I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gandhi Restaurant in Montreal’s Old Port, and it was a truly memorable experience—especially since I brought my little cousins along, and it was their first time trying Indian cuisine. The restaurant offers a perfect blend of traditional Indian flavors with the charming atmosphere of the Old Port, making it ideal for both casual dining and special occasions. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by an inviting, warm ambiance that made us feel right at home. It felt like the kind of place where you could enjoy a comforting meal or celebrate a special moment, and it definitely added to the overall experience. I started my meal with a crisp glass of Chardonnay, which was the perfect companion to the rich and aromatic spices that followed. To kick things off, we tried the Papadam—an irresistible, crispy lentil wafer served with three vibrant sauces: mint, tamarind, and mango chutney. Each sauce offered a unique balance of tangy sweetness that elevated the papadam, making it a delightful palate cleanser that melted in my mouth with every bite. For appetizers, I went with a selection of traditional favorites, and each dish was nothing short of fantastic. The Chicken Tikka was tender, with a smoky, roasted flavor, and the marinated chicken was seasoned to perfection. The Onion Bhajee, fried in Indian butter, was crispy and rich, with just the right touch of sweetness from the onions. The Samosa had a flavorful vegetable filling, and the Pakora—seasoned vegetable fritters—was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a well-balanced spice profile. When it came time for the main course, I decided to let the waiter surprise me with a variety of dishes to truly experience the diversity of Indian cuisine. The Mixed Vegetable Bhajee was a refreshing, light vegetarian dish with a wonderful combination of fresh vegetables and a perfect mix of spices. The Chicken Tikka Masala, a classic favorite, was comforting and creamy, with perfectly cooked chicken bathed in a rich, flavorful sauce. However, it was the Shrimp Bhuna and Lamb Dhansak that truly left an impression. The Shrimp Bhuna had a subtle, yet satisfying heat, with shrimp cooked to perfection in a rich curry sauce full of layers of flavor. But the Lamb Dhansak… wow. That dish was the real standout for me. The lamb was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, and the curry itself had a perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess, with lentils and spices providing depth without overwhelming the palate. What made this experience even more special was seeing my cousins—who were trying Indian food for the first time—so excited by the new flavors. Gandhi Restaurant not only gave us a chance to explore incredible dishes, but it also made us feel like we were sharing something truly special together. Overall, Gandhi Restaurant delivers an exceptional dining experience, with high-quality food, attentive service, and authentic flavors. The balance of heat, sweetness, and richness in every dish is remarkable. Whether you’re a seasoned lover of Indian cuisine or someone new to it (like my cousins), this restaurant offers a fantastic opportunity to dive into the vibrant world of Indian food in such an inviting setting. Stay tuned for my video review on TikTok (@Foxy.appetite) and Instagram (@Foxyappetite)!

Visiting from the USA and wanted to try different foods in Canada. By far, this Indian Restaurant was the best. Atmosphere was welcoming. My family ordered Naan, Agneu Tikka, Buttered Chicken, Agneu Korahi and Shrimp Malai. Food was excellent!! Flavors were there and loved every bite. Sauces for each dish were excellent. I would definitely come back if we visit again. Highly recommended!

Google
Avoid if you can. The food is not good, the service is lousy and the prices are prohibitive. Besides, if you are Indian or South Asian be prepared to be ignored by the staff. The food was uncooked, very very oily and very very spicy. The thali we ordered included a hot beverage that was not served. The only item that's good is their welcome papad If you have no other options, you may consider this restaurant else don't go there.

If you are looking for an authentic Indian restaurant, look no further! Fantastic flavourful dishes! 🥘 Came here with my husband for lunch on a hot summer day (24-07-25). The place was cool inside and the service was warm! 😊 Do not pass by this place. It’s located in Old Montreal, so after your meal you can go for a walk and sight see on a full stomach!

Google
Situated in Old Montreal the restaurant has a good ambience and a good location. The portion size of starters is very small, so please order accordingly.

We are vacationing in Montreal. By far the best meal we have had while we were here. We had the most delicious curry lamb we have ever tasted- it has a perfect blend of spicy and sweet. We ordered an appetizer of an assortment of tandoori chicken, and many other wonderful taste treats. Truly amazing! I only wish this restaurant was close by! Highly recommend Gandhi!

Google
Absolutely loved the experience! The ambiance was stunning—modern yet warm, with beautiful decor and a lively atmosphere. The food was flavorful and perfectly spiced. I tried the butter chicken and garlic naan, and both were incredible. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, and everything is made with care. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Drinks were also a highlight—creative and beautifully presented. It’s a perfect place for a date night, dinner with friends, or even brunch if you’re into Indian fusion. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic Indian food with a modern twist. Will definitely be coming back!

Google
We had the best Saag Paneer - like none I had experienced before. Fresh, amazing. Rice pudding also was above any other in presentation and flavor. Service was impeccable. Thank you!

Yelp
Seven of us had dinner here from across the world, US, Europe, Middle East, India. We all agreed this was the worst Bangladeshi restaurant we had ever eaten Indian food in. Not one of us enjoyed a single dish, so much food was wasted as it was inedible. To give you an example of how bad it was one of our group ordered a tea, even that was cold and he drank it in one gulp. Extremely overpriced for the dishes. Now we understood why it was so quiet. I'd suggest trying it so you know just how bad it is and can warn other people. The tandoori dishes are inaccurate as they do not own a tandoor.

Yelp
The food was above average. My chicken Vindaloo was as spicy as advertised. Service was below par. No offer to refill my soda when it was empty and slow to fill the eater glasses.

Justin F.

Yelp
Wonderful meal! Ordered Vindaloo, Basmati Rice, and Garlic Naan. I like spicy food and the Vindaloo delivered. Don't underestimate the . Service was fantastic! The owner personally waited on us. He offered us help when we didn't know what dish to order. Ambiance could not have been better. Calm, peaceful, private, and welcoming. All in all 5/5

Yelp
White table clothes and very proper service. Nice vindaloo and aloo Bombay plus very good nan. Pretty extensive menu for those wishing to branch out beyond the common items.

Yelp
Very enjoyable. Authentic. Very good service with a friendly attentive staff. Most enjoyable.

Yelp
absolute banger of an Indian restaurant in the old city. proper old school service. perfect all the time but especially on a cold winter night after a few hours at bota bota.

Yelp
Just got back and this place was AWESOME. There were 4 of us and we split the appetizer sampler and samosas to start. We split 3 entrees...Poulet Korma, Malai Madras and Shahi Paneer along with garlic and mozzarella naan. The mozzarella naan was SPECTACULAR. So good we ordered a 2nd order. All in all a fantastic meal, and very reasonably priced that I didn't want to end.

Yelp
I am not shocked but surprised how this establishment has a 3.9 stars on yelp as of August 2023. My unbiased rating based on a recent visit is a generous one (1) star. The basic idea and of dining out is for the experience, ambience, food quality and a decent service. We have not experienced any of these in the recent visit. Our recent visit was in August , 2023. I am of the Indian origin in USA. So the context is that I am fully appreciative of a reasonably good Indian cuisine. During our visit ( on the Saturday evening ) we did not have a prior reservation. The waiter also manager also water glass filler was super busy and we had to beg him to for a water refill. He showed up after some 30-45 mins to take our food order. Finally, the food came out ( we ordered biryani, naan. And some currys). The biryani portion was more like a kid meal portion. The quality of the biryani was non existent . I wouldn't even call it biryani. Don't expect a Hyderabadi, awadh, Kashmiri, Tirunelveli or any style of biryani here!!! The curry's were pretty awful. It's disappointing to see such a low in the whole experience especially when the restaurant name is Gandhi. It is probably not a mandate for restaurants with great names to be great at the quality . The place was totally noisy and other tables seemed restless from my visual observations. The food is also completely bland (we ordered spice level tobe spicy ) just like the service. So, no I don't recommend this experience to any. If I were to mention one great thing about this place . I'll give you two . 1) the location of the place 2) the interior decor. Sorry, we did not bother to take any pictures.

Yelp
Tasty food with a lot of the classics. Very friendly owner and good service. Some of the dishes were slight variations on what I have add with more traditional preparation, but not with any reduction in quality or taste period. Specifically, the saag paneer and the rogan josh were slightly different in preparation than what I have had at other Indian restaurants, but by no means coming not delicious. Would come here again!

Yelp
Have dined here pre-Covid and after finally feeling able to venture off again here we are in the wonderful city of Montreal! Night #1 brought us to Gandhi. We are full and happy. The service and food do not disappoint.

Yelp
Tried this spot out because my dad is always craving Indian food on trips. We decided to go with 2 vegetarian 4 course meal for the 4 of us. We were actually recommended to do this because it comes with a lot of options and would get us full. The waiter was so right and glad we made that call. In my opinion the service was the best part of this visit - everyone was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. I personally thought the food was too oily and not as tasty.

Yelp
Would've loved to give 0 stars if possible. Service is extremely slow and everything is way overpriced. Chicken biryani had two small pieces of chicken in it for $22. The rice was also very overcooked and salty. The chicken tikka was super sweet and lacking flavor as well. Avoid at all costs. There are many better Indian restaurants in Montreal.

Sanjay A.

Yelp
Speed - (1 stars) 1.2 hrs to deliver 2 plates Tastiness - (1 stars) The Curry we ordered was okay, was eatable and the puri and naan was cooked well. The real devil comes with the chicken biryani, 0 taste, not much portion, cost is super high For 2 entrees, coffee, and two bread pieces you are charged 78 Canadian, should be fraudulent I will say the manager was the only one working hard, running left and right like a f1 racing car he was the only one on the outside really working. We had asked for water two times and only received a complete cup after the third time asking. Ambiance - (2 star) Upon entering the restaurant, we were forced to wait outside like dogs, despite there being only like one other party in front of us. However the windows looked nice and the seating was okay and the room was pretty lively. Bottom line: This restaurant missed out on Exactly what an Indian Restaurant should strive at that being taste and ambiance. I would even go as far as to say this restaurant should be ashamed to call itself an Indian restaurant.

Yelp
So we're strolling along the street and happen to go into a GP Boutique store during the Grand Prix weekend. When I asked if they had what I was looking for, the answer was 'no' so I asked the next logical question... 'where's good to eat around here?' Now that was something she could help me with! Out came the phone to google map the restaurant name... huh, a 20 minute walk from where we were? Let me tell you, it was with every step. I wish I could thank the young lady who suggested it to us because she was right, this place is fabulous! We opted for the Chicken Kashmiri and som Aloo Gobi. It would seem that we try Aloo Gobi at every Indian restaurant we go to and this was one of the best! The Chicken Kashmiri I could eat everyday for the rest of my life. Note to self: I want this to be my last meal! Must update Yelp profile info. The Papadum was really good and the three sauces/chutneys were incredible. I believe they were mint, tamarind and mango. Absolutely to die for!! Dear GP Boutique (on Saint Catherines Street) employee who recommended this restaurant to me... THANK YOU!!! You will never be forgotten.

Yelp
We had excellent service, a friendly waiter and yummy food. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We had a great time at this Indian Restaurant. The staff was very friendly and inviting and the food was very good. The naan was honestly some of the best we've ever had, it was so fresh. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

Brian G.

Yelp
Food was average. The portions were small. The Naan was only one piece per order. The chicken tikka was one small chicken breast cut up. We spent way too much money for what it was. I would pass next time in town.

Yelp
Restaurant Ghandi makes me feel like I'm back in India without the crazy jet-lag! The decor is minimalist by Indian standards: white table cloths, white walls, some weathered wooden door panels on the wall and a few ferns. When we walked in there was a brigade of waiters dressed smartly in formal wear. We were greeted warmly and escorted to a great window table facing St. Paul. The inexpensive wine list was way better than average having multiple choices in that oh so sweet $65 price point. We ended up with a nice Sancerre that paired beautifully with the spicy dishes to come. Our waiter recommended one of the "dinner for two" options that had a nice salad and starter, followed by three mains and rice (paneer with peas, chicken with a light curry, and lamb with a coconut curry), followed by a dessert platter and tea. The lamb curry was by far the best dish, in fact the others were average in comparison. When I go back I will build my own "dinner for two" around that dish and try a few other mains. Oh, the butter naan was perfect, just the right combination of crispy outside and fluffy inside...yum! Service was attentive and friendly, in fact our waiter made a point of not rushing us through the meal. Ghandi was a good dining experience and we will definitely return.

Yelp
Great menu choices for authentic Indian food. Service with a smile too! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Good ambience , quality of food is average for the price. Service is good and quick. Disappointed with quantity and quality

Yelp
Worst food experience ever. My sister and I were staying in Old Montreal and tried out this restaurant as we both love Indian food. We ordered some traditional dishes, samosas, Sag Paneer, and Baingan ka Bharta (eggplant). The samosas were good but the two entrees were the worst I have ever had. No flavor, no Indian heat or seasoning. The saffron basmati rice did not have saffron and was not basmati rice. In both dishes there was green and red peppers. The paneer was orange in color, not white. I thought this is just how they made their food. We didn't finish the food and the server never came over to ask how things were. After they cleared the table, they did not come back to offer anything else or the bill. We walked up to the little register stand and our waiter signaled he would bring the bill over, I said we would pay there. He asked how everything was and I said the food was not what I expected, it didn't taste like Indian food. He said, and I quote "Oh, when we see people like you we don't prepare the food with spice!" We are two Caucasian women, and this was extremely insulting. Needles to say this did not go over well with me and I made it very clear about the insult. The waiter keep trying to cover up his comment saying we didn't order the right dishes, pulling out the menu and pointing to dishes with heat indexes on them. This just added fuel to the fire. He was saying to come back and he will make sure the food would be good. My final comment was I would never come back to this restaurant if I return to Montreal. So, if you want to go, and are white, make sure you tell them you want REAL Indian food. Or better yet, go somewhere else.

Yelp
I've returned since my 2014 review and to my delight had a great meal with equally fine service.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant 4 yrs ago with my wife and two teenagers. Food was amazing and the Chai Tea was the perfect end to the evening. We always reflected with fondness, the service and food we enjoyed there. In 2021, revisited and was delighted to see the restaurant survived COVID and the food and tea was just as amazing!! A bucket list for sure for my family future trips to Montreal!!

Yelp
I was reaaally craving Indian cuisine when I was passing by this restaurant so I decided to give it a try. To say I am disappointed is to say the least. It was really confusing when we approached the place - it looked like it was closed. The waiters were passing by but we stood there for so long not sure if we can enter - we had to call them before entering. Normally I would have left but I was hungry so I stayed. They have a good menu - so many dishes to choose from, but honestly what's good in having so many different things if you can't do it properly. We had the lamb dish - they bring in a crispy bread with dips before serving the main food and the lamb came with a salad and rice. The meat was so dry and weirdly cooked - I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this is the first time I disliked it. In addition, the prices are unjustifiably high - I would expect these kind of prices somewhere more exquisite but this place is just ridiculous. Also, their service was mediocre.

Yelp
Ghandi has been around since 2001 but in the last year the manager bought it over. We made reservations via ooentable for Saturday and they kindly gave us a window as per requested. It was very busy on Saturday night and service was super slow. We started with vegetarian samosas which were nice and soft and decent tasting. For our main meal we had the butter chicken which we found a tad too sweet, the eggplant was very good and a lamb curry which we asked for spicy but it was nothing but. They did provide free rice and the garlic naan was good. They didn't seem to have wine by the glass choices so I got a Beaujolais half bottle for $20 and that was fine. The place does have an haute class to it but service is super slow and you can get the same and even better meal elsewhere for half the price in other parts of town.

Sonali H.

Yelp
I have given 1 star because i cannot give lower than is.Worst service ever. We wait 15 min to place order. and after ordering we wait another 1 hour to get served. All other customer were facing same issue. And after 1 hour we were served with sabzi only. Waited another 5 min to get naan. So our sabzi has gone cold. food was worse to eat. no taste. Gravy was like water. Naan was under cooked.

Yelp
My bff swears that Gandhi is the best Indian food in North America, so this was our first meal stop when we got to Montreal. Despite the generic name, the food is excellent as was the service, and the restaurant is very pretty and bright. We were starving and ordered several dishes to share: chicken jalfreezi, chicken tikka masala (my favorite), plain naan, and samosas. We asked for spicy levels for the two chicken entrees, and unlike their American counterparts they did NOT disappoint with the spice levels. I also noticed that American chicken tikka masala has always seemed cream-based to me, but at Gandhi it was definitely onion-and-tomato-based. While I lovelovelove and am more accustomed to the creamy-rich deliciousness of chicken tikka masala in the States, Gandhi's was very delicious. I also liked the jalfreezi. The samosas were good and I loved drizzling their array of sauces on the deep-fried lovelies. The naan was a little too sweet for my preference, but the fluffy texture was wonderful. I don't know when I will be back in Montreal again but I would definitely make Gandhi a sure stop and highly recommend it to any local or tourist.

Yelp
Our last night in Montreal, we decided to dine at this restaurant. We had already eaten at 'Darbar', where the food was outstanding. So we were hoping for similar food experience at Gandhi. We didn't make any reservation and arrived around 6:30ish on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was empty and we were seated promptly. We were given a papad each until we decided what to order. We ordered the following: - Chana with Poori (Chickpea with fried bread): This was ok, nothing spectacular. The chickpea was not boiled properly and wasn't cooked properly with the spices and flavor. When I had the chickpea on its own, it was bland. I had to mix it with the curry. That is not how chickpeas should be. The chickpea should be soft. The curry was super oily, and my fingers were drenched in oil after I finished my meal. The Poori was ok, nothing too great. - My husband ordered a chicken curry, and he felt that the chicken wasn't tender either. We are Indians and obviously know what good Indian food tastes like. I would choose 'Darbar' over 'Gandhi' any day. I had ordered the same dish at Darbar, and the chickpeas were super soft and flavorful. We both left the restaurant feeling somewhat unsatisfied. We paid around $50, but the food was not as satisfying. My review of Darbar: http://www.yelp.com/biz/darbar-montr%C3%A9al?hrid=yHolKlGcY9g7gPJWDgutDA

Yelp
Delicous food that did not make me feel overly-stuffed. The service was great. I also loved how they named the items on the menu with bith French and hindi names.

Banny B.

Yelp
I love Indian food, and this was the first time ,I tried this restaurant . The service is AAA, Decor and ambiance ,soft, elegant and welcoming staff, attentive, fast (it was to early for supper time, so it was not that busy) and informative. The owner is even hands on, and asks around if everything is fine to make sure, the clients are fully satisfied. Now talking about food, I have ordered few different choices , the presentation was great, however the flavour was missing, I assume, since many of the visitors are tourists in that area, they do not make the dishes really authentic Indian spicy or go gentle with all other spices in their cooking, but I am sure, next round, I can tell them how spicy I want the dish, and they will accommodate my wants. Have fun
google avatar

Sonal B.

Yelp
Service was slow and the music playing did not match the decor at all - they decided to play some 80s crappy Bollywood songs in a fine dining Indian rest. Really? We ordered chicken madras and that made up for the bad food definitely! Hit the spot after having montreal's heavy french style food all week.

Gordon K.

Yelp
So good...the mixed grill tandoori was wonderful. Butter chicken, aloo paneer and a lamb dish too. Just a great takeout. They were so nice and fast preparing.

Steve R.

Yelp
Good lunch offer. Food is good - low on the spice (heat). Great nan bread. Very busy - manages to provide attentive service. White tablecloths - great location.

Yelp
Great Indian food! We did one of the dinners for two to sample a bit of everything. Delicious! Taj Mahal has chicken, duck, and veggie. Apparently, Kenny Rodgers was there last week! Staff were great, had helpful recommendations. Would highly recommend if you're in the Old Montréal neighborhood.
google avatar

Lauryn W.

Yelp
This is by far one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Montreal...and my absolute favorite in Old Montreal. The service is excellent! Everyone there is absolutely lovely with great personalities! And the food is spectacular. They will make it as spicy as you want...or don't want, if spice isn't your thing! Their naan bread is the best! It's so good that even my strict Keto friends decided it was worth it to have a cheat night! If you're going to a show at the Centaur Theatre and you like Indian, then this is the perfect match up to your evening at the theatre. Gandhi is just steps away from the theatre...it has quickly become part of our Centaur evening. Or, if you are staying at one of the hotels in Old Montreal...it's a quick walk away from any hotel in the Old port! Plus there are a lot of great shopping opportunities along the way. I'm looking forward to my next dinner at Gandhi and strongly recommend for anyone who likes Indian food!

Randy M.

Yelp
The food was delicious but it was the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. We had reservation and were seated promptly, then ignored for at least 30 minutes before they brought water. It was another 30 minutes to get our drinks and appetizers and after 75 minutes of waiting, only when we asked for the bill and threatened to walk out did the food miraculously arrive. After that, there was no interaction with any of the wait staff. No effort to stop by and ask how the dinner was or even offer more water. When the bill was presented, the waiter just left the credit card reader on the table and walked away.

Yelp
It's a great place to have hsuan food in the heart of Montreal. The food is real good, very much adapted to the non-Indian palate while still feeling fresh and flavorful for the Indian palate. It's got parking nearby which helps a lot and the servers are very kind. We got the keema naan (great! Made with fermented dough, light and fluffy), chicken kadhai - it was ok, slightly overlooked chicken, but just only slightly and it didn't take away the taste. The star was the mango chutney for me, which came along with the papad in the beginning of the meal and we made sure it stayed on the table for the rest of it as well. The shahi paneer was delicate and not op overpoweringly sweet or heavy. Gulab jamun wasn't true authentic, one could sense the French influence on the recipe, but it worked decently well
google avatar

Nandini K.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Indian food, don't ever come to this place. The food is extremely sweet (even though I requested it to be spicy), and it doesn't taste authentic at all. This restaurant is meant for the locals, not for Indians. The restaurant was very pricey, and the quantity was extremely small, and the food wasn't even worth that amount. If you're looking for a place to waste money and to not have good food, this is that kind of place. Every food option that we put, was sweet even though it's supposed to be spicy. They're either using canned purée, or they're putting sugar in every dish and claiming that it's "spicy".
google avatar

mar k.

Yelp
The food was really good. Wine selection also really surprisingly good! They have the cool half bottles which I always find adorable and really handy if you are really looking for two big glasses of wine. The only thing that would be handy is if they added pictures to their menu for those of us who order chicken masala each time for the lack of knowledge of other dishes. But very good all in all!

Vindaloo King 1.

Yelp
Super solid vindaloo. My third time here. If you want the spice ask for Vindaloo Phaal which is much richer, darker and, OMG, spicier. Excellent high end restaurant with great service and variety of dishes and flavors. Strong recommendation.

Biswajit D.

Yelp
An Indian restaurant in Old Montreal - you better be special and different. And this one lives up to the expectations. It's a notch above the other Indian restaurant (Taj) out there. I loved the white walls out there that adds to the ambience. The food is pretty good and the service is nice. The washrooms are clean and the service is good. Hands down, the best Indian restaurant in Montreal - it's quite pricey though!
google avatar

Amit B.

Yelp
As an Indian looking for an Indian food, we tried Gandhi just because of its rating. We were hugely disappointed with the long service wait time, small portion, very mediocre taste and high pricing. Overall a disaster.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
I've had better Indian food, especially for the price. But, they are in the old port of Montreal, someone has to pay for that rent! I've also had better service, the waiter was a real jack ass. The guy I went with did not leave a tip due to the poor service, and the waiter followed us into the street accosting him for a tip. I ordered saag paneer ($17), it tasted good but it arrived in small quantity, and the naan, while good is expensive at $4 per piece. Note that they also close between lunch and dinner seating's. I do not plan on returning to this restaurant
google avatar

Craig M.

Yelp
One of the best Indian meals we've had yet! Perfect food, with great friendly service. I've eaten Indian food all my life and have realised that finding GREAT Indian restaurants can be a challenge. By recommendation of our waiter I ordered the Madras... and wow, it was nothing short of delicious with just the right amount of heat and absolutely bursting with flavour. The Chicken Saag was easily the best Saag we've had! Both were ordered with rice and Naan which accompanied our meals perfectly. At the end of the meal, our attentive waiter served hot towels for cleansing - nice touch. Pricing was totally reasonable for a top-quality restaurant such as this one. If you want GREAT Indian food in Montreal, then you must check out Ghandi... enjoy!
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
The food was very tasty and there was plenty to eat. Everyone enjoyed the meal. But something to keep in mind: every Indian restaurant has their own recipe for a common dish, so it may taste a little different from what you expect. As far as the restaurant, our server was slow to come by and take our order and wasn't much help when it came to suggestions. And the food is prepared to order so it can take a while. But it was worth it. Even at the price (which was a little on the high side).

Yelp
Last night me, my husband and my brother-in-law went to this restaurant as we were visiting Montreal. The ambience was nice and the owner was very welcoming. We waited for 2 mins for our table to get ready. While we were waiting, a customer was taking off and told us that he has been coming to this restaurant for a very long time and have always loved their food and that we won't be disappointed. After we were escorted to the table, we placed our order. We ordered Samosa and vegetable pakoras for the appetizers and Paneer Makhni, Daal tadka, rice, tandoori roti and tandoori naan for main course. While we wait for our food we were served fried papadums (We all loved it) with green chutney, tamarind chutney and mango chutney. After about 15 mins of placing the order appetizers were served. We all enjoyed and appreciated the taste and freshness of the appetizer and were looking forward to the main course. When our main course arrived we were a little disappointed as the paneer makhni was mediocre, tandoori roti was all dry without any butter, and my brother in law said that his naan is tasting like pita bread. However, the daal tadka was delicious. So we ate a lot of daal and reordered it. Overall, our experience was good and if I have to go there again I will only order their appetizers and daal tadka and rice.

Yelp
This was a very unpleasant evening. We came there with a group of 13 people, were seated, and had to wait over 2 hours to get our dinner. Just to be kicked out 2 minutes after finishing our meal. The food was okay but the waiter was very unfriendly, the restrooms were unclean and the beer was warm. When we reduced the tips on the pretty pricy dinner, the waiter complained and wanted to make us pay more. I would not recommend this, especially if you come in a bigger group.

Yelp
Looking for a location for a date night? This is a terrific choice for Indian food if you're in Old Montreal. The place is gorgeous, presentation is very well thought out, service is lovely. The food does take a little while to get to you but it's worth the wait - the dishes are cooked slowly but enjoy a few appetizers while you wait. You'll enjoy your evening there and have great Indian food. Wonderful curries, a fabulous duck tikka masala, several delicious varieties of naan bread. Vegetarians and meat eaters alike will love the food.

Yelp
Enjoyed dinner here with my husband and twin 12 year old boys. The chicken tikka masala was a bit sweet which is not the flavor we were expecting but it was good. We also ordered malai lamb which had a delicious sauce and tender meat, and chicken madras which was spicy for my husband who usually has no issue with hot spices. I found the spice level no problem but wasn't wow'ed by it. We ordered two rice dishes and two naans, and one puri. The purit was a thick but crispy yet tender. Portion size was a bit small. We walked in with no reservations on a Saturday night in the summer. The host sat us and the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Indian food. The restaurant is pretty and simplistic yet tasteful. The place was clean.
