The 38 Best Restaurants in Montreal, Canada | Eater

"In comparing the city’s leading bowls of pho, diners’ preferences vary wildly. For some, Ho Guom’s nourishing chicken and lemon leaf option is unmatched, as are the beefy varieties topped with heaps of bean sprouts and fragrant herbs. But regulars at this quietly adored spot on Jean-Talon East will tell you other Northern Vietnamese specialties really take center stage. Consider the bò lá lốt, savory grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf, the fried fish patties, or the Hanoi-style grilled pork, all served with vermicelli and greens. Add an avocado smoothie or an order of chè ba màu (three-color bean dessert) for a sweet finish. Know before you go: Ho Guom is BYOB, so swing by the SAQ or a dépanneur (corner store) for some beers beforehand." - Valerie Silva

The Most Underrated, Hidden-Gem Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Villeray favourite Ho Guom’s extensive menu showcases a wide range of pho as well as bún (rice vermicelli) in soups and dry dishes, with copious amounts of herbs on the side. Don’t miss the chả cá lã vọng turmeric fish and their tropical fruit juices. There’s even a special meal for kids on the menu." - JP Karwacki

The Best Vietnamese Restaurants for Pho in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Ho Guom’s chicken pho (plain or with lemon leaf) will bring tears to the eyes of anyone recently returned from Hanoi in northern Vietnam. Dip a crunchy pastry fritter into it, add some bean sprouts and sawtooth herbs and order an avocado smoothie and your dinner will feel like the least expensive hop across the Pacific Ocean ever. Hot tip: visit with a friend on a Tuesday, when your second meal is 50 percent off."

Google
Vietnamese food spot near to metro D'Iberville. They have a lot of options to choose from but I went with I'm familiar with. Had the spring rolls and a bowl of Dac Biet pho. Everything was delicious. The spring rolls were fresh and tasty, the peanut sauce was exquisite, tangy and slightly sweet. The soup was amazing, the broth was comforting and the meat and noodles were nice. I especially liked the meatballs. The staff was attentive and the place is cozy and clean.

Just…wow!!!I have never had Vietnamese food as good as this restaurant since I came to Canada. We only came to Montreal for tourism but we had to go back to Ho Guom restaurant every day to enjoy the meal. The price is worth the quality of the food. The service is perfect and attentive. I wish this restaurant was in our area so I could go every day

One of the best authentic restaurants in town. My wife had the chicken & imperials with rice noodles along with a soup. On my side it was the rice noodle with grilled pork and imperial rolls. The meals were flavourful, delicious . Fried ice cream for the dessert, it was excellent. Definitely recommand and will be back.

Decent food and service, has outdoor seating. Clean interior. The food's favors were on the light side. Vietnamese ice coffee should be a bit sweeter. I ordered grilled beef rice and got half beef half pork.

First time trying Bún Chả Hà Nội here. I loved it. Sauce is well made. Portion is big. Will definitely come back.

This isn't our first time here. Definitely a family favorite spot that we go back to every few months. Not only can you bring your own alcohol but they have deals where on certain days you can get two dishes for the price of one. This place is usually packed so the wait times can be long but they are kid friendly and service is great!

Yelp
Extremely busy. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Staff speaks French like most of Montreal, but can also speak English. We were able to order without issue. The portion size is smaller than the states but still delicious.

Yelp
An Eater Essential of Montreal. A Vietnamese eatery that goes far beyond the common pho and banh mi. Regionalized foods of the country. It's a must try. Bun cha, a traditional soup of Hanoi. Sweet, sour, lots of fish sauce, tomato and a citrusy finish that brings out the porky goodness of the grilled ground pork patty. Truly a flavor explosion. Equally complex variation, the bun oc cha muc. Take a similar sweet and sour broth sans the tomato and load it up with snails and fried fish / squid patties. The flavor is intriguing and wildly complex. The springy proteins make for fun eating. It will keep you wanting spoonful after spoonful. Finally the bo la lot. Little packets of seasoned ground beef, shallots, garlic, lemongrass rolled in betel leaf that are then grilled. It is served with a fish sauce based dipping sauce along with fresh herbs, pickled carrots and radish, sprouts, cucumbers and vermicelli noodles. This dish hits every part of the flavor spectrum. So good! Simple decor with friendly service. Utterly amazing to find such good Vietnamese food in Canada considering the cuisine wasn't introduced until the 1970's. Outstanding.

Yelp
Went to Restaurant Ho Guom while in Montreal for a visit. We arrived around 8:45 p.m. with the posted closing at 9:30 p.m. We quickly placed our order & I got to try a traditional Vietnamese dish called bun oc cha muc which is snails and fried squid patty in a tomato based broth with vermicelli. I've never seen this on any menu in the GTA and let me tell you, I'm now on the hunt. The broth was delicious with a hint of sour, the snails and patties were plentiful. We also ordered spring rolls and Vietnamese beef salad & both were delicious. I loved the acidity of the salad & that there were tons of red onions. Even though they close at 9:30 p.m., I never felt rushed. In fact, the gentleman who mainly served us told me to take my time. Great food and great service! I would definitely go back as well as recommend this place to all.
