We went to Restaurant ET in Aarhus for what was supposed to be a business lunch, and ended up sitting there for almost 7 hours. That alone says something about the experience.
We started with oysters, which were spot on. Served simply with lemon, a small crouton and sauce – really delicious. Then I had the beef tartare. It was good, nicely spiced and tasty, but very different from the classic style. Tartare is always interpreted differently: sometimes chunky, sometimes mousse-like, sometimes more like a salad. This one was very much like a tuna salad in texture. I liked it, but I personally prefer the more traditional version. Presentation also wasn’t as nice as I’d expect from a Bib Gourmand place. And the portion of fries that came with it was strange – literally 6 or 7 fries on the plate – though the bearnaise served on the side was excellent.
Dessert was also really good, beautifully made and very tasty. After the meal we stayed for cocktails, and they were absolutely amazing. The drinks kept flowing, and the owner even came around with chartreuse which was a really nice touch.
What really makes this place stand out though is the atmosphere and service. The restaurant is tucked into a little courtyard in the center of Aarhus, which is a beautiful setting. The staff were warm, professional and genuinely welcoming – not just during the meal, but for the entire afternoon and evening we sat there. Even though it’s a fine dining place, the vibe was relaxed and low-key, which made it feel comfortable.
All in all, a fantastic experience. Great food, top-class cocktails, beautiful location and some of the best service I’ve had in Aarhus.
