Unfortunately, my experience at Restaurant Hofmann did not live up to its high accolades or price point. I did enjoy the pickled foie gras, the quail, and the dessert. However, I found the yellowtail dish too sour to taste any of the fish, and the pork belly was too tough and dry and hard to finish.
The pork trotter was the most disappointing. I discovered four bones in the dish, which made it difficult to enjoy and felt unexpected at this level. When the server came to clear the table, he noticed the bones on the plate, pointed at them, and offered a quick, dismissive "sorry" before walking away. The issue was never acknowledged again.
At one point, I stepped away to use the restroom, and during that brief time, the next course was served, with the full presentation given only to the remaining diner at the table. This felt rushed and inconsiderate, especially at a restaurant where timing and attention are meant to be part of the experience.
There were a couple of other inconveniences that I would find excusable if the food and service was better, but coupled with the above experiences, they really set the tone for the evening. For one, the service felt a bit hurried, and it felt as though our server seemed to rush through his explanations, sometimes walking away from the table as he was finishing his sentence. Secondly, I was seated next to a shelving unit of sorts that rattled/thumped each time the kitchen door opened or closed, a small but persistent distraction.
I had expected the host to ask for feedback when the bill was presented, but that didn’t happen either, so I didn’t have the opportunity to raise these concerns in person.
At a Michelin-starred restaurant, I would have expected greater attention to detail, not just in the food, but in the service, pacing, and overall guest experience.
