and windows.

On an evening when the weather is nice, there is no better place to be than a table at Restaurant Derrière! They have three sizes of fixed menus: we had the six courses and four glass wine pairing. (We did not get the wagyu beef upgrade). The food was wonderful: small portions created with great care. The wines were also great. They were mostly from nearby vineyards. Our table was outside on the sidewalk. The path/street it is on is quiet and friendly. The service was excellent: thoughtful but efficient. Our server spoke English fluently. It is a fancy French dinner, so you shouldn't expect it to happen quickly. Our meal was almost three hours long. Take someone you want to have some time to talk to.

Great, the restaurant interior feels cozy like a living room it's not too fancy but surely a bit upscale, we where passing by Metz on our way to Paris. The 3 course seasonal menu was perfectly fitting the hot summer weather. The most remarkable dish was the gazpacho for starters, the fish and later dessert was also good but not achieving the same level and uniqueness. The pairing wine was also 👌.

This place is a hidden gem, as its name says. The food is of the highest quality, well presented, and with creative combination of ingredients. Wine selection is also great. The only remark is the seating, which is slightly uncomfortable as you can’t get the chair close enough to the table due to its design. It also takes slightly too long to get the dishes so plan a longer night, especially if going for a 4 or 6 course menu. We took a 4-course menu with an addition of a cheese plate and this was plenty of food. The price is on a higher end but the food is certainly of a very good quality.

Derrière is the type of restaurant that makes you happy to be in France. We had the 60 Euro four-course menu and were delighted with all the dishes, but especially the wonderful tomato dish with olive sorbet and burrata and the pristine cod dish with super fresh peas. The accompanying four-glass wine selection offered a good variety of local wines, each one matching the dishes very well. As someone who loves bread and rich butters, the freshly baked focaccia and bread, accompanied with three different butters, was fabulous. I could have easily made a meal of it. Service is friendly and efficient. We highly recommend a meal here when in Metz.

With incredible creativity and vibrancy encapsulated in a boutique and chic ambiance, Derrière delivers a lavash tasting menu complete with a terrific wine selection and fabulous service. The menu is a surprise and not for the faint of heart. But if you’re a fan of fine dining and want the experience of having your pallet lay in the hands of a master chef for an evening, then Derrière will over deliver in all the right ways. Extremely affordable for a Michelin Guide restaurant as well and well worth a visit.

We (x2) choose the €78 menu. The food was mostly very good but unfortunately it was let down in particular by the very poor cheese course - dried up small pieces of cheese did the restaurant no credit. €78 seemed quite expensive for what we received but maybe that is just a sign of the times with increasing costs. The wine list is short but perfectly adequate. Service was also mostly good although when it got busy then getting attention towards the end of the meal was slow. We liked the converted rooms that make up the restaurant. Overall we are glad we came but doubt we would return.
