Gärtnerei – Berlin - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"This chic restaurant located almost directly on a strip of restaurants in Berlin-Mitte serves up modern, tasty and fresh food. On the menu you will find plenty of vegetarian dishes. The wines are predominantly Austrian – the owner is from Styria. The interior is refined and, in keeping with the horticulture-inspired name, plants and floral motifs decorate the walls." - Michelin Inspector

Everything was good but nichts hat einen richtig vom Hocker gehauen. Starters were ok. Salad definitely too vinegary ( too sour ). Broth very good. Asparagus excellent, Dumplings were disappointing. Too stodgy. Dessert very good. Asparagus cocktail wasn’t as expected.

Coming back home after a meal in this modern German restaurant along Torstaße in Mitte, only really one question was bothering me.....is this the best German restaurant I have been to in Berlin? Answer to follow. It's busy so booking is a must and there are plenty of reasons why. Firstly, the service and atmosphere in this place can not be faulted. The menu is specifically very Germanic and very authentic. I also love the fact it fits on one page....there is no need for pages and pages of choice when it's this good. Extensive vegan and vegetarian options all over the menu, including a nice 3 course vegan menu for €40. However, other menu choices to satisfy those meat eaters out there do exist including, and ironic when confronted with so many vegetarian dishes, a beef tartare for a choice of starter. It is a very unusual offering nowadays and my favourite dish of all time. Having fought the urge for uncooked meat, we went with a nice fish course and boiled beef, and both of these were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The accompanying sides with the beef were all incredible, especially the creamed spinach and horseradish. An excellent, very relaxed experience with first-rate menu and service. Yes, it's not particularly cheap. We had 2 mains and 2 drinks and a bottle of water for €100. BUT... Let's be honest here and say that this price is not unusual in Berlin, and we have eaten far worse for more than this, so.... This is indeed, hands down, the best German restaurant I have been to in Berlin so far. We will return, and we will bring the kids next time. Highly recommended.

Very nice and cozy place, with an inviting atmosphere. Waiters and waitresses were very friendly and competent. The desserts were by far the best combined with fantastic cocktails and wine. The appetizers were great too, with my main dish and that of my wife way too salty. That was an accident, I am sure, but I have to include it in my review. Next time, all will be fantastic, I am pretty sure of that.

(3.8) pleasant staff but understaffed. nice ambiance although stuffy at the beginning. Tomato 🍅 is inventive. The mushroom soup wit the daji is superb. good risotto and good beef. Drinks underwhelming. pudding the ice-cream and cherries and the Austrian kuchen is to die for. wine prices are overpriced. Best pudding in Berlin up to now

We had a chance to experience this place for a special celebration. The service and atmosphere was really good, and we had a lovely night. About the food…. we had 2 starters (tomato and scallops) to share + 2 mains (cod and beef). I mean, would I go there again or recommend it? With these prices/taste ratio, nope, I don’t think so… The only remarkable taste was the scallops, it was yummy. Cocktails were nice. But the rest including the tomato starter, cod and steak was so average and didn’t impress us at all. Also the carrot cake itself was very disappointing but the ice cream was tasty. For 2 starters + 2 mains + 3 glasses of drinks + 1 desert + service, we paid around 150 which I find a bit much compared to what we were served.

We came for dinner to this place. One of us ordered the vegan menu, while the other had the scallops and the spinatknödel. The starter for the vegan menu, the tabouleh was tasty with raspberries. The scallops were tasty by themselves, but we found the combo with its green hummus sauce to be a bad pairing. The mains, which included the spinach Knödel and the cauliflower steak, were a bit disappointing. The cauliflower steak was a bit bland, with sauces tasting average at best. The knodels themselves were tasty, but the sauce was very dry. Kaiserschmarren was tasty while being unconventional, and the rote Grütze was also okay, the combo with the ginger ice cream wasn’t for us. Overall, the prices are a bit high and the vegan menu was a miss, but this place could have better dishes we haven’t tried.

Casual dining place with good price to value! The servings are sizable and they usually give out an extra welcoming appetizer before your meal. This is the place I would like to take my family or colleagues to. Would recommend their scallop, king prawn, and the schnitzel.

Service is great. We asked for a table inside, and we got it. One of us was allergic to gluten and milk, and the waiter helped her choose the right dishes, and it was all perfect. All three waiters were kind and served us in the best way. Well done! The food was good but nothing special. We had an octopus, which didn't taste much. The meat had good taste, but the sauces didn't make the difference. Actually I was expecting more from a place like this!

Yelp
My brother chose this place for dinner when I was visiting after my London trip was cut short. Lovely restaurant, beautiful décor inside, and solid service. The cocktail menu is very good and we all enjoyed our drinks. I had the octopus and the risotto and the three of us ordered 2 desserts to share. Over all, everything was very good but I did feel like the risotto was the weakest of the entire meal. The desserts were fantastic!
