"This restaurant has a laid-back and refreshingly natural feel; its name reflects chef Niels van Zijl's deep emotional connection to his hometown (Heimat) of Utrecht. Furthermore, it highlights his unwavering attention to the provenance of his ingredients. He makes a point of working with local suppliers and lets vegetables take centre stage, but fish and meat options are also available. His cuisine is creative and light. For instance, he ferments roasted potato skins to create a dashi, the base for an airy steamed chawanmushi. Stewed leeks, ramson oil, chive florets and tangy tobiko lend deep layers of flavour to this exuberant creation. Intriguing!" - Michelin Inspector

Was taken here last night (Thursday, 4 course set menu, 59 euro pp), very pleasant experience and relaxed pace. Outstanding gespatcio and watermelon tatar. Langoustine was presented well but unsure of the strawberry as an addition. Found the bread basket to be somewhat of a 'filler' dish that could have come as an included side. Vegan foie gras was interesting but the cold 'sorbet' addition was a bit vexing, especially on carrot. Tempah and wild mushroom brought the meal back on track. Nice dessert to finish. Didn't read many reviews beforehand and not being a wine buff cannot comment on pairing. Water now 4 euro pp, although not limit on quantity. Small beer selection but locally sourced. Very attentive and motivated staff bringing energy and natural customer interaction. For a special night, this could be a choice if in Utrecht.

Great experience, we went there with something to celebrate and the staff was really sweet and even gave us a card wishing us congratulations! Food tasted great and the sommelier really knew his stuff and we were able to drink some delicious wines. Lovely experience!

We had a wonderful experience at Heimat with the Easter menu. The setting is beautiful, the food was both delicious and delightfully surprising with its subtle flavors, and the entire team was warm and attentive. Thank you so much — we would love to come back someday!

All courses of the 6-course chef's menu were very good and tasty. The flavors were better than many Michelin starred places I've been. Especially the desserts were impressive: sweet but more than that. Heimat is one of the two places in Utrecht awarded with a green star; the other is Héron. Both places are excellent. Heimat is more fine dining and more expensive. We spent 250 for two dinners and a bottle of wine. And unlimited water for 3pp.

Heimat, located on Biltstraat in Utrecht, is a gem that offers a dining experience like no other. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a relaxed and chill atmosphere that sets the tone for an unforgettable culinary journey. The service is impeccable, blending professionalism with a laid-back vibe that makes you feel right at home. The highlight of Heimat is undoubtedly its exquisite 8-course menu. Each dish is a masterpiece, showcasing creativity and top-notch ingredients. The portion sizes and the pacing of the courses were perfect, allowing you to savor each bite without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. While every course was a delight, my absolute favorite was the starter: the watermelon tartar. This dish is a perfect blend of refreshing and savory flavors, with the watermelon providing a surprising yet delightful twist that sets the stage for the courses to follow. Another standout was the 'Infoiessible' dish, a brilliant reimagining of foie gras as a vegetarian dish. The flavors and textures were strikingly close to the traditional dish, highlighting the chef's skill and creativity. A unique and wonderful aspect of Heimat is that the food is served by the kitchen staff themselves. Their knowledge and passion for the food truly enhanced the dining experience. They provided insightful details about each dish, making the meal both educational and enjoyable. Heimat truly focuses on highlighting great ingredients rather than relying on flashy techniques. Each course celebrates the natural flavors and quality of the ingredients, resulting in dishes that are both simple and sophisticated. In summary, Heimat delivers a stellar dining experience with its exceptional 8-course menu, outstanding service, and inviting atmosphere. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a unique and memorable meal in Utrecht.

Google
Really enjoyed it, but not giving it more stars as the four course menu for 70 euros includes one entire course being dedicated to bread (i.e. a slice of rye bread and half a pretzel). Other restaurants serve amazing bread but do not count it as a course

Great place to sample a variety of new, delicious foods and explore the extensive wine menu. The quality of the dishes is surpassed only by the warmth and professionalism of the wait staff. Amazing restaurant, can't miss if you're in Utrecht!
