Excellent seafood and fish are to be had in this plain and unpretentious little quayside restaurant in Llançà. We both ate from their "small" set menu, but don't be fooled by that. It was something of a lunchtime feast. The full-whack set menu, I reckon, would just about torpedo any serious plans beyond digestion and dozing for the rest of the day.
An array of delicious seafood starters came first, one after another after another. Anchovy fillet on de-crusted bread, adorned with shavings of foie gras. A plump sardine in a lightly fragrant oil decorated with pansy petals. Small crustaceans crisp-fried. Skewers of octopus flesh and prawn draped in a gentle melting cheese. Tempura fried little red mullets and sardines with juicy langoustines.
Then (already well fed!) the main courses, which we shared. A beautifully made and very traditional arròs mariner, and a simply sensational dish of skate stewed with potatoes in its own rich broth.
Did I mention the puddings? Ohhhh yes. Pears braised in wine with a velvety licorice ice cream.
I don't drink any more but the wine list looks, how shall I say, "small but perfectly formed."
We emerged full to bursting yet, paradoxically but entirely truthfully, wanting to go back for more - next time.
