Husar

"The attractive, painted façade of this historic, established restaurant will draw you into the equally inviting interior with its comfortable yet elegant dining rooms. The service is excellent, while the good food – seasonal and international – includes dishes such as grilled zander fillet with Dijon mustard sauce." - Michelin Inspector

Our dinner experience at Husar was frankly an accident and we couldn't say more wonderful things about our unintended meal. At 8pm we had our sights on going to the restaurant next door (which is more of a "pub"), but in our excitement we walked into Husar. Quickly realizing we were underdressed for the white table cloths and wine glasses, we didn't have a chance to change our minds before we were warmly greeted by the staff to come in. Although we aren't strangers to fine dining, I couldn't help but want to excuse ourselves. My feelings of being "out of place" were almost immediately erased by the top notch hospitality. One fantastic suggestion after another, we enjoyed our way through not only the food and drink menu, but the education on the rich and interesting history of the building. We can't say enough about the chef, the quality, flavor and presentation of the food, the warm and welcoming staff, and cozy ambiance. 5 stars Husar!

An absolute must if you are in the Garmisch area. Situated in a 17th century house that maintains its intimacy and charm. The food is outstanding and the service right up there. Highly recommend the venison. Will definitely be back next visit.

Very good food, lovely atmosphere, just fantastic owners couple (she is one of the top chefs in the country, he's a brilliant host), prices are on the highest side but well worth it.

Great food, but nothing that equates to the prices. Been there three times so far and the menu sounds interesting and then you receive just plain old Bavarian dishes. Ambience is nice also. This place is for wealthy people that don't know what exquisite food is. Koch's is soooooo much better!

It takes a while to understand that the beautiful building stands for the restaurant alone as opposed to the hotel combos surrounding the area. The English menu was available only when we sat inside. Unfortunately, there was nothing there that we had not had elsewhere or that was typically local. Also, we were kindly informed that some parts of the menu were already out of stock (around 21:30). We decided to continue the evening elsewhere.

Amazing food and friendly service. My wife and I were greeted at the door by the owner who took our coats for us and directed us to our seats. When we say down he offered us some wonderful sparkling wine that was a great start to out meal. The menu had seasonal items as well as some Bavarian Staples. I ended up going with Filet Mignon with roast potatoes and an artichoke salad. The salad was recommended by the owner, it was the most unique delicious salad I've ever had. Four pieces of thin sliced meat (salami I think) were topped by various vegetables, crumbled hard boiled egg, and halved cherry tomatoes. A light sauce tasted vinegar based and slightly sweet, I've never had anything like it but I loved it. The filet itself was cooked to medium and was the best steak I've had in Europe. The meat itself was flavorful, cooked perfectly even, with no unnecessary extras, which is the perfect way to eat it. However it did come with a peppercorn gravy type sauce on the side that was not overly flavorful, but was ok, I used that only probably the last third of the filet. The meat by itself was a wonderful and didn't need any extra sauces. The side of roast potatoes was also wonderful, I was already full by then and only had a few bites, but I'm glad I made the room to try them. I had ordered wine with dinner, the owner recommended a German Merlot that paired great with the Filet. My wife had a fish plate with rice pilaf. She said she enjoyed it. I enjoyed Restaurant Husar, the atmosphere, the service, and the food. The only downside is that it was a bit expensive, but for the quality it is worth it as a special occasion. My wife and I went there for our first anniversary, and we will hopefully get the chance to go back for other special occasions!

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Garmisch. Traditional Bavarian food served in a homey atmosphere. Very reasonably priced and friendly German service.

Yelp
So I had fond memories of eating here but it did not live up to my memories. Our meals were very good but the creme brûlée was not so good. While the custard has the perfect consistency it lacked any flavor other than egg and creme. So overall, nice place to eat but be prepared if you like a more relaxed atmosphere do not eat here. Be polite and know basic German etiquette, I fail sometimes even though I know proper etiquette I do not know some of the German proper etiquette. Plus it did not help that my friend got sick during our visit to the restaurant. Not because of the restaurant but the whole night was awkward.
