The Best Road Trip-Worthy Restaurants Outside New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Take a 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans through the Jean Lafitte National Park, and you’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles, named for the bayou on which it sits. With views of the lazy waterway populated by alligators, turtles, egrets, and other critters, this family-owned restaurant combines the beauty of nature with fine Louisiana and Southern fare. Classics like crawfish etouffée, seafood gumbo, and turtle soup keep company with the house special: alligator-stuffed mushrooms with alligator sauce piquant. Great lunch specials Monday through Friday." - Sarah Bisacca

We had a wonderful Sunday brunch here. I really appreciated the small things done right, like cold salad plates and staff filling to go containers. I got the Shrimp Lafitte which was supposed to have lump crab, but they were out, so they put the last of their claw meat instead, which was a very nice gesture. My friend had the fried shrimp, and we both agreed they were probably the best we've ever had, and we have eaten a lot of fried shrimp as native Louisianians. So good! The desserts were decadent. My favorite was the pecan cobbler. I loved this innovative twist on traditional pecan pie! The atmosphere cannot be beat. It's open and airy, and we were seated right next to the large picture windows. We loved seeing all the wildlife on a gorgous spring day. Our server was terrific. She seemed to be experienced and was welcoming and efficient. This is definitely a place I would love to bring visiting friends and family for a taste of Louisiana with a Louisiana view and Louisana hospitality!

What an incredible gem! Unbelievable food, incredible service, and absolutely beautiful! We ate all over new orleans during our vacation and this was by far the best food we had!

Google
Were still in Louisiana and trying another restaurant.. Approaching this place kind of reminds me of doing reviews in Florida, I like the look of it.. Looks really interesting, I like the layout, clean, good use of space. Hostess was prompt, and water arrived quickly. Offered helpful recommendations and was courteous... Now, let me got to what ALMOST caused me to to walk out.. 20% gratuity on groups of 5. Literally, In years of reviews, multiple cities, I seen this for groups of 8 or more but not 5.. I get it because people coming from the air boat rides will most likely stop for food, so financially it makes sense... We usually tip 20% and good service gets 50% from us... but some places that push mandatory tips offer mediocre service, so let's hope this goes good.. I wanted Cochon de lait PoBoy, well, they are out.. I couldn't on the spot think of something else so I will be sitting this one out. Although this raises an interesting question, will they still add the 20%.? As with almost all my reviews my wife is with me and I trust her assessment on food, and I'll sample some.. Perhaps it's normal down here, the water is room temp, no ice, and maybe this is the norm.?.?. I do like looking at the alligators in the waterway out back, it is a pretty view.. Appetizer is Boudin balls. For my fellow northerners, think sausage hush puppy.. Crispy shell, soft filling, good flavor, a touch dry though.. The entrees came within 2 minutes of the app, some may like this, others won't.. It's preference.. Shrimp Lafitte, pasta is cooked properly, shrimp is done good as well, the flavor is unique, and this is solely personal preference and I'm from the midwest, so i like a little bolder flavoring, for me it's to subdued, still good though.. Potato salad is definitely a little different. A touch of spice, with another taste I can not decipher. It's not bad.. Catfish. Is cooked perfectly, crispy, flaky, moist. We also enjoyed the coleslaw.. Overall it is a good little place to grab a quick bite if you're coming back from the airboats..

Google
Absolutely delicious! Beautiful atmosphere on the water and the staff was so friendly. I definitely will be back! Next time I would love to come for lunch so I can get a better view of the outdoors. Loved that it had a long history of being family owned. You can tell that a lot of love has gone into those recipes! Trust me, it was hard to make a decision on what to get. This place is worth driving a long way to enjoy. Highly recommend!

Google
Well worth the drive to the bayou for lunch or dinner. For a true cajun experience, put this place on your must stop list if you're visiting New Orleans. The food is excellent, and you can watch the alligators while dining.

Google
The ribeye was awesome. Staff is professional and refills on point. Got this huge glass window overlooking the river. Saw an alligator just chilling by the bank.

I recently dined at Restaurant des Familles for dinner with a swamp view. The old fashioned I ordered was good, but I was disappointed to see that they used maraschino cherries instead of the traditional Luxardo cherries. The seafood gumbo and chicken and sausage gumbo were both delicious and packed with flavor. However, I found the main entrees to be lacking excitement. The stuffed chicken was just okay and the jambalaya was mediocre at best. I was also disappointed by the overall ambiance of the restaurant. It used to be a fine dining establishment with white tablecloths and dressed-up servers. Now, the staff wears t-shirts and tennis shoes, there are no tablecloths, rap music blasts from the kitchen, and the flooring is visibly collapsing in some areas. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and it really detracted from my dining experience. Overall, I left feeling disappointed with my experience at Restaurant des Familles. While the gumbo was tasty, the rest of the meal fell flat and the deteriorating atmosphere was a major turn-off. I likely won't be returning in the future.

Google
Next to the swamp tour spot but you will have to do a u-turn and come back. We wanted to experience the authentic Jambalaya rice while we are in New Orleans. Nice atmosphere and seating arrangement with a view. Enough parking spots and clean restrooms. Friendly staff.

Yelp
I literally have been wanting to go here for years. Finally, and it did not disappoint! It was a bit of a drive from the East Bank, but definitely worth it. The restaurant looked like something right out of a history book. A big front porch with outside seating on the patio. There was a massive outdoor fireplace for those chilly days. We were lead into the dining room and were seated at a table by the windows that overlooked the bayou. Really nice view. We were a party of seven and everyone got something different and everyone said their dinner was absolutely delicious. Pasta and crab cakes, fried shrimp platter, barbecue shrimp, redfish, hamburger, gumbo, potato salad, boudin balls , and french bread for the table. Nobody got dessert because everyone was too full. Service was exceptional. Our server was friendly and efficient. Special requests were served as ordered, drinks were refilled promptly and dirty dishes were removed as needed. I hope we can go back again soon and see some alligators. *I would like to add that the bowl of pasta with the crab cake atop, was 1/2 the serving. Two family members split the dish, so it would be twice this size!*

Yelp
This spot has all of the charm, hospitality, and delicious food Louisiana has to offer in one place! We stopped here after an airboat tour, and decided to share lots of small bites to be able to try more of the menu. Our server Monica took such good care of us; she was so quick and efficient and kind. Our food came out quickly and everything was incredibly delicious! Each dish was so special and flavorful in its own way, and the servings were more than enough to feed four of us. The owner Brooke also made sure we were taken care of from the moment we stepped in to the moment we left. Her energy is immaculate, and it definitely shows through in her restaurant. Thank you so much!

Yelp
This place has an ambiance hard to find outside of Louisiana as most of the large windows surrounding the dining area give good views of the surrounding bayou (AKA swamps). They also have some alligators that tend to be in the rear area of the restaurant where the main dining room is located. The inside is a bit more of an upscale environment but most people are dressed very casually and I have eaten here in shorts and a t-shirt before. They have a decent bar here along with a nice upstairs private dining/event space. The majority of the menu seems be seafood with a large portion of that being of the fried variety. There is a smaller selection of non-seafood options and they also have a Sunday brunch. Everything I've had here has been good just not outstandingly memorable. The service has always been very friendly and efficient. This is a good stop for lunch before doing one of the nearby swamp tours and seeing an alligator drifting along in the bayou for your meal isn't guaranteed but it is a possibility. LaFitte National Park is very near to this place and if you get your directions turned around you might end up in the park instead of the restaurant (I never ever have done that or have I...). This place is a bit of a ways outside of New Orleans so make sure you get very good directions. My video review of Restaurant des Familles is here: https://youtu.be/2mUGK1hTkVA

Yelp
One of our favorites. Brook and her stellar staff have done a phenomenal job making this place 5 stars. Whether you want a steak, seafood, salad, jambalaya, pork chops or gumbo - it's best here!! You can't beat the scenery either - You're sure to see a gator, heron, pelican or many other specimens of beautiful Louisiana wildlife right out back!

Yelp
We stopped here after taking a nearby swamp tour. We were seated right away and our waitress came to take our drink order. We were surprised to see a very large alligator resting about 50 feet outside the window from our table! Not something you see every day and pretty cool! We placed our order and our food arrived shortly after. We had the alligator stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and they were ok. I had the redfish marcel and it was pretty good. My husband ordered the smothered catfish and he said it was just ok. He would have like the fish to be more blackened but the crawfish étouffée and jambalaya were good. The kids had fried shrimp and cheeseburgers with fries. Overall it wasn't bad by any means, but I would only go if we were in the area.

Yelp
Came here with my girlfriend as a visitor after a sweaty swamp hike. The weather was extremely hot (100F) and it was good to get some rest and lunch. The ambience is pretty cool- it felt classy and more formal and most restauraunts. Service was generally pretty friendly and waitresses were helpful in picking food. One thing that sets this restauraunt apart is that there's a huge window showing several gators in a river habitat! They even fed them bread before our eyes and while dining, we were allowed to watch them eat and roll around in the sun. We got some amazing footage! We got the crawfish etoufee and the blackened redfish. The crawfish etoufee was one of the best if not the best that I've had in NOLA. The blackened fish was likewise super soft, tender, and flaky. I would definitely recommend this establishment for visitors to NOLA, and I'm sure locals love this place already.

Yelp
We are always looking for new places to eat as a family and we've added this place to our list. The food was flavorful, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was top tier. Christie was our waitress and she did an amazing job. My kids loved the deck that was overlooking a bayou where they spotted alligators. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. We will be back to try the other dishes they offer.

Yelp
Food was great. Soft shell sandwich at lunch was very filling. Bread was fresh and crispy. Everyone was quite satisfied with their food, catfish and shrimp poboy! The ambiance is beautiful. Amazing view of swamp where on any given day you may see alligator moseyingly along! They were short staffed on the day we ate, but it did not take away from the food And the kitchen is wide open. As I past it, I was quite pleased to see how clean and sanitized it was. As I was leaving I noticed their pens said NOLA CAYE, which is one of my favorite restaurants in Downtown New Orleans. They also own that one, which is five stars as well

Yelp
In my opinion they're easily the best most consistent seafood restaurant in Louisiana with the nicest waitresses / waiters / staff. I highly recommend requesting Kristi C as your waitress she's the best!

Yelp
After a Swamp tour, our group was famished and we found this spot. The restaurant's atmosphere was quite elegant. Honestly, didn't feel like we fit with the aesthetician, given we had dressed for a Swamp tour in early winter. But the host and staff were quite welcoming. Our group of 8 was quickly sat down at a table and overlooking the edge of the Swamp. Gave us a great view of Blanche, the gator in the area, who was sunbathing. Now, the drinks were alright. I liked my pomegranate martini. Others at our table thought the drinks were more on the bitter side. We all agreed that the food was amazing! We each couldn't help and have a taste of everyone's dish. I particularly liked the Crabcake Remoulade, Au Gratin - Crab, and BBQ shrimp and grits (the latter of which was a pleasant and delicious surprise). We also indulged in the pecan pie which was alright. I'd suggest heeding the main meals and appetizers. Once we were finished eating, our waitress easily divvied our checks in 5 ways, saving us the trouble of figuring out who owed what. Anyone who is near the area should definitely visit this restaurant. Additional info: abundance of parking, decor is picture worthy, bathrooms were immaculate.

Yelp
Ive been waiting a few years of this restaurant to reopen and they did not disappoint. The location is a pretty nice drive from the New Orleans area but it you are planning a swamp tour I would make it a point to stop here and have some lunch, dinner or even brunch on Sunday. The entire Staff was awesome and the manager or maybe she was the owner greeted us with a hug and ended our visit with a hug. Now the food was top notch, the seafood gumbo and turtle soup was very good, the onion rings were freshly made and delicious with that dipping sauce. The soft shell crab is one of the best i've had in a long time and I would definitely return just for this. My only complaint was the shrimp and grits, its a preference thing, I like my grits creamy and these were they were more grainy but that didn't take away from all of the other food that we received such as the red fish and the pasta. I will definitely return.

Luke H.

Yelp
Unfortunately a complete tourist trap. Seeing a gator and the swamp was great, and that deserves a star. Food was incredibly disappointing. Grilled shrimp and redfish was somehow completely bland. Had to ask for lemon and add hot sauce. Mushrooms had the taste and texture of being canned, which was very perplexing. Jambalaya and asparagus were the stars, but you don't want to pay $40 for an okay jambalaya, do you? Turtle soup tasted like Christmas - was horribly overspiced with clove. No amount of sherry could save it. Crab was much, much too salty, no sweetness or nuance to it at all. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer had an excellent sauce. And staff were nice. This does not make up for the terrible food and outrageous prices. Do yourself a favor and see the gators some other way (park, tour, etc.) and pack snacks so you're not tempted to order food here. Absolutely do not recommend.

Yelp
I came in on a Sunday after doing something else in the area. I chose to order off the menu as I was hungry, but not hungry enough for the five-course special menu. I got the crab cake with pasta. It was good but lacked some pizazz somehow. Service was excellent. Everything was in perfect order. The bayou outside was nice to look at.

Beneto C.

Yelp
Gumbo is terrible, mushroom stuffed alligator was nasty no gator in it! Horrible choice.

Yelp
I love, love, love this place. My husband and I went home to visit our parents for the week. The ambiance was everything. We enjoyed the set up sitting by the window with a view of the swamp. I guess, you may need to be a native to enjoy viewing the swamp with the gators, or maybe not. The service was delightful and the food was good but let's talk about this desert. I make deserts for other people but I'm not really a desert person lol. I'm simple; only eating a piece of chocolate cake (usually made by me lol) or a sweet potato pie (again, made by me). Well the waiter convinced me and mom in trying this pecan cobbler. Remember Im not a desert person. The cobbler was sooooo divine. I haven never...lol.. My grandma was the "pie lady", so we don't buy anything with pie in it lol... I make them. Peeps, I would visit this place just to buy the pecan cobbler... OMG....SMH....GOOD! Why is this pecan cobbler on my Thanksgiving list. Oh yes, I will be recreating this pecan cobbler. I will also be going back and visiting just for the pecan cobbler lol with my non desert eating self...lol

Karen R.

Yelp
Very nice place. Beautiful view with a nice view of the bayou. Good food and friendly service. This is a place to visit and revisit again and again. I only wish that they would add back the chargrilled oysters to their menu.

Yelp
Taking a gator swamp tour. Had light lunch at this restaurant. This restaurant is a local restaurant. This restaurant is located next to the gator swamp tour.

Yelp
We stop by this place right after our swamp gator tour. Not knowing anything about it. Just pulled over and we had huge group of 8 of us. We was greeted right away by the owner, she sat us at the bar area which is great. We didn't mind. This entire restaurant itself is super clean, and beautiful. The staff service amazing! We pretty much order almost everything off the menu. I just want to say the venue, service and food was impeccable! 5 stars! I will be back! And if you go out back you can see alligator just hanging out. Thank you for amazing service and dining experience! Owner you're awesome and very knowledgeable!

Yelp
It is nice to see this place back up and running. This place is swampy romantic seafood restaurant in the middle of jean lafitte Swamp. The restaurant was built to face the Swamp, so every where you sit, will be a gorgeous view. They have a full bar but the best part about this place is the food is amazing. It's like having a little peice of cajun country near the city. The food is smothered, and covered, rich and calorific. I ordered the blacked catfish which is my favorite way to eat fish, blacked and covered in butter. On top of the catfish was a creamy, crawfish erouffe that packed flavor. Next to that was a huge helping in jambalaya which did taste better with the sauce. The hubby ordered the crab cakes and pasta. And I had to admit. As good as mine was, his was even better. I am dying for that crab. They place two giant crab balls on your plate, sprinkled the most perfect, delicate sweet tasting crab on top like amuse bouche. And again, if that wasn't already enough, the crab balls on placed on top of a buttery, super cheesy, pasta. I could have eaten all that in addition to mine. We also had turtle soup and gumbo. That gumbo was a perfect dark cajun roux and tasted exactly like the gumbo in cajun country. There wss no drink menu, I guess since they're just brand new opened that they haven't got one ready yet. Only thing I wished for was a dessert. I heard the ladies behind us ordered bread pudding. And our waitress just handed up the bill without asking if he wanted dessert. I supposed I could have asked if we could order dessert or if there was a dessert menu, but I had asked earlier for a drink menu and that didn't exist. Maybe the ladies behind us got the last dessert. The moment passed and we were given the bil without checking to see if we wanted anything else so we just decided to eat dessert closer to home. Overall very romantic. Great view. Van make reservations on opentable. Recommend waiting till alligators are out and about when the weather is a little warmer. Also I recommend make a day out it and do a swamp tour if you haven't.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Food, service and ambience amazing. We had steak wedge salad, gumbo, shredded pork sandwich. Then came back after our swamp tour to have drinks and dessert. Food and service is top notch.

Jessica L.

Yelp
This was such a picturesque place to eat. We ate outside since inside was pretty full and we had a toddler. The service was spot on and they were very attentive. The food was simply amazing. We visit at lunch after our swamp tour. My husband had the shrimp po boy with fries, I had the fried chicken sandwhich with grits, we also had the crab balls and crab cakes.. along with some cocky ales. Everything was amazing. Total price $165 but so worth it.

Eunice H.

Yelp
Service was very good we arrived during a busy time and received good treatment. The atmosphere is very homey our waitress was good and the drink ppl were attentive. Food was FRESH and great flavors. I loved the fact the kitchen is fully open and you pass it walking to your table. Coke was flat is the only disappointment of the day. I got the fried shrimp and fish with the loaded au gratin because at 2 pm the bbq ribs were sold out. I was very pleased

Kourtney W.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious everything I ate was. The appetizers were amazing, I ordered the crabmeat au gratin, crabmeat boulettes & the alligator stuffed mushrooms. The portions were good and the flavor was outstanding. For my main course, I ordered the crab cake lafitte pasta, which was delicious!
google avatar

Onastine N.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this restaurant by luck while traveling. I sat at the bar and had great service from the bartender. The manager even came by to chat. Little did I know that behind the bar was a beautiful restaurant with views of the bayou and a safe view of live crocodiles. You can walk outside to get a closer look if you dare. The service and caliber of food made a rough traveling day turn around quick! I loved the automatic glass bottled water touch.
google avatar

Lina M.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! Are you in for a treat! The service was spectacular, the view was extraordinary and when the wildlife passes it is the beat view! The food was great. The ribs, steak, red beans and rice, po boys and catfish were a hit!

Sheree Y.

Yelp
I celebrated my birthday here. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. I enjoyed looking for an alligator through the glass wall facing the bayou with my grandsons. The waitress was very helpful showing us where to look. I will return.

Yelp
Food came out promptly and everything was fresh soft crab was cooked perfectly and all other item also where the same perfectly fried would suggest this for a couple to share great size

Yelp
Dined here Saturday evening with friends. The food and service were both amazing. Great ambiance, the staff was great. Watching the alligators while we were eating was a plus!

Adriana H.

Yelp
Great location! Wonderful family dinner! We didn't have a reservation and were seated immediately. Our waitress, Kailyn, kept the drinks topped off and gave the recommendation for the jalapeño grits. I don't like grits but these jalapeño grits were amazing. My kid is a picky eater but he loved the catfish and the crawfish etouffe. He really enjoyed the garlic bread. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The staff here were kind and attentive. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Amazing service and delicious food!!! I will definitely come here again!

Jadyn D.

Yelp
The food was amazing, service wonderful (they special made a meal for a member of our party with several allergies) and overall environment was great.

Vy N.

Yelp
There was hair in our appetizer. We told the waitress/ waitor but restaurant didnt even apologize. They said ok and walked away. The only nice thing was we can see alligators while eating.
google avatar

George G.

Yelp
Ambiance good. Service good. Food mediocre at best. Disappointed after such high ratings and long drive.

Sarah T.

Yelp
the service was good. when seated and given water, you're given a garlic bread appetizer which was great! however, they didn't refill our basket. it was also very cold and the windows were fogged up so we couldn't see what we came to the restaurant for (the scenery). might as well save the gas. the lunch menus prices were good because they were too good to be true. i got the chicken parmesan. don't do what i did. the sauce is spicy and had chunks in it. the chicken was burnt and incredibly chewy. everyone else at my table enjoyed the food. this review may be a little harsh, since i had not eaten anything prior and i was disappointed. there's also some weird residue you will get all over if you're looking on the porch. several members of my party had this on them and didn't even realize until later, so it's not noticeable until it's too late.

Yelp
Amazing! Food ambiance and service. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Cajun cuisine

Micah T.

Yelp
Really good food, a bit on the higher price range. Solid atmosphere. Solid service. If you are headed back to NO definitely worth the stop. I moved this to a 5 I paid 20 dollars for a meh muffuletta in New Orleans that took 30 to pay for. Des Familles would have been worth driving back to!

Yelp
A hidden gem on the bayou. We went after church for the unlimited champagne brunch. We were there when they opened and were seated promptly. The servers were friendly and quick to pick up our dishes after we finished each course. We had crabcakes and smoked salmon dip apps, seafood gumbo and turtle soup, and wedge and Caesar salads for our first three courses. Every dish was carefully prepared and deliciously spiced. *Pro Tip* they will bring a to-go box for ANY of your courses, so if you want a lighter brunch, you could save your soup and salad for later! The Crabcake Lafitte was delicious, and is basically a double serving, with two crab cakes and plentiful angel hair pasta. The lump crab on top with a swirl of pasta is a decadent bite. My fiancée ordered the Half & Half Platter, with catfish and shrimp. He would have liked more shrimp and less catfish. The tartar sauce was warm and looked like it may have been sitting out. Dessert is a choice from the dessert table. We had strawberry-topped cheesecake and it was perfect. I highly recommend that you take the drive down to Barataria to try Restaurant des Familles. Check out my full blog post at https://meagandoesmarrero.com/2019/12/02/unlimited-champagne-brunch-restaurant-des-familles/

Yelp
Tourist trap Nice atmosphere but the food was extremely overpriced and not up to par. Catfish was undercooked and didn't taste good. Toast didn't even have butter and for 50$ ... Stuffed mushrooms where pitiful and portioned extremely small about quarter sized. Didn't even get half a dozen shrimp on the platter, think there where 4. Pasta was a joke, very little sauce and 2 what frozen crab cakes in top with a literal sprinkle of crab meat on top. Presentation and thing that was edible was the onion rings. Get some better cooks if you want to charge these prices outside of the city. Will not be returning and will not recommend.

Yelp
Found this place after the swamp tour. We were starving and saw this was close by. The atmosphere was amazing, our waitress Jamilyn was great. The entire staff was hands on and our food was delicious. The Crab Au Gratin was very creamy and plentiful. We would recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
We enjoyed the food, the friendly staff and the great view! It was the perfect meal after our air boat ride. They also have a very large alligator that hangs around out back.

I believe we had Kailynn as our waitress. She was great! Very kind and recommended a blackened cod fish which was great. Also liked the stuffed alligator mushroom appetizer since it was the first time we tried it. We made a reservation online and luckily for a nice table near the big window with a view of the swamp where you might even get a peak of an alligator once in awhile!

Yelp
Excellent seafood. A great atmosphere especially for someone visiting the New Orleans area. Service is very good.

Yelp
Service was good and the food was tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed my pomegranate martini. I had the catfish platter with potato salad. I'm very particular about eating many potato salads but I found that theirs was one that I would eat again... and that truly is not to be taken lightly. Others in my party enjoyed the crab cake and pasta dish. They thought the pasta could have used a little bit more spice but they ate it all! The atmosphere was nice and not too loud and made for comfortable dining.

Yelp
Five solid stars if for nothing else than the exceptional onion rings. Best ever. Fresh, hot, crispy, and a great dipping sauce. Yumsters! Also had the soft shell crab sandwich and it was also fabulous. Gumbo was so so but not to worry. The onion rings already brought it to five stars. Friendly service. Nice view overlooking a small pond with lots of birds flitting about. There was a sign not to feed the alligator but did not see one here. Don't miss this delicious restaurant.

Yelp
Nice ambiance but food was nothing special. Certainly not worth the long drive. If you happen to be in the area it's surely the best option for food in the area. Staff and service was great. Food just didn't live up to expectations especially since so many rate it so highly. Maybe we'll give it another shot in the future to see if maybe we hit it on a off day.

Yelp
So we were able to experience this little gem thanks to the front desk at Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours. If you book a tour you get a free appetizer up to $8 at the restaurant -- big PLUS! The restaurant can easily be mistaken from someones home if you don't pay attention which is actually a nice touch in regards to cosmetics. Just view the pictures & you will get a good idea of what I'm saying. Appetizer: Bowl of chicken & Sausage gumbo -- it came out hot & so flavorful. I was trying to figure out who's grandma was in the kitchen blessing our bellies. The rice came on the side, which we just dumped into the big bowl & ate up. I would now consider myself lowkey addicted to rice so with that being said I greatly appreciated that their rice was nice & fluffy w/no hard pieces ! Entree: House salad w/ranch & a bowl of seafood gumbo -- the salad was pretty basic nothing special, however the ranch was a little different & soooo good! The seafood gumbo really hit the spot. The bowl was clean & ready for another serving. Other Entrees: Potato salad -- it was just right not too much mustard. Caesar salad -- DELICIOUS! Plus it seemed the croutons were freshly made. Turkey club w/fries -- it was considered their "lunch special" but the portion size was HUGE just for 1 person. I would recommend just ordering 1 & 2 people share the meal. The clubs were lightly toasted, flavorful & the fries were fresh w/a dash of salt & pepper. Customer service -- they we're really attentive and made sure we always had refills. Overall, the visit was one of the best compared to the other restaurants we visited. I do want to note for anyone interested in visiting, they are located in Marrero which is part of Westbank if I'm not mistaken. Just be mindful of drive time in relation to where you will be staying.
