"Restaurant Holmes, backed by chef Taylor Neary (formerly of Marcel and St. Cecilia), is closing at Alpharetta City Center after five years in the historic Jones house. It’s unclear if Restaurant Holmes is already closed or whether it will remain open for a few more weeks." - Beth McKibben

"Lunch service finally begins this Saturday, September 1 starting at 11 a.m. at Restaurant Holmes in Alpharetta. The restaurant, lead by chef Taylor Neary (Marcel, St. Cecilia), opened for dinner and drinks in the historic Jones House as part of the revamped Alpharetta City Center last month. The lunch menu seems to be an abbreviated and slightly reconfigured list of the dinner offerings at Restaurant Holmes. Dishes lean on the lighter side and include the frisée and pea salad consisting of lady peas and pink eye peas dressed in yuzu vinaigrette and the smoked pork belly with poblano peppers, pineapple, and avocado. But, there’s also a fried chicken sandwich, a lobster burrito, and a cheeseburger for anyone seeking a little more heft to their midday meal. Vanilla soft serve and olive oil cake with pineapple jam are listed among the restaurant’s lunchtime dessert options." - Beth McKibben

The barley risotto with mushrooms, roasted beets with asparagus, and cauliflower were all really great! I’ve read some of the other reviews about portion size, and I get it, it’s not a huge portion, but you definitely get your money’s worth on the flavor, quality and creativity coming out of the kitchen! Come here for the joy of eating great food and you won’t be disappointed.

First time at Holmes. We had a good experience, and there is room for improvement. Two plates out of five I had I will recommend. The scallops and seared tuna. Table service was fine, but it could definitely improve with attention to detail. Nice addition to the area with room to grow. I will give it another try, once the menu has been updated for the season. Worth trying it.

Beautiful big patio and EXCELLENT service!! Don was very attentive and friendly. The drinks are excellent & strong, but a little pricey ($15). We didn’t pay that much for drinks on the rooftop across the street where there’s a better view and in the sun. We were offered a special they had from a party the night before that was “more tender than filet Mignon” (wagyu) but it was very chewy and did not live up to our expectations of what wagyu is. The price is normally $50-60 so $32 was a great price but again it wasn’t impressive. We would come back and try something else in the future since the drinks, patio & service was nice but overall just ok.

Went here for a Christmas Dinner Party with the work group, about 20 of us. Even though there was only one waitress, I do t remember my glass being empty. I am a meat and potato guy, but someone ordered the Sprouts, which had a honey chipotle sauce on a bed of ranch. Certainly a tasty way to get your greens. Higher price, but the portion sizes made up for it.

Google
Plenty of options for everyone. The watermelon salad was my favorite. Small plates and portions. Great for sharing. The drinks are also good. Nice outdoor patio. Plenty of social distancing and an amazingly friendly staff.

Google
Great tasting tapas and drinks! We all had a good time. I do think the mixed drinks are a little overpriced and some of the tapas as well! Excellent quality foods and fantastic customer service all around!

Google
Although the service and atmosphere was outstanding yhe food wasn't as good. The corn dish was excellent and the carrot dish had a nice sauce but don't expect orange carrots. The hamburger was a bit dry. Even with all that the service is what got the 3 stars...maybe we just picked the wrong things.

Google
Ordered the cauliflower and asparagus which where both tasty but also heavy. We ordered veggies to eat lite and lean but instead it was cheesy and oily. The salads were on point and delicious. The ambience was cool and it was convenient to downtown. Lastly our service was quick and attentive but the really bad breath made that experience obviously awkward. The kind were you can smell it 5 ft away and gag. How do you tell your waiter to get a mint or brush their teeth?

Yelp
Lovely day lunch! My husband and I recently ate at Restaurant Holmes on Valentines Day and enjoyed our food, drinks and the vibe! Our waitress (also bartender) was so nice and made great recommendations! The drinks were on point and loved the naming! Wished I asked for a little more of the sauce for the tacos on the side. The Brussels and Wedge Salad is a must have!!!

Yelp
Great brunch spot and good experience for dinner as well. Cute interior and good service in downtown Alpharetta.

Yelp
I'd seen Restaurant Holmes all over social media so I had to schedule a dinner there as soon as possible! Located in downtown Alpharetta, Restaurant Holmes is The weather was gorgeous outside so we made a reservation to dine on the covered patio. Once seated, we noticed leash hooks (at least, I think they're hooks for leashes lol) so I will be sure to bring my pup next time! Our server was nice and helpful in introducing the menu to us. We started with some cocktails: there weren't any gin cocktails on the menu but the server recommended Jack the Ripper (a rum cocktail), which tasted summery and beachy... and ironically served in a super instaworthy Scofflaw brewing dirty beaches wheat beer can. The Whiskey Amargo was also a pretty drink without looking girly. Food: Pork Belly Tacos: surprisingly tasty. I wasn't sure what to expect and had low expectations but the meat was tender and fatty and hit the spot. Cacio e Pepe: just ok. I was hoping the classic pasta dish would blow me away but it seemed like it was missing something. Cheeseburger: a super pretty burger. I cut it in half to make it easier to share and the layers were very precise and instaworthy. Flavor wise, it was pretty basic. But it was served with the most addicting waffle fries that I would definitely like to see again and again and again. Overall, the meal was a tasty meal and the drinks were great. I'll have to come back again soon to try more of the dishes on the menu and signature cocktails!

Yelp
The salmon, brussel sprouts, and creme brulee were all good here. It's definitely some of the more memorable pieces of salmon that I've had at semi-uppity places. Good crispy skin, moist inside, and setting on the couscous and mushrooms was a fantastic addition.

Ray I.

Yelp
First time visit was good, sat at the small bar just as you walk in - and the 2 bartenders were super friendly and attentive. Small snag with the brussels sprouts 'tizer though. The sauce was an ok, but they were very underdone. Overall though seemed like a decent stop, and with the outdoor seating, we will give it one more try soon.

Yelp
Holmes is still a solid 4 for me. Went in recently for dinner and drinks and the drinks were tasty and the fresh catch of the day was mahi mahi. My sister had the hanger steak and enjoyed it. Very flavorful and nice presentation. Service was good.

Yelp
Restaurant Holmes is a cute little restaurant in downtown Alpharetta, right next to all of the action. For whatever reason we never really noticed it was there until we did! It was a beautiful day out when we visited so it seemed everyone else opted to eat on the covered porch. We made a reservation, but likely could have done without. Hubs and I ate inside and had the restaurant to ourselves. We were the only ones inside besides the staff having shift meal. We ordered the following: Wood Grilled Octopus ($15) Roasted Baby Carrots ($9) Cacio e Pepe ($12) P.E.I. Mussels ($16) Chu Papi ($12) Initially I ordered a spicy margarita, but it was terrible. I later found out they ran out of agave (and likely failed to put an alternative sweetener in my drink). Even after we tried to get it fixed, adding simple syrup didn't help. Our server ended up recommending Chu Papi which is a mezcal drink. The Chu Papi was okay, much better than the margarita without agave, but not something I would order again. The octopus we ordered was cold, which was disappointing. The service was a bit slow once the food came so we couldn't even say anything. The tacos were another disappointment. The cook on the pork was not good at all and the tortillas were completely soggy and fell apart. I highly recommend the Cacio e Pepe and the Roasted Baby Carrots. Both were absolutely divine! The pasta was fresh with the perfect amount of pepper. The carrots had so much going on - salty, sweet, spicy, & creamy. So so so delicious. The P.E.I. Mussels were also a good choice. Something we would likely order again. They were HUGE and so flavorful. All in all it was a mixed bag. Service was a bit slow considering how slow the restaurant was. The food was a toss up - some sad dishes and some blew us away. We will probably be back at some point - most likely when I am craving more Cacio e Pepe!

Yelp
We came here for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night and it was a good experience. We were able to get a reservation for 11 people earlier in the week and only had to wait about 10 minutes when we arrived. The small bar area is quaint and lively. I like that it is right when you walk in. Once seated at our nice long table, our server was with us promptly and was really good about answering all our questions about the menu and making suggestions. We started with the grilled sourdough bread and brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were amazing, drenched in a Korean BBQ sauce. I am definitely going to try to make these at home. The bread was perfectly grilled and had a nice flavor to it, and the whipped ricotta was delightful. I ended up getting the NY steak for my entree. The steak was a bit overcooked for medium-rare, but the jalapeno crema was great. The ambiance is fantastic but a bit overpriced in my opinion.

Yelp
Outstanding food fresh and delicious! Amazing vibe and fantastic staff from FOH managers, servers, host to kitchen. Each and everyone went over and above! Highly recommend Holmes Restaurant to host your next party or just a fabulous night out. Downtown Alpharetta's original gem

Yelp
Honestly, I don't get the low ratings. I've been here twice and sat at the bar both times. The bar is refreshingly quaint and charming. The bartenders are so friendly. I just love the Weight of Sound drink. I had a plate of crispy potatoes because I needed a snack. They lived up to the name. They arrived on a bed of aioli sauce, which goes so well with it. Enjoyed every bite of that. Restaurant Holmes is one of my favorite restaurants in the Alpharetta City Center space. Looking forward to trying their full menu sometime. HOW TO READ MY REVIEWS: 1 Star - Does not approach edible. Enter at your own risk. 2 Stars - If I'm in the area, I'd pick something else. 3 Stars - I would stop by if I happen to be in the area. 4 Stars - I would pick this place out of other places nearby. 5 Stars - I would go out of my way to dine here.

Yelp
Get on tapa the delicious dishes at Restaurant Holmes! Hubs and I came here for date night one night this summer. Restaurant Holmes is located in downtown Alpharetta. Free street and garage parking available. We didn't have a reservation. We arrived before 8pm and were seated quickly despite the place being very busy. The main space was packed, and since the weather was nice (when we arrived) we asked to be seated on their covered patio. It started to rain right before our meal started, but the patio kept us dry. The service was fast and friendly. The menu offers a nice variety of tapas and drinks. The cocktail names were cute and punny. We started with the "Post Melone" and "Spicy Lil Mama." The Post Melone is composed of salted pina, habanero, watermelon, and tequila. The Spicy Lil Mama is made of mango habanero, smoked tequila, and pineapple. Both were refreshing and deeeelicious! We tried the following items: Bronzino $32 Pork Belly $15 Street Corn $9 Octopus ~14 The portion of the bronzino was big for tapas. The rest of the items were the traditional tapas sizes. They're definitely on the pricey side, but that's typically how tapas goes. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the service was excellent, so I can't complain too much about the prices. The pork belly was my favorite. It melts in your mouth!

Yelp
1x visit.... hella late post but enjoyed the restaurant & the fast bite=*} Visited the 1st time when they just opened up... so, it was worth the wait!!

Yelp
Fantastic food. The menu is small but balanced. The cacio e Pepe is legendary. Great wine list. Servers are always attentive. The inside has a nice ambience, the outside is a little rustic. One of our favorites in Milton

Yelp
Restaurant Holmes is serving up unique small plates with local fresh ingredients, a seasonal menu, and craft beverages in the iconic "The Jones House" in Alpharetta. Per sign in 1914: " 'The Jones House', a craftsman style home was built for Will Jones and his wife May Jackson Jones at a cost of $515.00....In July, 2018, Restaurant Holmes opened in Jones House becoming the City Center's development's first tenant to open." I loved the sunny porch, the large floor to wall mural of the wolf, and the "keep the vibes" fluorescent neon sign which made the perfect photo op. There was also an orange statue of Buddha that you can rub for good luck and an out-of-this-world "To Mars" panel art. One thing that was really cool were the ice cubes that were engraved with "Holmes".This would be a great spot for a cozy date night or family get-together. What I tried at Restaurant Holmes. I had a cocktail called "Pretty in Pink" which had gin, bergamot, hibiscus, citrus, and bubbles. Then "Big Willy" poured up with bourbon, passionfruit, and citrus. Next, it was time for Staples (Appetizers) and I went with the brussels sprouts that had Korean barbecue sauce, creme fraiche, toasted seeds, and chives. The brussels sprouts were really yummy mixed with the Cacio e Pepe, handmade noodles, parmesan and cracked black pepper. Then was time for the Proper Entrees and I went for the Game Hen served with mushroom risotto and pan gravy. I also tried the Hanger Steak which was eight ounces and wood-grilled with a beer marinade paired with a carrot puree, broccolini, and crispy garlic. Restaurant Holmes: keeping the vibes! Which one of these dishes would you try?

Yelp
We went for lunch on a Wednesday. The menu isn't very big but there should be something for everyone. The Cream of Cauliflower was simply amazing and could be the best bowl of soup that I've ever had. I also had the steak tacos and they were good. Great, attentive service.

Yelp
I was running errands and happened to be in Alpharetta City Center. I drove around and found a parking spot. I wanted lunch so I walked around and happened upon Restaurant Holmes. It's on the South Main Street side. I saw from the street that they had their menu posted on the front porch, so I went to check it out. You can hear the restaurant music on the porch. I liked their music selection (reggae) so I went in. You enter the bar area first and can eat at the bar but I wanted to see the rest of the space so I was seated at a table. Although it's been restored, this house looks to be the only original structure in the 26-acre parcel that makes up Alpharetta City Center. There were at least a dozen things on the lunch menu at that I wanted to try but I settled in on the fried chicken sandwich. The description only said Korean BBQ, sweet pickle, herb aioli, and brioche. This is a wonderfully executed sandwich. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Korean BBQ has a tiny bit of heat but it's also a little sweet. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was not dry. I'm very happy that I stopped by for lunch and I recommend Restaurant Holmes for lunch or dinner!

Yelp
What a charming little restaurant! I came here with my girlfriend who has been here several times. She has literally tried everything on the menu, and thought I might like it, so I decided to check it out. It was pouring that night, and thankfully I had found a relatively close parking spot on the streets, but she said there's a parking deck as well somewhere. We sat at the bar, and it wasn't crowded I'm sure due to the inclement weather. Bartenders were friendly. We both ordered a Dirty Beach, a tropical rum mixed drink, just about the prettiest drink I've ever seen! (see the picture below) It was also very good, and I would have had another, but they were $15 a pop. They serve mainly tapas/small plates, which is right up my alley. We decided to split some mussels, octopus, and charred cauliflower. We started with the mussels, which were very ehhh in my opinion. I didn't love the broth. It was bland, and unmemorable, and why were some of toasts soaking in it. Soggy bread is gross! I didn't care for them at all. But the next two dishes were outstanding. The fire roasted octopus was sooooo good, one of the best in Atlanta for sure. I can't even tell you what it tasted like other than delicious. It was not overly chewy, and it was just fantastic. I could eat three platters of that alone. The cauliflower was also very very good. That vinairette sauce I want to bottle and take home! Plus the addition of the toasted pistachios really heightened the dish. Bravo guys! I will definitely come back here, and hopefully soon.

Jonathan M.

Yelp
My wife and I have been here over a dozen times without anything, but good things to say. However, tonight, the food and service were great, but the greeting from the bartender wearing a red Georgia tshirt was rude, unwelcoming, and condescending. We had a reservation for the outside, and when I asked the hostess if we could sit outside, he interjected with smartass remarks. We were set inside in what felt like an empty restaurant without any chairs other than our table. Unfortunate, but this experience will keep me from returning.

Maddie G.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere here and the concept of sharing small plates but man the price adds up quick. My table of 5 ordered the carrots, potatoes, street corn, mussels, trout, salmon and cacio de pepe. Of these, I loved the carrots, mussels and cacio de pepe the most! The menu has an excellent variety of cuisine types but our group was not overly impressed with our service or the cocktails. I had the paloma and it was decent. I'd totally come back again and try out their patio next time around!

Kat D.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Holmes for quite a while; well now I wish I hadn't. The menu looks good, with something for everyone. The location off the green in downtown Alpharetta adds to the appeal. The front door opens directly into the bar, the host stand is farther inside to the left. To start I ordered the Mexi-Cali salad, which was a good size, it could be split it as a side between 2 people. It tasted great! My husband ordered one of the specials- the braised rib. It was delicious! The meat was tender and flavorful. The carrots that came with it were charred to death - tasted like bitter coal. I ordered the New York strip steak, medium. It came out very rare-cold in the middle, not to my taste at all. I tried a piece and did not care for it, there was very little flavor other than of the overly charred and bitter outside. I told the waitress that it was too rare, and she asked if I wanted a new one or just have that one cooked more, or a different entree. I would feel really weird just throwing out a steak and getting a new entree. I asked for it to be cooked more. When she came back she said they made a whole new one, I guess the kitchen made that call. It was cooked exactly the same. Seriously? What a waste. The waitress said that it's hard to tell how it's cooked In the middle because they use a wood-fire grill. What? Well then, your kitchen staff should buy a thermometer. My husband had already finished his food by this time and I had eaten my sides. So we decided to just take it home. We could re-cook it ourselves tomorrow. So we boxed it up, paid, and left. We started to walk down the sidewalk and realized we had left the box on the table. My husband runs back in to see if it's still there, because we paid for it after all. Unfortunately they had already cleared the table. After all that frustration over the dumb steak we don't even have anything to show for it. I had only eaten a bite of it. The scraggly looking manager offered to make a new entree but I declined as I did not want to wait for a third entree to be cooked. I asked if I could just get a refund for the steak, to which he offered a $10 gift card. At this point I was so unimpressed by the restaurant that I knew I wasn't coming back; therefore I declined the gift card. I must have laughed slightly because he said "I don't understand what's funny about this situation." Whoa dude, chill out. Teach your kitchen to cook a steak and don't offer a pitiful $10 in its place. We just said nah man we're good, and left.

Joelle L.

Yelp
Restaurant Holmes has gone downhill. It's obviously under different management... The bar menu has changed, not nearly as comprehensive or fun a selection. When we went in recently - the hostess had french fries out on her stand with a glob of ketchup that has been spilled... There was also candy all over her stand, it was a mess. The menu was highly average, will no longer be a go to spot for us!

Scott P.

Yelp
Certainly underrated for what it is. I love the fact that they renovated an old house practically on the square, the vibe is great, it's a small bar / restaraunt but this keeps it pretty consistant. The wrap around patio is fantastic - one of the best in Alpharetta. The food is small plates, locally sourced ingredients, and they have a fantastic bar - very well done drinks. The bartenders are very attentive and the owner is interactive with the guests. The pork belly tacos is one of my fave things to go for here, along with the brussel sprouts.

Geremy P.

Yelp
Really liked this place. The outdoor seating was perfect for a nice fall day. They bring you a plate of bread that is grilled and various veggies and it is a great starter. I ordered the burger and it was really tasty. Juicy burger, great buns, the freshest toppings, and the sauce tied it all together. Their cross cut fries were so darn good too. My gf got the tuna poke bowl and it was good but was just missing a little something to make it better. The soba noodles were good, the tuna, edamame, and cucumbers were fresh and delicious, and the sauce was a nice touch. But the issue was just not enough flavor, like you get a a quick flavor sensation but it is instantaneous and disappears and leaves a flavorless gap after. That is really only complaint. This is definitely a place to come with friends and loved ones, the people here are so amazing.

Kim B.

Yelp
We had a noon reservation for 8. There was only one table of people when we arrived. Got drinks and 25 min later ordered. Many tables of people came and were served. After an hour I asked how much longer. Soon. Tables pd and left. About 20 min later, food started coming, one person's fries, the child plate, 10-15 min later, an entree, then later 2 entrees, etc until all but one had been served. The Poke bowl finally came for last person as we were finishing. It had hot rice instead of noodles and shrimp. Not same as menu. Server said he would take it off bill for taking so long which he didn't do. We were not offered more cocktails or beverages which we would have ordered. First and last time here. Long and miserable lunch.

Sam T.

Yelp
Incredible food! The chef is clearly a creative genius because flavor lives here and flavor is very happy here ;) We tried the watermelon fennel jam salad, it was so good - we wish there were a few more mint leaves but only because every bite was absolutely delicious together! The Brussels are unbeatable meaning you will not eat Brussels anywhere that taste this good! We will definitely be back and strongly recommend Holmes to anyone interested in unique but flawlessly executed flavors!

Steve W.

Yelp
Holmes is a home run!!! Small plates make up the menu Must have: Bread Plate - omg comes with a burrata spread Beets plate - melt in your mouth Small potatoes - to die for Grilled octopus - perfect. Tastes like the shores of Italy but better. Make sure to meet Taylor. Executive chef and creator of this marvelous establishment!!!

Yelp
Love this place! Went last night for the first time. Vibe: We dined on the patio, which is large, completely covered and very cool with fans and a cross breeze. Although they don't take reservations on the patio, we arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday night and there were plenty of available tables. By the time we left it was full. Wonderful outdoor furniture that was comfortable and everything appeared clean. Nice music for ambiance. We did step inside the restaurant, and prefer the vibe on the patio over the inside. Service: SO friendly. From the guy who greeted us as we arrived to our wonderful server (Kate) to the cheerful guy who brought our food. All of them were upbeat and friendly. I also appreciate the helpfulness of the servers AND the way everything was unhurried. It was clear that they were not just trying to turn tables, which is such a peeve. Instead, Kate let us set our own dining pace and was there when we needed her, but never tried to rush us. Food: We love to order brussel sprouts as an appetizer when we can, not even knowing that they are extremely popular here (we saw them on lots of tables). They are the best we have ever had anywhere! I highly recommend! My husband got the chicken sandwich with waffle fries because we talked to a guy at the table near us who said it was great. My husband does not prefer buffalo sauce, so asked for a sub of Korean BBQ sauce, and he loved his meal. Portion size was great. I got the Octopus, which was good, but definitely one of their "small plates" re: portion size. Drinks: My husband got an old fashioned and I got a Manhattan--both were excellent. We noticed lots of summery/tropical cocktails on other tables since it is summer time. They have a nice wine menu also. Pricing: One of the other reviews I read noted that pricing adds up since it is a Tapas kind of place. I agree, however, we did not order lots of different plates. Overall: We will definitely be back! We like the feel and energetic vibe of Main Street in Alpharetta, and all of the above added up to a pleasant evening out.

Yelp
You can always find a solid decent meal here. Service, food, and ambience has always been good to me. The Cacio E Pepe was delicious.

Yelp
I met another first timer at Holmes today for lunch. We were seated outside which was great given the weather. Payton was our server; who did a nice job with our needs. During our lunch Payton stopped by several times to see if all was OK. Both entrees were excellent and would order on a future visit. I'll be back.

Paula K.

Yelp
Nope! Holmes is officially banned by our lunch group. We were first timers excited to give this place a try. It was a beautiful day and we wanted to sit outside. The building is very nice, with a funky decor. We sat on their large open porch. We had a nice view of a very large tree, flowers, some other buildings, and the Salt restaurant. We were good with that. :) After reading the menu, we were all very bummed that the menu is very pricy, especially with all of the choices only being small portions or ala cart. Our server took our order, walked away and within 5 minutes 1 of our 3 lunches was brought to us. Delivery person said here are your steak tacos! We said wait, are you sure this is ours, that was fast and where is the other food? He gave us the tacos and walked away. Server wasn't around so my friend decided to eat the tacos (as it was very breezy outside they were starting to get cold). Server comes back and we explain what happened. She said they were not our tacos. We told her we tried to explain that to the delivery person. Server did offer to get us another order, we said no and my friend finished them well before our food came. Refills were a problem. They give you a nice fancy glass for soda but are never around for refills. Big reason for the ban. The two lunches arrived (patty melt and burger). They tasted good, nothing exceptional. Same with the tacos, they were ok, nothing fabulous. To sum up our visit, I feel we paid for the "experience" of sitting outside in downtown Alpharetta. None of our food choices, and certainly not the service are anything special that we need to come back for. I think this is another Alpharetta "fru fru" place that's a dud! We work in this area (and go out as a group for lunch everyday) and still continue to enjoy more "mom and pop" or non-chain, non fru fru places so much more. Heads up - we were lucky to get a parking space - another reason why we avoid this area. On the way out we did see what seemed to be a public parking deck.

Yelp
Holy cow. I've said the phrase "this is the best cocktail I've ever had" pretty frequently lately, since I've been on a roll going to cocktail bars. I am certain that I won't say that again for a VERY long time now that I've been to Holmes. I ordered the Final Coconut--twice. It was so flavorful, strong, high quality, and beautifully presented. I'm a big gin fan so this hit. The. Spot. I also tasted the Juicy J and the Young Theo. Five stars for those as well! I loved the ambiance of Holmes as well. It was boujee but welcoming. I felt like I should be dressed up, which I was, but I liked that. Very clean and stylish. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. Food-wise, I was impressed. We ordered the Tuna Crudo, Sticky Brussels, Tortellini, and Baby Potatoes. All were fantastic. My favorite was the Tortellini.

Julianne C.

Yelp
In a word: Yes Please! We've been for dinner twice now and each time was awesome. Their shared plates style of serving is left of center, but provides a different dining experience that provokes you to lean into it (read: share it). If you're a foodie, you probably love enjoying a meal with a friend and chatting about each dish and Restaurant Holmes gives you that opportunity. Their style is refined comfort, inviting and jovial. You won't feel awkward using your hands yet there's still a classiness to the place. Cocktail menu is awesome, vibe is on point and the sticky toffee cake is still making my mouth water. Can't wait to go back. Bonus: The art work is super cool and features Atlanta street artist/muralist Greg Mike.

Yelp
Like the food- service is marginal. This shouldn't stop you from trying the restaurant. I highly recommend the hamachi- don't order the street corn unless you live corn and don't mind getting very messy ( no easy way to eat the heavily seasoned niblets). Inside is loud and outside is pleasant. Everything considered, try it once and see if it is your kind of place.

Yelp
I love this spot! I love when Britney and Austin bartend together. They're my favorite duo. The executive chef, Greg, came out to describe his food and it was such a personal touch! I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I am always in the mood for small plates and Holmes did not disappoint. our group ordered around 6 dishes for 3 of us and all were interesting and delicious. the broccoli with korean bbq sauce was amazing, as was the ravioli with gruyere. the kids steak was probably one of the best steaks I've had! the octopus has a weird flavor but everything else was greatly enjoyed. the spaghetti cacio de pepe was our favorite. great cocktail and wine selection with comfy outside seats.

Yelp
I went with a party of 7 on a Monday evening to celebrate a birthday and the restaurant was pretty empty. With that in consideration, our service and the food quality was not very good. Our drinks were incorrect on 5 different occasions and it took awhile to receive them. The drinks were very good, but majority of the food was not. We ordered 2 cheese pastas which one never arrived, 2 grilled octopus, potatoes, Brussel sprouts, NY strip, poke bowl, BBQ short ribs, and chicken sandwich. The octopus and bbq short ribs were cooked on grill and way too charred and bitter. All you could taste was char. The coleslaw that came with the short ribs was absolutely coated in salt. Do not get the NY strip. It was cooked to the correct temperature as requested (med rare) but was so chewy and hard to eat. The only dishes that were food was the fried potatoes (how can you go wrong), and the chicken sandwich. Pretty sad. Given that they had plenty of opportunity to provide a good dining experience because of the lessened restaurant capacity on a Monday night, and the fact that we're supporting them during a pandemic, I did not feel like they made much effort or appreciate the patronage. Such a shame since I've been wanting to try out this restaurant for awhile, but I will unlikely be going back.

Yelp
Came to Holmes on a Saturday night for dinner with a group. We split several apps (Carrots, potatoes, mussels, Mexican corn) and for entrees I had the Caio De Pepe, friends had trout & salmon. Service was okay- I feel like our server didn't come back often to check on us or clear the table. They split my friends sAlmon which was nice. The portions are a little weird on the shareables, like my pasta wasn't super large to share but the corn was. All of the food was flavorful and good. The cocktails weren't anything to ride home about in my opinion but my friend liked his old fashion a lot. Overall, I don't think the prices and the portion sizes are accurately represented for a tapas place compared to the others I have been to but I would come back and try again!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but I am just not a fan. Tapas are incredibly expensive and a lot of the ingredients are mysteries by looking at the menu and I don't want to ask what every single thing is. Ordered the cheese plate ($15), which featured 3 cheeses, pickles, bread, nuts. It was ok...the cheese wasn't overly impressive. The drinks are also very pricey but good. $15 for a margarita in a re- purposed beer can. Clever. The outdoor seating is cozy, but the small fans are not adequate enough to cool any of the area. The table next to us ordered the scallops (2 on a plate) and they smelled rancid. Kept getting whiffs of them and it was nauseating. Server was nice! But sorry Holmes, I just do not think this is a place for me.

Yelp
We had a reservation on a Sunday night for a party of 6. My husband and I got there early and had drinks at the bar. The bartenders name was Riley. She was very friendly and the cocktails were delicious. The bar is very small. So if you're looking for a big bar party type atmosphere this isn't for you. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Alpharetta. So a great location. You can parallel park or park in the parking deck. We ordered the brussel sprouts and potato fingers for appetizers. The brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had. Highly recommend those. For the entrees we ordered the grouper, the salmon, hanger steak, a salad adding chicken, and shrimp and grits. All were very tasty. The only exception was the grilled chicken salad. The chicken was rubbery and tasted not cooked all the way. My friend didn't want to send it back. So she ate everything but the chicken. That is the reason for the 4 star. We enjoyed our dinner and we will be back.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and had a great meal. Right on Main Street in an old historical house. Nice atmosphere. To be honest, i didn't want to go to a tapas bar, but i found out that they have updated their menu. lots of new stuff and better prices. I got the burger ( it was GREAT ) and grilled octopus (excellent) appetizer. Everyone enjoyed their meal. i will be back

Yelp
THIS. IS. YOUR. NEW. FAVORITE. I've never stepped foot into a tapas restaurant and after experiencing the amazing dishes Chef Tay & Chef Mason have cultivated, I don't think I have the desire to try anywhere else. EVERY dish is well thought out, tasted and tweaked and tasted again before ever hitting the customers table. The passion for what is being done underneath this roof is unmatched! Before you get to indulge in the incredibly unique decor of the dining rooms and bathrooms (yes, the bathroom is cooler than any place you've ever tinkled) you are welcomed by a beautifully stocked bar & the most knowledgeable cocktail curators on the North. Adrienne and Sam are BOMB! Do yourself a favor and taste one of their signatures, and don't be afraid to ask questions...I guarantee you'll walk away with something new & fun. Overall this entire restaurant brings a new vibe to downtown Alpharetta that everyone should be excited about. From their insanely fresh ingredients, to their amazingly attentive staff...Holmes is doing it right!! Treat yourself and stop by..

Yelp
Honestly, for a moment I expected Gordon Ramsay to walk out and rescue us and that we would be part of a show. If I didn't know better, it seemed as if they really did not want us there at all or to ever come back again. With the disastrous food and negative interpersonal interactions this would have been a be a perfect candidate for one of their "Kitchen Nightmares" or "Hell's Kitchen" episodes. We should have trusted our instincts and walked away. The venue was nice but then it started to go south from there. We had a large party, and they had space for us on a Sat. night. We found out why.  The hostess, then manager insisted our party to pay as a group instead of individually in an attempt to justify 20% gratuity or they would not serve us. (Everyone would usually tip 25% as many of them have friends and family in the service industry.).  Even the children realized what they were doing, and knew full well it should be the establishment's job to make life easy for the customer and not the other way around. But we were good sports about it and the math was not too complex. They would be getting exactly 20%. According to the party as a whole, food quality and service were very poor and would have been much better served at Outback, Olive Garden or any chain restaurant at reasonable prices. The quality of the steak (Do NOT order), octopus (burned and bitter)  and brownies (aged?) were shameful. Salmon was ok. The Poke was too salty and almost inedible. Food was spilled on 2 of the girls in our group, but they were given dry T-Shirts to change into by the server. Our servers were new and doing their best -- and we were understanding about it, but one was visible vaping in one of the doorways near the bar by all the health conscious children later during the service. When it came time to settle the bill, the manager insisted on lecturing us on the mathematics of how we should pay as they refused individual checks trying to capture a 20% gratuity. She admitted this was to make HER life easier and the amount owed seemed to keep changing within a $100 range. We politely kept questioning her mathematics until the correct number for the bill were achieved. We thought it unseemly for a manager to make comments like, "...Paying servers our of my own pocket..." to justify ad hoc policies of payment for our group dictating how everyone should pay. Honestly, all this would have been solved by simply allowing SEPARATE CHECKS and letting the server calculate basic arithmetic for each customer. I ordered the Cheeseburger thinking "What could go wrong?" but my GI was feeling off this morning. So I will be sure to tell all my friends! Honestly, I wish Restaurant Holmes the best, but they need to step up in a big way. Students have a network of peers, that reach far more people than any one adult posting a review. Holmes has certainly left an impression that will last a lifetime with a group of respected and very community oriented students. I have no doubt that they will relay their 'memorable' experiences to all their peers!

Yelp
Seriously, this has become our favorite place to eat!! And we've been to many around town.. Close your eyes and point at any item in the menu. You will not be disappointed!! Everyone working is so friendly and accommodating.. we were the table with so many orders and so many specific preferences and food restrictions. They were awesome!! The food was so good and the wine was on point!!

Yelp
Great atmosphere Wonderful service Stellar cocktails And expertly prepared small plates with all the right flavors, nothing competing, all ingredients highlighted beautifully, just how I like. Some of my faves: Watermelon app Scallop crudo Bone marrow toast Roasted carrots Barley risotto with trumpet mushroom Well done all around!

Yelp
I cannot recommend this restaurant. The ambiance inside is ruined by the lack of A/C. It is uncomfortably warm inside. When I asked the waiter about the temperature inside he said it was always a problem because of outdoor seating and the doors being opened all the time. I guess that also explains why I had to constantly shoo the flies swarming around our table. I would highly recommend the owners put in some ceiling fans to help with the circulation, the air was just stale. The food is actually very tasty, but the service is slow. I would only consider going back on a cold wintry night until they fix the issues with circulation of air inside.

Yelp
Great service. Food was served very quickly. Everything we had was delicious. But the cost to amount was a bit off I thought. After $60 (including 1 drink) we were still hungry. Going to the ramen bar next door so we can fill us up. (I think we eat less than average people and definitely aren't overweight...). I would come back if the food amount was more generous.

Yelp
I honestly was disappointed with this place. The price vs. What you get for the food for me is out of ratio. We had the ribs, street corn, octopus and the fish (honestly I don't remember what kind). The street corn calls for Mexican cream, I'm sorry but mayo is not Mexican cream, the ribs were undercooked and too fatty, the Octopus was good and by the time the fish I wasn't with much intention to even taste it. Service was OK. The patio is really nice to sit and have a drink while having a nice conversation. We went on a Thursday and they have live music (plus for them) I guess I'll give them another try in the future but not impressed the first time.
